It sounds like that DVD has a problem. Are you able to try it in another Mac? If it mounts on another Mac you can make a disk image of it using Disk Utility then copy that disk image to the first Mac & install from there.
Another option is to try polishing the DVD. This can fill in minor defects & allow the disk to be read.

  • ITunes 10.4.1 won't start (os x 10.6.8)

I let software update install itunes 10.4.1 on my imac with os x 10.6.8.  Previous itunes version was 10.3.1.  New version won't even start up.
    Any suggestions?
Background:  I previously installed itunes 10.4, but then restored my previous 10.3.1 installation and libraries because of an annoying bug in 10.4.
    At least 10.4 would start.

Hi - thanks for your help and sorry not to have replied before - I've been away.
I use mainly Chrome but also tried IE8 just in case - no difference.  However I finally remembered that when I had a similar problem downloading/installing OS4 for my iPhone (which crashed it and caused total lockup for about 4 days, resolved only after hours of calls to iPhone helpdesk) it turned out that the problem was caused by my home wi-fi connection.  When I hard-wired the network connection the problem was solved.  I tried it with iTunes - and it installed first time.
Don't know what would cause this problem, which as far as I can see affects only Apple software.  Everything else seems to download and install over the wi-fi without glitches.
    Best,
    John

  • ITunes 7.6.2 won't start up!

I just updated to iTunes 7.6.2 through software update, and now my iTunes won't even start up! This is frustrating!! I already tried repairing permissions and restarting.

I can't even install it. It gets so far then a HKEY LOCAL error message appears. So now everytime I run iTunes it says it hasn't been installed properly. Still using version 7.6.1.9...
    Thanks Apple!

  • ITunes 12.1.1 won't start on Windows 7

I've just installed iTunes 12.1.1.4 64-bit on on Windows 7. The installation did not report any errors.
Prior to my installation, the previous version (not sure of the version #) worked fine.
But now iTunes won't launch. When I double click the icon, it literally does nothing - no error message, dialog box or anything.
I've tried uninstalling (using a clean uninstall as described in Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates)
    but nothing works.
As of right now, I have no way of running or using iTunes. Please help.

If you're running a 64-bit edition of Win7, did you try installing the alternate iTunes 12.1.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards), as referenced within turingtest2's user tip?  Although this is primarily intended to address playback issues, QuickTime and Outlook integration conflicts, and problems with other third-party applications, it also seems to solve some other compatibility issues with the "full" 64-bit version if iTunes.

Not only will it not start up, but it makes my entire computer freeze so that I have to hold down the power key to restart.
I've run Disk Utility (it doesn't find any problems) and DiskWarrior (same) - so what gives??

Try deleting your iTunes preference files (com.apple.itunesxxx.plist, in your user's Library -> Preference folder) and see if that helps.
    Hope it does.

U have a problem in memory management,
    facts
(The Kernel32.dll file is a 32-bit dynamic link library file in Windows 95,98,Me. The Kernel32.dll file handles memory management, input/output operations, and interrupts. When you start Windows, Kernel32.dll is loaded into a protected memory space so that other programs do not take over that memory space.)
in short, itunes is not allowed to install or "operate" within the set parameters, Windows "belives" it to be trying to "overwrite" windows kernel os files,
Solve: Try to Create a new folder and designate Itunes to Install and operate from the newly created folder in c/programs. also since u have a problem with q-time i recomend removing it and re-installing it. use a clean up program before re-installing Itunes, ( ex CCleaner free and a wery good clean up program), if or when you try to start itunes again see if the exe programes are initiated:
    iPodService.exe
    iTunes.exe
if they are not or it is still "incompatible" with kernel, I belive you have to look at your Audio setings as well. I hope this is off any use. Good Luck

I crashed it turning it off after an iTunes install failed. Won't start since. I think I made the d: drive your supposed to when I got the thing. And I have it backed up through norton ....but I can't even get it to start....have tried the recovery options...says not available to me and directed me here.

The HP Hard Disk Test might be able to fix errors while testing the hard disk drive. Do the following:
Press and hold the power switch for 5 - 15 seconds to turn off the computer.
Press the power switch to turn on the computer, and immediately press the esc key.
On the HP Startup Menu, press the F2 System Diagnostics key.

Ok so I updated to iOS 7 on my iPod (5th) it let me update my apps but I cannot download new apps thanks to the terms and conditions. Also my iTunes won't start it just blank, I tried everything I need help

Did you download the new iTunes update that was also released this afternoon? That might be the problem. The new iTunes update came out today as well as the new iOS 7 update and if you haven't downloaded the new iTunes update it may be a compatibility problem so if you didn't, first update to the new iTunes and try again.

