ITunes 7.0.2 relentlessly relaunches after I quit it.

iTunes 7.0.2 relentlessly relaunches after I quit it. in 2 seconds.
only way to quit it is to log out / in - but once iTunes is launched, it prefers to stay that way.
help?

Re: iTunes 7.0.2 relentlessly relaunches after I quit it. .
Answered for now, unless problem returns.
It had started days ago.
The following did not help:
Disabled Sing That Tune! widget
Uninstalled Speedit and Core Duo Temp.
These were restored prior to discovering my hopeful fix(es):
The following seemed to help:
Disk Utility couldn't complete permissions nor disk verification. Rebooted in safe mode. Opened & closed iTunes 7.0.2 normally (Firefox 2.0 not used).
Rebooted normally. Cache files appeared in trash, not there before. Cool. Disk Utility: Verified Permissions and Disk, no repairs needed.
Opened & closed iTunes normally (Firefox again not used). Yay!
Macaroni had repaired permissions yesterday. I'd read iTunes no longer handles that properly, disabled it in Macaroni to leave iTunes alone for immediate future.
Began suspecting FoxyTunes 2.0.4 (current version) add-on for iTunes control from within FireFox 2.0 [Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061010 Firefox/2.0.]
Once FoxyTunes is activated iTunes WILL launch. I prefer that as I'm indicating I want to use iTunes.
But sure enough - I disabled FoxyTunes' 'Update Title and Volume on Startup'. This means Firefox 2.0 startup! It drove me crazy! Problem ALMOST solved.
However - once FoxyTunes is active (as above or by mouseover) and iTunes is quit, iTunes WILL Re-launch RELENTLESSLY after each time it is quit - until Firefox is quit!
I also set FoxyTunes to auto-hide as much of itself as possible, but left it in FireFox's status bar. For now.
I'm copying this to FoxyTunes. It seems iTunes should NOT be launched by FoxyTunes until a command is issued. Mousing over or viewing FoxyTunes menus should not do it.
Thanks.

  • My itunes continues to play very faintly after I quit the program, what could cause this?

My itunes continues to play very faintly after I quit the program.  I actually though I was going crazy but it does continue to play after the program has been shut down.  Very, very low volume though.  I can't pause it or turn it up or down.  I do us imatch.  Please Help!!!!

Do you have backups of all the data on the startup drive? If not, do nothing else until you've backed up that data, if you still can.

  • Mail no relaunching after force quit - Yosemite

Had to Force Quit mail in Yosemite because Print PDF to mail crashed the app.  Now cannot relaunch Mail.  Just sits in the menu bar and cannot click on it.
    Have to restart the computer...

    Try the following;
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, and 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
If DU cannot fix the sibling link error (it may not) and you don't have Disk Warrior then you may attempt this suggestion: Fix Invalid Sibling Link.
If these all fail then you will have to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X from scratch. You may be able to recover your personal files if your computer has a Firewire port, and you have access to another Mac with a Firewire port. You can then use Target Disk Mode to try and access the drive on your computer and copy off your personal files.

  • ITunes 7 automatically relaunches after quit.

I have the same problem on both my intel mac mini and my MacBook Pro. The problem is worse on my mini as iTunes can hardly stay closed for 30 seconds and usually will relaunch immediately after quitting. The MacBook Pro tends to wait about 3-5 minutes after I quit to decide and launch iTunes - especially when I'm trying to play a game or anything else full screen, this is extremely annoying as it takes the full screen item, puts it in a window, and forces the machine's focus to iTunes.
Any idea what might be causing this? I thought it might be autolaunching from detecting a fake ipod, but I unplugged my ipod and both machines kept launching iTunes. I even unplugged the USB cable from the computer to see if that might help, but no matter what I try, the problem still persists and iTunes has already launched twice in the time that I have written this.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

iTunes related Widgets can cause these problems.
Disable them and see if this helps.
Other users reported they could enable them again, without the problem returning.
    hope this helps.

