ITunes 7.0.2 Freeze Problem Persists
Hello -
A number of other threads have touched on this problem, but since none of the recommendations and advice I've reviewed so far has solved the problem, I'm posting a new topic in the hopes of attracting addition thinking on this issue.
When I installed iTunes 7.0.2 it worked fine - as long as my iPod (60 G video) was not plugged in. When the iPod was plugged in, however, the application froze within 1-3 seconds of the iPod appearing as attached on the iTunes screen. The application could not be moved, reduced or quit in its normal way (the only ways to quit the app were through the Task Manager or by right clicking on the iTunes icon in the Toolbar and selecting "close" (which triggered the "This program is not responding..." dialogue).
A number of users have suggested that 1) the preference files iTunesPrefs.xml and iTunes.pref in a couple of folders are at fault so I removed those from their folders to force iTune to rebuild them; 2) changing the preference on Podcast downloads to "manual" 3) creating a new user account with admin privileges to see if iTunes works there. 4) I also follow Apple's recommendation for cleaning out a systemwide file - SCInfo.sidb.
#1, #2 and #4 appear to have no effect on the system or its behavior. #3 did work and I now have an iPod with exactly 2 song fragments on it (the sample files, if memory serves).
I'd truly appreciate any ideas on how to resolve this.
Thanks
,
I too was having a good experience with iTunes 7.0.2 for a hot second. It has been a disaster since. Songs are disappearing from my iPod or just won't play. I have two CD drives but only one will download now and it alternates which is working (and freezes up).
Overall, I wish Apple would make their previous iTunes versions available. I was not having any issues until I regretably upgraded to 7.0.2. I'm going to have to reset my iPod to factory settings tonight in the hopes of fixing it. There are tousands of things I'd rather be doing.

Hi, welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Start iTunes. Second menu keyword at the top-left will be Edit. Click this and then click the last item on the menu that drops down which is Preferences. The left-most tab is General and last control on the tab is Language. Click the drop-down, select English UK or English US which should be the 8th & 9th items respectively, click OK. Close iTunes, reopen.

Since I installed Nero 2014 I get an error message when I start iTunes that registry settings for importing and burning cds/dvds have changed probably due to other burning software installed please reinstall iTunes, which I've done using 'repair' option, but the problem persists. I have been able to import cds to iTunes since I installed Nero, but it won't anymore. Does anyone recognize this problem and have a solution? Thanks for any help. Using Windows 7.
I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)
iTunes for Windows: "Registry settings" warning when opening iTunes
If you're still getting the error message (especially when you plug in the Touch), I'd check for a device filter confusion on the PC. (They can affect the connection of USB devices to a PC, as well as burning and importing CDs.) For that one, see:

I know how to fix the iTunes 7 / firmware ver. 1.2 freeze problem
Many of you (like me) are having major headaches because of the new updates that Apple has been releasing (i.e. iTunes 7). So far I only know that this affects the Video iPod, but this could very well fix other models too.
Here are some symptoms of what the following will fix, and what you most likely have already done to try and fix it.
- iPod keeps freezing after a few seconds ever since you updated to iTunes 7 and/or iPod software ver. 1.2.
- iPod will remain in Do Not Disconnect mode even after ejecting or disconnecting
- A forced reset does not fix it, as it repeats the above.
- Restoring the iPod through iTunes does not help
So, here's what to do.
The old iPod updater software is how you will fix all of this. Unfortunately, because iTunes 7 thinks that it's better and more up to date, it will prevent you from opening the old version of the software if you still have it on your machine.
So first of all, uninstall iTunes 7.0. (You do not have to remove your library information, just the software.) Restart the computer.
If you still have the old iPod updater, try it and see if it runs. If it does, read on. If not, skip to the next paragraph. So, if it does run, simply hit Restore and you can go back to a previous version of the firmware. I believe that Apple discontinued the firmware page since releasing iTunes 7. Look around some search engines like Google if you really want the latest firmware.
Take out the installation CD that came with your iPod. Run it and it should install the old iPod updater along with iTunes 6.x. iTunes 6.x cannot run since iTunes 7 changed your libary's formatting, but that will not be a problem. Run the Restore process in the old updater and it should be alright for you to start loading your stuff on again without problems.
Since iTunes 7 reformatted your libary listing, iTunes 6 will no longer work. However, you can still use it by reinstalling iTunes 7. Just make sure you do the following.
TO KEEP THE SAME THING FROM HAPPENING AGAIN
iTunes 7 is actually alright. It's the updater part of it that will screw up your iPod.
- iTunes 7 will tell you that a new iPod software version is available when you open it.
- Check the "Never Ask Again" box and click Don't Install.
- When you sync your iPod to your computer, NEVER touch the Version section when you're changing your iPod's settings. Everything else is alright to work with.
- Everything will work fine as long as you never update the iPod's software via iTunes, at least until the programmers can fix this issue in a later release or patch.
I hope this helps out a lot of you. Pretty lame of Apple to miss something this big during debugging.
Custom Windows XPListen to this person, he knows exactly what he's talking about. My unit had the freezing problem, the visual artifact problem, and eventually would only show a blank white screen after I had tinkered too long. Luckily I have another computer that I hadn't yet upgraded to itunes 7 and it had the last firmware upgrade before the itunes 7 one. From disk mode I was able to restore it to the previous firmware version, and now the ipod works perfectly.
I too am almost disqusted with Apple for 1) missing this problem and 2) not letting people know!
I wonder how many more people are going to have lots of problems so apple can protect their PR.
Anyways, what would be really helpful would be if someone could upgrade the latest firmware installer before itunes 7 (it's an individual ipod updating program, not itunes 6.xx)somewhere on the internet so users could download it and do away with this evil 1.2 firmware. -

