Itunes 7.0.1.8 killed my processor !

Well not quite but the cpu usage is so high that it might as well have. 100% usage when ripping/importing a cd, synching.....which is now painfulllllllllly slow compared to ver 6 and even going from 1 track to another jumps the cpu upto 100%.
What on earth has apple done, didn't they grasp the simple concept that a newer version is meant to improve on an older version. The only thing that the the 0.1.8 release fixed for me was the quicktime/scratching audio fault.
I'm giving apple another 14days to fix this excuse for a software release or its "downgrading" to ver 6 for me.

One thing I have tried is turning off Cover Flow on all the different views (music, playlists etc.) It seems to speed things up a bit.
I have experienced the same problem as you (and I am sure countless others). My once speedy machine acts as if it were designed to play "pong" and nothing else!
I hope this is fixed next time around or I, too, will have to go back to 6.
Good luck,

  • Are there any known issues with the latest update to iTunes on Windows 7 maxing out the processor and nearly bringing the system to a hault.

Has anyone experienced an issue with the latest update to iTunes (11.2.0.115) for Windows where iTunes pegs out the processor at 97%, 98%, and holds there for maybe 15 minutes before dropping to 50%. During that time, the system is basically useless. You just have to ride it out. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium.

  • ITunes 7.7 & Disk Utility killed my iMac Optical?

I updated to my iTunes to version 7.7. About 5 minutes afterwards, I tried to open an ISO file in Disk Utility to burn a CD.
Disk Utility locked up. I waited for 2-3 minutes before force quitting. I rebooted and when to open the ISO again.
The ISO opened, but there is no burn option now.
iTunes knows / remembers the drive (Optiarc DVD RW AD-5630A)
    System Profiler reports:
No burning device was found. If you are using an external device please make sure that it is connected and powered properly.
Just curious to see if I am the only one.

  • CORECENTER KILLED MY PROCESSOR

Well what a c##p day i have had - if it wasnt the problems i had with bios 1.3V killing my mobo - this really has f##ked me off.  X(
    I have this setup -
    Pentium P4 3.0C MSI Neo FIS2R
    Winbond 3700 DDR
    Adaptec 2110S SCSI Card
    2 x Seagate Cheetah 36.4GB 15K RPM
Nice setup ???? NOT WITHOUT A PROCESSOR !
What can i say - this is how it happened - be carefull that your computer doesnt go the same way  :O
    1. Installed Bios Version 1.32 - Best for overclocking
    2. Went into bios and configured the system including these clock speeds -
    265FSB
    1.7V Core
    2.9V Mem
    1.8V GPU
These setting are ALL safe settings
    3. Installed Windows XP Professional
    4. Installed all the divers from the MSI Disk
    5.  While installing my other software - ie sandra, cpu-z to benchmark.  I run cpu-z - it shows that the core voltage is 1.75V - i though fine.  Did some benching which it passed ok then Shut down the computer.
    6. Later i Restarted computer
    7. After reading about corecenter i decided to install the software in order to find out the processor temps etc and restarted the computer
8.Did some benching and it blue screened - strange i thought - maybe a speed problem
    9.  Entered bios - says between 1.68 and 1.72 volts - fine i think must be ok. Changed to 250FSB
    10. restart windows - check voltage options in corecenter - says 1.7V (which it must have got from bios) the cpu speed is also correct
    10. on the front screen of corecenter it says the core voltage is 2.1V yet the settings are 1.7V (my fist thoughts were "s##t!!!")
    11. I tried to uninstall corecenter and the computer just blue screened, turned off and never restarted !!! - chip fried in all of 10 mins
WELL WHAT CAN I SAY - CORECENTER IS A POORLY WRITTEN PIECE OF SOFTWARE WHICH HAS TOO MANY BUGS AND HAS COST ME A LOT OF MONEY
REPLACING A £350 PROCESSOR IS NOT CHEAP - THATS OVER 2 WEEKS WAGES FOR ME - ADD TO THAT THE COST OF POSTAGE TO SEND BACK THE MOBO WHEN BIOS 1.3 MESSED IT UP.
CAN A MSI REP TO REPLY TO ME ON THIS MATTER - I STUCK BY MSI EVEN WHEN EVERYONE WALKED AFTER THE BIOS 1.3 MESS - NOW IM STUCK WITH A PROCESSOR WHICH HAS FRIED DUE TO YOUR SOFTWARE !!!!
I WILL TRY TO RMA - IF I CANT I WANT SOME SORT OF APOLOGY FROM MSI AND A NEW PROCESSOR
    REGARDS
    JASON