  • ITunes 10 forgets podcast playback position after Mac restart

iTunes 10 forgets playback position of podcasts (but does remember they have been played, but not finished so are not auto-deleted, thankfully) after I just restart my Mac, but not after I quit and relaunch iTunes. Everything was fine in iTunes 9, but once I installed 10 playback positions are totally forgotten after my Mac is turned off. Weird, huh? Why are they not being lost if I just restart the app as well?
No other app's prefs are are affected. Only iTunes 10 is bugged.

Here's a wrinkle: I still have iTunes 9 (9.2 or whatever the latest version is), not iTunes 10, and I had a similar problem today. Could this be related?
Having listened to a bunch of podcasts on my iPhone, I synced with my iBook, which put those same podcasts back on to my iPhone, showing as either unplayed or partially-played, depending on their status the LAST time I synced, which was probably 3 or more days ago. No new podcasts were added.
All the posts on here seem to be from the last week, so I wonder if this problem has to do not with iTunes 10, but with the iOS firmware. I know there was a recent firmware update that I installed on my iPhone 3G.
Well I've not got any iOS devices, just an 80GB iPod classic and second gen-shuffle. Yet this issue arose for me after updating to iTunes 10 shrug

  • ITunes moves music up one level after play

    Hi All:
iTunes recently started moving played music up a folder level once played.  I have iTunes 10.4.1 on a Windows 7 machine, and it is set to organize my music.
Normally, music is kept in the subfolder Music in my iTunes library folder, but the MP3 and associated artist/album folder moved to the iTunes directory (above the Music subfolder) after a single play of a given song.  Why is this occuring, and can it be stopped.  Any help is much appreciated.

Here are typical layouts for the iTunes folders:
If you have upgraded from version 8 (or earlier) to iTunes 9 (or later) at some point, then your media folder (everything inside the red outline) may still be called iTunes Music instead of iTunes Media. The extra Music folder inside the media folder is used if you have allowed iTunes to Upgrade to iTunes Media Organization (iTunes 9) or used File > Library > Organize Library > Reorganize files in the folder "<Media Folder>" (iTunes 10). Depending on your choices for Keep iTunes Media folder organized and Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library plus a little bug in which one build changed the name of the file storing the choice of layout it is quite easy for some of your files to be organized according to one layout and some the other.
Assuming you're happy letting iTunes organize your files the following steps should tidy things up (should it be necessary):
    1. Select File > Library > Organize Library... > Tick Reorganize files in the folder "<Media Folder>" and click OK. Skip if this option is greyed out (already upgraded) or you prefer the older layout. Also make sure <Media Folder> is pointed to the correct place, e.g. iTunes Media or iTunes Music, not iTunes.
    2. Select File > Library > Organize Library... > Tick Consolidate files and click OK. This will bring any files currently organised outside the designated media folder into it.   NB This will create duplicate copies of any file that needs to be consolidated, and you will need to manually clean up afterwards. If space is at a premium try my scripts Unconsolidated to find out what would need moving and ConsolidatebyMoving to move rather than copy it.
    3. Select Edit > Preferences > Advanced tab, uncheck Keep iTunes Media folder organized and click OK.
    4. Select Edit > Preferences > Advanced tab, check Keep iTunes Media folder organized and click OK. This triggers iTunes into reorganizing everything according to your preferences.
    5. (Optional) Close iTunes, rename the folder iTunes Music as iTunes Media then restart iTunes. Check under Edit > Preferences > Advanced tab that the location has automatically updated. If you can't access the media for any reason just undo the folder rename.
    6. (Optional - Windows only) If Windows Media Player has ever had access to your files it may have liberally scattered folder artwork files about which iTunes won't tidy up when it reorganizes things, thus leaving behind a heap of folders with artwork and no media. I've written a script for cleaning this mess up called CleanDeadArt.
PS If you really prefer the older layout, but it is already in the new one then edit the file called .iTunes Preferences.plist in your media folder and change the integer from 1 to 0 before doing step 3.
If I read your post correctly it sounds as if things are a little mixed up already, with the media folder preference pointed at iTunes instead of an iTunes Music or iTunes Media folder inside it. The music popping up a level suggests your library was in the new format but now thinks it should be in the old one and is "correcting" tracks as they are played. If you can confirm the exact arrangement of media files and media folders I can probably suggest a way to restore order things without duplicating all of your files. If you simply tell iTunes to start using iTunes/iTunes Media as the media folder then your existing content will be unconsolidated as far as iTunes is concerned.

