ITunes 6.0.4 (3) random mp3/aac skipping

I recently upgraded to 6.0.4 (3), which was apparently a huge mistake. I listen to my music quite often, and recently (since the update), iTunes has decided it wants to start skipping in random locations in the file. Some files always skip in the same location, some files stop after trying to play the file again, and some just simply work. These are all song that I have listened to before, so it isn't the file. The songs also play fine in QuickTime. Some songs also have what sounds like a scratched CD skipping around in the song. This is very frustrating and I want back my 6.0.3... I've tried rebuilding my library to see if that would fix it, but that was no luck either. Any ideas?

Assuming you are in a region where you are allowed to redownload your past purchases, delete the current copies from your iTunes library, go to the iTunes Store home page, click the Purchased link from the Quick Links section in the right-hand column, then select Music and Not on this computer. You should find download links for your tracks there.
If the problem persists, or that facility is not yet available in your region, contact the iTunes Store support staff through the report a problem links in your account history, or via Contact Support.

Amazon songs have never had DRM.  The iTunes Store sold DRM-encumbered tracks until mid-2009.  The iTunes Store now only sells songs in non-DRM "iTunes Plus" format, although new DRM tracks still show up occasionally in free playlists and in podcasts.
The old DRM-encumbered tracks cannot be converted to MP3.  You can upgrade them to iTunes Plus for 30 cents apiece (USA prices) or you can use iTunes to burn them to an audio CD, which can be used like any other audio CD.

  • MP3 -- AAC Conversion

I downloaded lectures to my Macbook in mp3 format but they won't play on my iTouch when I try to Sync it. They don't even show up on my iTouch!! Does anyone know how to convert mp3-->AAC on a macbook or in iTunes??? Or is there a way to help my iTouch recognize the lectures some other way?? Thanks!!!

iTunes and iPod can read MP3 format, you need to import the file to the iTunes first

  • ITunes re-points media to random files and locations

I'm having issues where every so often, iTunes will randomly re-point media to other locations on my network.     For example:
    Before - Show1.m4v points to /Volumes/mp3/iTunes%20Server/TV%20Shows/Series/Season%201/Show1.m4v
After - Show1.m4v randomly now points to /Volumes/media/mp3s/Artist/AlbumX/Song3.mp3
This happens on both my personal machine and a Mac Mini I have set up as a media server.    Mostly they are obvious because you look in iTunes and the cover art is missing.   The harder ones are when one show re-points to another in a series and you simply cannot see that its happened until you go to play the show and it starts to play some other random one.    (e.g. I want to watch Game of Thrones Season 4 episode 2, and it starts to play Breaking Bad season 1 show 5)
I have moved my iTunes library to a Synology NAS location on the network so it isn't local.  I understand there are some issues with this in the past.
My questions:  Is this normal?  Why does iTunes feel it needs to randomly re-point to media thats all over the place?    This isn't corruption, its almost like a virus or malware.
Is there an easy fix?  Because its actually pointing to an existing file, I can't click on the broken link and have it "re-find" the media file.     I could delete the target, but would have to fish for hundreds if not thousands of them.    If I rename the target directory, iTunes is smart enough to track the re-name so I can't fool it into thinking the file is missing.     I could completely delete it in iTunes and re-import, but it would create a second copy in the media folder filling up my disk.
In the case of music, I can simply delete all the local files and have iTunes match re-download... always fun with over 15k music files.
In the case of my media server, I have to fix it all manually.   This last go-around I'm looking at having to fix nearly 100 broken links for movies and TV shows.

I simply don't get the value of a locally attached drive
    An iTunes library that works?
About a movie/TV show match.  Legally speaking it is serves no purpose.  It is illegal in the USA and many other countries to rip DVDs.  Unless you are transferring original Petticoat Junction episodes from VHS tape you cannot legally be in possession of unprotected, matchable digital copies of a large amount of the media most people would likely wish to have available (at least I don't know of anybody who sells unprotected, digital, mass-market videos).  Yes, you can buy digital download versions but then many of those sources provide for re-download and or streaming (as does AppleTV) which negates the need for a Match service. I guess you could say, "Well Amazon [or somebody] sells digital videos, why doesn't Apple provide a Match service for those so I can stream to my AppleTV?"  I will let you think that one through and answer it yourself. On the other side of things, music can be legally ripped from CD so there's still a lot of that out there which the Match subscription serves.

