ITunes 6.0.2 shows incorrect track lengths, clips track when playing

I just upgraded to iTunes 6.0.2. In previous versions, iTunes would often show incorrect track lengths on longer tracks, but would play them all the way through, with the time remaining staying at 0:00 until the track finished playing. This new version simply cuts the track off at the incorrect endtime. For example, I have a track with a length of 17:33, but iTunes has always shown it as 17:28. No big deal, it would always play to the end. Now, the new version cuts it off abruptly at 17:28. There seems to be no way to correct the track length. Is there any way to fix the track lengths to their correct times, or get them to at least play all the way through?? These are custom mixes and not from commercial CDs, so simply re-ripping isn't an option.

I have recently accused Emusic.com of supplying truncated tracks only to find that Itunes 6.02 and 6.03 (Mac) is clipping the start and end of the tracks. The counter gives the correct length but the playing is not correct. Fade out / in are off. Playing the offending tracks in quicktime or any other player gives all the track music.
Looking deeper shows that the tracks in question are all VBR .mp3 tracks (Variable Bit Rate).
Solutions to date are to either play in another player (not ideal).
Convert the tracks to fixed bit rate .mp3 using the setting nearest to the highest variable bit rate. Amazingly this works even when the conversion is done in Itunes. Your file size should be same or larger to avoid quality loss.
On playing the tracks I have converted the counter in Itunes gives the same reading but the tacks are not truncated.
Some VBR tracks do not seem to have the problem but that is usually because the nature of the track makes it less obvious.

  • Why can't iTunes resume playback of the last track I played before closing it?

If Safari can recall the last page I had open when I closed it, and Preview can open the last documents I had open, why can't iTunes resume playback of the last track I played?
Come on guys, a search on the internet will bring up discussions from the early 2000s with the question of resuming playback. Just add the feature already.

HI THanks for this helpful post. I will try this. I have 2 iPods. One is 3rd Gen. I love the little small square, so I bought it on ebay. Then I got a little iPod nano ( again a tiny square shape)
So I tried to sync them today and update them.
This is the response I got.
I get a message that the original file cannot be found and asks if I want to try and locate file.  I locate the file and it's empty?!
This freaked me out because I have all this music I love. The only thumb drive is my back up drive which is not a thumb. Will the back up drive have my music files too?
    Thanks-Peace Out

  • I recently got an iphone 5S and my songs not purchased from iTunes are grayed out (phone only) and are skipped past when playing them through my iPhone.

I recently got an iphone 5S and my songs not purchased from iTunes are grayed out (phone only) and are skipped past when playing them through my iPhone. i have tried the following:
    1) Removing all music from phone and resynced to iTunes PC library.
    2) Erased phone and restored from back up
    3) Erased phone and started as a new iPhone
    4) Reformated the music files in my library that weren't playing
    5) Deleted songs from iPhone and computer and re-imported CDs
    6) Tried to redownload my COMPLETE MUSIC LIBRARY from iCloud.
    7) I have also turned it off and turned it back on several times
    8) I tried syncing through my macbook (only moved partial songs to it to see if it would even work).
    9) I have tried to get Siri to play them, did not work.
    10) All music does play fine on my iPod Touch 3rd (iOS6 i think) gen and iTunes on Mac and PC
    11)  I added a CD to my roommates iTunes and it plays on their iPhone 5S but not mine.
After all of these things it is now WORSE!!!  My iTunes purchased songs are now experiencing the same issue along with some (not all) of the original music files that were skipping and grayed out.  My conclusion is i have no clue at this point!  I have done everything i have found online in EVERY discussion, i have spent over 60 hours trying to get this to work and i am asking myself, i bought this product why am having to fix this when it worked just fine on my iPod touch (3rd Gen) and iPod Classic!!!!  PLEASE APPLE FIX THIS ISSUE FOR US!!!!

I had this problem too after i upgdatd to OS X Mavericks... only the songs on my iphone 5s that i purchased from itunes would play.
i read something about it being a syncing issue. when you plug your phone into your computer with the usb cable, the person said to switch from automatic syncing of itunes to the "manual" option. mine was already set to manual so i wasn't sure anything would work. BUT, when i plugged my phone into my computer, it started to sync all of my music on my phone again (top of itunes bar where song playing/time is listed said "now syncing 123/534 songs to x's iphone"). once that was completed, i checked the music app on my iphone and everything was back to normal!
so, i would suggest setting your music syncing settings to manual if you haven't tried that yet!
    hope this helps!

