ITunes 7.0.x song playback problems

since i downloaded 7.0.2, my iTunes will only play several seconds of any song purchased from the iTunes store. i HAVE authorised this computer, i am not over the limit for number of computers, and in fact, i get no error message when i try to play one of these songs, it just starts, and then after a bit it skips on to the next one. i have also checked and verified disk permissions, reinstalled iTunes, and prayed for the whole thing; and so far nothing has fixed the problem.
has anyone had similiar issues or have any suggestions to fix the problem?

I've disabled and re-enabled Synergy and since then – knock on wood –the problem didn't reoccur. Strange...
I've also emailed Wincent Colaluta, the guy behind Synergy and he replied as below:
I have seen plenty of reports about bugs in iTunes 7 and it appears that Apple is fixing them fairly quickly with 7.0.1, 7.0.2 etc. The kind of problem you talk about can't be a bug in Synergy because Synergy has no control over what iTunes does within its own interface, but it could be that trying to control iTunes via Synergy might be exposing a bug in iTunes itself.
To understand this, realize that Synergy communicates with iTunes via AppleScript; things like:
tell application "iTunes" to play
So Synergy isn't directly modifying iTunes, it's making a request from outside that iTunes does something. So if iTunes has a bug in its AppleScript handling then you could see problems, but there's nothing that can be changed in Synergy to fix them; it's up to Apple to fix them.
There are some other troubleshooting techniques you can use to rule out other potential causes:
http://wincent.com/s/bugs/
This is the standard Mac OS X troubleshooting procedure, which includes things like ruling out third-party extensions, ruling out corrupt preferences, trying from another account etc.
Cheers,
Wincent

  • Song playback problem

On my 8gb nano I've been having a playback problem. A song will start playing and then stop. The nano will then skip to the next song. If I try to go backward to the begining of the song that wouldn't play, the nano skips over it and goes to the song that played before the song that wouldn't play. What can I do to troubleshoot or fix this problem?

    Hi Wille_ecj!
You might need to reimport that song(s) into your iTunes library - or, you could try to play it in iTunes. And, if you are prompted to find the source of the file on your computer, try locating it.
If you can't locate it, just delete it from your iTunes library, then reimport it back in.
If this is a song that was purchased from the iTunes Store, however, then try and see if the techniques in this article help with that issue:
iPod doesn't play purchased content from the iTunes Store

  • Itunes not syncing new songs + other problems. Help please!

My computer had to be taken to the shop last week and the whole system had to be wiped and recovered. I forgot to tell them there was another file I wanted saved so I lost a lot of my music.
I managed to download the free version of touchcopy and get my music back on to itunes. The music that I lost comes up with a question mark and wont play on itunes but is in ipod and plays fine. Is there anyway I can get the original files of these songs on to my computer as I cant make playlists or anything with these songs?
Also in my ipod a few of the playlists have been screwed up and there are about 5-6 versions of 90s music, recently added etc that have nothing in them. Is there anyway to get rid of them?
My main problem now is that itunes wont sync the new music that Ive just added (it wasnt on the ipod before). When i plug my ipod into my computer itunes tells me "sync is complete" and it also shows up with "do not disconnect" on my computer even though the sync is apparantly complete. How do I sync this music on to my ipod??
Sorry for that incredibly long winded problem, I really hope someone can help me!!

    Here are things I did:
Unchecked the playlists, Synced to remove all songs, rechecked them, synced again. NO RESULT
Added the songs manually by dragging and dropping them into my iphone. NO RESULT
Eventually, I cracked, and went for a restore, which luckily did the trick.
No solution was found however, and I would love to know if anyone has encountered this issue as I'm sure it will happen again.
    Thanks

  • Songs randomly stopping in itunes & itunes continuously determining gapless playback problems

