ITunes 7.0.2.16 won't upgrade. 7.2 won't download.

Hi there,
My current 7.0.2.16 iTunes crashs after about 2 to 5 min.
When I try to download 7.2 nothing happens after I press download, except the "thank you for downloading screen".
I don't get asked anything about running or saving a file.
Nothing.
Ideas?
Best regards
Glenn

Hi Glenn,
Close your current web browser where you are trying to download iTunes. Try switching your web accelerator and antispyware software settings to OFF prior to the install.
Then, try downloading iTunes again. Do you still have the same problem?

  • Itunes won't upgrade IOS on device

Using ITunes 10.2, and Mac OS X ver 10.6.7.  I'm trying to update Iphone 4 and IPad to IOS 4.3.3 and ITunes won't upgrade the device. It download the upgrade, backs up the device, but then says, I don't have the authorization to update the device.  Sometimes if I log on as a test user, with admin rights it will allow the change, but then it wipes all the information and files on the device too.
The apple's primary account, with ITunes is what I use to sync and download new apps and stuff, it should also be able to update the IOS, any ideas why it's not letting me?

Then I tried to update itunes and nothing happened.  It wouldn't even start to upgrade.
With that one, try updating using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) downloaded from the Apple website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Does that go through any better for you?

  • ITunes won't upgrade to10.5. Error message "There is a problem with the Windows installer package. Contact the package vendor". I need help.

    iTunes won't upgrade to10.5. I'm on 10.1.17.
When installing 10.5 it terminates with an error message "There is a problem with the Windows  installer package. Contact the package vendor".
It does not provide an error code or details/description to further troubleshoot. As a result I can't upgrade my Apple devices to leverage the cloud.
Any smarts out there who could help?
Using PC Win-7 w/IE 7 (should that matter)
    Thanks much

I know there's a million threads like this, but I thought I'd record my experience.  I, too, was having the original poster's error when I tried to update iTunes on Windows XP.  I think I was stuck on 10.
I solved it by un-installing iTunes and every other Apple app.  I discovered that Apple Software Update would not un-install as its MSI file could not be found.  I used the "Windows Install Cleanup" tool from Microsoft to remove Apple Software Update from the list of installed programs.  Google "kb290301" for a Microsoft page that includes a download link for it.  After that, I was able to install a fresh copy of iTunes 10.5.2.
I'm not sure why this app's folder and MSI were missing from my computer.  I had once used Laplink PC Mover to move everything from my old computer to this one, and perhaps it missed a bit.

I have the same problem, but don't expect Apple to help! I rang their help line and explained the situation and that the same experience is reported all over their forum and they would not assist unless I paid for a one year help subsciption.
This company has lost the plot! They create software that universally will not work then expect customers to pay to have it fixed. Technically I should walk straight into the nearest apple shop and ask for a refund, as the device is no longer fit for purpose!
Congratulations Apple for the best ant-promotional App on the market and your astounding lack of service ethos.

The option to update without the computer (Over the air) was made available with iOS 5. If your iDevice is using a version of iOS lower than 5, you will need to use iTunes on your syncing computer to perform the upgrade. Use the Apple link below as a guide for the upgrade.

