ITunes 12: Changing my genres, fixes don't stick

Just downgraded to iTunes 12 since Apple's answer to the MS Paper Clip, the little dialog window that won't die, finally got the best of me.
What a mistake. Please don't do it, peeps.
My main annoyance is that the genres of my music keep changing. I fix them, they change. Sometimes in a minute, sometimes in a day.
I have just switched OFF "Keep iTunes Media Library" organized. Why? Somebody mentioned it. It's not helping.
I can't tell if it's only iTunes music purchases that it's affecting. Possibly. Any ideas? Thanks, y'all!

Downgraded to iTunes 12?  There isn't an iTunes 13.
Something in purchased media (I am pretty sure this has only happened with purchased media) is periodically checking back with the iTunes Store and resetting the tags in the iTunes library file but not in the actual media files (metadata are stored in both).  I haven't seen a truly systematic diagnosis of the issue (I use an old iTunes and have no iTunes account so I can't test anything myself).  There are temporary workarounds but tags will still revert after a time.

  • Why does Itunes automatically change the genre of my songs?

    Why does Itunes automatically change the genre of my songs? I have assigned specifit genres but they're constantly changed without me doing it. ITs annoying. Does anyone know how i can stop this?

    welcome to the discussions
    you may find that WMP is doing this for you.
    There is a setting is WMP that means that it checks the info held in the file (and shown by itunes) against that held at Gracenote and 'updates' the info where there is any disagreement. On my copy its under the 'media library' tab.
    Turn this off if its on.

  • Why is iTunes automatically changing my genre metadata?

    MacBook Pro 15-inch, Mid 2012
    Processor: 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
    Software: OS X 10.9.3 (13D65)
    iTunes 11-2-2 (3)
    64-bit
    Why is iTunes automatically changing my genre metadata?
    For the past couple months I’ve noticed that iTunes has been changing genre information in my music library.  This is a problem because I’ve spent the past decade tweaking the metadata in my iTunes Library to be exactly the way that I want it (particularly with genre and grouping information).
    I have a very large iTunes library and I’ve changed genre and grouping info for organizational reasons.  When iTunes changes the genre of my music, it’s effecting my smart playlists and causing a domino effect of mis-organization.  Tracks and albums are popping up in multiple genres, and things are getting disorganized very quickly.
    I suspect that iTunes is changing the genre info of my purchased music back to how it appears in the iTunes store and that this is going to be a new ongoing Apple issue that is quietly ignored.  If that’s the case, then I would like some feedback from other users who may have some helpful advise to disconnect iTunes from the mother ship of the iTunes Store.  If this is the way it’s going to be, then I’ll simply stop buying music from iTunes and try to use iTunes as a stand alone music player (if possible).  If that is NOT possible, then I’ll be looking into moving my entire music library to different software and completely removing myself from iTunes.  After a decade of loving iTunes, that would obviously be a shame, but losing control of my library is a deal breaker.
    Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
    Other notes/observations:
    -I am NOT using iTunes Match
    -Genius is turned OFF
    -Tracks being automatically edited is music that has been purchased from the iTunes Store
    -Not all tracks purchased from the iTunes Store is being automatically edited
    -If I Command-Info a track that has been edited by iTunes, the metadata changes back to what I had changed it to.  But ONLY when I Command-Info or play the track.  Otherwise the track stays lost in it’s reversed genre and the track disappears from smart playlists that it’s included in.

    Yep, others are seeing the same thing and I have not seen a solution posted yet.
    Send feedback to Apple and wait very patiently and keep fingers crossed they do something about it, eventually, someday.

  • ITunes 11 - Changing Media Kind to Podcast not sticking?

    I've got several podcasts I downloaded manually and then added to iTunes. They automatically showed up in the Music category, so I tried to change the Media Kind field to Podcast to switch them over. It lets me select Podcast, but won't stick. Changing to a different tab in the Get Info window resets my selection, and selecting podcast and immediately hitting OK fails to register the change as well.
    Anyone else encounter this and found a way around it?

    This for Mac only (sorry).
    'Subler' offers a nice 'clean' way of adding the requisite tags to m4a files, also for iTunes U.
    It's free at http://code.google.com/p/subler/
    This works only for m4a files. I have not found a solution for mp3s.
    Do not add your track to iTunes yet, instead, open it in Subler.
    In Subler, make sure that the track has at least the Name, Artist and Album tags set (under 'Metadata', create them as necessary using the small '+'-menu down left).
    - For a Podcast, under 'Other Settings' check 'Options: Podcast' and save.
    - For iTunes U, under 'Other Settings' choose 'Media Kind' > 'iTunes U' and save.
    Now add your file to iTunes.
    And Apple: please fix!