Now I will shed my light on MSI's CoreCenter from hell.
I've been using Linux since I put this new computer together at the end of March with absolutely no problems. A week or so ago I needed a Windows installed because I cannot go without gaming. Anyways so here it goes...
I installed Microsoft Windows XP Professional (32-bit) and everything went fine all the way through Windows Update and installing all the drivers, included:
VIA SATA Controller (done with disk during Windows Installation)
ATI Catalyst Drivers for the ATI card from ATI's website
Soundblaster Audigy 2 from CD-ROM then Web updated to current from website
    VIA Hyperion Drivers (all included)
    VIA USB 2.0 Drivers
any others you might have questions on were automatically installed by Windows
Then I installed MSI CoreCenter Plus... no problems there, opens up everything is read fine, settings look normal.
Now I go to install Counter-Strike Condition Zero. It starts copying over the files when suddenly the computer locks up and the once playing music in Winamp goes to just a beep. The screen didnt disappear, so I knew the graphics card didnt go out, so I waited a while to see if it was a graphics card lock-up (ATI has a VPU Recover program which resets the GPU in the event that it locks up.. and it does work.. continue reading to see how I know.)
I figured it was Windows and as usual Windows can lock-up like this once in a while (however you usually get blue screen's/STOP messages). So, after waiting a minute I turned off the computer, waited 20 seconds then turned it back on and started up Windows, it checked the D:\ drive as that is what was active when the computer frooze (I have C:\ for the Windows install and apps, D:\ for whatever else including games.) Then after it finished it continued on normally through the Windows startup process and I tried the installation once more, this time without Winamp running. As it was installing I opened up IE and went to a website, just after it loaded the same thing happened but this time no sound beep as Winamp wasnt running. Now I knew there was something wrong so I started experimenting. I enabled Spread Spectrum (I really dont know if EMI would even cause this but it had to do with fixing stability issues so I tried it), disabled ChipECC Kill, auto fan speed setting, and reset the configuration data (maybe it was some IRQ error?). Long story short same thing happened again, this time it was the GPU that frooze, the ATI graphics card successfully restarted it, but then the CPU's locked up JUST after it reset the graphics card.
So I restarted and tried again, this time it frooze the CPU's right off the bat.
Ok so BIOS settings seem to have nothing to do with this.
I played crazy and reinstalled Windows completely this time using ACPI Multiprocessor. Same things happened again, so I reinstalled Windows
Luckily for me I forgot to install CoreCenter this time and wow, everything installed fine, with Winamp running, hardcore CPU usage and GPU usage WHILE installing the games. Of course I didnt realize it was CoreCenter right away until I compared what could have been different before the previous installs, finally landing on CoreCenter not being installed after 5 minutes of thinking.
So I uninstalled Counter-Strike: Condition Zero again, installed MSI CoreCenter Plus and tried installing Condition Zero. Guess what? Lock-ups start occuring again.
I thought maybe it could be some Hard-Drive conflict with MSI CoreCenter somehow... So I uninstalled CoreCenter, then installed Condition Zero into the C:\ partition, then installed MSI CoreCenter and played the game. Within a few minutes the computer locked up. So I uninstalled Corecenter, then played the game with no problems for 2 hours until I was too tired to play anymore.
I see absolutely no conclusive results on what the problem could be with CoreCenter. However one thing is VERY conclusive and almost guaranteed... MSI CORECENTER IS NOT STABLE!!!!!
I should also note that I have all the BIOS's flashed to the latest. I looked for a motherboard BIOS upgrade but it appears there are no newer ones for the K8T Master-2 FAR minus a BETA one that only adds support for the K8 FX series cpu's anyways.
So right now everything is running fine without CoreCenter, however it appears you cant use Motherboard Monitor with this motherboard as it causes the computer to restart when it tries reading the data (I tried with cpu speed handling enabled and disabled in the BIOS.)

  • ITunes 10.4.1 update killed my mbp

Hi, I was running 10.6.8 (or the latest available anyway) for few weeks with no problem. Today I made the mistake of checking for any updates and noticed a new one which only included itunes 10.4.1 for my machine. After the upgrade the macbook pro wont boot up. It starts, then shows the default wallpaper (the galaxy) then it goes blue with the loader running for a moment, then it goes blue again with the loader and stays in that loop.
    Anyone with the same issue?
    Any advices?
Whatever I do I need to keep the stuff in the machine untouched. I think we can reinstall the OS without affecting the rest of the files right?
I can't find the original SL disk (I bought it in 2009) will the latest 10.6.8 combo update allow me to run the disk utility?
I wont start in safe mode.
I am able to get in in single user mode where I have run several times /sbin/fsdk -fy and it reports some repair and that everything is ok. But obviously it is not.
In verbose mode I didn't find any relevant errors I think, other than something about converting dashboardadvisoryd.plist to launchd...
    Thanks.