  • ITunes won't start

I checked support and deleted what they told me to and then restarted my computer. iTunes will open, but when I close it, it won't start again once I try to click on the icons. I tried everything. I restarted my computer three times and re updated the iTunes and nothing will work. I found this out trying to get the iTunes store to work because it didn't download my previous purchases from the store. Every time I restart, iTunes will work, but once you close iTunes, it will not start up again. Even when I deleted iTunes completely and tried redownloading iTunes, it was acting weird. It said that iTunes was still on and asked if I wanted to proceed, even though iTunes was not running. I did not know updating the iTunes would cause my whole iTunes to crash. I'm now hesitant to update my laptop's iTunes. Please help! This is complete BS if Apple makes an update that won't even work!

  • IPod Touch not recognized in Windows & iTunes won't start unknown error -50

I have been trying to fix a connectivity issue with my iPod touch for almost 6 hours now. I've read all over the iPod Touch forums and none of the solutions worked for me. I've installed and uninstalled iTunes multiple times and nothing seems to work.
Also, earlier this evening iTunes was working but it wouldn't recognize my iPod touch although it would charge. Now that iTunes won't start I'm also having problems with charging my iPod and at no time, was my iPod ever recognized in 'My Computer'.
Someone please help! I'm at my wits end without being able to use and update my iPod. All help/insight/suggestions are appreciated and thanks in advance!

if still no joy, it could be that your Touch is a goner. if it is still under warranty, you should plan a trip to the nearest Apple store.

  • ITunes won't start up when connecting iPhone

My wife has been having this trouble for awhile, and now I started having the same trouble too. She has an iMac G5 running latest versions of Leopard and iTunes. I have a Power Mac G4 (Gigabit Ethernet model) running the latest version of Tiger and iTunes I also have a USB 2.0 PCI card which has already been tested and is operating properly. Both of our iPhones are the original model running iPhone 2.0, but this problem was happening on her setup before the 2.0/MobileMe fiasco.
Basically, iTunes won't start on her machine when she sets her iPhone into the iPhone Dock, even though it does show that it is charging. When she clicks iTunes, it syncs new data from her iMac to her iphone, but new data on her iPhone doesn't transfer to her iMac (remember, this is BEFORE the MobileMe/2.0 update). I've tried different sync cables, plugging it in to different USB ports, and always it's the same- it may work properly when I unplug the cable and plug it back in again, but after I remove the iPhone from its dock and set it back in, it malfunctions the same as I just described. It initiates a sync if iTunes is running, but not if iTunes is shut down. The crazy thing is, her syncing was working perfectly both ways until about two months before the MobileMe/2.0 switch, so I know it has nothing to do with that.
Today, my Power Mac and iPhone started displaying the same symptoms, but with a twist- I put my iPhone into its cradle, and nothing- no charging screen and tone, no syncing startup, nothing. I turn iTunes off, pull the iPhone out of the cradle, and set it back in again- nothing. iTunes won't even start up; and when I start it up myself, it still doesn't recognize the iPhone is there. I plug the iPhone into a wall charger using the same cable I sync with, and it starts charging with no problems. I plug my iPhone cradle back into my external USB hub, connected to one of the USB 1.1 ports, and the syncing/charging works flawlessly. The weird thing is, my 4th Generation iPod Photo is on a different dock with a different cable, plugged into the same USB 2.0 card, and iTunes starts and syncs with no problems with that iPod every time.
I've taken my wife's iMac, her iPhone, and her iPhone dock and cable in to the Apple Store's Genius Bar, but they weren't able to figure out the problem. They tried to redirect the syncing issues by trying to demonstrate iPhone 2.0's wireless push/pull capabilities, but they couldn't get that to work properly, even though all the settings on the imac and the iPhone were correct. All they could suggest was that I must have had a "bad upgrade" when I upgraded to Leopard (6 months ago?!?), and that I should try an "Archive and Install" of Leopard again to see if that sorts out the issue- something I do not really have the time to do (and my wife can't really be without her Mac for that long since she uses it for work).
I see a lot of similar issues on Apple's iPhone support pages with iTunes not recognizing iPhones when they're plugged in, or not charging when plugged in, etc. I've spent a lot of money on our Macs and our iPhones based on the idea (from Apple's own marketing) that Apple's products "just work". And darn it, with all the money I've invested into these products I just want them to WORK- EVERY TIME, without fail! These are the kind of problems I left behind in the Windows world, and I don't want their ugly heads to surface here too.