  • Showing Photos While Video Clips Continue to Play

I am trying to fade in photos while a video clip and its sound continue playing. (Although the video clip continues to play, it's obscured by the photo.)
Currently when I place a photo into the storyboard the video clips stop playing, the photo shows, and then the video starts again.
Does anyone know how photos can appear in my movie without interrupting the playing of the video and its audio?
    Thanks!

    Hi bcas and welcome!
You want to superimpose a still photo on a moving video? No problem!
But you need to buy Quicktime Pro. Here is how to do it (don't worry about the references to video within video, it works the same for stills - you will soon get the hang of it!
Organise the video clips and/or stills that you want to superimpose on to your main video clip, by having these in separate, individual iMovie projects (no matter how small). It helps if these are in the exact length/time you want later.
Now start with the clip in your iMovie project on to which you want to superimpose one of more smaller video clips or stills. Lets call it Main Clip. Export this (share) to Quicktime Pro in DV (full quality). make sure it has the same aspect as before (Quicktime tends to default to 4:3. If you want 16:9, read on).
In Quicktime, with this project open, select File ~ Open File. Select the iMovie file (in your movies folder) of the first clip/still you want superimposed. This will open in its own QT window. Select Edit ~ copy. If it is a movie clip then select all ~ copy (or you will only get one frame!). Switch back to the Main Clip window, and click in the scroll bar where you want the extra clip/still to appear. Choose Edit ~ Add to Movie.
You can repeat this as many times as you like, if you want to build a 'Video Wall', i.e. have several superimposed clips/stills on the same Main Clip.
Do not worry that the new clip overlaps or covers up the Main Clip, at this stage.
Choose Window ~ Show Movie Properties. The Properties Dialogue appears.
You will see a list of video (and audio) tracks. Track one will be the Main Clip, track 2 your new added (superimposed) clip. Click track 2, then click visual settings. From the Scaled Size pop-op menu, choose percent. Then type 50 into the first box. If Preserve Aspect Ratio is turned on you won't need to type 50 into the second box. You have made the pasted footage appear at one quarter its original size. The inset is now hugging the top-left corner of the Main Clip. If you want, you can type numbers into the Offset Boxes to shove it away from that corner (there are 72 pixels to the inch).
If your original Main Clip was required in 16:9, unclick (de-select) Preserve Aspect Ratio, and type in 1920 in the first box, and 1080 in the second, in Video Track 1. This will not affect video track 2, but if that is also wanred in 16:9 repeat for that track.
You can superimpose, 3, 4, or more such 'overlaps' on the same clip, and spend a happy afternoon tapping away for each track in the Offset Boxes until you have got them all in the right place! You can even overlap them, if you can remember (or note down - hire a secretary to take notes) which track you want on top etc.
Save the completed QT file. Import the completed file into a new iMovie project. Import this into the original iMovie project, substituting the old clip you copied to QT as Main Clip for the new fancy clip you have made.
    Have fun!

  • Can't hear live track when playing midi drum track

This is a really dumb question. I've been away from Logic too long. I'm trying to monitor a live guitar track while I play a recorded midi drum beat. I can hear the midi track fine. And I can hear the live guitar track when the midi track is not playing. But as soon as I start playback, the live track goes silent even though the red record enable button is on and the levels show live guitar signal. It just doesn't make it to the output. If I actually record a region, I can hear it. But I don't want to record, I just want to practice with effects and a drum track.
I've done this before. What have I forgotten?

  • Songs show as okay but become corrupted when played on iTunes?

