ITunes 5 and shared music folder

After upgrading to iTunes 5 i was no longer able to see others in my network who have music to share. I went to another computer on the network with an older version and Shared Music was showing that I was connected. I made sure that my options were set to Search for Shared Music. So, something should show up, but nothing is displayed under the Shared Music file in the sidebar.

Itunes 5.0 will see shares from older versions I'll state that anything older than 4.5 might be a problem though. At this time there is a known bug with sharing and Itunes 5.0 that Apple as yet to address. Just wait for Itunes 5.1 to fix a lot of bugs.

  • Discrepancy Between iTunes and My Music Folder

Didn't really know how to word this but at the bottom of my iTunes it says I have 10,345 songs and it's 45.58 GB
but when I click on the properties of the folder where my library is, it says I have 10,829 files and it's 46.25 GB
    where's the discrepancy coming from?

Itunes is only showing you the amount of songs/videos ect. Your music folder has other files like downloaded album art files.

  • Itunes and sharing music

Before I upgraded my iTunes, I was able to share music with other computers that are on the same network... but after I upgraded to the iTunes 5.0.1.4 version, iTunes states that there are no users connected under the preferences in tab, "Sharing"-- but I know for a fact there are... what should I do?

just checking on something else ... do you have "look for shared music" checked in your sharing preferences?

I have an external network hard drive with a shared music folder (WD MyBookLive), which I can access from Home Sharing and play music on my Windows computers. On my new Mac, I can see the drive and the music in Home Sharing but the tracks will not play. All the other authorized computers in my home network show up in Home Sharing and I can play the content. What's the solution?

  • Shared Music Folder

I live in a dorm and do not have a "Shared Music" folder. Everyone else on my hall has this folder and is able to listen to each other's music. I installed the latest update for iTunes, and have also switched my preferences to allow for shared music, but I am still having no luck. Any insights would be appreciated.

You shoud try resetting permissions using BatChmod. This is a utility essential for those with multiple logins on the same Mac.

  • 2 iPhones, 2 accounts, shared music folder

So my wife was using our Powerbook to sync all of her information. Given that the powerbook is not intel based, she could not upgrade to iTunes 10, and could not update her iPhone with the latest software.
We have opted to have her switch from the powerbook to my dell. That being said we would like to have one shared "music" folder so that both accounts share the same iTunes library. The only thing of concern to me is that I don't want our phones to sync the same app data. For example, we each have the same app, but with different user settings. If we both sync off the same shared music folder will we lose our individual app settings and receive the same "app file" so that we lose our unique app settings and data?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

iTunes 10 does not require an Intel Mac.

No. 3rd party app settings and data created and stored by an app is not stored with or synced with the copy of the app in your iTunes library. 3rd party app settings and data created and stored by a 3rd party app is included with your iPhone's backup. iTunes creates and maintains a separate backup for each device.

  • Since downloading spotify trial (one month), i seem to have lost itunes and my music from my dock. how do i bring my music back

Since downloading Spotify app (trial for 1 month), i seem to have lost itunes from my dock, including my music. How do i bring it & all my music back. the last time i saved it to my hard drive was 3 months ago.

If you start iTunes from Launchpad or Applications. It will Show the icon on the desktop. Right mouse click select Options and Keep in Dock.
When you say your music has dissapeared is it removed from your hard drive?
username/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music is the path to my music on the local hard drive?
If it is missing from itunes then redrag the Music folder back into iTunes and your music should reappear.
Or did you mean something else?

My daughter has used my computer to log into iTunes and download music but now it won't let me download recently purchased music from my iPad onto my computer. I want to transfer the recently purchased songs onto my iPod so how can I do this now? iTunes now says that I have to wait another 55 days! There must be a way to do this since I have paid for them.

In iTunes sign out of your daughters Apple ID and sign in with your own.

  • I have all my music in iTunes and have "Music Match" turned on.  Apparently, I also have music on my iPhone 5.  I need to free up space on my iPhone.  If I delete the music on my phone, will it still be available to me on my phone via the cloud?

The same is true for photo's.  I have too many photo's on my phone taking up space.  Now I realize I can remove a lot of the photo's via sync options, but ...

This can happen if iTunes gets confused about what is and isn't on the device. These steps should resolve.
    Backup the device.
    Restore as a new device.
    Restore the backup made earlier.

By any chance, did you have the Find My iPhone app installed prior to it being stolen?

Hopefully you had your iTunes purchases backed up to an external source such as an external drive or CD's?

  • Purchasing a new HDD, need help a few details concerning iTunes and my music.

Alright, so I am currently using the hard drive that came with my computer when I got it way back when. I'm looking to upgrade ( For storage and performance improvements) and my question is this: What would be the best method to get my OS and files to the new HDD, while preserving the play count for my music as well as making it as smooth as possible with iTunes and my music?

If I've read that correctly, step 4 should be unnecessary because iTunes will know where your music is (the external HD).
Do step 4 if your library hasn't filled up with songs from your external HD by the time you come to step 4, so to speak.

  • ITunes and Classical Music

I've got a question about iTunes and classical-music playback. The symphonies, concertos, etc. that I've got are all properly tracked (1 of 4, 2 of 4, etc.) and albumed (1 of 1, etc.). The problem that's driving me nuts comes when I play them on the iPod. I'll select, for example, Beethoven's 6th symphony and playback will consist of ... Movement 1, Movement 3, Movement 2 and Movement 4. What have I done wrong. I've tried clicking "yes" for compilations and still nothing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This might seem obvious, but make sure "shuffle" is not selected under Settings. I shuffle when I play pop and often to forget to switch the setting off when I decide to listen to classical.

  • Problems: iPhone, iTunes and the Music App

As the title suggests, iPhone, iTunes and the music app on the iPhone have all been causing me a great deal of frustration. I am experienceing a number of seamingly related problems:
    1. After adding new music and syncing my phone with iTunes, iTunes seems to "choose" what songs it wants to sync even though I clearly have "Sync Entire Music Library" checked.
    2. When all my music does sync on my phone, certain songs will be missing in the app or will only show up when searching for them using the search bar in the stock music app. Other times they will show up in the "Music" tab and not any of my playlists or under the "Albums" tab.
    3. I have experienced a couple instances in which WHOLE ENTIRE ALBUMS are missing from my music app on the iPhone, but will still show up when searching for them.
    4. One album will display split up into two inside the music app even though they are organized into one unit on iTunes.
I have erased and re-synced all music from my iPhone multiple times, which will fix the issue for a short period then reappear.
I have an AT&T iPhone 5 with iOS 7.1 and the latest version of iTunes 11.1.5 (5)
If someone can tell me whats going on or at least let me know if this is a common problem. If it is I really hope Apple knows about it and is fixing it.

    Hello gman4354,
It sounds like your phone is not syncing correctly to your computer, and the Music app is not functioning correctly even after deleting and re syncing your music from the app. I recommend starting by turning off your Music syncing in iTunes by unchecking that box in the Music tab when you have the phone connected, and clicking apply.
Then close the Music app on the phone:
iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that and restart the phone and sync the Music to your phone again to re test the issue:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

You can only sync with one iTunes library/computer. To switch:
