Itunes 5 remove music from library

when i try to remove music frmo the library, it says that if i do it will also remove the music from my ipod... how can i make it just so that it removes music from the library and NOT my IPOD?

Oh, boy! Definitely been there! I had about 5GB on my iPod photo, when I connected it to iTunes and ended up with a big "***?????"-face when all my data was erased...
So let me tell you what to do in order to avoid this:
Actually it's quite simple. When you have your iPod connected to your computer and you start iTunes, you have to click on your iPod (on the left side column in the iTunes window). You will then see all your songs you have on your iPod in the list, but you will also see a cogwheel in the lower right corner. It's right next to the eject-button and the visualizer-button.
Clicking on this button will open the iPod preferences window. There you have to make sure the option "update iPod automatically" is UNCHECKED!!! DON'T CHECK THAT BOX!
I won't tell you in detail what happens, if you do so...just every track that's not in your iTunes library anymore will be erased from your iPod.
Hope I could help.

  • ITunes removed music from external hard drive.

So I'm planning to upgrade my motherboard soon and though it'd be a good idea to save my current iTunes library. I decided I'd save it onto my external HD, where my current music is. I forgot to create a new folder to save it in but that shouldn't have been a problem; iTunes is smart enough to not delete or tamper with any current files, isn't it? Turns out it isn't, and it deleted a large portion of my music (probably around 50%), either full albums, leaving only the album artwork, or, for whatever reason, just a few songs from albums. It has to have saved the iTunes library I was trying to create somewhere, but I don't know where.

The "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library" preference tells iTunes to make local copies inside the designated iTunes Media folder (set on the same preference tab) of any file newly added to the library that is stored outside of the media folder when added to the library. The original files should be left untouched. Any files already connected to the library will be left where they are when that option is changed. Use File > Library > Organize Library > Consolidate Files to make copies if required.
"Keep iTunes Media folder organized" tells iTunes to rearrange the files and folders of the media folder according to the tag metadata. For music this is the general layout <Media Folder>\Music\<Artist>\<Album>\## <Name>.<Ext>. Files located outside of the media folder are left alone.
As I say I've never had a problem, but I do see the occasional thread on the topic of lost content. Generally I'm inclined towards operator misunderstanding/error. The only potential mechanism I can come up with would be if somehow the "Keep" process used a copy then delete mechanism instead of move operations and multiple paths to the same files were involved, but since I know iTunes doesn't overwrite an existing file with the target name (instead it generates a different name to use for the new file) I can't see how that would go wrong either. There is another thread regarding the use of the feature to make reduced bitrate songs for syncing to the device in which one user says he finds that his originals get removed. Again I have no idea why this could be happening but it is likely to involve some unique circumstances since other users of that feature do not have a problem.
If/when you rebuild your library see this backup tip.

if you use iTunes match in order to create space and remove music from your hard drive, does that happen automatically when you subscribe and upload your music or is there another step to remove the music from your hard drive once you've uploaded to iTunes match?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
iTunes match won't automatically remove content from your computer, if you want to do that you will need to do it manually yourself.

I can't download my itunes purchased music from my library to my 4th generation nano ipod.

An iPod Touch is not a backup/storage device. You should have been maintaining a backup of your personal data on an external HDD using Time Machine or other backup software of your choice.
However, there are ways to "recover" the music:
Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive
Once you have recovered the music I strongly suggest you purchase an external HDD and start using Time Machine to keep a backup of your personal data.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
The music sync is one - way - computer to ipod.  The only exception is itunes purchases.

  • Cannot play music from library. URL/itunes/win/1.5/was not found on this server

CAN NOT PLAY MUSIC FROM LIBRARY.  MESSAGE READS URL/ITUNES/WIN/10.5/WAS NOT FOUND ON THIS SERVER.
    APACHE/2.2.3 (Oracle) Server at help.apple.com Port 80

I have the same problem, where iTunes seems to work OK, but the server where they maintain their help files is not available. It looks to me like Apple keeps all their help information on a server named help.apple.com, and the people that maintain that server have not gotten around to creating the appropriate help folders for iTunes 10.5. If you go to http://help.apple.com/itunes/win/10.4, you find the help for 10.4. Maybe it's the same as for 10.5, and maybe not.

  • Cant remove music from my iphone

I cant remove music from my iphone. I have tried de-selecting the sync all music from itunes and it removes all music except 27 songs that are not even songs I have put on my phone. They are from my wifes library. I assume they were added through the cloud. I have turned off all cloud options but still cant remove the 27 songs. Anyone have any ideas?