I'm running itunes 11.1.4 on a macbook pro with mavericks (and have been since mavericks has come out), and over the past week, I've been running into two problems while importing new music into my itunes.
First, certain songs will randomly stop while playing and immediately go to the next song. It seems to be happening to files that are regular mp3 files.  If I convert a flac file to mp3 and then add them to my itunes, they seem to play fine. I have also went into my itunes folder and played multiple songs that I've had these stopping issues with through my VLC and Quicktime players, and have had no playback issues while running them with VLC or Quicktime.
I should also add that under my itunes' advance preferences, I have "keep itunes folder organized" and "copy files to itunes media folder when adding to library" checked, so I assume that these files that I am choosing (control/click, "open with" VLC or Quicktime Player) to play through VLC or Quicktime are the exact same that my itunes is using when I select them within the itunes application.
I have checked the start and stop times, and they all show start 0:00 and then it's appropriate stop time.  For example, my entire Eric Clapton collection will abruptly stop at 1:33. If I scrub past that point, the songs will play. But if they're left to hit 1:33 on their own, they stop and then the next song starts.
At first I was thinking that these were corrupted files, but this has been happening a lot, to a lot of different files, so I'm thinking this is some sort of playback issue through itunes.
My other problem, which I've started to notice only over the past week or so, is that itunes is continuously "determining gapless playback" over a group of about 1300 songs or so (give or take a few, that's roughly the amount of songs it says that it's running through).  This will happen when I restart itunes after quitting, if I add new music, or sometimes just randomly as other music is playing.
I haven't been able to see if itunes continues to run through the same songs, since I tend to catch it while it's doing it, and not when it starts. And, the time it takes to complete can vary greatly from just several seconds to several minutes, all while showing roughly the same amount of songs being scanned.
I'm use to seeing itunes determine gapless playback when it was done importing a specific album, and that would be the end of it. But now, it keeps doing it. If I add an album, it starts checking an additional 800+ songs on average. And until it's done, itunes runs slow (playback buttons, scrolling through artists).
I know that these questions have been asked before, and I have google searched for them and have come across apple discussions about similar topics. However, more often than not, the discussions that I have come across have either been older, specifically about itunes store purchases, or have had multiple people say that they're having issues with no solution, so I apologize in advance if I've overlooked something that may have already addressed my concerns. I have also checked all of my permissions through disk utility, along with verifying the disk, which showed that it was running ok.

I have the same problem but with grievous outcome: my entire machine hangs; I've done EVERYTHING I, and several product specialists can think of short of deleting my entire music collection.
I don't think it has anything to do with the name of a single track - it's hanging on different tracks for me with no consistency in naming styles. I've reinstalled iTunes several times, killed the cache, the preferences, tried it as a different user, deleted and rebuilt my library, and NOTHING helps. When iTunes comes up, it immediately goes into "Determining Gapless Playback..." and withing 2-3 songs the machine HANGS and has to be hard powered.
Of course, I've tried to set every song to a non-gapless song, tried to turn on or off song crossfade, no luck.
APPLE: Please listen and help!! Make gapless playback a removable option or something!

  • Has Apple acknowledged the problem yet with itunes aborting preview of songs after about 10 seconds on windows 7 and if so is there an answer other than ipconfig?

Has Apple acknowledged the problem yet with itunes aborting preview of songs after about 10 seconds on windows 7 and if so is there an answer other than ipconfig?  IPConfig /flushdns doesn't help at all.  Until they fix it I will be previewing and buying my songs thru Amazon.

Doublechecking ... do you still get that if you update to iTunes 10.6.3.25 (just released today)?

  • ITunes 7.2 Problem: Song Order Problem

    Equipment Specs:
    IPOD -- First Generation, 1 G size, Firmware ver # 1.1.5
    ITunes -- Ver # 7.2.0.34
    Problem
I recently updated to the above version of ITunes. I also recently reset/erased all my songs (no podcasts or nothing else)from my IPOD.
I then reloaded just songs to my pod using the drag and drop method from the music file. I then re-arranged the songs in my desired order.
I then disonnected the pod and exited ITunes.
When I later restarted ITunes with the pod connected, my song order had changed. With the pod still open in ITunes, I am no longer able to change the play order position. As say, move song #45 to position #2 and etc.
Has something changed as I was always able to do this prior to updating ITunes and the pod ?
Was this caused by updating ITunes to the newest version?
Is there a solution to be able to manage the order of your songs as before ?
Can I use a 6.0 version of Itunes inorder to regain this song order problem. I was always able to use this function in a previous version.
Wished I never would have updated to 7.2 from whatever I had. I really should have know better.
    Thx
    Arc

Solved my problem by reloading ITunes Version 7.1.1.5. Now I can accomplish what I want to do.

  • Can someone help with my itunes song skipping problem?

