ITunes 7.02 and PodCast downloads
Since I have updated to 7.02 version, when a podcast is downloaded (from www.pomcast.com), it is greyed out and I can't read it.
If I quit and relaunch iTunes, the podcast isn't greyed out anymore but it is still unreadable. I must locate it in the Finder (Command-R from iTunes) and double-click it to have it recognized and read by iTunes!
I have had this problem too. This is what I think is happening....
When you upgrade to a new version of iTunes, it updates your library. While this is happening, if iTunes updates and downloads new podcasts, for some reason those show up grayed-out in the iTunes podcast playlist. Double-clicking on them won't play them.
The solution seems to be to find the file corresponding to that podcast in your music folder, and drag it out of there to, say, the desktop. Now delete that entry from your iTunes library (click on the title of that podcast episode and hit delete). Now do an Add to Library, and select that file. Assuming you have iTunes set to copy music to your music folder, it'll add that podcast and you should be able to play it.
The first time I encountered this error was with 7.0. For 7.0.1 I was smart enough to update podcasts BEFORE upgrading. I forgot for 7.0.2, and had this problem again. Apple really needs to fix this.

I am trying to download itunes to PC and it downloads but then says Service Apple Mobile Device failed to restart. Verify sufficient privileges to start system services. What do I need to do? I am an Administrator on the PC so what else needs attention?
Hi txatxo
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. You may need to restart the Apple Mobile Device Service. This article has instructions for doing this:
How to restart the Apple Mobile Device Service (AMDS) on Windows
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1567
If that doesn't resolve the issue, I would recommend trying a thorough uninstall and reinstall of iTunes as described here:

Unfortunately I have deleted my entire itunes library and back up from my computer, is there any way I can copy my ipod nano back onto my computer into the itunes library? and re-download all the tunes I have purchased from I tunes.
Hello bigali,
Your options are kinda limited. I would use this first:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and ...
Then check here for the non-purchased items:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2452022
You want to rebuild the library first, then sync the ipod.
Here is a good idea for when your done:
How to back up your media in iTunes
Hope this helps.

My routine for years: download all new episodes of all the podcasts I subscribe to (a pretty big list!). I then delete the new episodes that don't particularly interest me. But now, with iTunes 11.1, any podcast episodes that I delete will download again - and if I delete them, they download again. And so on. I don't mean they're just appearing in the list with the little cloud icon: I mean they're moving on to my computer. (Note that this only seems to be happening with podcast episodes that have been added since the update to 11.1 - thank goodness it's not happening to all of them!)
Probably related: if I want to keep a podcast episode, I've always just changed the tags to "Audiobook" or "Music", so I can get it out of the Podcast panes. But now, if I do that, the episode downloads again (despite the retagged version existing elsewhere in iTunes), and I delete it again, and back into that loop.
What seems to fix this: I can mark the redundantly downloaded episode as played, and then delete. This requires a lot of clicks with my current workflow: mark as played in the "Unplayed" list, at which point they of course disappear from the list; then find the episodes somewhere else (no longer easy with the obnoxious "Show us EVERYTHING!" podcast list view), and erase them once again. If need be, I guess I could set up a smart playlist to make this easier, but this looks like a pretty obnoxious kludge for something that used to be quite straightforward.
But am I missing something? How can I easily delete a podcast episode that I don't want, without it redownloading again later? For episodes that I want to retag and keep, is there a way to stop them from redownloading?
EDIT: Oops. No, I was wrong. If I mark it as played, and then delete it, the episode STILL comes back. It downloads yet again. What on earth am I doing wrong?!per your recommendation, I have sent the feedback below to apple...
For my Podcasts, I have exclusively used the "List" view to manage my podcast library... which one to download, save, or delete. The new update to iTunes has made the "List" view unusable in completing these tasks.
Can you address this issue? Right now my list view is filled with previously heard & deleted podcasts. I like to use this view rather than going to a different sheet for each podcast to which I've subscribed to manage.
Please help. Please revert the "List" view to be managed as before. Thank you.
Hopefully Apple will be responsive. -
ITunes 10.4 and podcasts
I downloaded iTunes 10.4 and now podcasts do not show up as an option under the Library (with Music, Apps, etc.) Can someone help me figure out what's going on? I downloaded it in Snow Leopard, and now in Lion, and the problem occurred in both versions.
Well, problem solved (I think). I went in and added podcasts to my library (under "Add to Library"), but it was anything but self-evident. And I'm still not sure why it disappeared in the first place. Sorry for a dumb question.

