ITunes 5: Library and iPod totals out of sync

Anyone else experiencing this one since upgrading to iTunes 5? I think it's related to the fact that podcasts are now included in the Library in iTunes5 and not separated like in iTunes 4.9. What's weird is the more I update my podcasts, the more out of sync the two totals seem to get. I've tried removing/readding my entire music library/podcasts in iTunes 5 but still seeing discrepencies between it and my iPod totals. When I check Settings - About on my iPod, it seems to list just the song data. Any tips/tricks to dealing w/ this one?

Same here... I have my podcast prefs set to save the last 3 episodes but still see all kinds of old podcasts in my iTunes library (and in my iTunes\iTunes Music\Podcasts directory on my hard drive). Suspect all of this is related to the new iTunes 5 implementation where podcasts get treated as songs and some bug that's preventing the podcasts episodes from being purged correctly. I find I can delete the older podcasts from my iTunes library manually but the Library totals don't seem to update. Also noticed the Settings- About values on my iPod just list "song" counts (no podcasts) further compounding the problem. Wonder if the rumored 5.1 release will address this?

My computer has totally crashed with my latest itunes library.  I have a new computer and on downloading itunes my library automatically populated but there are hundreds of songs missing and multiple duplicates.  So now my itouch is up to date but my itunes library has regressed to an earlier version so if I sync I will lose hundreds of songs from my itouch is there any way to sync my itouch to my itunes library?

  • Itune lost library old ipod need to be sync

Hi I got itune messed up and when updating (i talk about few months ago perhaps) lost all my music and ipod playlist. So now I have my ipod (ipod nano 5th generation) with my music but if I sync with itune it will get erased so I'd like to repeat the process of syncing starting from a full ipod.
    question 1:
Now i managed to get the music from the ipod save on my computer with this post http://macs.about.com/od/backupsarchives/ss/copy-ipod-music-to-mac_6.htm
now what i'd like to do is to put these songs from the folder where are saved directly to "my ipod" playlist rather than drag to music main folder of itune. drag and drop won't work I searched how to send songs from a folder to a playlist and came across this post http://hintsforums.macworld.com/archive/index.php/t-40585.html ) it suggest to download a script which a did but once put in the folder I don't know how to run it...
    suggestions?
I thought about delete all the music in music itune and put the song of folder "my ipod" as new total music library then send them all to ipod playlist and then rebuild my music library but if there is another way i'd prefer...
    question 2 :
if i manage to put those song in the "my ipod playlist" how to tell ipod to sync on that playlist? if i go to my ipod section in itune (when plugged) and then music tab the music syncing is already set on "selected playlist"  but won't tell me which one (and I might doubt is different name) and if i thick "sync music" it will ask me to start syncing without allowing me to change the setting already pre set.
    question 3:
if itune will be so smart to sync the ipod with "my ipod" playlist will it delete the on the go playlist? i'd like to keep that on my ipod, otherwise i have to export it. I found this post http://forums.ilounge.com/ipod-classic-ipod-5g-video/210062-how-can-i-get-playli st-off-my-new-160-gb-ipod-classic-into-itunes.html on how to export and import the playlist and I tried but it tell me that not all the file were imported cause they haven't been found. still on the ipod they are all there
    Thanks

i have all my drivers and software up to date. i have tried just about everything i can find on the forums but nothing has helped at all.
my laptop is windows 7 64 bit and is brand new. my ipod is an ipod classic 80gb and 5-7 years old now. music, podcasts, photos and tv programs all sync fine but when i try adding files which go under film i start getting problems. all the files i want i had on my ipod while using my old laptop so they should all go on fine but most of the videos now start syncing but then the bar stops and either itunes freezes for ages then closes down or i get an error message (error 50) and then itunes closes down anyway. this is really annoying and i have no ideas left. please please please can someone help me

  • Why are my iTunes movie rentals and music stuttering, out-of-sync and freezing?

I've been having this issue ever since I updated to iTunes 11.0.1.
I'm running a mac mini, 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7, 4 GB of memory on 10.7.5.
I've never had this issue before, having watched HD movies from the iTunes store successfully in the past. Only with the last two (Looper and now Source Code) have I been experiencing problems. I've noticed the same issue with music. Songs will freeze and stutter.
I've tried contacting Apple directly. All they do is refund the price of the rental. I need a resolution or I will NOT be using iTunes for much longer.

I am also having an issue like this with iTunes HD content.
I will be watching a TV show or movie and video will pause
for a second or two then start again. Audio during this period
is not interrupted. This can happen once or as many as 3 or 4
    times during a viewing.
I have a MacMini 2010 connected via HDMI.
As a note, it seems to me to be an iTunes HD (DRM) issue, as I can play,
with iTunes, material that is 1080p @ 8 megabit/second without any
    issue.
In addition, I can play 1080p content @ bitrates as high as 33 megabits/second
with other players and have no issue what so ever! I can also play Blurays when
using Windows 7 in Bootcamp with no issue what so ever.
Is this issue only related to HDMI connections or is it also present with other
    set ups?

