ITunes 6 Error Loading, Requires QuickTime 7.0.3

I installed iTunes 6.0 just fine with Quicktime and iTunes will not load. It says Error QuickTime 7.0.2 found, Requires QuickTime 7.0.3. So i open QuickTime, go to help menu and about, and it says QuickTime v7.0.3. What can i do? I reinstalled iTunes 5 in the meantime to keep listenin to my music.

well done, Bob!
try installing quicktime 7.0.3 from apples site, theres a link on the quicktime download page for a standalone quicktime package, download that. then uninstall quicktime and itunes from your computer, install the standalone quicktime 7.0.3 and then the itunes 6.0.0. Im up and running with iTunes 6 now and its pretty cool.
many thanks for the report! i've got you bookmarked for future reference.

  • ITunes 8 now requires Quicktime 7.5.5... Even without fixing all its bugs.

iTunes 8 now requires Quicktime 7.5+... What is that? Even without fixing all its bugs working with OS 10.4.11 and lower. Choppy video is still a problem on G5 machines, I have had to reinstall QT 7.4.5 to fix the problem twice now. (Thanks Pacifist) I wont try to install QT 7.5 again until Apple confirms that they have a problem and that it is assured us having a fixed solution, not just it being a little bit better. I know that the answer is get OS 10.5+ installed, but there are still programs and issues that don't work well within that system. If I had an Intel machine I would not worry as much. But why do these bold requirement statements like to rub in that my computer needs more money inserted after the upgrade instead a warning before hand? ,e

I am just talking about videos that I have shot with correct transfer codecs and imported into Apples' very own Final Cut Pro and just want to see correctly what I could see before smoothly in QT 7.4.5 and earlier. I have long given up QT for viewing anything .avi or .mp4 and use the preferred VLC software. However, QT and FCP are in bed together for obvious reasons. Let's face it... QT does not play everything, nor do I think they try to. No on can survive viewing with QT alone.

  • ITunes Error -3 and QuickTime Error 1722

    Help!
I'm at the end of my tether here, I've been trying to install iTunes 6.0 on Windows XP SP2 and getting the error -3. So, I tried the standalone Quicktime installer as recommended on this forum and I get the 1722 error.
I've followed all the recommendations for fixing the 1722 error:
    - I've uninstalled iTunes & all versions of Quicktime
    - I've stopped all Anti-Virus/Anti-Spyware software
    - I have full admin rights to the machine
    - I've updated my Windows Installer
    - I've run the Windows Installation Clean-Up Utility
    - I've hacked the registry to death giving permissions to anything vaguely associated with Apple
    - Ditto for permissions for the WINDOWS\Registration folder and the Program Files\Apple folder and the folder I'm installing from.
    - I've stopped nearly every service I can and uninstalled just about everything that's non-essential
Are all Apple's updates so difficult to get working for Windows users? Should I just go back to the version of iTunes I got with my iPod and forget about updates or perhaps it's a cunning ploy to get me to buy a Mac?
Please, please help! I'm sick of this.
    Thanks.

good lord, psifive ... are we talking: "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected." here?
that's an extremely unusual and exotic error message to be getting in this context.
let's proceed fairly cautiously, and start with something minimally aggressive. try

  • ITunes Error Message required files are missing - can't run

Plugged my iPod Nano in and my iTunes gives error "iTunes cannot run because some of its required files are missing.  Please reinstall iTunes".  Tried to reinstall iTunes and get same error.

Old question. I solved the problem myself.

  • ITunes error: The required file is locked.

I'm getting an iTunes popup error message:
'The iPod "Mark's iPod" cannot be synced. The required file is locked.'
Any ideas on clearing this guys? I've tried uninstalling iTunes, reseting the iPod, checking file permissions in the iTunes Music folder, everything. No dice.
On a positive note, it DOES still seem to sync, but it leaves iTunes in a messy state that needs a logout to shut down properly.