  • ITunes Plus/Upgrade My Library Won't Detect Some Eligible Items

I've seen a couple of threads on this topic, and I'd like to submit my own.
This thread will serve the dual purpose of providing a possible answer to the problem and bringing to attention iTunes Store customer support's poor response thus far.
Here's the problem in a nutshell: When iTunes Plus was made available, I upgraded my Library because I have quite a few EMI records (all bought through the iTunes Store within the last few months), including Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side of the Moon', 'The Wall', 'Animals', and 'Wish You Were Here', among others.
The Upgrade successfully purchased and downloaded iTunes Plus albums for my entire EMI collection except for 'Dark Side of the Moon' and 'Animals'. When I return to Upgrade My Library in the iTunes Store, it claims my Library is completely up-to-date, when in fact it certainly isn't because two of my EMI albums are still 128 kbps DRM protected, despite the fact that the iTunes Plus album is available in the iTunes Store at full price.
Several other people are experiencing the same problem with Pink Floyd and Norah Jones. Strangely, some cannot Upgrade 'The Wall', while mine Upgraded with no problem whatsoever.
What's so buggy about Upgrade My Library, Apple? How can we manually rescan the Library so that these lingering eligible albums can be Upgraded?
I have gone back and forth with iTunes Customer Service about this issue. My first reply I received a day after filling out an error report at the Support Page.
    Dear Travis,
I understand that you are unable to upgrade two of your Pink Floyd albums that are available for purchase as iTunes Plus music. I'm sorry for this trouble.
Apple is currently working toward a resolution for the issue you have reported. You will receive an email after the matter has been investigated and further information is available.
Thank you for your patience. Apple wants your iTunes experience to be as enjoyable as possible.
    Sincerely,
    Cordon
    iTunes Store Customer Support
    I received a follow-up four days later:
    Dear Travis,
I'm sorry you ran into an error when you tried to upgrade your iTunes library. This error was caused by a temporary issue with the iTunes Store that should be resolved now. Please check the iTunes Store again. All features should be working well.
If you received this error while downloading a large purchase order, please understand that the cause of the error may be a combination of the size of the order you are downloading and the speed of your connection. Please try another connection that is faster than your current connection. If this is not possible, please continue to attempt to download your purchase. This may take several attempts.
    Sincerely,
    Cordon
    iTunes Store Customer Support
And of course, the problem hadn't been resolved as stated. So I sent a reply:
No, I'm afraid you don't understand.. I can't try to download the iTunes Plus versions of my Pink Floyd albums Dark Side of the Moon and Animals because the iTunes Plus Library Upgrade says I have nothing to upgrade.
Why is it telling me this when I have the two albums in the protected 128 kbps format, which I bought from the iTunes store only months ago? Is there a cookie I need to reset somewhere, or is this an iTunes Server issue? Why isn't 'Upgrade My Library' recognizing these two albums?
If you can't solve the issue and allow me to upgrade, would you instead credit my account for the full price of both iTunes Plus albums I'm having trouble with?
To which Apple disappointingly replied today:
    Dear Travis,
I understand you tried to upgrade your iTunes Library and all but "Pink Floyd albums Dark Side of the Moon and Animals," were upgraded. I know how frustrating this can be and I would be happy to assist you.
You can upgrade eligible previously purchased music to iTunes Plus. You will see any available upgrades on the new Upgrade My Library page. When you click the Upgrade button, you will replace all the eligible music and music videos you've bought previously on iTunes with available iTunes Plus versions of the same content (you cannot choose to upgrade only some of the items). The upgrade price is calculated based on all of your eligible content at 30¢ per song, 60¢ per video, and 30 percent of each album's purchase price. iTunes Plus music will continually be added to the iTunes Store, so your upgrade offer may change at any time. Please check back often to find new music available for upgrading.
For more information, please visit the iTunes Plus FAQ:
    http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n305567
I hope this answers your question.
Thank you for choosing the iTunes Store and have a great day!
    Sincerely,
    Sandra
    iTunes Store Customer Support
This email is the specific reason I'm posting this issue. I am curious why I would be sent a blatantly common FAQ response instead of the accurate and personal response I'm used to getting from Apple.
If they cannot figure the problem out, why don't they come out and say it, then give me a credit to my account so that I may purchase the iTunes Plus albums rather than troublesomely try and Upgrade them?
Any workaround or comments are welcome, both from Apple consumers and employees.
My apologies in advance to the outstanding Apple team that makes up 99% of the company. I don't intend to let one bad apple (no pun intended, honestly) sour the reputation of the lot of you.

I've done some comparisons of the File Info between my DRM-Protected 'Dark Side' and 'Animals' songs and the DRM-Free versions. It turns out there are differences which might explain the trouble Upgrade My Library has in recognizing eligible albums.
    On 'Animals':
    Standard http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a249/travisschiller/Picture2.png
    Plus http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a249/travisschiller/Picture1.png
Notice the difference in the album art and, notably, the Copyright information. This is not the same song with only quality affected. Apparently, there was some copyright changes that took place, which might critically affect the eligibility of an album or songs.
The same with 'Dark Side of the Moon':
    Standard http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a249/travisschiller/Picture4.png
    Plus http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a249/travisschiller/Picture3.png
Notice here, too, the running time of the song is different.
All that needs to be done by Apple is a configuration of Upgrade My Library so that it will recognize these previous versions of these albums for those of us who bought it before the revision took place.

  • HT1199 I upgraded my iTunes player on windows 7 and the upgrade did not complete successfully.  Attempts to open itunes gives an error that msvcr80.dll is not installed.  Attempte to run the upgrade againa and repair iTunes was not successful.

How to install msvcr80.dll after attempted upgrade to iTunes version 11.1.4 on Windows 7?

    This worked for me
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall press on)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

You should be storing everything on your computer.  Just sync it to the iPhone of your choice from your computer.

It seems that you try to update iTunes rather than your phone. To update your phone, connect it to your computer, and on the page of your phone in iTunes, you should have a button "check for updates" or something similar.

  • ITunes Not Recognizing my iPod Touch after Upgrading from Tiger to Leopard

After upgrading from Tiger (10.4.x) to Leopard (10.5.0=>10.5.6), my iPod Touch is no longer recognized by iTunes 8.0.2. The iPod Touch no longer appears in iTunes' "source list" (left side pane in iTunes' GUI).
Immediately prior to that upgrade, my iPod Touch was working great with Tiger (10.4.x). iTunes 8.0.2 recognized it (listed it in sources) and always synchronized with it successfully.''
My iPod Touch is also not shown in the Finder. However, it does show up as recognized in iPhoto.
Any ideas on how to get the iPod recognized again in iTunes under Leopard?

Thanks to a posting by Jim in a different Apple Discussions (forum), my problem is now resolved. Read on for the details.
iPods & Finder. Some other postings incorrectly lead me to believe that the iPod would show up in the "Finder". Jim's posting set me straight on this.
iTunes Not Recognizing iPod Touch. Prior to Jim's posting, I had already read the article that Jim referenced (to remove and reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service per article "http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747").
Prior to Jim's posting, I had also read other articles in various "Apple Discussions" (forums) that suggested this recognition problem could be resolved by uninstalling/re-installing iTunes 8.0.2. Some implied that you could just re-install iTunes 8.0.2 right over the currently installed one without bothering to uninstall it.
Based on those postings, I "gambled" last night and simply downloaded and re-installed iTunes 8.0.2 (without uninstalling it first). I noticed during the installation that the Apple Mobile Device agent was also re-installed. Well, my gamble paid off! After the installation (and a reboot?), iTunes onces again RECOGNIZED my iPod Touch.