  • Track type MP3 AAC etc

In my previos iTunes (5?) I could see what type of track I had eg MP3, AAC, etc. I now have iTunes 7.5 and the track type does not show. How can I get this facilitiy back, or is it another handy aide consigned to history?

Right click (ctrl-click) the headings in your Library - from the menu choose Kind, and position it where you want.

  • MP3, AAC Corruption

Lately on my 2G ipod many of my songs are being corrupted or crossed with other songs. Is this a sign that the Hard Drive is failing or did Tech Tools incorrectly repaired my ipod incorrectly? If it is failing is it because of a bad Hard Drive sector or something else? If there are any sites were I can replace my Hard Drive with a higher capacity 1.8" Toshiba tell me like a 40GB or a 60GB. I already know that if the ipod is repaired by a non-apple technician it voids the warranty, Apple warranty does not cover my ipod any more since it is about 3 years old.
If you are an Engineer please answer in a technical way, if not then me your opinium. (Sorry about the misspelling my keyboard is acting strange.)

From your description it sounds like you've imported the music from your CDs in Apple Lossless (which is ".mp4" just as AAC is. The file extension for both file types is going to be .m4a.). These files retain the full quality of the music on the CDs without throwing away any data (hence Lossless), but they can be very large files. As you have discovered. But never fear -- there is no reason for you to re-import anything. Since your files are in Lossless you can trans-code them to AAC or MP3 and it will be just like you imported them off the CD.
First, you want to sort your Library by Kind. Pull down Edit > View Options. Check Kind and click OK. In your Library click the Kind column to sort the tracks.
Now you want to make sure your Import settings are correct. Open iTunes Prefs > Advanced > Importing and select either AAC or MP3 if neither one is already selected. Click OK.
In your Library find all the files that are Apple Lossless files and highlight them by Shift+Clicking the first file then the last file. Now Right+Click the files and select the Convert Selection to XXX item in the contextual menu.
Depending on how many Lossless fles you have this may take a while. When the process if finished you can delete the Lossless files from your Library and Hard Drive is you want to, but it is not necessary. But deleting them will free up a large amount of space.
In the future you should be mindful of the forum you are posting in. This is the iTunes for Mac forum, and if your problem is specific to Windows you will get more effective help in the iTunes for Windows forums. But this is straightforward and works the same on both platforms.

(ios5 ipad bugs)I can't get changes of album art, artist, album and other tags to show up in the iPad music player, but they show up correctly in the iTunes device view. Certain random songs do not sync correctly.   Wifi sync hasn't worked yet.
I mostly use technology for education and professional audiovisuals and lights.
I don't sync  music because I use music from at least 4 different computers. (manually mange music)
I use my iPad to play performance tracks for church and a local gospel group out of our church, Won4Christ.
I chose to buy the iPad because the laptop of one of the group members (dellxps running iTunes) was randomly losing and mixing up music and I wanted a more stable option that was bigger than my iPod touch.
I tried to add some data to music libraries that I previously added to my iPad, but the data only shows up when looking at the device in iTunes.
Wifi sync has not worked on either my laptop or desktop ( both running windows 7 enterprise 64 and newest iTunes) not really a big issue, but very annoying
When browsing through library playlist albums on the iPad, random artwork shows up on playlists with no artwork that you touch while dragging, and it does not go away until you change to another navigation tab and back.
Random songs out of hundreds that I added showed up in iTunes grayed out with a sync circle beside them.  Those songs would play back okay on the iPad but were unplayable through the iTunes device view.  I had to delete the songs manually through the library along with the playlist and add them again.
These seem to be major stability bugs in the "new" music app and iTunes.  My only option right now seems to be to delete the songs that I want to change and re-add them with the changes already applied rather than changing the id3 tags and artwork on the existing music. I hope apple will release updates to resolve these issues.
Thank you for actually making it to the end of this manuscript of annoyances.

Just wondered if anyone had any other suggestions.

