ITunes 7.0.2 will not start

Question

I am using iTunes 7.0.2 and when I try to start it, the iTunes.exe process will appear in the task manager and then disappear, and I will get "iTunes has encountered a problem and must be shut down". I have tried deleting the original .pref files in Application data. I have tried using Repair in the install files. I have also checked QuickTime. QuickTime will start and then disappear from the Task Manager. I will never get an actual program window or error from QuickTime. I have tried uninstalling and installing 6.0.5 and it comes up with the same problem. Please help.

Many have had similar issue resolved using steps listed in that article
Possible quick fix:
Try "Completely Remove iTunes and QuickTime"
Disable any security/anti-virus software you have (temporarily)
Install the stand-alone version of QuickTime
Save the iTunes 7.0.2 installer to PC, then install it (just don't use Run option)
Thes steps can often resolve, but refer to article for details of other steps.
