ITunes 6.0.5 Upgrade Recognizes ipod as "disk"

S.O.S.
After a successful upgrade to itunes 6.0.5, itunes now recognizes my ipod as "disk" with all my files missing. If I unplug my ipod from my computer, all the files are present and playable. I've tried updating ipod firmware, uninstalling/reinstalling itunes... I even tried installing itunes from the CD that was shipped with my ipod, but no dice.
If I plug my ipod into my friends computer, it works fine. If I plug my friends ipod into my computer, it turns up as a disk.
We're both running Windows XP.
Anybody have the same problems?

  • ITunes and Windows will not recognize iPod Nano 3rd Generation

I've been on this ALL day. Neither Windows or iTunes will recognize iPod. I have uninstalled and re-installed iTunes.... I don't know how many times.
iPod is new. Was ok to sync music and photos last week.. but now nothing. Any ideas anybody... this is driving me nuts.
When plugging in iPod - it beeps and then right away says it is ok to disconnect and beeps again... and iPod goes on... and then charges up.
I was skeptical in buying an iPod for the kids... and now am disappointed. Please somebody... change my mind!!!!

I've been having a similar issue with my iPod. My iPod will not play songs. Basically, the song or podcast will appear on screen, but is stuck at 0:00 and will not play.
When I connected my iPod to my computer, it was not recognized by iTunes and it did not appear in My Computer. I checked the Windows Device Manager, and the device did appear there. Strangely enough, the device did appear in My Computer as a removable disk only after I closed out Device Manager. I'm wondering if I need to restore my iPod. How do I do so without iTunes?

I've also uninstalled and reinstalled itunes

    Hi rickthegolfer123,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I know it can be frustrating when your iPhone is not recognized in iTunes. There are some good troubleshooting steps however to help you get this resolved. The steps may be different depending if you are using an Apple computer or a Windows computer so I will include both articles.

  • Itunes for mac won't recognize ipod but iTunes on parallels will

Just upgraded itunes to 10.5 and purchased a new ipod classic (160gb). All my music is on my old macbook, but itunes won't recognize that the ipod is attached. Finder will, but iTunes won't. However, when I run iTunes in parallels desktop on the same mac, it recognizes the iPod and asks to sync. How do I get the mac itunes to recognize the ipod?

Sorry for the late response. I realised my notifications are off. I've tried that. All my software is up to date, setting for wifi sync are all checked off. I spent 1 hour on the phone with Apple with no results. Most threads are about Windows PC. I run a a MacBook. Variables could be my Linksys router but i/ve played with the firewall settings and nothing. I have a range extender but all devices are using the same network. Any final ideas?

  • Reinstalled Itunes for Windows will not recognize ipod touch 3rd generation.

Itunes for Windows and PC will not recognize my ipod touch 3rd generation.  Also it will not fully charge using a brand new apple brand power adapter and cable. I have already uninstalled all Apple software on PC and reinstalled.  I've tried every step suggested by Apple online iPod touch Troubleshooting Assistant.

the best thing i think you could do is go to an apple store or uninstall itunes and reinstall it one more time and see what happens

  • Itunes 8.0 will not recognize ipod on new computer

Got a new computer and downloaded itunes 8.0 and itunes will not recognize my ipod classic. I was able to transfer old songs from old computer to the new one.

OK, that just changed where future music will be added.
You need to go back to the old PC and get the ITL file. Put it either on the new PC or the exHD. Press *and hold* the shift key while starting itunes and it should "see" all the music on your ex HD.

  • Itunes and computer does not recognize Ipod USB connection

First off, I know this has been discussed over and over, but I am not getting any difinative answers so, I will start a new post. I have a Ipod mini and have had it for some time without any problems. Recently I added new music to Itunes and wanted to transfer it to my Ipod, but when I connect the USB cable it does will light up the screen to let me know that it has been connected, but it will not update the ipod and itunes will not recognize it and only a few times has it even charged the battery. I have tried to update itunes, update ipod (which didn't do any good since it is not being recognized), restored my ipod with play/menu, tried different usb outlets, and today I am going to get my sister's cable and try it. What am I doing wrong?!?!?!? I am going crazy about this. Thanks for any other suggestions.

Finally, I got it to work again. This is what I did. I doubt this is what changed anything but I reset all of my settings back to factory settings on the Ipod as far as backlight, shuffle, ect. I don't think this is what helped, but who knows with these things. Then I plugged it into the computer and it did show that it was charging (usually it did not even recognize enough to charge). Then I tried a different USB cable from my sister's Ipod and the first thing it did was ask to update Ipod and I did (I had to to plug it in to the wall to complete update) then I plugged it back in my computer and it finally worked! My husband thought I was an idiot because I was cheering every time it recognized something until I was basically jumping up and down when everything was updated. For now everything is back to normal so I love my Ipod again. Although my sister will get my old USB cable back seeing that she dropped her Ipod in water and hers does not work at all. Which reminds me to start another post about that. Thanks for all the support.

  • ITunes 9.2 doesn't recognize iPod, iPad, or iPhone

I can't get iTunes to recognize my iPod, iPhone, or iPad in my current user. When I log on to my same computer as another user, iTunes will find them when I connect. I have reinstalled all apple products as noted, along with disabling all of my services to find hardware conflicts to no avail. Any suggestions?