I just got a new laptop and transfered all the songs successfully, downloaded the newest itunes and bought more songs from the itunes store and two days later, my songs started skipping. They aren't skipping as bad as i've read on the messages boards of other people, maybe one small skip in various songs.
    But...
Once I plug in my ipod to the usb port, will the skipping songs transfer onto my ipod and start making them skip as well? I checked my ipod and all the songs are ok, but I haven't attached my ipod since the songs started skipping.
Oh yeah...I've set Quicktime to safemode, I've read on these boards about switching to safemode...but nothing changed.
    What do you guys think?

Unless the problem is with the songs themselves, moving the songs to your iPod will not make them skip there. Before you sync the files in question you should play them with another medium (ie. "Windows Media Player"). This will help you pinpoint where the problem is.

  • Are you having iTunes video playback problems?

Do you have iTunes Store-bought videos whose playback is terrible, all choppy and full of freezes while playing back in iTunes?
Have you copied one of those iTunes videos to a thumb drive and had it play back perfectly?
This problem is not fixed by any of the Quicktime adjustments that Apple suggests on their "how to fix video playback issues" page, and, aside from this video playback issue, iTunes is working fine on my machine. As I said, the videos work fine, too, if played from a thumb drive instead of the hard drive.
This has been going on for weeks, and people have been posting about it here on the forum, but, to my knowledge, there's no fix. Just silence.
It might be useful if people who are seeing this problem post some information about their systems. For all I know, all of us who are seeing this problem have one particular vendor's computer.
The computer I am having this problem with is a new HP laptop that came with Vista. This one:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?docname=c00846935&cc=us&dlc=e n&lc=en&jumpid=regR1002USEN
    1.6 GHz AMD Turion ™ 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology TL-52
    2 X 512KB L2 Cache
    2048MB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 (UMA)
    120GB 5400RPM (SATA)
I think the problem has to do with SATA, but I don't really know, except that my computer has it and I am able to play these videos perfectly from a thumb drive but not the SATA hard drive.
If you are having this problem, please consider posting your computer's info. Thanks.
HP Pavilion Entertainment PC   Other OS   Vista

OK, I figured it out... I too have a dv6000 with Vista and I have been trying to fix this terrible itunes video playback thing and this is what I found. For whatever reason the NVidia driver in the dv series doesn't play nice with Vista. They say that they are looking into it but have no response other than that. Somehow the data from the hard drive isn't fast enough. So, reading this I figured that if that REALLY is the problem that I could use a external drive and have the videos come from there, and Voila!! It works like a charm, no skipping, no stalling, no more blue screens. I hope this is helpful, I know what a pain this can be.
ALSO, apparently some think that you can't watch itunes video while using Vista's "ReadyBoost". I haven't had that issue personally, but I have seen a lot that have who disabled it and had it work fine.
Let me know if this works for everyone else.