My iTunes App (11.3.1) will not launch.
Upgraded to iTunes (11.4) but problem persists.
Need help.I have no answers for ya, but I do have the same problem, so we are not alone in this.
My iTunes stopped working after I did a couple of software updates that got my iTunes up to v. 11.4. Since that update, I can't get iTunes to open at all, neither from my dock nor from the Applications menu.
I'm wondering: Perhaps these latest iTunes updates are simply too advanced for my 10.6.8 operating system? If that's the case, how can I backtrack to an earlier version of iTunes that is compatible with my computer OS?
Any thoughts? -
when i connect my ipod to the computer a box pops up and says that itunes cannot locate/read this file, and if the problem persists to uninstall itunes and then reinstall, but i have my own user on the computer, so if i uninstall it on my user will it uninstall it on every user?

Macbook Pro (15" mid 2012) system freezing problems
I've had quite an ordeal with my Macbook Pro over the last few years, so this will be a lengthy question, sorry in advance. Let me get right to it.
Backstory:
I bought my MBP 15" new in summer of 2012. I installed 8GB ram that I had laying around. A week or so later I was playing a game (Borderlands) and my computer froze and I was forced to do a hard reset. From then on the computer started completely freezing more and more consistently, and not just with games, but while I was on the internet and in other programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Premiere. and I was forced to do hard restarts often.
I upgraded to Mountain Lion when it came out, and the problem persisted. The freezing got to the point where the screen would pixelate and get full of artifacts and blocks of glitchy colors while the sound started looping and popping until I did the hard restart. I took the computer into the apple store and they ran some tests and told me that the 8GB of ram I had put in was the wrong speed for my computer, but that as long as I changed it I shouldn't have any problems. I went home, changed my ram back to the original ram that came with my computer, and lo and behold, it got worse. it started to freeze on startup and I would have to try multiple times before it would start up, sometimes it would give me the three beeps, so I knew it was a memory problem. So I bought 16GB of the correct type of ram (1600mhz instead of the 1333mhz) and the problem seemed to stop for a few weeks. Then it started again, slow at first and then in waves where it would freeze multiple times in a row and then not at all for days or even weeks. So i took the ram out and cleaned it, thinking that it might be the ram slots acting up or a bad connection, that wasn't it. I took it back into the store to be tested, but they couldn't reproduce the freezing I had, which is just my luck..soon after that my warranty ran out, so I was on my own. I started to just deal with it because it started happening less often. Finally at the end of this summer I reinstalled OS X Mavericks because I read somewhere that someone was having a similar problem and that fixed it. I did a clean reinstall and it started running great. I started reinstalling the main programs I use (Adobe CS6, Steam, a few games, firefox, VLC, ZBrush) and it was still working fine. I played Borderlands 1 on it and it froze the entire computer soon after I started playing. I thought that might just be because that game is a port and I bought it through the Appstore. So I took it easy and the computer did well. Then I started playing Borderlands 2 (on the lowest settings to be safe) and the computer worked great, even though I played for 3 or 4 hours at a time. I thought all was well now. That was until I came back to school and then last night my computer started freezing again. It is not as bad as before, and I've only been able to reproduce it consistently while playing Borderlands 2, but it bothers me that my computer is not solid, even if it doesn't freeze doing most other things.
If I thought it would be fine if I stopped playing games on it, then I would stop and be fine with that, but I think the problem is bigger than that, and that is why I am asking for help.
What I've Tried So Far (in order, kind of):
1. Changed the ram to 8GB 1333mhz - computer started freezing after that
2. Took it to the Apple store to get it checked out - they told me it was the ram
3. I changed the ram back to 4GB 1600mhz - froze worse than before
4. Bought and put in 16GB 1600mhz - ran fine for a time, then started again
5. Took it back to the Apple store - Didn't reproduce the results
6. Uninstalled all games - didn't change anything
7. Reinstalled OS X Mavericks - Ran fine for a little while, now freezing during games again.
8. Ran Apple Hardware Test multiple times during all this, it would start and then freeze around 8 minutes in.
9. Booted in Internet Recovery mode - froze every time and gives me error code -3404D now, which I can't find any information about online.
10. Ran MemTest through Rember multiple times. Before reinstalling OS X it froze every time, now my ram passes every time.
11. Checked Activity Monitor, and ran EtreCheck - I'll post the results below, but everything seems normal to me.
12. Checked memory usage while playing Borderlands 2 (windowed, lowest settings still) the game was using about 1GB of ram, then my computer froze after playing for about 2 minutes.
13. Also I've taken my ram out and cleaned everything, including fans multiple times throughout this ordeal. My computer would get pretty hot at one point, and I thought it was overheating and maybe disconnecting some solder, so I used to turn it on its side and put a fan on it to cool it down and it would finally restart, but that was before reinstalling OS X and it hasn't been getting that hot recently.
EtreCheck Results as of right now:

