Itunes 6.0.4 (3) update - wont play music + no sound on other applications

Question

I have auto-update on and normally all the updates seem to be good... however I cant play any songs and therefore no sound from my speakers at all. All the music etc is there, press play and nothing... I had a look at Quicktime too and again no sound, I tried some of the home movies I have made on iMovie and no sound, same with Garage, no sound... The more I explore the worse it gets.
I see that others have had issues with this update. Other than trying to ininstall and go back to an earlier version which seems complicated has anyone else experienced these issues with particularly itunes not working and there being no sound?

it says under Output "No output devices found", is that right?
No, that's definitely not right. It should recognize your built-in Audio.
Your internal speakers are obviously not recognized by Mac OS.
If at startup you hear the tone, the hardware does work.
I don't know a solution however.
You could post a question in one of the iMac G5 forums or one or one of the Tiger forums (click on the blue text links to go there).
Before you do that, you might want to check if System Profiler recognizes the hardware. It will give posters trying to answer your question some additional information.
The easiest way to launch SP is to go to the -menu and choose 'About this Mac'. Then click 'More Info...'.
Expand 'Hardware' by clicking on the little triangle and select 'Audio (built-in)'.
On the right all information about the audio hardware should appear.
You could of course also post your findings in this topic. Others, reading this topic might help you solve the problem, but my guess is, that posting in one of the iMac or Tiger forums is more appropriate.
There are several very knowledgeable people answering questions in those forums.