  • IOS Music Player MP3 Gapless Playback Problem

    Hi,
I've been having this gapless playback issue on iOS now for the past few years, since at least iOS 6 if I can remember correctly. The number one reason I use an iPhone and iOS devices is for gapless playback in the iOS music player. For the last few years I've  been experiencing a bug with the stock iOS music player on my iPhone 4S using iOS 6 and on my iPhone 5 using iOS 6 & 7, and currently on my new iPhone 6 running iOS 8.1.2. This only happens on my iPhones and using iOS, this bug is not found when I use my iPod classic or when playing the same albums through iTunes.
I thought it might have been spotted by other iOS users and fixed in iOS 7.1 or at least the current version of iOS 8, but instead it's gotten worse, albums that used to play smoothly between transitions now suddenly pause and jump for a split second when changing from track to track.
What's happening is, I listen to a lot of albums that are continuously DJ mixed and play straight through without any pauses between tracks, and I've been experiencing problems a lot now with random split second pauses between tracks and choppy transitions. These albums in question have been ripped from cd using the latest versions of iTunes.
    For example,
I'd be listening to an album and it would play gapless and smooth for most of the album, but maybe one or two transitions on the album would have a split second pause between them, and the rest of the album would play perfectly with no pauses, skips or jumps at all.
This only happens on my iPhone, as I have a 160gb iPod classic and I've listened to all the same albums on it and never has a problem playing the album without any pauses, every album plays 100% smooth and gapless on it.
I mailed Apple about it through their feedback page on their site... https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
Hoping that they would take note of this and try and look into it and fix the issue. That was probably about a year ago now, never got fixed or got any confirmation back from them about this problem. Then last August, I'd had enough and contacted Apple support to notify them about this issue. They told me the usual story, "have you tried restoring the phone?", which I obliged and did. The problem was there on a freshly restored iPhone 5.
So they told me that they would put me in touch with someone higher in Apple to take the case further, "great" I thought.
I spoke with a senior care advisor and explained the problem and agreed to send detailed explanations of the issue and test files too so that they could hopefully hear what I was talking about. But after a few weeks of going back and forward, I finally got them to hear the issue with the random pauses, the first week they denied there was a problem and said the files played ok on their test iOS devices, so I myself tried the files on another iOS device and the same problem was there.
The last correspondence I had with the Apple care advisor was back in the end of August / start of  September, and she told me that they spotted the issue and was told by the tech's that it would be fixed in a future update, I never got a when this would happen, I was just told to make sure my iOS device was up to date with the latest version of iOS. I couldn't speak to an actual technician, got no follow up support, just a vague "We'll look into it." Case Closed.
I got so sick of this problem that I sold my iPhone and iPad just after this last phone call with the Apple people, and switched over to Android. I'd being reading up on gapless playback music players and found out that there's a good few available for Android devices. I got myself a Sony Xperia Z3 Compact, twice as powerful as the iPhone 6 and half the price. I was using that for the last few months, and playing my music through Neutron Music Player app which is a great music player which plays gapless 100%
But I couldn't really take to Android OS, seeing as I've been using Apple products for around 10 years now and iOS since the iPhone 3G. So I decided to contact Apple again and see if they'd fixed the music player issue in iOS yet.
I wrote a long email explaining the problem, how it wasn't really looked at properly, and how I was a long time Apple customer and had to resort to switching over to Android because the basic music player functions on iOS devices have bugs. I took a chance in mailing this to Tim Cook's offices, I knew he wouldn't reply personally, just thought that it might get read by someone in his offices with a bit more say in the matter.
Just before Xmas, I got a call from someone from executive relations from my local Apple offices about this. He seemed nice and was aware of the problem from reading back through my emails and previous case notes from August when I opened this case originally.
We had a talk and he said he would get one of the tech's to call me too about this so that I could explain the bugs to someone more knowledgeable about iOS.
A few days later I received a call from one of the tech's at Apple and was chatting to him, explaining the problem. His response was that he thinks Apple doesn't support gapless playback on current iOS devices. From looking at the gapless playback information page on the Apple support site below, it looks like it hasn't been updated to show any iPhone models after the iPhone 3GS... http://support.apple.com/en-ie/HT201644
I was trying to explain to him how ridiculous this sounded, why would Apple stop supporting basic functions on their music player on iOS devices? It makes no sense at all? You can see that the amount of hardware devices and software that supports gapless playback today... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gapless_playback#Player_support
He couldn't explain either, he just said that because it's not listed there on the Apple support page.
Then the next day I got the follow up call from the Apple executive relations guy, he was stating that he was speaking to the tech guy that called me and it looks like Apple doesn't support gapless playback anymore, from looking at the documentation on site.
I told him how stupid this was, and how lots of music players have gapless playback as standard today. And if they don't support it now, then why does it play through some parts of the albums on iOS ok and then just randomly pause, or have jumpy / choppy transitions on the rest of the album. If it was the case, no albums would play gaplessly at all, it would be like when the first ever iPod's were released back in the day with no gapless playback and would pause for a split second between every transition.
He couldn't give me an answer and said that maybe down the line they would start supporting it again, and that I should request the feature to be added to future iOS versions via the iPhone feedback page... https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
He just kept on emphasising that it was "NOT A BUG OR ISSUE", trying to cover up the problem because the info on the site wasn't updated to show the current iOS devices. Which in itself is wrong, looking at the page it says "Supported iPod and iPhone models (make sure you have the latest iPod or iPhone software)"
iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS only go up to iOS 6, so that contradicts itself when the latest version is iOS 8.
The info is out of date and needs to be updated. So in August I was told, "we found the issue and will look into it" and a few months later, "it's not an issue", what's a cop out.
I was annoyed and taken back by this response, and really found it hard to believe that this was the case, Apple stopping supporting their music player on iOS devices. Seeing as iTunes plays everything smoothly and no gapless issues. I just went out and bought an iPhone 6 for €900 / $1060, and for that money you'd expect it's basic music player to work. It's total BS to think that a top computer software / hardware company would just decide to abandon basic functions in their devices, especially when we are talking about how much Apple takes pride in their products and how much more they charge for them over their competitors.
So this is my next step to try and get this problem seen and out in the open more. The more people who know about it and are aware of the issue, the better.
Hopefully more people can get the word around and get this noticed by Apple and finally fixed.
I've uploaded some test files below to show the problem. The files are mp3's and aac, and have been ripped from cd using the latest version of iTunes. The mp3's are the ones with the issue, but the aac play with no problem. If you listen to the transition at the end of track 2 (2-02 Colours (JH Re-Edit)) going into the start of track 3 (2-03 Your Body), you will notice the split second pause / jump. But listen to the aac version and compare it to the mp3 version and you will hear that it plays back fine, just as it's supposed to. Try them in iTunes too and both versions playback fine, no jumps or pauses.
You can download them here, all links have the same files, I just uploaded them to different hosts for other people's choosing...