It sounds like you have been on the right track in troubleshooting this issue. If the crashing or hanging persists, you may want to double-check the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article:

Installed the new iTunes 10.3 beta earlier and tried to add new songs into my library. However, it takes approx 30 mins to add 4 songs and sometimes it simply won't even add and just freezes. I tried updating to 10.3.1 and the problem persists. I haven't seen anyone post this problem, the closest I have found are others' iTunes freezing when syncing with iOS devices. I'm not sure if it makes a difference but my library is located on an external HD and the option to "Copy to iTunes library" is ticked. However, I doubt that's the main problem since if I actually wait it out and add only 1,2 songs at a time it still works, although it just takes a random amount of time to add (5+ minutes per song).
I'm hoping someone has a solution or can identify this as a bug? I've been considering downgrading to iTunes 10.2.2 so I can actually add songs to my library (but can't seem to find a link anywhere to 10.2.2). If someone could provide a link to 10.2.2, it would be incredibly helpful as well. Thanks in advance,Hi,
finally worked! I found this post and it has finally worked I understand it is the same as WHATHECK's answer so thanks WHATHECK!
You have to be certain that you have backed up your Library's and Playlists and that you are doing the one in the root (if like me you use a HD any old library/playlists instead of deleting them put them some were safe just incase and make sure you are re-creating the library from your root folder i.e user/music/itunes
Anyone trying thishttps://discussions.apple.com/message/15093132#15093132
Good luck!

Itunes 12.1.2 freezes when detecting iPhone in windows 7
Hello!
I've just reformatted my laptop and installed windows 7 home.
did all the windows update, downloaded the latest iTunes 12.1.2 from Apple site.
installed successfully. and is able to launch and play music. i've added in only one song to the library to just test.
Here's the problem i'm facing now.
- iTunes freezes if i tried to going to preferences via Edit > Preferences.
- iTunes freezes when my iPhone 6 (iOS 8.1) is plugged in. the iPhone appears under my computer, but iTunes is unable to detect/freezes.
tried these methods
- iTunes: May become unresponsive when connecting iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
- re-installing iTunes multiple times, restarted my iPhone multiple times
- running iTunes on safe mode, but i doubt this will make any difference since there are no plugins installed.
- phone does not have any podcasts/videos
- tried running iTunes in compatibility mode
- cable used is original apple cable
- created another windows user account, same problem persist.
- tried all 3 USB ports
- uninstalling apple device drivers and installing
- tried to revert back to iTunes 11.4 or older iTunes 12 version, but encounter installation errors with Apple Mobile Device.
findings
- iTunes 12.1.2 is able to detect my phone on windows8.1 (office machine)
- able to access iPhone under my computer to retrieve images/videos
- able to charge iPhone via USB
- running iTunes diagnosis states that iTunes is unable to detect any iPod/iPhone/iPad when my iPhone 6 is plugged in
- using iTunes with iPhone had been no issue before the windows re-installation with iTunes 11.4 (if i never remembered the version wrongly, it's the red icon iTunes)
- Apple mobile device is working fine when i've checked under services.
- Under device manager, the apple mobile device is shown up in the USB list
would be grateful for any help! been trying to get this fixed to do a backup and sync my other stuffs.
thanks in advance!See Fix unexpected quits or launch issues in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support.
