ITunes 6.0.2 does not upgrade - "digital sig incorrect"

Hello all,
Relatively new to Mac and new to this forum. Encountered a strange error, or so it seems to me, when attempting to use the Software Update feature of my iBook G4. It found that there were upgrades available to iTune 6.0.2 and iPod Updater 2006-01-10. I clicked to initiate the download and installation process -- although after reading all the problems people here are having with iTunes 6.0.2 maybe I am better off without it! -- and get the following message: "The digital signature for this package is incorrect. The package may have been tampered with or corrupted since being signed by “Apple”. Software Update could not expand the package correctly."
I have no idea what this means, nor how to fix it...nor if I really want or need to. The Software Updater had no problems downloading and installing updates for the Mac OS and some other program. Any ideas on what's up here? Thanks!

Dave,
From the number of posts you have I'd say you know a bit more about Apple than I do, and may have information I'm not aware of. Rather than try to argue my information against yours (which just seems to get the thread locked), I'd like to ask for a source on some information you have, but I can't seem to verify.
All the iTunes Ministore window reports to
Apple is the currently selected track. I don't
know why you seem to want to exaggerate that into
some sort of massive spying activity on Apple's
part.
As to the passage you quoted, when you open an iTunes
Music Store account, buy anything from the Apple
Store, or even create an Apple ID, you've entered in
some sort of "personal information". But that has
nothing do to with the iTunes Ministore.
From what I've read on line, it is my understanding that the Ministore also reports my Apple ID which, as you point out, is in Apple's database along with my credit card info, name, address, phone number, e-mail, username, password, equipment purchased, software registered, .Mac account, etc.
Have I been reading from the wrong websites, or has the situation changed? Did they use to send the Apple ID but don't any more, or they never did?
I'd believe Apple, if I could find the URL where they speak on the subject.

Apple themselves stated that the selected track was the only thing being sent to the iTMS, and others have confirmed that with traffic analyzers.
Where can I find the Apple statement, and the information you are quoting about traffic analyzers? A Google search didn't find any statement by Apple on the subject, and I have not found it anywhere on Apple.com. Like I said, the information I've read says my Apple ID is/was being sent.
I can post the URL's of where my info came from, if you would like to check them out. I didn't do it here, because I don't want this to be perceived as a *issing contest, and it read that way when I had the URLs embedded in the post.
I've used Macs since the 512k, and my first purchase was a IIci 8/80. I want to believe Apple, but everything I read says don't, and I can't find anything from Apple except locked threads.
Got anything for me?