More files can be provided if needed to show the problem happening on various other albums.
I really hope that people can spot this issue too and help get this fixed, I know this gapless playback feature might not be important to some people, but like I said at the start, it's an essential function for me in a music player and I use it on a daily basis when I listen to music.
Thanks for reading this long rant of mine, appreciate it.
    Ger

I believe this issue occurs only between songs that iTunes has converted to a lower bitrate for you during transfer to your iOS device and songs that it has not done this for. Take this Between the Buried and Me album, for instance. I have marked all of the transitions that should have been gapless but probably aren't in red. I know for sure that most of these marked transitions are indeed broken and that the most of the transitions not marked in red work flawlessly... I honestly can't remember whether or not some of these transitions were gapless or not, but the many transitions I do remember working or not working match up exactly with whether or not the songs on either side of the transition were also on other sides of the 256kbps threshold, the threshold at which I enabled iTunes to convert tracks to 256kbps AAC.
I'm going to try re-sync'ing my library with that "feature" disabled and see if it fixes my gapless playback problem. Will post the results once I test it out.

  • ITunes no longer plays song files in 5.1 - only in Stereo

    Greetings!
Unfortunately, since a few days ago, iTunes has stopped playing my songs in surround sound and is instead only using my front speakers currently, while I can play the very same songs in surround sound using a different audio player. I've tried the following to no avail (in no particular order):
    rebooted
    completely reinstalled iTunes
used a System Restore Point from before the problem occured
reinstalled the driver for my Sound card (Asus Xonar DSX)
set Speakers to 5.1 in in both the Xonar DSX Audio Center and under Windows/Playback/Speakers/Configure
disabled my Realtek HD Audio device in my BIOS
installed Quicktime and set Audio to 5.1 under Preferences
switched between Direct Sound/Windows Audio Session in iTunes' Preferences/Playback
removed and reinstalled my Audio devices in the Device Manager
plugged in/out my USB Headset (which I think might've been the cause of the problem, since it usually causes iTunes to go into Stereo mode until I restart the program)
    My specs are:
    Windows 7 64-bit
    iTunes 11.0.2.26
Asus Xonar DSX 7.1 Surround, latest driver
Teufel 5.1 Surround system (all speakers still work perfectly)
Sadly, nothing helped. And I'm sure iTunes can play the songs in surround, since it has been doing so ever since I first started using it (and it has been my go-to program to test my audio for troubleshooting up until now).
    Thanks for any replies!

Solved it on my own. The solution was to set my main Playback device in the Windows configuration to Stereo instead of 5.1 - which also set my Channels to 2 in my Asus Xonar DSX Audio Center, which I had set to 6 previously.