  • ITunes 10.6.3 not importing mp3 files but will play the mp3 files

    Hi
I recently updated my iTunes to v10.6.3 on my mac. However, I cant seem to add new music to my iTunes library. Dropping and dragging doesnt work even though the '+' curser appears and importing music using command + O doesnt work either. There is no indication of the music being analysed or anything.
However, when I click on an mp3 file it opens and plays in iTunes but will not be added to the library. If I click on the mp3 file again from finder, it will play in iTunes from the last point..
Does anyone have any ideas of wrong? Its frustrating me because I need to sync music to my iPhone and I cant
    Thanks

Ye playing the file should automatically add it to iTunes but its not since I updated iTunes.
The music plays and I can see the the time bar in the window on the top of iTunes but the file is not located in the iTunes library or anywhere in iTunes so I cant right click it.
At the moment the mp3 file is on my desktop. Normally dropping and dragging it into iTunes adds it into my 'iTunes' folder in the 'Music' folder.. but this is not happening. I've tried manually adding the file into the 'iTunes' folder using the appropriate folder titles etc.. but iTunes will not detect the new mp3's. Wierd!!
I think I might just have to re-install iTunes

My MacBook Pro 10.6.8 prompted me of a new itunes update this morning, so i downloaded it. Since then itunes has been starting up randomly on its own, and starts playing the first song on the list. I pause the song, and it resumes it on its own again. I'm not joking. So, I end up quiting out of itunes; but, it starts right back up again on its own. After quiting out of the app a few times, it eventually stops reopening; however, about an hour later (or less) it opens again. HOW DO I MAKE IT STOP? I'm just about to delete itunes, because I've had enough of this crap. I hope someone can help. I've restarted the laptop, and it seemed like that fixed it, then itunes started up doing the same thing again an hour later. ituneshelper is unchecked; bluetooth is off; i only have speakers and a mouse plugged in (also charger).

Read this Apple Discussion Thread and possible solutions. The audio jack has been the main culprit, also certain sync and automation settings including connected remotes.

  • ITunes cannot open files in the "MP3 Audio File" format

Lately I've been getting this error that iTunes can't open MP3 files. It happens when I try to double click on an MP3, however, if I click and drag the MP3 into my iTunes library it opens fine. Not a huge problem....just a nuisance.
    Running iTunes 10.0.1

I suddenly have this same problem with MacOS 10.6.7 and iTunes 10.2.2. Clicking on a tune in a folder gets the prompt "The document xxxx.mp3 could not be opened. iTunes cannot open files in the MP3 audio format."
Dragging the tune into iTunes will open it, so there's no problem with it being a "trouble file" that needs validating with some external app. I believe this is a new glitch that came with iTunes 10.2.2. It's workable but quite irritating when trying to manage an iTunes library that includes 28,000-plus songs.

  • Managing both Lossless and MP3/AAC versions of the same album

I've recently decided to keep a lossless version of some albums along with their mp3/aac counterparts. I would want to use the lossless version on my Apple TV to which I have a nice audio setup. I would use the mp3/aac version to go to my ipods (touch & nano). I was thinking of just keeping two playlists and selectively syncing to the appropriate device But will there be any collisions since the tags on the lossless and mp3/aac tracks will me the same (same album, same song, etc.) Do I have to modify any of these so they dont conflict? Thanks for your advice in advance!

Thanks for the info. But it looks kinda messy. And you have to have the ipods manually managed. I'm thinking it would be easier to change the album title to "title MP3" to distinguish it from the lossless copy instead of doing all this encoding work. I was hoping there would be a cleaner way to do it.

If they will play but will not convert, you probably have DRM "protected" files.  Were they purchased prior to mid-2009?
If so, and you don't want to burn, your choice is either to replace them, or to upgrade them by using Match.  For the latter option, see
iTunes Store: iTunes Plus Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
and look at the section on "Can I upgrade my previously purchased music to iTunes Plus?"

  • Converting purchased itunes files that are protected to MP3

Is there any way to convert a purchased song that is protected from a MP4 to a MP3? I am trying to create a DVD with music, but it does not support MP4 format.

Burn the purchased track(s) to Audio CD in iTunes then import them back as MP3.