I'm working with my 64gb iPod Touch 5th Generation.
My family has been known to have problems with computers and therefore iTunes so we decided to take action about a year ago. When we would decide to upload a CD to iTunes, we would download it on the hard drive of our computer then drag it on to a flash drive then if we had to transfer our iTunes to another computer we wouldn't have to download that CD again; we could just put in the flash drive and just 'Add File to Library'. Yesterday, I put some more CDs on the flash drives and today I sat down at 11:00 expecting to be done adding them to the library by one including a lunch break. I was there until four.
I had to wait for almost all of the music files to convert to the correct file format so that took a lot of time. My original plan was to add every song on the flash drives then go back through each artist and delete the corrupted songs (the ones with the exclamation mark [!]) and the duplicates. As I went through after I finished adding them all, I realized that songs that were problem-free last time were now corrupted. Another thing that I noticed which stressed me out the most was the fact that even when a song did not have an exclamation mark, it could still be corrupted. I found that out when trying to play a song and it (the exclamation mark) just popped up next to it with the usual 'Find the location of the track' message. I then realized that I would have to 'play' (double-click) EVERY. SINGLE. SONG. If I wanted to get rid of every unneccessary song. I had 2300 songs and the length of that project just drew the line for me. I figured I would come one here and try to find a solution but I couldn't find a discussion with the same problem.
So here is my official question: How do I prevent the not-corrupted songs from getting corrupted?
Please note that the songs that actually transferred when I sync'd it were a mix of every song I had purchased, some songs that had survived from the last sync, and some new songs from the flash drives.
I am working with Windows XP.
Thank you in advance for the ideas and if at all possible, I would love to avoid having to restart my iPod. My iTunes is 11.0.1.12.

  • My iPod does not show all tracks when browsing by artist!

I have recently noticed how by iPod isnt showing all the songs when browsing by artist. I have only discovered this problem with one of my artist, but am not sure that the problem occurs elsewhere. The thing is that i have got around 20 tracks performed by this one artist. About 10 of these tracks are from the same album and the rest of the tracks are without album information. So everytime i enter this artist on my iPod, only the tracks from this album is shown. Hence, the tracks without any album details are not to be found under this artist! However, these songs can stil be found when browsing by genre, songs or the like. So obviously they are all on my iPod, but for some reason only the tracks from the mentioned album are to be found when entering the artist.
What can the problem be and how can it be fixed?
    Thanks for your help,
    Best regards...

There are usually two things that contribute to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song has no album name associated with it or 2) the song is marked as part of a compilation.
If tracks are missing an Album name in the Info tab, this information needs to be filled in. The no album one is a bit quirky as the songs will appear under certain circumstances but the simplest remedy is just add None or Miscellaneous to all the blanks in place of a title. See this link for more detail: I don't see some of my songs when browsing by artist on my iPod
Also if the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation, they may not appear under Artist on the iPod. Highlight a song in iTunes that you know is not appearing correctly on your iPod. Right click on it and choose Get Info and click the Info tab (alternatively choose Get Info from the File menu), if "Part of a Compilation" is marked untick it and afterwards update your iPod, you should find it now appears as normal. Compilations are stored in a separate folder in iTunes so the songs don't appear inside the normal Artist>Album folder.

  • I just bought a new album in itunes and accidently deleted the first track. when i go to redownload it from my cloud or purchases it tells me that the item cant be redownloaded on this device for 90 days?

i have two itunes accounts but i only use one to buy music. while on the account that i use for music, i bought a new album last night. i bought the album with my 5th gen ipod. after the album was done downloading i accidently side swiped over the first track and deleted it. when i went back to redownload the track the message "this computer is already associated with an apple id. you can download past purchases on this computer with just one apple id every 90 days. this computer can be used with a different apple id in 81 days." i do not understand why i cant redownload something i just purchased. please help.

Unfrotunately, this sounds like a dead TC.
    - also, the picture does NOT pick up the 2 airport expressess in the house that I used to extend the wirelass network on the previous TC
    - there is no option to extend the wireless network
You need to reconfigure the Expresses to rejoin the TC's network via a factory reset.

  • I have an iTunes account. My iTunes on my computer shows about 100 songs. However, when I click on about 1/3 of the songs, they will play for about 15 seconds and quit. Anyone know what is going on?

I have an iTunes account along with an older iPod and a new iPhone. My iTunes account shows about 50 songs on it. When I try to play about half of the songs, they play for 15 seconds and then it quits and goes on to the next song. Anybody have any ideas?