    Hello marktjeffrey,
Do you have your iPod set up to sync photos or anything other than music? If so, try disabling those, and see if that allows your iPod to sync error free. That way you know the problem lies with something other than the music.
Many others who have ran into this situation, found that the problem dealt with
incorrect file permissions on photos they were trying to sync to their iPod. I would double check permissions and such on everything you are trying to sync to your iPod.
    Hope this helps.

  • Error loading QT/DivX 5 component

In the console log I am seeing multiple errors of the type below but sent from Finder, Messenger, Loginwindow, Safari and iPhoto.
Clearly I am missing a DivX component/plugin for QT but I can't find a copy of DivX that runs on a Powerbook G4 running 10.5.8 - the latest version is Intel-only.
Are these messages significant? As far as I know I don't use or need DivX - can I get rid of it?

Even though you're getting a different error message, try heading into the iTunes compatibility tab, as per the following document. (Make sure that none of the boxes in there are checked ... having any box in there checked, not just the compatibility mode box itself, can cause problems.)
iTunes for Windows: How to turn off Compatibility Mode
Does that help with the iTunes launch?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for performance issues or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • TS3771 My iTunes U no longer works since the update, an error message pops up saying that "This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes." I followed the tutorial that suggests to change to from 64 to 32 bit and it didn't

iTunes U video files no longer work on my computer since i update to Mavericks. The following message appears on the screen "This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes." I followed a tutorial that suggested to go to Applications/iTunes/Get Info and change to 32 bit. Now my iTunes does not open at all, it says it requires 64 bit. I am a bit confused and disappointed. What should I do to get it fixed? Buy a new MacBook?

Marcello, I am having the same problem.  When following the advice of many in the community to start iTunes in 32-bit mode, I get the following error after I have done so:
I am running 10.9.2 on a mac mini.
I am hoping this will be fixed or at least a solid answer could be given that iTunes will no longer support certain types of media going foward.

  • Error Message with Quicktime which is required to use Itunes

QuickTime Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.''It does not give me much more than that I have tried restoring the pc to an earlier date that did not work. I tried redownloading itunes and that did not work, any other thoughts?

iTunes can not work if Quicktime doesn't.
A common cause of Quicktime problems is the installation of incompatible codec packs.
Have you installed any of the following:
ACE & K-Lite mega codecs package, QT alternative, Storm codec, WinAVI video converter, Mpcstar, (possibly starcodec pack, 3ivx)
If so uninstall them, they are known to cause trouble.
Since things seem to be in a muddle, I suggest you remove all iTunes related programs using the method here:
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
Post back if any of the uninstalls do not work.
Download the iTunes installer and the version of Quicktime that does not include iTunes - this is not the default option
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Now install Quicktime and restart your PC.
Check to see if Quicktime works.
If it does, try installing iTunes.

  • My podcast won't open.  Quicktime/iTunes error message.

I just tried to open one of the podcasts to which I subscribe only to get an error message saying that it requires Quicktime which is not supported by this version of iTunes.  I checked and the iTunes is the most recent version.  I have Quicktime on board as well.  So I have no clue how to open this podcast now.  Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Gretchen

    Hello,
I just triaged and fixed this issue for the podcast service we're running.
Wherever you're getting the itpc:// link from likely has all of the Quicktime files referenced with spaces in the URL... at least this is what the problem was for our podcasts. Once I added %20 to the empty spaces in the URL path in the target XML file that iTunes references and overwrote it on the server, everything started downloading and parsing with no hiccups.
You may need to reach out to whoever is formatting the XML to change the spaces. I believe you can do some code where you declare the link in a URI syntax. If you search stackoverflow's site, you'll find it.
    Hope this was helpful.