  • ITunes freezes and doesn't recognize iPod Touch

Let me start by saying that I finally know what the problem is, I just don't know how to fix it
About a 2-3 weeks ago, when connecting my iTouch (1st gen) to sync with iTunes it would freeze the app (but all other windows and programs worked fine).  You could hear Windows "recognize" the device and if you left it attached, after about 3 minutes iTunes would then start responding again.  However my iTouch wouldn't show up.  It was recognized in device manager with no errors, just not showing in iTunes.  I could attach it to my Netbook or any other PC I had and it would be recognized and work perfectly, just not with my main system.
After spending hours online trying to find a solution and going through the normal stuff (i.e. Re-install of iTunes, update of drivers, reset iTouch to defaults etc.) I finally came to the conclusion that perhaps it was possible that something was just amiss with that particular PC.  Since it had been awhile anyway, I decided to just wipe and reload Windows just to ensure everything was working correctly.
To my surprise, the exact same issue returned! At this point I knew it had to be some type of issue or conflict with another piece of software I had installed.  So once again I formatted and began a reload of my system, only this time I noted and tested at each step of the re-install (installation of Windows updates, drivers and software).  I finally found what was causing the issue!  And the culprit is........(drumroll please).........
    Microsoft Security Essentials
No way you say!  Yes way and I proved it....
By stepping through the re-install process and testing iTunes after every change, it stopped working and gave me the same issue listed above right after I installed Microsoft Security Essentials.  Just to put my mind at ease, I uninstalled Microsoft Security Essentials, and immediately the issue went away and iTunes was able to see my iTouch again.
At this point, I'm not sure if it's a iTunes or a Microsoft Security Essentials issue, so I'm posting this in both forums.
    System:
    Win7 Ultimate x64 SP1
    i7 920
    12GB RAM
    128GB Corsair SSD
    Asus P6T Deluxe
    eVGA GeForce 465SC
iTunes & Microsoft Security Essentials (latest versions)
Anybody have an idea of how to resovle this (other than the obvious one of removing Microsoft Security Essentials)?  I actually like Microsoft Security Essentials as my AV client so I'd like to find an answer that allows me to continue using it.
Thanks in advance for any help,
    Mike

Hmm....I just had another thought.  All the machines are running Win7 SP1, BUT the 2 that can sync with MSE installed are 32bit versions, however the one that can't is 64bit.  Not sure if that makes any difference though.  All are clean installs with Win7SP1 media, not SP1 installed later.

  • ITunes on xp no longer recognizes iPod

When I plug my ipod into my computer (either in the dock or directly) the ipod makes a "bip bip bip" sound, then does nothing. The ipod is charging, but never shows up in iTunes. I've been as far as I can through the "five Rs" (can't restore since the ipod doesn't show up in itunes).
There was a recommendation about changing a setting on the iPod services, but mine was already set that way.
With all the postings about various problems with iTunes 7, is Apple planning to update iTunes and solve the problem? Should I try to go back to iTunes 6?

  • Itunes 11.4 doesn't recognize ipod classic

I have been syncing my ipod classic to itunes for years but today itunes doesn't see my device.  i have the latest itunes version (11.4) running on a macbook pro with the OSX 10.9.4

    Hello there, nickmurton.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great steps for troubleshooting the issue you're describing:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for OS X
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591
Follow these steps to resolve your issue:
If you haven't connected your iOS device to this computer before, unlock the device and tap Trust. Learn more about the Trust This Computer alert.
    Restart your iOS device.
    Restart your Mac.
Make sure that your Mac meets the minimum system requirements for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
Install software updates on your Mac.
If an iTunes update is available, apply the update.
Check USB connections. iOS devices need USB 2.0 to work properly. If you're not sure your Mac has USB 2.0 ports, check the computer's specifications.
Disconnect other USB devices and connect your device directly to a USB port on your Mac.
    Try another USB cable.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • ITunes can't connect with iTunes Store & Computer doesn't recognize iPod

When I put my iPod in the USB-port, it is recognized by my desktop for a short time as "Lucas's iPod", then, after like 20 seconds it turns to removable drive en than it just dissappears out of My Computer, so iTunes says it can't sync it because it can't find the drive (= the iPod). I searched for solutions, tried the 5 R's several times, nothing works and I'm desparate. I tried to Authorize my Computer in the Store menu in iTunes, by clicking Store > Authorize Computer > Fill in Apple ID and password. I did that, but when I clicked Give Authorization, it says (In Dutch, I tried to translate it as well as I can): iTunes cannot connect with the iTunes Store. The networkconnection has been refused. Check if the networksettings are right and if the networkconnection is active. Then, try again.
I don't know what is meant with my "wrong networkconnection". My internet works beautifully, I can use everything, but only iTunes won't work. Why is the networkconnection being refused? I'm getting crazy because I have my Ipod for almost 2 months and I didn't take it out of my house or even use it one time! Please, please, please help me!

honestly on a Windows I do not know how, there are programs that you can download that will tell you, and there are unix scripts that can tell you. to find out how, you might want to talk to somebody who owns a windows and is proficient in using it.

  • Itunes and computer will not recognize ipod

I am trying to connect and sync my ipod nano 7Gen and keep getting this message "An iPod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again. If the problem persists, uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again." I have done all of theseand also gone through all of the support steps to resolve with nothing.
    Does anyone have any suggestions??

    Hello Jenn,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your iPod nano being recognized in iTunes.  You have taken some really good troubleshooting steps.  I found an article with some additional steps you can take for the error message "An iPod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again."
I recommend reviewing the following article (you can skip any of the steps you have already taken):

  • Getting iTunes on new computer to recognize iPod

I just got a new Dell laptop - I had iTunes set up on my old laptop & synced regularly with my iPod. When I connect my iPod to the new computer & open iTunes it says that the iPod can only connect with one computer. How do I get "switched over" to my new computer so I can sync my iPod? Also, do I have to do the same thing for my iPhone, since I used to sync that with my old computer?