    Ok.
I had to order a new SL disk since I cannot find the original one. Obviously the disks are not available from the shops so I have to wait until I get it. But I am getting a bad feeling as I read different posts over the net. Lets see if the disk will help.
I though this post would help but it didn't.
I can paste here the system.log that comes out from a startup. In the end you can see a couple of events repeated which represent the loop in which the system stays.
Any hints are more than appreciated...

  • ITunes 8 / 2.1 upgrade killed my iPhone 3g.

I have today upgraded my iTunes to v8, then upgraded my iPhone to v2.1, the end result is an iPhone stuck in recovery mode that will not restore (unknown error code 13) plus the loss of my iTunes library (completely empty.
I dare not plug in my iPod!
Have started going through the Apple troubleshooting and trying the device in various USB ports to no avail.
If anyone else finds themselves in the same predicament and finds a solution, i would be most grateful.
Until now it has been a brilliant piece of kit, but is now rendered useless!

I also updated my iTunes to version 8, then downoaded the iPhone update version 2.1. (I had to reboot in between because my phone was not recognized after the update) After the download of 2.1, my phone got stuck in Recovery mode. I tried restoring to no avail. After reading a few posts of people with same issue, I logged on in my "guest" account (same computer) and the restore worked fine there. However, this meant I lost all of my settings and historical data like usage and other stats. I logged on with my regular profile and had to erase and sync the phone.
It is a mystery to me how we can restore from a back up instead of the default "factory" restore... I mean, it takes forever everytime we plug in our Phone for the back up to occur, it would be nice to be able to use it when needed. Again, after much searching, i found this link on Restore http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
So I tried to restore using my own profile since this is where the back ups are stored. Again, my phone failed to restore and I was back as square one.
What i suspect is that there is a file corrupted on the account we use to sync iPhone. Likely corrupted by installing iTunes8... This is why restore works on other computers or other accounts on same computer.
There might also be a USB connection issue. While syncing after the 2nd restore, it stopped in the middle saying my iPhone was no longer plugged in. I checked the connection and it was tight, the phone hadn't moved during syncing...
    Not impressed with this upgrade

  • Itunes update + other Apple Updates killed iPhone connection to desktop

Updated my iPhone 2G from Apple Updates, including iTunes, Quicktime, Security Update, etc.
Now my iPhone isn't recognized by my Computer/USB. It won't charge, and iTunes won't recognize it. I tried my iPod, and it functions normally, so it's not the cable (which I tried different ones anyway). The iPhone does pick up a charge when plugged directly into the outlet.
    Apple, this is getting ridiculous.

same problem on the 3GS, but the software wiped my phone THEN said it couldn't communicate. I'm screwed!

  • Did the Itunes update fiasco of 2014 kill my sound card?

I have read every post regarding  this Apple fiasco but this has been a perfect storm of Apple failure for  me, the only reason I opened my Itunes 2 nights ago was because my Ipod  of 5 years died and I had to buy a new one, so my love for Apple has  diminished greatly in the last 24 hours.
Running: Microsoft windows XP media center edition version 2002 service pack 3.
I  know enough about computers to be dangerous, I may have deleted  something for the sound card trying to get this Itunes re-install to work. I've been able  to follow everything posted like:https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5822688?tstart=30 I have deleted EVERYTHING more than once, restarted MORE than once, I  even tried loading an older version of Itunes, but the problem I'm  running into is my sound card can't or won't be detected, it was working  fine before this fiasco so I'm not sure if it's the re-install that has  caused it to be undetected or maybe it just died at the perfect time. I  keep getting this message: I tunes has detected a problem with your aiudio/video configuration and playback may not operate properly.  I  can see video but no sound, I can get into my Itunes library but  nothing will play, my sound card doesn't even show up in my devices  section anymore.
I  read a post that said something about messing with the msconfig and the  inetcpl.cpl and the dxdiag in the START/RUN area so I may have done  something stupid.
    HELP! (Apple hate) HELP!

THe update messed up my 80gb too. I spent over an hour on the phone with Apple care yesterday - and they screwed it up even worse. (I manage music & video from my home computer and my calander from my work computer.) It used to work fine - now I can't even get my work computer to recognize the ipod as a USB drive! If they would just re-post 7.5, I think I could fix it myself - but they took it off the site completely.
I told (both people at) Apple care that this is the kind of crap microsoft pulls. They send out updates with bugs. Apple is supposed to NOT do that! I am so mad right now! I just got this brand new ipod for Christmas.
Today, I am supposed to order my new laptop for work. I have been given the choice of PC or Mac. Until yesterday, I was gun-ho Mac. Now I'm not so sure. I mean - they couldn't fix my new ipod after an hour on the phone? What kind of issues am I going to have with a laptop? The closest Apple store is well over an hour away.
    Any suggestions??