  • This movie requires QuickTime error message

I have a new Mac, the latest OS, the latest QuickTime and the latest iTunes. Furthermore, all of my movies/TV shows are purchased via iTunes, so there are no dodgy ripped versions / home movies / media conversions or whatever. It is all Apple from hardware to software to media purchase.
So, I get this message "The movie requires QuickTime which is not supported by this version of iTunes". It seems odd to me that somebody has actually written such an error message in the first place. How can any version of iTunes not support QuickTime, and yet, there is an "official" iTunes error message. Maybe it actually means "This movie requires (an older vesion of) Quicktime which is not supported?"
Anyway, I have researched this already, of course, and there seems no agreed way of dealing with it. Some say rebooting works (if only), others say run it in 32 bit mode (it crashes), others say start it up in safe mode etc. I cannot make it work. A few diagnistic things that may help:
I had several TV series of a show working fine. I downloaded a new series of the show, and now none of the series of that show play, and the artwork has gone.
I tried deleting some shows and adding them to the library again, but they don't add. iTunes behaves as if the files simply aren't there - but they are.
I can go to these shows and double click and they open and play with QuickTime with no problem, so the files are there, and work, and presumably have whatever "codecs" or whatever that are needed to play them.
If anyone out there can help, I'd be really grateful.
Oh, and a message for Apple, if anybody there bothers monitoring these things... This makes me really angry. I pay top dollar for your hardware and software becuase "it just works", then I have to pay a fortune for media bought through iTunes, which is usually far, far cheaper on DVD, and what do I get for that? Constant misery from iTunes. This is far from the first problem I have had. I don't rip or pirate stuff, I'm not trying anything clever, I don't have all sorts of rubbish installed on my Mac, or try running Windows or whatever. I am a simple Mac customer, running your basic stuff, and buying my media from you, and IT DOESN'T WORK. Pathetic! I wish to God I had never got into the whole Apple thing a few years back, which is something I constantly warn friends about if they say they like the look of my Mac.

Have you compared the downloads using "Get Info" to see if the failing ones have some common attribute that the successful ones don't have?  For example, might either the failing or the successful ones be M4V files while the opposite attribute is something else?
The other thing I've thought of is to ask whether you have any i-Devices (iPhone, iPad, etc.) that enter into the problem.  If you have any, they're not involved, right?

  • ITunes and Quicktime - Movie requires Quicktime which is not supported

    Ok.
Issue is:  Movies and TV shows bought thru iTunes (10.5.1) on Lion (10.7.2) generate an error at time of playback.  Error is 'This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes."
Help documents state to switch to 32 bit mode (which works).
    Here's what I've found out:
Called Apple, couldn't figure out what the issue is.  Did the standard system/disk checks/repairs/permission repairs to no avail.  Created a new user to download the video to try and play it.. The user was able to stream the video correctly.
I can play the videos IF I access them directly with QuickTime (and it doesn't need the 32 bit flag checked).  So, I copied my library files for iTunes over to the new account and tried again (before doing a file by file comparison of both user accounts) to see if maybe the size of the library I have might be an issue.
Logged into the other account and it now had the issue playing the TV show.
But, I don't consider that a valid test because I should have copied the file into it's existing library before replacing it to check and see if there's an issue with the file in iTune.
which led me to an interesting solution.. If I find the file on the drive (my Library files and all videos are on a NAS server, btw) in Finder then tell iTunes to remove the video from iTunes but not delete the file, I can drag and drop the file back into iTunes and it plays fine.
So, no need to switch to 32 bit mode, just have to delete the video from iTunes (but not the drive) then drag and drop it back into iTunes.
It sounds like, for some systems, something isn't being toggled in the iTunes library or the File when it's added to iTunes via the downloader that allows iTunes to recognize the type of playback version required.  By deleting the reference in the library then manually adding it back in, the issue is bypassed and the videos are playable again.
    I have a headache now...  ;D

Try reinstalling QuickTime Player, You can download it directly from Apple here -> http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
If that doesn't work, try reinstalling iTunes which should also reinstall QuickTime Player.