  • Is it possible to transfer music between iPhones and iPods with out using iTunes

Is it possible to transfer music between iPhones and iPods with out using iTunes

Nope.  Both require iTunes on a computer to sync music from.
Unless the iPod is an iPod Touch and the music was bought from iTunes.  In which case the Touch can simply go to the iTunes App, under Purchased  and download the purchased songs for free.

    Hello DHolland1
You can do one of two things, first is to locate the songs on your computer by looking in the iTunes Folder. Once found then drag and drop them on top of iTunes to import them in. The second option is to revert back to a previous version of your iTunes library to get the data back before you installed. The articles below will assist with those steps.

  • How to restore library and iPod from external flash drive

I had trouble getting my iPod to load new music after I got a new PC. I reinstalled iTunes and the new music loaded but the old music in my library and iPod were deleted. How do I transfer my music from my flash drive back to my library and iPod classic?

did you ever find the answer to this question? I have the same problem

  • ITunes music library on iPod

I don't really need to have my music on two places: iTunes Library and iPod. iPod should be enough. But a lot of services and views are available in Library. So what if I put my entire Library to my iPod? It works! But in that case the music consumes twice more place, because it's held in two places. I tried to use hard links (HFS formatted iPod), it seems to be working, but really hard to find the files.
Do you know some solution for this problem? Or some method to make much more simply the hardlinking? (In fact when iTunes copies the music to iPod, it should be an ln instead of cp.)

If you want to delete songs from iTunes and keep them on the iPod you need to change the update option of your iPod to "manually manage music and videos" (this setting isn't available for an iPod shuffle, you can't delete from iTunes and keep the songs on the shuffle). The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different, you can get details here:
    Managing content manually on iPod
    iPod - Syncing Music
One major word of caution. You should consider investing in an additional internal or external hard drive to store/back up anything you can't replace such as iTunes downloads. Alternatively back them up to CD or DVD: How to back up your media in iTunes
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod
Don't delete anything until you have changed the update option. If by any chance you do however you can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 or later installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Once you are connected the settings can be changed: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows

  • Songs have disappeared from my library and Ipod.  I have found some in trash but I did not send them there.  Others have completely gone.

Hi - I have discovered that some songs have disappeared from my itunes library and Ipod. I have found some of them in trash even though I did not trash them, as they are some of my all time favourite songs.  I have now restored these trashed songs to my library/ipod.
However I cannot find some other missing songs in trash - so I have no idea where they could be! It makes me feel very insecure about itunes as a whole.  I would prefer music to diamionds - and it disturbs me when music just disappears like that!  An explanation/solution would be gratefully received.  I wonder whether I can ask Apple to pay for the items that have gone for good!

    Andrea,
have you tried to update the Ipod? If not try that, but do not restore it. If you still cannot find the songs, there is - I suppose you are using windows - a nifty little program available from Findley Designs (www.findleydesigns.com) that allows you to transfer Music from your Ipod to your PC. Download it and see if it works with one song, if it does it is about USD 14 to buy and helps if you want to transfer songs from your Ipod to your computer. If you have transferred the music to your computer you can restore your Ipod-
    Good luck
    Thomas

    A Espinoza,
The iTunes Media folder is set in Preferences > Advanced, and is the key to most iTunes folder organizational activities.  So I doubt that the automatic deletion will work for files that are somewhere else within the folder structure.
However, I have not experimented with that issue in quite a while, so you are welcome to give it a try in iTunes 11.

  • I previoulsy have adding many CD to my iTunes music library and then synched them with my iPhone so that I have all music in both places. And I could the CDs in iTunes or iPhone with no problems. Recently, my iTunes "sees" the music but won't play it. Why

I have added many CD to my iTunes music library and then synched them with my iPhone so that I have all music in both places. Then I could the play them in iTunes or iPhone with no problems. Recently, my iTunes "sees" the music library but won't play any of it becuase "the original could not be found". If I attach my iPhone, then it pays them through the iPhone, but still not through the library in iTunes. How can I get the music library on my iPhone to transfer (i.e. restore it) to iTunes? I have iPhone 4S but have not upgraded to the iOS 6, and have not had any problems until last week.  Help!  Thanks.

Check the manual for whatever backup program you used, or, if you just copied the files over, copy them that.
How to restore data to your PC is outside the scope of these forums.

Right-click any song in iTunes, show it in the Windows Explorer, navigate up to the iTunes Music folder, and drag it there.