  • I've received a new Ipod and after installing Itunes it takes over my PC's processor. I tunes and Applemobiledevice software are the two offending items.

As an pod newbie I'm falling at the first hurdle. I've installed itunes directly from the Apple website, but it takes over my system resources completely. I can get it to see my Ipod, but the sync option is greyed out in the menu.
Surely Itunes and Applemobiledevice cannot be that system hungry. My PC is unusable with itunes running.
I've made sure windows is up to date and I've uninstalled & re-installed itunes - all to no effect.
    Help please!

  • New Prob. iTunes kills browser functionality. Have to reboot sat. modem.

When I start iTunes, my browser functionality is killed in both Firefox and IE. Pages start to load and then say, 'done'. Blank browser screen. Email and IM still function normally. I have to close browsers and then reboot my satellite modem before browser function returns. Any clues? I love iTunes and have committed my entire library to it, but I'm at my wits end. Life without music? Thanks.
    Dell something   Windows XP Pro

Turn off the sharing functionality (both the "look for shared music" as well as the "share my music") and the functionality that lets it look for and find remote speakers. That will most likely prevent it from freezing your satellite modem when you start iTunes.
Also, look into a software or firmware upgrade for your satellite modem, since it obviously has some kind of bug internally as well.

  • ITunes processor hog - technical solutions?

I am an avid music collector with an mp3 collection approaching 100'000 songs (over 500GB) which are stored on an external firewire harddisk. iTunes seems to get slower as the library grows, often the application stalls (the dreaded spinning beach ball showing up for minutes), the app becomes unresponsible for longer periods of time. Besides the whole computer seems to slow down, Activity Monitor shows iTunes to gobble up over 90% of processor activity. Despite using current hardware (currently a 1.67 GHz 15' Powerbook, waiting for my Quad-Powermac) I am looking for a technical solution to remedy this problem. I want to put iTunes to an external server to free my main computer from the task of playing music. An X-Serve seems to be overkill for this purpose so I wanted to ask the readers of this forum how to deal with this situation. Thanks in advance!

    Pboehi hello,
extraneous calls to check for correct ownership and/or permissions plus locked files can and wiil dramatically slow iTunes whilst these issues are resolved.
    To resolve...
Use BatChmod to set correct permissions on your home ~ Music folder
This compact GUI will perform the same tasks as a 'terminal command line'
drag the complete Music folder with libraries and iTunes Music folder inside to the BatChmod Icon and drop....
check path is correct.... tick if not already.... Owner=R W X, Group=R, Others=R,
then tick 'Apply ownership and privileges' tick 'Unlock" ... click Apply...
provide password... all done very quick...
Then do the same to any other folder with music files inside... drag to BatChmod Icon and set correctly.
You can also choose to set the get info file for any Ext HD's to 'ignore ownerships an permissions on this volume' check Apply.
see how it goes after that... let me know ... take care ... TP

  • ITunes Takes Up 100% of Processing Power

I installed iTunes 7.0.1.8 a couple of weeks ago. On Wednesday, I got a new iPod Nano (2Gig) as a gift. I attached the Nano, iTunes recognized it, and iTunes started the registration process. At that point, iTunes started chewing up the computer's processor power and eventually got to 100% and stopped responding. I killed the program using Windows Task manager. I have tried almost all of the troubleshooting tips (5 Rs, etc.) and still get the same result. I did not change any of the startup programs - not that brave. I have also posted this message on the iPod Nano discussion board. If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it.

Sorry. I did a search, and a lot of threads came up. The one I chose, I thought, explained WHY it happened.
Maybe you'd get answers more helpful to you, if you went throught the search results.
Sorry I wasn't of any assistance.

  • HT2292 I'm receiving an error message when installing iTunes on a Windows 7 64-bit setup.

I saved the executable and selected to run as administrator but still received an error. The HRESULT is 0x80070BC9.

Are you using the 32 or 64 bit version? There are two versions of iTunes. One is for 64 bit processor architecture, one is for 32 bit processor architecture.
Please download the 64 bit version and test it! In my view you try to install the 32 bit version.
    Kind regards!
    Philipp
EDIT: I am sure you currently try to install the 32 bit version! It doesn't work on a 64 bit system. Are you sure that you use Windows with 64 bit?
