ITunes 6.0.5 & ZoneAlarm firewall conflicts??

I'm using windows XP Pro SP2, with ZoneAlarm 6.5.722.
Just upgraded from iTunes 4.(something) to 6.0.5.20. Now all of a sudden, I can't access the music store. When I shut down ZoneAlarm, it's fine. I tried deleting iTunes from the program list in ZoneAlarm, thinking that when I restarted iTunes it would re-regiser with ZA. That didn't happen, can't even manually add iTunes to the ZA program list now.
Anyone know what the deal is here?!

Just answered my own question - the problem is actually with ZoneAlarm and not with iTunes.
My ZoneAlarm (allowed programs) database became corrupted. Additional symptoms included my Norton AV LiveUpdate had been disabled for a while as well. ZoneAlarm was just blocking access from these programs (usually after installing an upgrade version of the application), and not giving any message or alerts when blocking it.
Here's the fix:
Delete the ZoneAlarm database by going to C:\WINDOWS\Internet Logs, and deleting (or renaming) IAMDB.RDB & BACKUP.RDB. You have to boot in safe mode to do this. Then restart normally, and when ZoneAlarm fires up again, you'll have to re-acknowledge all of the programs asking for internet access as if it were a fresh install of ZoneAlarm.

  • CS6 and 'ZoneAlarm firewall + antivirus' don't play well together

I downloaded CS6 and it worked fine, that is until I downloaded ZoneAlarm firewall + antivirus beta. What I do to make CS6 work is to get off the internet by disconecting my PC, turn off ZoneAlarm and then CS6 starts working again. I wonder if anyone has the same problem? And how to get around it. Thanks.

  • ZoneAlarm Firewall blocks iTunes - iPhone stability.

I spent HOURS with (very helpful) iPhone tech help trying to stabilize my iTunes, which I needed for my new iPhone, on my Vista PC. Sometimes iTunes would hang the PC, sometimes not recognize the iPhone, sometimes work, and then often after working would freeze iTunes, requiring a Re-Boot. I have a very clean PC - no virus issues - and FINALLY gained immediate success when I uninstalled ZONEALARM FREE FIREWALL and then used PC TOOLS FREE FIREWALL. That worked. I've tried to post this on ZoneAlarm Forum, but for some reason, can't get thru on that forum. Other Windows folks with similar problems might appreciate my posting here.

Does anyone have a solution to this that doesn't involve completely disabling ZoneAlarm? How to let iTunes through so it can work with the phone (ie. remote app, etc.)
    Thanks

  • When I try to download iTunes 10.5.3.3 it says "A program required for this install to complete could not be run...." I have uninstalled itunes, restarted my pc, disabled firewall and antivirus. HELP

I used to have iTunes 4.3.1, something like that, it kept asking me to upgrade but i had an older ipod so i couldnt. I recently broke my ipod so now i have one for itunes 10.5.3.3 because my ipod came shipped with ios5.0 installed. So i tried to update itunes, didnt work.  I uninstalled it, didnt work. I disabled firewall and antiviurs, didnt work. Ive called tech support, as soon as the person hung up thinking that it was working, it stopped working. I REALLY LOVE MUSIC and want songs on my new ipod. Please someone help....

First try removing and reinstalling all the Apple software using the following or the link within it that applies to XP.
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
Then try the other items in:

  • Leopard 10.5.3 and iTunes syncing with atv turn firewall off?

Ok so I just updated to Leopard, and with the firewall on, Itunes cannot communicate with my ATV. Itunes states that port 3689 is blocked and I have to allow communication with this port through my firewall. Now how can I set my firewall to accept communication on this port without me having to disable the firewall altogether like I am doing right now? I am very nervous right now. I tried adding iTunes to the apps selection of the firewall, did not work. Guess I need more info on Leopard firewall settings. But I cannot for the life of me find port settings anywhere?!?

Doh, and I was sooo hopeful that would work, I still get messages like this from my log
    Firewall[57]: Deny iTunes connecting from 10.0.1.197:63516 uid = 0 proto=6
    Nuts!
On another note, just found out how to fix that annoying help window ontop of everything in Loepard, type this into terminal.

trying to access Itunes store via Itunes.  I have followed all the support directions about cleaning out dns, updating windows and reloading itunes but none have worked.  the support site has directions on how to enable itunes using windows xp firewall but not for windows 7.  just thought this maybe a possibility.  I did run diagnostics in itunes and it is saying that the secure connection to itunes store failed.  when I click on help next to it - nothing comes up.  I have connection to the internet in all other sites.  just trying anything I can.

