ITunes 6.0.3.5: Rips CDs then loses the tracks...

iTunes is working fine on my computer with my iPod but my fiancee's machine will rip a CD, file away the music and never add it to her library to be listened to in any fashion. These songs are accessible on disk and can be listened to in anything but iTunes.
She's using Musicmatch to rip her music and then manually adding the ripped tracks but that's a big pain compared to how it's supposed to be. This process doesn't work for the iTunes ripped tracks however, it simply refuses to add them no matter what she does to them manually.
Help?!?

hiya!
I hada virus named Quizoogle or something... but deleted that so doubt that thats the problem
was that the Qoologic/Qoolaid adware? an infestation of that is consistent with neither itunes nor QT opening (and getting no error messages whatsoever when they refuse to open).
what did you use to get rid of it? (it can sometimes be a beast to remove fully from Win 2000 boxes.)

  • My ipod touch will not charge or register in itunes.  It keeps turning off and then showing the apple logo?

My ipod touch will not charge or register in itunes.  It keeps turning off and then shows the apple logo.  I have tried holding down the button and plugging it in.  It will show the red battery for a second and then turn off?  Any other suggestions?

I have checked for problems with the connections, but from what i can see with the naked eye, nothing appears abnormal. It is very strange, and very sudden. It just stopped in the middle of a charge. The apple store is my next step. I just wanted to see if anyone on here had some extremely eye-opening solution or check. thanks though!
I'm also within warranty, so it's not a huge problem.

  • I want to sync my iPod Touch to my new computer. I've added a lot of music to my computer iTunes and don't know if I will lose the music on my computer or my iPod when I sync? I would like to keep it all from both.

I want to sync my iPod Touch to my new computer. I've added a lot of music to my computer iTunes and don't know if I will lose the music on my computer or my iPod when I sync. What do I do to keep all from both devices?

You can only sync with one computer  To switch computers and not lose anything:

  • ITunes no longer registers or rips CDs

I've exhausted the information that is provided in the iTunes help area for figuring this out.
iTunes ran the CD/DVD drive diagnostics, where it said everything was fine, and in which it showed that it SEES the drive, but despite that it won't access any CDs IN the drive to play or rip from them.
So I tried the old standby: rebooting.
And after that, the FIRST CD that I entered into the drive resulted in iTunes changing from its default grey to a white skin, then back. So for the very first CD it registers that a CD exists, tho it never shows up in the player window. Then the drive is ignored for anything but diagnostic tests after that (i.e. the skin-color-change doesn't repeat with any newly-inserted CDs).
Here in the forum I found others asking the same thing. One suggestion was to see if the CD would rip in another program, so I tried. It rips just fine in Windows Media Player.
So it is definitely a problem with iTunes.
    Possibly relevant:
I recently had to reformat the iPod ('restore factory settings') since - after I changed computers from one with Win2K on it to Win7 the new install didn't recognize the info properly from the old files. (The iPod was showing the wrong (or no) album art for the tunes I've had for years. I figured it was keeping old reference points from the W2K iTunes install, even though the new one was using new reference codes... so: 'restore factory settings'.)
I know that I ripped a couple CDs in iTunes before that happened with the iPod, and they were OK (i.e. iTunes recognized the drive and ripped from it without effort). So I'm wondering if possibly the iTunes program got corrupted in the process of fixing the iPod? If so, how can I fix that?
Or are there other ideas if that is unlikely/impossible?
    Thank you!

As I stated in my last post, reinstalling the program made no change to its lack of functioning.
Is there anyone who will actually will read what I wrote, and actually try to help me fix this, who can help? Thank you!
    And if ed2345 reads this:
It is a shame people can't lose points for responses given here. ed2345, the response you gave clearly showed you did not read or pay attention to the relevant information given in my first post. The link you supplied only led to information I had already discussed and covered in that original post.
And then you said, "If those suggestions don't help, and you get tired of messing with it, put your WMP Rip setting on MP3, rip the CD, and add the resulting MP3s to your iTunes library." Trying to fix a program that previously worked, and clearly has BECOME dysfunctional, in favor of doing something every few days for the duration of this new computer's lifetime is supposed to be preferable to finding a one-time fix? That is not helpful. Nor is that reasonable to ask for someone to do that with a program that is supposed to be useful, and worked fine up until a week ago.
Adding more frustration to this problem by giving less than useless 'help' makes trying to figure this out even more aggravating.

  • Itunes 7.6.1.9 - ripping cds using too much cpu!

When ripping new cds, itunes starts hogging the cpu like no tomorrow. it will get to 99% at times! I have a 1GB ram, and have NEVER had this problem with any other application or version of iTunes for that matter. I consistantly run multiple programs at the same time, such as Photoshop CS, Firefox and itunes all at the same time with not even 30% of the cpu being used. This is ridiculous.
In addition to basically fearing my machine will crash if i want to put a new cd on my computer, now songs hang up / skip randomly (including itunes purchases!) and this also NEVER happened before the upgrade.
    What is the deal?