  • I'm having problems with iTunes that keeps changing the genre of music that I have already changed

    I'm a Dj and I make extensive use of inteligent playlists mostly defined by genre and classification.
    I currently have about 70 different playlists, and almost everyone are very important, because I know what music to play, but in some cases I don't remember the name. So it's very usefull for me to know where I can find it according to the genre that I defined.
    BUT!! WHAT HAPPENS IS THAT iTunes keeps changing the genre of some music to the previous that is available on the itunes store (that I don't use because is too vague)
    Do you know what might be happening?

    Hello Torre,
    DAQmx is in fact more efficient than Traditional DAQ, so this behavior you describe shouldn't be the rule. I haven't been able to debug/check thoroughly your code, so here's what I suggest:
    a) Try the W2000 option to give more time to background processes (see this link).
    http://zone.ni.com/devzone/conceptd.nsf/webmain/28A6979ECA9A0CAF862569050053D92D?opendocument
    b) Try with the LabVIEW supplied DAQ examples which do a similar task and test/compare their performance
    c) Check with the LabVIEW tools where the time is spent (Profile VIs tool)
    Hope this will help !

  • ITunes 11 - how can I change the genre of a movie now?

    So I've had iTunes 11 for about 3 hours now and so far it *****.  One of my main problems is I can't find how I can change the genre of a movie anymore.  I used to do this from Get Info so I could organise all my movies in to my own genres that make sense to me which helps me find what I want to watch when using Apple TV.
    It will still let me do that for movies I bought before I "upgraded" to 11 but for the movies I bought this evening, after upgrading, the genre drop down is locked down.
    Am I just looking in the wrong place?  Or have Apple somehow got the idea that pointlessly preventing your customers from organising their content in their own way is somehow an improvement and I'm stuck with their nonsensical genre classifications?
    Same thing goes for movie titles now I think of it - I've edited movie titles after purchase (e.g. I've put HP1 in front of the title of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and HP2 in front of Chamber of Secrets) so that series list in watching order, rather than alphabetical order, on my Apple TV.  It's not letting me do that from Get Info either
    Please someone tell me I'm just doing it wrong - I don't think I've the patience to jump through the hoops necessary to get 10.7 back!

    I had the same bug in songs. It was directly related to tracks purchased in the iTunes store, they wouldn't allow any changes, it was all grayed out.
    Here's how I got around it. When I selected more than one item and any other item was not from the iTunes store it would allow me to Get Info and change everything with no problems.
    My suggestion is that if you need to, add in a movie from your hard drive (anything at all, it will be a dummy placeholder) that you can you use to select along with the one you need to change. Use command click to select non-contiguous files (even works in different genres), then get info (or command i) and then change your info. You can keep using the same dummy file for as long as you need to to fix the files with incorrect info, then delete it when done.

  • ITunes Match "stuck" @ 6:12 PM -- any metadata changes after 6:12 PM don't stick. Help!

    I found a weird bug that I've never experienced before and don't know what triggered it:
    I've been importing albums into my library all day and I have noticed that any changes that I made to metadata in my library on and after 6:12 PM are not sticking when I update iTunes Match, even if I Update iTunes Match now (8:39 PM). For example, before 6:12 PM tonight I imported a couple albums from the same artist that initially had a different genres for each one. Around 6:12 PM my iTunes Match must have been updating to the servers before I had the chance to change the genre's to what I wanted. On or after 6:12 PM I highlighted all the albums from this artist and changed the genre to the same thing.
    Once my library looked acceptable to me, I must have either manually Updated iTunes Match or importing even more music triggered it, but either way I noticed that a few minutes later all the changes that I made after 6:12 PM were reverting back.
    Nothing I have done so far has fixed this. Even songs that I have deleted from my library since 6:12 PM tonight, still return to my library as iCloud songs to be downloaded. But I deleted them 5-6 times since then!! I've made these changes back and forth to my library, the same changes, at least 5-6 times.
    Song title changes, album title changes, etc etc will not stick since 6:12 PM. Even if I disable iTunes Match, and restart iTunes and iTunes Match and add the computer again -- nothing. Same thing. Even if I disable iTunes Match, and restart my computer, then restart iTunes and iTunes Match .. no difference.
    What is going on here?! Why won't iTunes Match update itself and why is it stuck on 6:12 PM?
    Please help!
    THANK YOU!

    Hi again Jim!
    I used SHIFT since it's what you've used without problems, and it seems to have worked. When I re-activated iTunes Match, and added my computer again, it didn't seem to revert any metadata changes.
    I've also slowly imported a few new albums, which always prompt iTunes Match to re-update, and after each time it hasn't reverted the previous changes. It is only about 10 minutes worth of metadata for a few albums that were always reverting, but for now this seems to be working. I would assume that if a full day goes by without any issues then this definitely solved my problem.
    I am curious, can you tell me exactly what the addition of holding down the SHIFT or OPTION key does when turning off iTunes Match?
    Thanks!

