ITunes 6.0.4 in Tiger 10.4.11 won't open

(I also posted this in the iTunes section, but I'm getting no response there.)
I recently began using a G5 iMac with 10.4. Today I tried to open iTunes 6.0.4 for the first time and after the user agreement page I get an alert with no text and and "okay" button. I click okay and the alert goes away, but iTunes does not open. I would like to download the latest version, but in the system requirements, it says I need broadband, which I don't have. Is broadband really necessary? Or is there an earlier version somewhere that doesn't require broadband that I can download? (I was unable to find an earlier version on the Apple site.) Or does anyone have any other suggestions?

Hi Donna,
No, BB isn't required, but from one having dial-up also... a bit of insanity or a lot of patience will come in handy!
I'm thinking 6.0.4 should run, I have 6.0.5 on my 10.4.11 and it runs.
I think you only really need a later version for buying/playing Movies & suff online... not like we're doing that though.
Did you Repair Permissions & reboot?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

I have the same problem with the store. I click the link, and it looks like the store is loading. However, all I get is a white screen.
Also, my new Iphone 4s will only get to "step 2 of 5, backing up iphone." I left the phone connected to the computer all night, and when I woke up, it was still at the same spot, with no progress made.
I've uninstalled, everything from apple, rebooted the computer, and then re-installed the latest itunes. Still nothing.

I am trying to use airplay with my apple tv. I updated both this morning and now itunes crashes as soon as it opens. Is anyone else experiencing this?

You could unplug your router than plug it back in. You could turn the iPhone completely off and then back on.

Yes, I know King-Penguin....I'm just so frustrated and in a panic, that I was hoping the itunes geeks that sent out this falilure of an update would still see it, and feel bad. And maybe even send out a quick link fix it botton. Guess that's just a newbie way of thinking!

Itunes has encountered a problem....(won't open)

Itunes will not open. It comes up with the message "Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close" every single time. I've tried the following:
1. uninstalled it
2. reinstalled it about 150 x
3. downloaded new versions of Macromedia.
4. gone to the registry to make sure all itunes is deleted when I uninstall
5. Contacted computer help at my college.
PLEASE HELP!!!
On a side note itunes problems started to occur when I used a friend's shuffle on my computer. Since then the shuffle as also stopped working and has been replaced. There is no Ishuffle software on my computer any more and I have not tried plugging in the shuffle since ths problem has occurred.

iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
the first thing i check for with one of those error messages is a broken quicktime. does your Quicktime currently launch, or does it give you an error message?
if it gives you an error message, first try the following technique:
iTunes 6 for Windows unexpectedly quits when opened
(also switch off your antivirus and antispyware prior to the uninstall and prior to the repair install.)

I just downloaded itunes 10.3.1 on developer preview and it won't open. How can I fix this?

I updated itunes and now when ever I try to open it a problem report opens. Any ideas on how i can fix this problem? Its on 10.7

Itunes won't open - get message that .itl file cannot be found or created

My HP laptop with windows just crashed, and I'm trying to get everything back to working order. I reloaded itunes and it seemed to be working fine. Then at some point, I went to open it and received the messsage:
The itunes library .itl file cannot be found or created. The default location for this file is in the "itunes" folder in the "Music" folder.
I uninstalled and reinstalled itunes several times, to no avail. The program won't open and I continue to get the same error message.

Check the permissions in that folder and make sure you have full read/WRITE privileges.

HT1925 I have tried everything here and iTunes still won't open.I now get the message, The file "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes.

Recently I have not been able to open iTunes,I tried removing and reinstalling it but still won't open. I now get the message The file "iTunes Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes. Any suggestions on how to get iTunes to work again ?

Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

ITunes Win7 64-bit won't open older library

Updated iTunes on Win7, 64-bit laptop and it now won't open ... posts an error message of "can't open library file created with older version". I performed the upgrade on my XP-Pro 32-bit laptop with no issues, and a clean upgrade/update of my iPhone. Can't get it to work on the Win7 64-bit machine and, yes, I did indeed download the correct version of iTunes for Win7, 64-bit. I'm thinking the older version on the Win7 machine was not kept up and got too old to upgrade ... is that a possibility?

Just tried this after itunes crashed consistently - wouldn't open.
NOW I can sign the license agreement but get the message : "The iTunes library .itl file cannot be found or created. The default locatioin for this file is in the iTunes folder in the Music folder.
I can do a search for the most recently saved .itl iTunes library (from 10/18, sigh). But I can't figure out where to put that once I find it.

Itunes won't open since tiger installation

Installed Tiger 10.4.6 disc yesterday
opened itunes and it said I needed 10.4.11
updated to 10.4.11
now itunes (7.6) will not start and does not give an error message at all
Have tried,
-opening from another user: no luck
-deleting com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist, com.apple.iTunes.plist from preferences: no luck
-deleting and reinstalling itunes 7.7. Install process will not start either
-deleting quicktime and er-installing. Quicktime install process will not start
-repair disk permissions...repaired a bunch of permissions, itunes won't start still

Try launching iTunes directly from your Applications folder. If that works, quit iTunes, drag the iTunes Dock item to the Trash, and then replace it by dragging iTunes from your Applications folder to the Dock.