Hey folks, there is a DEFINITE bug in version 7.6.029 which is causing a variety of problems, including massively slow time to rip CDs, and frequent hangs of iTunes. I just upgraded from 7.5 to 7.6.029 after ripping about 200 CDs relatively quickly using iTunes.... IMMEDIATELY after iTunes "auto upgraded" itself to 7.6.029, I started seeing massively slower times....rips that took 4 minutes previously now take over 20 minutes. I tried a variety of other suggested fixes (deleting video files, deleting podcasts, upgrading quicktime, etc).... not a bit of it helped.
Here is what DID fix the problem:
    1. I copied my already ripped music files to another disk for safety,
    2. then I deleted version 7.6.029 from my PC via add/delete programs.
    3.deleted quicktime via add/delete programs
    4.killed ituneshelper via task manager
    5. rebooted my pc,
    6. installed version 7.5.0.20 by using file I found at:http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iTunes7/Win/061-3 902.20071105.G6edS/iTunes75Setup.exe
    7. manually delete "iTunes Library.itl" in the ..My Documents/My Music/iTunes directory
    8. I then got the 'old' iTunes to come up by selecting "repair" on the iTunes restart
    9. I then did "file->add folder to library" on iTunes menu (pointing at the saved music files from step 1.) to re-import all my music. Of course, I logged onto iTunes beforehand with my AppleID so that iTunes would re-retrieve all the album art. I did NOT manually delete any files at any time in the except the iTunes Library.itl file in the ....->My Documents->My Music->iTunes folder.
That has completely fixed my problem. Disks are now back to being ripped in the 3 to 5 minute range...CPU usage is still as high as it was in 7.6, but iTunes no longer locks up, and the program is now properly managing my multispeed CD disk drive...operating it at 10x speed to rip discs (as opposed to 1.2 to 2x speeds under iTunes version 7.6)
So, sorry Apple, I won't be upgrading iTunes until I read that you have really fixed this problem...comments everywhere point out this performance bug, and I don't see any coherent response from you guys...just misplaced blame on disc drives, cpus, etc.....but the code is BAD... Hey, you didn't just outsource the iTunes coding effort did you? Sure looks like it.

  • ITunes unknown error -50 when ripping CDs

I have had trouble lately ripping CDs I have bought and get the message unknown error (-50)....

I just wanted to add that I have updated to iTunes 10, and this problem still exists.

  • My ripped CDs skip half the time cannot obtain a clean rip of albums

I am not sure what is going on but, I this is starting to happen a few too many times. I bought an album used off amazon, & ripped it into my itunes library, synced it to my ipod & the 2and to the last track skips & jumps all over the place, & I have error correction checked in itunes import options. So, thinking I got a bad disc, I return it to amazon & buy another new copy of it from ebay. When I get my 2and copy (it looked clean with no big scratches when looking at it with my eyes), I delete the 1st rip of the 1st skipping album from my itunes library. Then I re import or re rip the new 2and copy of the album into my itunes library. I do another ipod sync syncing the new good copy of the album. I play it on my ipod & the same 2and to last track is skipping like crazy again. I cant believe that 2 copies bought from 2 different sources of this same album can have a skip in the same place, unless there was a mass mistake in this album manufactured?
What is happening? I am tired of having to go back all the time to be sure I am getting a good rip of each of my albums. In addition, another recent album I just acquired (not the same one I am talking about in the above paragraph) also ripped into itunes with skips.Up until recently, I have not had very many if any problems like this until now.
And I do check to be sure the discs are clean & my disc drive is clean too.

  • How do I migrate my iphoto and itunes libraries to an external hard drive, then point the programs to read them from that location?

Hi, do you know how I can migrate my iphoto and itunes libraries from my over-filled laptop to an external hard drive then point the programs to read from that location instead? I'm trying to make some space available on this old computer

  • When iTunes pulls up a cd it doesn't display the track names

I have tried to import several different CDs and the track names are not displayed but about half the time. This particular cd was produced in 2008 and iTunes will display the cd title but that is it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It also needs to be able to access the Gracenote CDDB website to get the info, so maybe security software or your firewall is blocking that site.
Also proxy servers can mess it up.....a quick thing to do is check your internet settings. In Internet Explorer, go to Tools, Internet Options, Connections, Settings and make sure the box 'Use a proxy server for this connection' is unchecked.

  • ITunes not syncing to iPhone - Backed up & then synced the backup but....

I have the iPhone 3gs with the latest software on and also iTunes 10.
My phone has not been syncing with iTunes for some time now, I always had to sync it more than once for the new music to be on my phone. However it always showed under the iTunes tab of 'recently added'.
Whenever I put new music into the library or change apps I always backup my iPhone just so I know everything is saved and I've still got it. So yesterday I backed up my iPhone and then restored it, then restored iPhone from backup... However non of my apps are on the phone only the basic apple apps such as settings, safari etc.
I can't ring apple today as they are not open on a Sunday and I've looked through the apple help support sheets but theres nothing on there about if the backup failed. I did however today restore my phone from recovery mode but I still do not have any of the apps I purchased on my phone.
    Can someone help please?

    Welcome to the discussions,
app and other media, like songs for example, are not part of the backup, only app data and settings. More info about the content can be found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
But, unlike music, you can download apps again for free: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519

  • Edit a Contact in iPhone Sync Then lose the new data

Sync - What does it mean in regards to the iPhone?
I've edit some contacts in my iPhone then sync. After I check the iphone and the newly edited contacts are exactly what was in Entourage. I went back to redit them, change the date and still get the same results.
    Please help....

One thing that might help out.
If you create a new contact on the iphone, does it sync into ical or entourage.
If not, try resetting sync history using isync in your programs folder. (Sync history is in the isync preferences.)
    Then try syncing again.
Here is an article from the apple support website that might help out.

  • TS1398 I am begun to experience problems with my wi-fi connection on my home router.  All other devices in the house work fine - but my iPhone 3GS seems to connect to the route OK, then loses the connection,  I have tried re-boot/network settings etc - no

As per my headline comment, the wi-fi connection (which before IO6) worked fine now problematic, and iPhone in serious danger of flying out of the window..is there an option to get previous IOS back on the phone?  I have tried the various "solutions" indicated in the chat forum but nothing helps..any ideas before I lose what little hair I have left?

If, as you suggest, you have iOS 6.0.2 installed in your 3GS, you shouldn't have. That OS is only for the iPhone 5 and Mini iPad.
Try rebooting the router. Any other devices working happily on it are irrelevent.