    Hi Jim,
Thank you for your reply to my posting about iTunes not recognizing my iPod Touch after upgrading to Leopard.
iPods & Finder. Some other postings incorrectly lead me to believe that the iPod would show up in the "Finder". Thanks for setting me straight on this.
iTunes Not Recognizing iPod Touch. Prior to your posting, I had already read the article you referenced (to remove and reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service per article "http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747").
Prior to your posting, I had also read other articles in various "Apple Discussions" (forums) that suggested this recognition problem could be resolved by uninstalling/re-installing iTunes 8.0.2. Some implied that you could just re-install iTunes 8.0.2 right over the currently installed one without bothering to uninstall it.
Based on those postings, I "gambled" last night and simply downloaded and re-installed iTunes 8.0.2 (without uninstalling it first). I noticed during the installation that the Apple Mobile Device agent you referenced was also re-installed. Well, my gamble paid off! After the installation (and a reboot?), iTunes onces again RECOGNIZED my iPod Touch.

  • ITunes can't locate some files after HD swap

I've just transferred my files from an old external HD, to a new one. these files included some music from my iTunes Library. this is a hassle - but i've got my music split up into two parts on my internal drive, and the rest on an external drive...
I suspected this maybe a problem - but i've renamed the new external HD to have exactly the same volume name as the old one - i thought that this would keep iTunes working fine. i have some of my songs that are on the external HD working fine - iTunes didn't have a problem with them. but others that are on the external HD get the "!" next to them - and the old "original file cannot be found" message.
I am sure that the files are in there... i just added them to my iTunes Library after i'd moved then to my old external HD. then i had to move everything to the new external HD. i have manually located some of the songs.. and they're right in the same location as they were when i added them. this is strange...
I also tried moving the iTunes Library and the .xml file out of ~/Music/iTunes/ folder, then started up iTunes again (resulting in an empty library). then i tried to Import that .xml file - but i got the error:
"Some of the songs in the file "iTunes Music Library.xml" were not imported because they could not be found."
I opened up the .xml file in TextEdit and it lists the full path to each song. so i'm thinking - if somehow there's any differences or errors in the path names, i could use the "find & replace" function of TextEdit to fix it... well i'll keep working on it. i was wondering if anyone here knows what's happening? especially regarding why some songs on that external HD would still play fine in iTunes, and other "can't be found".
and sorry for the long post - i hope i've explained this properly. just ask if you're a bit confused. :P
    EDIT>>
okay - i think i've found my problem...
i had re-named my old drive, after i changed the name of my new drive to what the old drive previously was, so i didn't get confused. but i must have opened up iTunes along the way somewhere... i've checked the .xml file and some of the file paths have the name from my old, re-named HD. i've been doing a find and replace in TextEdit - so hopefully that will fix it all.

There is a better way to do this: use the File > Add To Library command. But first you should open iTunes Prefs > Advanced and deselect the "copy files to iTunes Music folder..." option and the "keep iTunes music folder organize" option.
After you have done this use the Add To Library command to get iTunes to recognize your music again.

  • My iTunes 10.5 restarts immediately after I quit the program. How can I fix this?

It is very frustrating. I quit iTunes and it starts back up seconds later. It seems after I quit it 10 or more times, it will finally stop restarting. To my knowledge, this has only been occuring over the past few weeks and I'm pretty certain is was about the time I last updated iTunes. Maybe it's a coincidence and something else is to blame?
After searching this community, I found someone who had a problem like this on his Mac back in 2009 that turned out to be a third party widget he was running. I do not use any third party music related stuff on my PC (not a Mac). The only other music-related software I have is Spotify and Windows Media Player and they do not appear to interact with iTunes. I do not have any iDevice's (like an iPod or iPad) continuously hooked up that might be causing it to restart like this. I'm not wirelessly syncing my iDevices either.
I'm at a loss for what to do. I now have to decide if I really need to use iTunes at a particular moment, because I know I'll have to close the program up to ten times to get it to stay closed. Is this a known bug? Any solutions? I would rather not leave iTunes running in my system tray all day long and tie up resources.
