ITunes 6.0 burning error 2123

Has anyone figured out what error 2123 is all about? A few versions ago, I was able to burn some CDs but occasionally got the message "please insert a blank CD" when in fact, there was a blank CD in the drive. Now, with v.6, nothing; except "error 2123." Any revelations yet?

Adding my voice to the chorus as well.
I downloaded iTunes 6.0.1 yesterday afternoon and was quite pleased with it... until trying to burn a new playlist to a CD. Once the burn initialization started, error 2123 popped up and resulted in my disc being spat back out at me.
I've tried everything. I fired off an e-mail to Apple support yesterday afternoon... but judging from the comments of others on here, I really don't expect to receive assistance. Very, very frustrating.
If all else fails, I suppose it's best to remove iTunes 6.0.1 and reload iTunes 5.0.1 (didn't have any problems with this version).
Like everyone here, I'd really appreciate some feedback, should someone discover a solution on their own... or succeeds in receiving support from Apple.

  • CD Burning Error 2123

I downloaded Itunes 6 this morning and now I cannot burn any of my music. First it tells me that "the attempt to burn a disk failed. An unknown error occurred (2123)." I then unistalled and reinstalled the older version of Itunes and it tried to burn the CD but it then said it could because the computer wasn't authorized to play the musics. We tried to authorize it but it wouldn't work so I reinstalled Itunes 6 and still getting th exact same problem. I don't know what the problem is, I have done all of the troubleshooting on the apple website and don't know what to do.

worked for me. have not been able to burn since updating to 5.0.1... I can burn again thanks

  • Burning error #2123

Can anyone tell me why I was able to burn CD's before but cannot burn them now. I get an unknown error #2123

We are getting error #2122. It seems there is something wrong with the new version of iTunes. I update to the latest version and can no longer burn CDs. The older version on my other PC will burn fine, so it is something with iTunes. I've emailed Apple but have to wait for a response.

  • Burning disks - error 2123

Suddenly we are unable to burn CD's on itunes. We get error message 2123: the attempt to burn a disc faild. An unknown error occurred.
I spent hours trying different solutions suggested by HP (we have a compaq) and nothing works!
Is there a solution to this problem?
Already tried: recovery of computer to an earlier date
    and re-installing itunes
When I installed the RecordNow program and ran it I was able to burn a CD so there's nothing wrong with the burner but we want to be able to use Itunes the way we always did.
    help!

OK. I finally realized that these are "Burn folders" and can simply be thrown in the trash.
Through some troubleshooting, I think I discovered what may be a bug in the OS though. Apparently if you have folders within folders and the top folder has a colored label applied, then DVD burner doesn't recognize it as a folder anymore when you make your burn folder. I don't know why the CD buring software would get confused by a simple folder label. You'd think Apple would have caught this!
I removed the colored label from the top folder and now it burns the CD just fine.
I wonder if anyone else has run across this issue.

The 2131 usually indicates firmware needs to be updated on a drive.
Head to your drivers and downloads page for your latitude at Dell, and check for updates to your firmware for your optical drives. If you're behind and you update, does that clear up the 2131?

  • I can't burn a CD "Error 2123" always comes up!! HELP!!!!

I try to burn a disc and all it says is "The attempt to burn a disc failed. Error 2123." The website articles didn't help, and the phone lady didn't help (Apparently i'm only allowed 1 phone call.) so please help me!!!!!!!!!!

If you don't have Nero, check out http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9229334#9229334. I think some people have found a way to get just the Burn Rights program.
If that doesn't work, some people seem to have luck with editing the registry or messing with filters or gear drivers. Check out this discussion starting with Tytus (he came up with the Nero fix) on March 22:

  • ITunes CD Burn error (media too fast)??

I upgraded to the latest iTunes version and now Im getting errors when I try to burn a playlist. I havent burned a cd off this computer in a long time, so Im not sure if it's iTunes. However, the error, if I remember correctly, said iTunes is unable to burn the playlist because the requested speed is too fast for the burner or the media.
I tried slowing my burning speed to 8X, but it still gave me the error.
Any suggestions? Is it time for a new drive? If so, what are my options? I have the blue CRT (500mhz) iMac.
    Thanks

Since my original post, I have been able to burn a cd, but still most of the time get the error. Why would it work sometimes, and not other times?
Im guessing the drive is going. Can it be replaced? Are there upgrades available for the CRT iMacs ?

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

When connecting to Itunes, it shows the following error: registry settings used by itunes drivers for importing and burning cds are missing.
I have edited the registery, downloaded the Gear drivers, uninstalled and installed itunes, and the error still appears.
What else can I do.  Cannot connect any of our iphones or ipods to itunes because of this error.

    I have edited the registery,
We'd better have a closer look at the keys to see what's going on.
Can you post a screenshot of the contents of the key you've been editing, please? Include all of the regedit screen, including the left-hand column. Save the screenshot to an image file, and insert the image file in a reply by clicking the wee camera icon at the top of the reply window.

  • Backup iTunes library problem using LaCie DVD Burner error message - help!

    Hi!
I just purchased a LaCie D2 DVD +-RW DVD Burner for my Mac Mini running OS 10.4.8 and iTunes 7.0.2. I've installed the latest LaCie drivers and iTunes recognizes the burner so no problem there. When I try to back up my purchased playlist iTunes checks the media everythings fine but when it tries to start the burn process I get this error message: "The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (-8785)." It then ejects the DVD-R. The Burner works fine with Toast, so the issue is with iTunes. I've tried using both Apple DVD-R's and Sony brand just in case that was it. Any ideas? Please?
    Thank you,
    Sam

i recently got an error message while burning a dvd with lacie. i had been using the same cd's etc. found the solution on roxio boards (which don't allow just anybody to join obviously).
the problem is iSight. it can cause problems with the lacie while hooked up to the other firewire connection. unplugged the camera and viola!!! lacie works again.
    hope this helps you too!!!

  • Solved Error 2123

I followed the advice someone gave on the forum and got rid of the Error 2123 I used to get when burning a CD in iTunes. It seems like many people have this problem. Here is what I did (again someone whose alias I don't remember posted this somewhere, but his message kind of got lost among the many replies, etc. Here it is again)
Go to Control Panel / System / Hardware / Device Manager
Uninstall everything under CD / DVD Rom Drives
Uninstall everything under IDE / ATAPI Controllers
When you restart your computer the drivers will automatically reload.
This solved the problem for me. I no longer get the errors while burning CDs.

I followed someone else's advice and bought CD-R for music, burned perfectly! worked for me, may work for others.

Download and install the update labeled "Samsung SW-248F 48X CD-RW Firmware Update".
If that doesn't work, come back and we'll try something else.