I have also tried using the touch and swipe method with no luck. I have tried selecting and de-selecting the manually manage music and videos option with no luck. I have read a post that someone resolved this by restoring the phone but I have text messages that I need so I was hoping there was another way to fix this issue.

  • Remove music from iPhone after enabling iCloud/match

After enabling iCloud and iTunes Match, then after having some songs downloaded on my iPhone, I want to cycle some out and pull new ones down. However, I do not see how I can remove music from my iPhone. If I delete the playlist, the entire playlist is wiped from my master iTunes library, which removes it from all devices that use iCloud/Match.
How do I selectively control what stays on my iPhone?
    Thanks,
    Derek

If that is on, I highly recommend looking at th KB article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4054
    Specifically:
Make sure iTunes Match is turned on.
Please see this article for information about turning on or adding a computer or device to iTunes Match.
If iTunes Match is already enabled on your computer or device, try turning iTunes Match off and then on again.
On your Computer choose Store > Turn Off iTunes Match, then Store > Turn On iTunes Match.
On your iOS device tap Settings > Music > iTunes Match Off, then Settings > Music > iTunes Match On.
And sadly, you apparently can delete a song from Match from your phone.
I am sorry, but no, you can't. If that were true, you would no longer see the song in your music library on your computer, and it would most likely be gone forever. The only way to remove an item from iTunes Match:
To delete an item from iCloud in iTunes
From a computer with iTunes Match enabled, open iTunes 10.5.1 or later on your computer. You can download the latest version of iTunes here.
Click Music on the left side of iTunes.
Select the item you would like to delete. Right-click the item and then choose Delete.
You will be asked to confirm this action.
If the item you want to delete exists in iTunes on your computer as well as in iCloud, click the checkbox to also delete the item from iCloud.
Match is a train wreck. They need to make it work simply and intuitively.
I don't disagree with you on this.

  • How can I remove music from my iPhone that's not on a playlist, or checked off in the Sync window in any of the possible categories (Playlist, genre, artist, etc)? HELP! It's taking up SO much space on my phone

How can I remove music from my iPhone that's not on a playlist, or checked off in the Sync window in any of the possible categories (Playlist, genre, artist, etc)? HELP! It's taking up SO much space on my phone but I cannot see a way to remove any of it

If it's slow on startup it would be extensions loading or LaunchDaemons starting up.
You should have a look in:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
    /Library/Extensions
You can count out anything in your home folder and it shouldn't put anything in /System as that's reserved for Apple.

    Hello mail4bru,
I read your post, and it sounds as though you'd like to learn more about iTunes syncing. I have linked to an article that will instruct you on that:

  • Cannot remove music from iPad. Why?

I need to remove music from my iPad to create space to import movies. However, via iTunes/Sync even though I uncheck the Sync Music box I find that the music remains on my iPad. What am I doing wrong?

It should remove the music once you click on your phone in the left pane and go to the music tab at the top of the iTunes screen. I have tried this myself just now with my iPhone 4S. Once I deselected sync all music, the capacity bar at the bottom changed to show no music. If I had selected sync, all my music would have been removed from my phone.
Since you removed the music from directly from the phone and not iTunes, once you connect to iTunes and sync, the same music will be synced back onto the phone.
Try playing with the settings and see what you come up with. Also, try closing iTunes and restart your computer amd see if this fixes things.

  • How do i remove music from the cloud

    Hi
How do i remove music from the cloud which is showing on my i-phone

You can't permanently delete any items from your purchase history, but you can hide items via your computer's iTunes so that they don't show : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4919
If your tagline is wrong and your phone is on iOS 7 and you have music in the cloud showing in the Music app on your phone, then you can also turn that off via Settings > iTunes & App Store

  • How do I remove music from ipad

I am having trouble removing music from my iPad that I synced from my computer

    Hi Rebecca31,
What happens when you try to delete the music in your Music App?
If I am viewing the songs by "Songs" list, I can just swipe left to right on the song listing and a red Delete button appears on the right.  (Note that doen't happen when viewing in Playlists.)
If viewing as Artists or Album, I can touch and hold on a particular artist or album which brings up the little "x" icon similar to deleting an app.  If I don't want to delete all af that artist I can tap the Artist (or Album) to see the included song list then swipe across individual songs to delete them as above.
Edit, if I'm in a Playlist, the swipe option doesn't work, but there is an "Edit" button in the upper right.  Note that still won't delete the actual music, but allows you to modify, add or remove songs from the playlist.
    ivan
