Itunes 12 not playing podcasts in correct order

I upgraded to the new version of itunes and ever since it will not play the oldest podcast to newest as it used to do in itunes 11.  I found the settings and changed the setting to play from oldest to newest, I even changed the setting to show oldest on top and newest on bottom.  neither of these settings seems to be effective in controlling itunes.  How do I get these settings to actually effect itunes and not just be a placebo setting.
Thanks in advance for all help.

I'm having the same issue. I tried reinstalling but was not successful. Have also yet to hear back from Apple with a solution. Are you still having the issue?

  • ITunes does not play Podcasts in a row

    Hi everybody.
Why is it, that iTunes does not play Podcasts in a row like it does in individual playlists. It stops after each episode of a subscribed Podcast and I have to manually trigger the next one. Even more so, the iPod returns to its main menu after each episode in a Podcast. This is annoying, especially when I am driving or jogging.
Do I have to organize my Podcasts in playlists or is there another trick or tweak?
    Thank you!

Playlists are a possible workaround, but I just drill into the genre -> Podcast -> "All" -> podcast name to get to a list that plays straight through.

  • IPod Shuffle does not play podcasts in set order

I see others have been having this trouble and have tried the recommendations but they are not working.
I have tried to set the play order of podcasts and am only successful when I sort them by time. If I download a number of podcasts on the same day (someone said that they play by download date) I cannot set the play order. Someone said to drag the podcast to the desired order and that does not work with podcasts. It might with albums but not with podcasts.
In addition, someone said to drag each podcast to the iPod in the order you want each one played. That does not work, either. Finally, if I do settle for the order displayed in the iPod play list and I haven't sorted by time, the Shuffle will not play them in the order played in iTunes.
I have Shuffle set in iTunes to repeat all play; not shuffle. I don't use autofill. I'm sure I'm setting the button on the back of the Shuffle to play in order. Is there something I'm overlooking?
I'm running the latest of both iTunes and iPod Shuffle on Windows XP Pro. I just re-loaded this software on a new computer and had the same problem with XP Pro on the old computer.
Am I asking too much from iTunes? I don't use it for music. Do I actually need a more sophisticated program other then iTunes if I use Shuffle only for podcasts?

That is in fact how podacsts work in the iTunes/iPod system. The only sorting is based on release date (time) which is set and sortable only in iTunes. You aren't missing anything, and nothing you do subsequently will affect that order; podcasts are and are treated differently.

  • Please Help with Shuffle not playing Podcasts in Playlist order

Hi wanted to find out if others are going thru the same thing concerning PODCASTS. When I download a podcast and I put it into a playlist the podcasts should be able to be played in a sequential order as long as the number column is "clicked" so it plays 1,2,3 and so on. Well thats not happening....UGHHH when I sync my 2G shuffle now after 7.2 upgrade it decides it wants to put an episode of one type of podcast then another episode from another podcasts.. as if it is in random mode... But asure you I have the random/shuffle turned off both on the itunes and the shuffle itself. and everytime I go to sync it I can see the little circle updates syncing out of order and the sync window shows them being copied out of order... And so it syncs it to the order it comes up in the window. I cant get it to stop doing this. I have even tried unistalling 7.2 and quicktime and downgrading to 7.1.1.5 and it still is doing the same thing. Anybody please help this is very irritating... Thanks for your time....

I am trying to auto sort podcasts in a smart playlist.
Click in tethe h very first column and drag the podcasts in the order you want.
Right click on the playlist name and *Copy to play order*.

  • Ipod does not play audiotracks in correct order

I have several audiobooks that I transferred to my iPod. Unfortunately it does not play them in the correct order.
Initially the "Name" was something like "1-7 A is for Alibi" up to "7-7 A is for Alibi". The tracks in the info had all the correct numbers.
The iPod always started with 7-7 and went to 6-7. I changed the first part of the name to "1 of 7.....". Still the same problem.
I deleted the "1 of 7...." part. Still the same problem.
I switched the display in iTunes so the tracks were in the correct order. Still .. (you guessed it).
From the info panels I cannot see any tag that might cause the confusion.
    Anybody has eny idea?
    Thanks.
    iPod Video Windows XP Pro

Check your iPod settings to see if it is set to shuffle. I think this is the default setting in the iPod to shuffle audio tracks. The iPod's shuffle setting is independent of iTunes shuffle setting, so setting a playlist or your whole library in iTunes to shuffle or not shuffle will have zero effect on whatever the iPod setting is set for.

  • ITunes is not playing my music correctly., iTunes is not playing my music correctly.

