ITunes 5.0.1 update on Mac has stopped 3G iPod working

I have a 60GB iPod Photo and a 15gb 3G iPod.
I updated my iTunes (in the forlorn hope that it would cure my non-auto-updating smart playlists) but of course it didn't. However, it did have the unfortunate side-effect of mucking up the link with my 3G iPod. Whenever I connect that to the Mac (it's on manual mode) you get "Do not disconnect" on the iPod display but it doesn't show up in iTunes. I have to eventually disconnect it and it's then OK - but I can't add any new music to it.
I wonder if it's related to it having slightly older firmware, but this is deliberate in that I wanted to avoid the non-functionality of the Smart Playlists issue. But perhaps there is some other cause. Anyone got any ideas?

I thought it was just ipod, maybe because I was playing movie files from it, but now I see other people are having problems. My 3G ipod is crashing or stalling when connected to to my computer via firewire. At first everyting looks normal, the "Do not disconnect" sign flashes a few times, but then the hard drive starts clicking and the screen on the ipod freezes (no flashing). And if I try to access it from the computer it crashes any program on which I try to do so, including Finder.
Right now, it did that and I forced restarted the ipod. As soon as I did that, all of the stalled programs on my computer started working fine. The ipod is now connected and flashing, but now it doesn't even show up on the computer, so I don't know how to eject it. I was able to get it to work once last night, but I forgot how. Apple, if other people are having this or similar problems, please fix it.

Sounds like a hardware problem with the touch screen. Contact Apple Support or visit an Apple Store for an evaluation.

When the Mac was setup you had to create an administrative password.and account. Yo have to sign into that account to install apps/plug-ins like Flash. To reset that password.

My i-Mac has stopped recognising my i-phone.

My i-Mac has stopped recognising my i-phone I have tried the following:
- Changing cables
- Changing ports
- updating software on both my phone and my mac
- restarting both devices (several times!)
The cable seems to be working to charge my phone but it is not coming up in finder or any of the apps (itunes etc)
Any suggestions greatfully received!

Start with the third box in Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
If that doesn't work, use the steps in the second box to repair your iTunes installation. Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup advice elsewhere in the user tip.

Are you sure it's not 6.1.6? If it is, that is the latest iOS version that will work on a 4th generation iPod Touch. Later versions require a 5G iPod which has twice as much RAM.

So I tried something else recently and it seems to have fixed the issue. My mail is now getting new mail again and refreshing after waking from sleep without having to restart mail. Give it a try and hopefully it will help you too.
First, make sure your Mailbox List is visible (Shift + Control + M). Then select all of your inboxes, mailboxes, and folders (not just the root folder for nested folders, make sure to select them all). Then under the "Mailbox" menu, select "Rebuild."
It may take a while to rebuild them all if you have a lot, but like I said it seems to have done the trick for me. I hope that proves to be more of a long-term solution.

Itunes gives me the message that it has detected an ipod in recovery mode, you must restore the ipod. when I clikk the "restore" button the download begins and after 30 minutes, I get the original message that itunes detects an ipod in recovery mode.

This is a 30 minute process. Once the download completes, I get the same message "iTunes detects an iPod in recovery mode....". I'm running Windows Vista and ZoneAlarm security software.
I've tried this restore function multiple times and still get the same results.
I've also tried resetting the iPod by holding the wake/sleep button and the Home button at the same time. The iPod turns on but shows the icons of a usb cable connecting to iTunes.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Three things to try...
Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
Can you open Adobe Reader by itself? If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].

In System Preferences>Fax & Print, Right click or Control+click on the Printers list Sidebar, choose Reset Printing System.
if you hold option and click the "-" tab it resets the printing system.

Hello. I'm a very longstanding Adobe user, but a complete newcomer to the forum.
My problem? We have a suite of e-learning courses which are built in Flash, but which use a Director player (11.5) to launch them from CD-Rom. The new release of shockwave player (version 12) has stopped our courses working on a mac. We tried rebuilding the player file with Director 12, but this didn't resolve the problem. Can anyone help? We are in the same case. Since 1999, we have also built an e-learning suite on CD with Director 5 to 11.5 for Mac and Windows. And now, we have some problems with Shockwave 12 on OSx 10.7.
On Windows 8, there was already an error with shokwave: " L'ordinal 1265 est introuvable dans la bibliothèque de liaisons dynamique IML32.dll "
. It was enough to delete two files: « IML32.DLL » et « DIRAPI.DLL ». See on Adobe site :

Can't download itunes 10.7 without updating to Mac OS X 10.6.8

I downloaded itunes 10.7 but cant install it unless i update my software to Mac OS X 10.6.8. I just got the iphone 5 and need to activate but am not able to due to that error message.
When i check software updates thats not available to not sure what to do.

I am am having the same problem. My macbook is from 2009 and recently stopped updating to the latest software. Apparently my license agreement or whatever has run out and in order to get the latest software I have to pay for it. However my mac has been running so slow lately I fear paying to update for fear that my mac will just die. So sad, my mac has always been so good until recently. My itunes kept saying it was up to date and it wouldn't update my iphone, so I went to the website and downloaded 10.7 only to find out that I can't install it. So sad, my computer is officially so outdated that I can't do anything now without paying! ****....whats a girl to do. I feel you on this. Im running on Mac 10.5.8 too, and yep...were just that outdated.