  • Itunes Keeps prompting to allow firewall connections on launch

I bought a new Mac Mini that shipped with Yosemite. Itunes is now prompting me every time it launches to allow it to access incoming connections via the OS X Firewall. I'm allowed it and allowed it. I'd also removed iTunes from the OS X file wall and I re-added it later. The app still prompts me. Over and over again.
    Anyone else seeing this issue?

Seems to be an old problem which had different solutions before Yosemite. I faced the same problem (OS X 10.10.3 Yosemite, Late 2014 Retina 5K iMac, iTunes 12.1.2.27) and solved it this way:
Go to Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences
    Delete the file com.apple.alf.plist
    Reboot the Mac.
Worked fine for me. Found this hint somewhere else.

    Good day AMELIASARAH,
One resolution to your issue would be to update your iPhone using iTunes on your computer rather than over the air. This requires much less space on the iPhone as most of the work is done by the computer. See this article for how to do it -

  • ITunes behind an ISA 2004 Firewall

Since upgrading to iTunes 6.0, I can no longer access the Music Store or any of the streaming radio stations. Installation went fine.
When attempting to go to Music Store, I get the following error: iTunes could not connect to the Music Store. "An unknown error occurred (502). Make sure your network connection is active and try again."
Seems that something has changed in the 6.0 release, thus causing me to have to reconfigure my ISA 2004 Enterprise firewall rules.
I currently allow the following outbound TCP ports:
    3689
    42000-42999
    8000-8999
    9022
What's changed, and does anyone else run ISA 2004 and iTunes successfully?
I understand that there may be some proxy settings in QT that get picked up and used by iTunes? Can anyone clairify?

    hi Ashley!
Only problem: I'm not using the Firewall Client -- I'm doing all access via the web proxy.
hmmm. i've seen some versions of this caused when servers on a network aren't exempting the following domains:
    phobos.apple.com
    phobos.apple.com.edgesuite.net
the following text is from a post by Robert Eckdale:
I wanted to share my experience with connectivity issues to the iTunes Music Store. I am including some background info in this post... so it's admittedly a bit long-winded.
Users on my network were receiving the following error when attempting to connect to the iTunes Music Store (IMS):
"We could not complete your Music Store Request. An unknown error occured (502).
There was an error in the Music Store. Please try again later."
At first it seemed likely this was an IMS service outage, and given that IMS isn't a business critical app, I set it aside for a couple of days. When the issue still existed 3 days later it became apparent this was likely related to our firewall security configuration.
I performed a packet capture on a workstation while iTunes attempted to connect to IMS. Sure enough the results indicated that the request was rejected by the firewall's HTTP filter.
The firewall/proxy being used is Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2004. (ISA 2004) One of the benefits of ISA is its advanced application-layer security. I won't get into the details, but if you want more info a good place to start would be http://www.microsoft.com/isaserver.
The next thing to determine was the specifics of the HTTP request and the cause for rejection. On the ISA server I setup a logging query that monitored live traffic from my test workstation for connections denied due to various HTTP filter values. The query indicated that the request was being denied because the HTTP traffic was encoded, thus not allowing the traffic to be inspected. Not sure why Apple is encoding HTTP traffic, but that’s another discussion.
So the solution: (It’s about time…right?) On the ISA server I created the following Domain Name Set:
    Name: iTunes Music Store
Domain names included in this set: *.phobos.apple.com and *.phobos.apple.com.edgesuite.net.
I then created an Access Rule with the following properties:
    Action: Allow
Protocols: HTTP (Disabled the Web Proxy application filter.)
Source: Workstations (This is just a group of IP’s used by our workstations)
Destination: iTunes Music Store (The Domain Name Set I created earlier)
I placed this new access rule “above” the default HTTP rule used by our workstations. This results in the new rule being processed first. So, if a workstation makes an HTTP request, the ISA server determines if its destination is to either of the domains used by IMS. If it is, the request is allowed and no application layer filtering is applied. If the destination of the request is not to either of the IMS domains, it is allowed but HTTP application layer filtering is applied.
There might be better ways to do this, but it seems like an acceptable solution. The security trade-off is that if there were an HTTP exploit used at either of those IMS domains my users would not be protected.
    Eckdale post ends

  • I have been trying to open the itunes store unsuccessfully.  I have uninstalled itunes and reinstalled.  My firewall is not blocking.  I'm at a loss about what I can do.

Please, I need help getting into the itunes store.  I've tried everything.  Even had a computer forensics expert take a look and he could not figure out the problem.

It worked for me, for iTunes Store and Safari both!
They were overloading my CPU heavily, esp with some background services. And all the web pages stayed blank. So, I've found this solution:

Once it opens, type in the following command:
    netsh winsock reset
    hit enter
    (then wait for some time)
You should get a message that the winsock reset successful and you will need to reboot your computer.
Reboot and when I reloaded itunes the store loaded fine.