I first realized this problem existed after trying to play music on my iPod Touch 3rd gen. The music did not sound clear and the lyrics are not distinguishable at all. I thought maybe my iPod was damaged or something had gotten into the speakers, so I logged on to the computer and played the same song(s) using iTunes. The songs I played along with a few others I tried sounded the same. My next idea was that the music files had been corrupted by iTunes. I searched for them in the iTunes Media folder and then tried playing them with Windows Media Player. To my surprise, the files sounded the way they should and were perfectly fine. I have no idea what the problem is or how to fix it.
    Additional details:
I have already tried uninstalling all the iTunes components and reinstalling. I uninstalled the components in the following order:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
The problem occurred after updating to:
iOS 5.0 for iPod Touch 3rd generation
    iTunes 10.5

    Hi eversonjm,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  If you are out of authorizations but only have 1 computer, deauthorizing all computers and reauthorizing your correct computer might be a good idea.  See this article for instructions:
iTunes Store: About authorization and deauthorization
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1420
If after deauthorizing and reauthorizing your computer, you are still not authorized for the 96 songs, this article has some steps for seeing the account name that was used to purchase a song, in the event that a different account may have been used:

Hi..can anyone help? Songs on my itunes are not playing to the end? They cut off part way through a song. Its not on all the songs but lots of them? thanks

A couple of months ago, I went to the Apple Store to try and sort this problem out. I was told that I was not playing my songs out of an actual music library. I created a library and loaded all of my songs, movies, etc. onto it. I had found that when I synced my songs from the new library onto my itouch, the songs no longer stopped in odd spots or bled into each other. To ensure that most of my songs had been fixed, I played the ones that were the most problematic. Fortunately, the songs play all the way through without any interruption. So far, I have not encountered the same problems that I had posted in my question. I apologize for not knowing the fellow's name who helped me with my iTouch at the Apple Store, but I would like to say how thankful and happy I am now that my iTouch no longer skips to the next song.
I know that other people have had this same issue with their iPods. If you encounter your music not playing correctly, I would suggest that making a new library and  loading all of your music into the new one may help correct the problem. I hope that this helps.

  • Play podcasts in chronological order?

How do you get iTunes to play podcasts in chronological order, automatically starting the next one when one finishes?

Put them in a playlist, arranged as you wish them to play. It's annoying to have to do this workaround, but it works.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click  Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
There will be no audio output in safe mode. The question to be answered by the test is whether any devices are listed in the Sound preference pane. After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • My Playlists won't play in the correct order

My problem, whenever I play my playlist(s) on my shuffle, they play in alphabetical order by the artist. I can't figure out how to change this setting.
When I'm in ITunes and my shuffle's connected I can sync my playlist(s) normally.
After I sync there are two "items" listed under my IPod Shuffle: "Music" which has all the songs in my playlist but ordered alphabetically by artist, and "Playlist" which has the same songs but ordered correctly.
It's obvious that the shuffle's playing the "Music" folder as opposed to "Playlist", and I've tried changing the order of songs in "Music", but nothing can be edited.
It's very frustrating that I can't figure out how to get my songs to play in the correct order. Can someone please share with me how to fix this issue?
    Thanks.

Maybe I'm reading the posts wrong, but I'm still having problems with the play order/copy to play order.
I have a playlist where I drag any new song I download. The playlist is ordered in the column on the left with the triangle. The latest song is added as number 1 on the playlist and the triangle is facing down.
On my 2nd gen shuffle, the ipod just copied any order as chosen in iTunes. On the first sync with 4th gen, the order was reversed. A long search pointed me to the "copy to play order". If I selected (or maybe rather if I deselect it), the list order is reversed (i.e. the last added song is put last), while the triangle is still facing down. The list is sync correctly (i.e. the last added song is put first), but any new song added to the playlist in iTunes is put before the (originally) last song.
Any time I click the "copy to play order", the order reverses, so now I don't know when I select and when I deselect it. In short, how do I retain the function of any added song to be put on the top of the list and have that order copied to the Shuffle.
Tnx. (ps sorry for the confusing explanation, but I just don't get it. In any case, it is very frustrating. Why is iTunes making decisions about play orders for me?)

  • Purchased songs from Itunes STILL not playing on ipod mini

I read all the posts about this issue, of purchased Itunes songs not playing on ipod. I deauthorized the computer and all computers associated with the account. then re authorized them. I reset the ipod several times, and also restored the ipod. I reinstalled the itunes software. I changed the sync to manual. removed one of the purchased songs. reauthorized the computer, then manually added the song back. I renamed the song. I even tried with downloading the free song. Any other suggestions. It made me look bad when after all of this I still could not fix the users issue. Other than declaring it a HARDWARE issue, I thought there could be a registry setting with the authorizing that did not happen properly. Has anyone else experienced this issue , and NOT been able to fix it. It would really appreciate any advice. My only conclusion was hardware, and the user states they had already spoke with apple who declined to help.

It may be an authorization issue. Both iTunes and the iPod need to be up-to-date.
Usually, you need to play at least a part of songs purchased from the iTMS within iTunes to authorize them. They won't copy to your iPod until you do this.
How to transfer Purchased Music from iTunes to your iPod
    iTMS Song and Computer Authorization
If you've played & authorized them in iTunes and they still skip, try this. De-authorize the computer in iTunes/Advanced menu, then re-authorize it. You re-authorize it by playing one of the songs purchased from the iTunes Music Store within iTunes. It should ask you for your Apple ID and password, and then the computer will be authorized again. Sync your iPod with iTunes, and those songs should play on the iPod once again.
Another common cause of this is not having the latest version of iTunes.
If you are using the latest version of iTunes (6.0.4), then you need to make sure your iPod software is up to date also. Get the iPod Updater software, install it, run it and update your iPod.
When you have done this, authorize your music in iTunes by playing a few seconds of it within iTunes, re-sync your iPod, and it should transfer by whatever synching method you choose.
If the above 'standard' fixes did not help, then it's a bigger problem that I can diagnose...