  • ITunes is reverting filenames on playback after i rename them

Hello all, in order to clarify exactly what's happening and to reduce incorrect solutions being suggested i have to go in detail, sorry for the length.
My issue is similar to what is described here Automatically Renaming Songs and here Itunes renames files when they're played. The annoying thing is that both those threads are locked and were never resolved anyhow.
I am using iTunes 12.0.1.26 in OSX Yosemite. iTunes uses 2 files to store database info "iTunes Library.itl" and "iTunes Library.xml" both act as backups to the other should either be corrupted.
My files are not being renamed because iTunes is grabbing info from the web, or any of the its checkboxes have permitted it to change files etc. It is changing the files using the information stored in "iTunes Library.itl" or "iTunes Library.xml" once it realises there are inconsistencies against the data within either of the those files.
Now i have tried to rename all my tracks from the filename using a script on Doug's Scripts called "File Rename" you can get it here (along with hundreds of other excellent scripts in case you didnt know  >> http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=filerenamer) which grabs a file and renames it in whichever format you specify using tags within iTunes (in my case [song] - [artist].extension) from its root location. Now the script works fine and renames the files. The issue is whenever i playback a track, it defaults the filename back to its original name held in either or the aforementioned files above.
I have asked my own programmer to even try and hack iTunes  and write me a custom script, which he did, and it worked.. however yet again, iTunes insists on renaming all the files back on playback or application relaunch. My programmer also noted that even after corrupting the iTunesLibrary.itl (which you must do in order to force iTunes to use info in the iTunesLibrary.xml file where his script actually affects the information) iTunes automatically rechecks its own tickboxes and begins renaming the files based on whichever sources it finds available (web, iTuneslibrary.itl etc).
There are reasons why i need to change each of my tracks filenames that i don't want to go into here, so please don't suggest otherwise. I also need to make the changes via iTunes in order to keep all the tags, ratings and comments that i have built up over the years and ensure the newly named files are linked to the correct record in the database file so i am kind of at the mercy of iTunes here.
If anyone know of a way to stop iTunes from doing this annoying rename then please let me know. It will be a dream for me to have consolidated all my songs in the format stated above and in organised from root level so that i can easily find and play them with or without the need of iTunes once i export my whole library to 1TB WD Passport drive in order to play at some professional gigs (i DJ in clubs etc.).
Many thanks in advanced for reading and any help you can offer!

The threads are locked because they are very old (date from 2009).  Anything in them would have been discussed under the context of the iTunes version at the time.
The .itl is not a backup for the .xml, nor the other way around.  The .xml is in a format that can be used by other applications but is only about 90% the content information of the .itl which is the primary library file.
I think despite what you say the files are being changed from the web. Something in purchased media (I am pretty sure this has only happened with purchased media) is periodically checking back with the iTunes Store and resetting the tags in the iTunes library file but not in the actual media files (metadata are stored in both).  I haven't seen a truly systematic diagnosis of the issue (I use an old iTunes and have no iTunes account so I can't test anything myself).  There are temporary workarounds but tags will still revert after a time.  I don't think this tag reverting has anything to do with checkboxes in preferences.  It does it because of the source of the file..

    If the above doesn't work:
2014 discussion about edited tags for Store purchases reverting to originals - https://discussions.apple.com/message/26077896#26077896 - edited tags are still present in the media file but revert to the originals in the iTunes library file.  Workaround is to refresh tags so media file tags are re-read and used in library file.

Send feedback to Apple about this so they know it is an issue they need to investigate:

Don't expect an immediate solution (and don't be too optimistic since this was already happening before iTunes 12 was released and no cure appeared in that release) but it adds one more voice to make them aware of the problem and maybe they will do something about it.

  • ITunes 7.0 ignoring "Remember playback position"

I've been encountering an issue where iTunes 7.0 is ignoring last marked playback position on files with "Remember playback position" set. The files in question are on my iPod. I can't put my finger on it, but I have for certain encountered this anomaly more than three times, with different files (all are mp3 podcasts from different sources). Instead of resuming playback where I left off, it begins playback starting at the beginning of the file.
Has anyone else been encountering this? If so, is there any workaround for this or should it be placed on top of the growing heap of iTunes 7.0 bugs?

So glad to at least find others that are having this problem. It's driving me crazy! I wish I had a fix, but even the Apple reps at MacWorld didn't have a solution.
This happened when I upgraded to iTunes 7. My "Remember Playback Position" is checked but greyed out.
Possibly related, when I first disconnect the iPod, the audiobooks show up inside the top level "Audiobooks" category. If I listen to one of them, then go listen to a song, then go back to the Audiobooks category, the books are now gone! I can get to them by browsing through Artists but it's definitely not the expected behavior.

  • How to fix stuttering song playback?

Over the past week, I began experiencing stuttering song playback in iTunes.  I tried to lower the sound enhancement settings to no avail.  Please help.  System:  XP Home, 32 bit.
Note:  Am using iTunes 10.7 because I had problems with missing tracks and error messages in the most recent version of iTunes.  Haven't had any other problems since the downgrade.

    Hello Ayanna R
Verify that you have done some of the other steps in the article below to resolve issues with audio playback. The only other advice I can give is updating iTunes.