    Hey everyone in Apple world!
I figured out how to fix the flashing yellow screen problem that I've been having on my MBP!  Yessssss!!!
I found this super handy website with the golden answer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
I followed the instructions on this page and here's what I did:
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
I went through the 6 steps above twice, just to make sure I got rid of whatever stuff was holding up my bootup process.  Since I did that, my MBP boots up just like normal.  No flashing yellow screen anymore!!
(Note that I arrived at this solution when I first saw this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570?viewlocale=en_US)
Let me know if this works for you!

  • Gaps within itune album tracks when played on ipod

I seem to get the between track break a few seconds into each new track on an album downloaded from itunes - so will crossfade from last to next track without a break then a few seconds into the new track a 1 second silence then continues. Same album plays fine in itunes. Imported CD's play fine both in itunes and on he ipod. Have tried a mixture of crossfade settings without effect. Any clues?
    Dell 8600   Windows XP

Thx Gary, tried your suggestion - now have 1 file, alas still with a 1 second break a few seconds into each new track.
    Hello krikit,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Unfortunately, the songs you download from ITMS will
always have gaps, because they are also sold
individually. Playing in iTunes, you probably don't
notice the gaps, but it is more noticeable so in the
iPod, because the iPod has to load the song into
    memory cache before playing.
One thing you can try is select those songs and burn
a CD. Then, when importing back into iTunes, select
all the songs on the CD and, in the Advanced menu,
    select Join CD Tracks.

  • I purchased two more tones but not on my phone. when I opened my phone in itunes on computer they show under tones but they won't play. they are faded gray with a dotted circle next to them. How do I get them to be black like my other tones and play

    I also have 3
songs that are faded gray to that won't play

I downloaded one of the file explorer programs (iFunbox in my case) for my PC and deleted everything out of the "Purchases" folder on the phone's "Raw File System". After a couple of syncs with iTunes everything was back to normal. It appears that something was screwed up on the iPhone side that iTunes couldn't sort out. I don't think anything could sync from iTunes to the phone, not just the greyed out items.
This is why resetting and restoring the iPhone also works for a lot of people. It's overkill though, deletes your app data, and just wastes your time setting everything back up after the restore. Better to use the surgical approach of a file system explorer program on your PC to fix what appears to be a mundane data corruption issue.

  • Any new playlists created in iTunes will no longer show up in the music tab when i select my iPhone or iPad in the browser on the left

i've reinstalled iTunes already, i am running OS Lion & a 1 year old 27" iMac.  everything has the most current software installed.

Try Andrei Cerbu's post here or see TS1538: iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows, in particular section 5, forcing a driver update.

  • Poor Audio in iTunes on XP Pro - echoing like track is playing double

When I installed iTunes on my XP Pro laptop, so I could sync with iPod, it worked fine. After subscribing to a PodCast outside of the Apple Music Store, the audio playback is now unacceptable. Music and voice are understandable but very difficult to listen to because it echos. The mp3 files exported to the iPod play fine on the iPod, but not inside of iTunes.
Any idea how to fix this problem?

Good idea Jim, but I get this echoing whether I am downloading or playing anything currently in the library. But I think you have the sound down right. There is some sort of feedback loop going on, but I have no idea what to reconfigure to make it go away.
Greg... you're in a playback loop. It happens when
you're playing a file that's being downloaded. First
time I've ever heard of it happening with iTunes.
Easiest way to fix this is to quit the program, and
reopen it. It used to happen a lot with internet
radio, but I haven't heard of it happening in
    awhile.
Second easiest way to fix it is to wait until it's
    done downloading before playing it.
    anyway.. hope this helps.

  • Itunes 7.0.1.8 destructs track when converting

Hi. When converting AAC format to MP3, my Itunes 7.0.1.8 doesnt fully convert the song. It just converts a few seconds and thats it. I've tried re-converting it but to no avail. Any advice?
    ranteo

When converting/importing files from hard disk or CD, windows crashes bringing up the infamous blue screen.
what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
if the blue screen mentions a specific file, let us know what that is called too. (exact spelling, please.)
here's a reference on the sorts of things i'm asking about:
    Troubleshooting Windows Stop Messages
if you're just seeing a "flash" of a blue screen, we can use this technique to make hidden blue screens appear for us:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.