  • Itunes 9.2 keeps changing my genre to Pranks

    ANy new music I add to iTunes appears with its original genre. If I try to change the genre to something that starts with a number then it changes to pranks or ska after i hit enter
    It only happens if I change the genre to something starting with a number.
    If I change it to Tech House its fine. If I change it to 23 Tech House then it changes to pranks!!
    I have my DJ genres starting with a number so they stay together in the genre list
    ANy ideas ?

    I can confirm this happens on iTunes 9.2
    I try to browse by genre with a column browser on Top, go to a genre like '80's Groove' double click a track, it dissapears (starts playing though). Turns out its genre is no longer the same, but it is changed to Folk!!!
    Looks like a Bug...!
    You can even click CMD+I on a track - before playing it - and see its genre is changed already, as soon as it is accessed
    Screenshot: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2194922/Screen%20shot%202010-06-21%20at%209.00.18%20%CF% 80.%CE%BC..png
    I can confirm this works, as far as I can see, only with Genres beginning with numericals. Other weird genres I have in my Library didn't get affected.
    Furthermore debugging…. and now it gets interesting…
    Setting a Genre with a number automatically changes the Genre like this:
    "10s" or 10 or "10 silly questions"-> New Age
    20... -> Alternative
    30 -> Fusion
    40 -> AlternRock
    50 -> Darkwave
    60 -> Top 40
    70 -> Trailer
    80 ->Folk
    90 ->Avantgarde
    100 ->Humor
    00 -> Blues
    5 -> Funk
    etc…
    Well… is this a bug? Is it intentional? I don't see why I can't name a Genre however I like….

  • I downloaded 2 cds onto my ipod nano through itunes.  Recently my itunes account changed and now it doesn't recognize the songs from the cds.  How to transfer from ipod back to itunes?  I don't have the cds anymore.

    I downloaded 2 cds onto my ipod nano through itunes.  Recently my itunes account changed for some unknown reason and now it doesn't recognize the songs from the cds.  The songs are still on my ipod.  I am affraid to sync now because the songs may be deleated, and I don't have the cds anymore.  How can I transfer the songs from the cds on my ipod back to itunes so that I don't lose them?

    What you have on your computer is your iTunes library, not your "account."  The "account" you have for iTunes is your Apple ID, which you use when purchasing or downloading from the iTunes Store.  If these songs came from music CDs that you imported into iTunes, those songs are not related to your Apple ID.
    Recently my itunes account changed for some unknown reason and now it doesn't recognize the songs from the cds
    How are they not "recognized"?  Are the songs still listed in your iTunes music library, but grayed out?  They no longer appear in your iTunes library at all?
    If you search your computer (not in iTunes) for the song files, using one of the song names, can you find the song files?

  • I customize my genres, etc. but iTunes keeps changing it back. How do I stop this?

    I customize my genres, etc. but iTunes keeps changing it back. How do I stop this?

    Hi dfrost10,
    I wouldn't be surprised if you were hit with some [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Is%20my%20Firefox%20problem%20a%20result%20of%20malware?s=malware&r=0&e=sph&as=s#w_how-do-i-get-rid-of-malware Malware]. I'd probably investigate that first.
    If that isn't the case, you should take a look at the Knowledge Base article [[How to set the home page]]. Your homepage might have been changed by a particular site. Sites like MSN, Yahoo, etc have been know to ask to become your homepage.
    There are steps in that article to reset your homepage preferences to default. I would try that first to clear out any strangeness. If that works, you can try setting your homepage again to your personal preference.
    If that doesn't work you should look at the article [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Preferences_not_saved Preferences not saved].
    Hopefully this helps!

  • I purchased a refurbished iBook G4-Version 10.4.11 and everytime that I try to purchase anything on iTunes or change something in my account, I click "done" and it says that I have timed out. What could be causing this?

    I purchased a refurbished iBook G4-Version 10.4.11 and everytime that I try to purchase anything on iTunes or change something in my account, I click "done" and it says that I have timed out, when I'm on there for less than a minute. Hence, none of my purchases have gone through.What could be causing this?

    You need to use a newer Mac OS X version. A G4 can be upgraded to 10.5.8(if desired, buy a retail DVD from a source such as Amazon or eBay), but you'll likely find it more cost-effective to buy a secondhand Intel Mac.

    So iTunes randomly changed a bunch of albums to be The Frozen Borderline by Nico with the album art (the artist names and song names are still the same though). • ITunes won't allow me to change the genre

    I have a cd on iTunes and it says that it is Pop, with the exception of one song that I downloaded from iTunes that says it's country. The cd is supposed to be country and so I've tried to change it by going into Get Info and change the genre. It doesn't change no matter how many times I've tried. Any suggestions?

    Hi Chris,
    I too am having the same problem as mentioned previously. When I try to edit the genre, and info for my songs, all I get is a greyed-out screen. You mentioned that the songs could be read only, or the folder might not be selected for write permission. Could you please explain further how I can make this adjustment?
    Thanks!!