ITunes plays videos and podcasts when I click on music.
Hi all I have a problem.
when i click on music in the left menu. I notice when playign through my music set to randome that i get all media including podcasts, mpe books and other things that i woul dnot expect to be showing. I just want to randomly cycle through my music not listen to the books and podcasts etc.
is there a way to resove this issue.
OS: OSX 10.9.2, Mavericks
Itunes: 11.1.5 (s) 64-bit
Thanks for any ideas, tips, tricks and all you wish to share to help resolve this.
Edit: A good way to fix this would be able to select the type of media so it shows up in the right place. eg when importing or editing the album, file, cd podcast etc be able to select what type of media it is eg music, video, podcast, books and have the catogries show. only in what is selected. I have not come accross this feature.See:
iTunes: May be unable to transfer videos to iPhone, iPad, or iPod
iTunes: Frequently asked questions about viewing and syncing videos
You may need a computer app like the free HandBrake to convert the format to one compatible with the iPod. -
ITunes Backup, Music and Podcasts only
Dear Discussion members,
I would like to back up my iTunes Library. I have a read a few posts first but haven't quite found the answer I'm looking for.
I have a lot of podcasts and music on my internal drive.
I do have an external but don't want to back up there, instead I want to do the backup to DVDs (a bunch of them for sure)
I know there is the iTunes database file and from what I've read it may be worth backing that up but I am not sure how in the future I will merge the current database file with any current version. That's one question.
Aside from that what I want to do is backup my Podcasts. I know I can do this manually but I would like to do it through iTunes…is this possible and recommended over a manual backup?
In terms of songs, can it be done via iTunes as well?
Any and all feedback is welcome. IIf something is unclear please let me know and I will try to clarify as best I can.
Sincerely
AlexHi, Thanks for your post.
Problem being that there is a few thousand file
I am thinking that I should just re-import them but this does take a while and it may happen again.
Obviously isnt a known issue as such -
Itunes 4.7 and podcasts
I'm currently running 10.1.5 but i was previously running 10.3.
I have itunes 4.7 and I was wondering if there is another update for 10.1.5 because in the itunes window there isn't any suggestion that this version allows podcasts.
Also, I would like to know if I connect my ipod to my computer if the current podcasts I have on it will be erased.
LeahPodcast support wasn't added to iTunes until iTunes 4.9, which requires Mac OS X 10.28 or newer. The last version of iTunes for your OS version is available here.

When i open itunes it gives me an option for itunes U and podcasts download
Hello,
I just purchased an Iphone 5. When I open up Itunes, it gives me a screen that has two tabs at the bottom. One tab is for Itunes U and another is for Podcasts. When I click on either tab, it asks me to either download or open.
I downloaded itunes U and it still does it, so I deleted Itunes U.
Bottomline: I cannot access Itunes on my Iphone 5, although it shows the icon and its there. It keeps bringing me to the screen I mentioned above.
Please assist and thank you.
ChrisI am in the same boat. I tried repeatedly to contact iTunes support, but was told each time that I had contacted the wrong deaprtment and they could not help me. There must be a way to still be able to use the iTunes store without paying for a system update. If not, I hope they will reimburse me the money I have in my acount.

ITunes Locks Up After Podcast Download Was Canceled
I recently upgraded iTunes to Version 7.5. It seemed to work normally until tonight, when started to download a free podcast and then realized it was longer than I thought, so I canceled the download. iTunes then locked up, and I had to use Task Manager to get out of it. Since then, each time I have started iTunes, it starts normally but then quickly lists one download and locks up. I reinstalled iTunes, but it still does the same thing. I haven't been able to find a way to solve this problem. I believe this may be a bug in Version 7.5. I would appreciate any help that anyone can offer.
did you ever find a fix to the Podcast issue. I am now experiencing the same problem with my itunes

iTunes 11.3 is broke with podcasts. View lists is unusable. Why the eternal beach-ball? I have over 100 subscriptions with over 1000 podcasts in storage. Is this feature being discontinued with no notice? I require the ability to make playlists for iPod classic for podcasts. This is my modern day radio. I have 40, 000 songs all legally owned and paid for in full. iMac is less than one year old. Is Apple abandoning podcasts? Will they let users know? Why is Apple making it difficult to create a playlists with podcasts?

Back up all data.
Quit iTunes if it’s running.
Step 1
Hold down the option key and select
Go ▹ Library
from the Finder menu bar. Move the following items from the Library folder to the Trash, if they exist:
Application Support/SyncServices
Caches/com.apple.iTunes
Caches/QCCompositionRepository-com.apple.iTunes.cache
Containers/com.apple.BKAgentService
Saved Application State/com.apple.iTunes.savedState
Leave the Library folder open. Try iTunes again. If it works now, stop here. Close the Library folder.
Step 2
If you still have problems, quit iTunes again. Go back to the Finder and move the following item from the open Library folder to the Desktop:
iTunes
Note: you are not moving the iTunes application or the iTunes library. You’re moving a folder named “iTunes.”Test. If iTunes now works, delete the iTunes folder on the Desktop. Otherwise, quit iTunes again. Put back the folder you moved, overwriting the newer one that may have been created in its place, and continue.
Step 3
In the Preferences subfolder, there may be several files with names that begin as follows:
com.apple.iTunes
com.apple.mobile.iTunes
Move them all to the Desktop.
Also in the Preferences folder, there's a subfolder named "ByHost". Open it and do the same thing.
Test again. This time iTunes should perform normally, but your settings will be lost. You may be able to put back some of the files you moved to the Desktop in this step. Relaunch and test after each one. Eventually you should find one or more that causes iTunes to malfunction. Delete those files and recreate whatever settings they contained.
If the issue is still not resolved, quit iTunes again and put all the items you moved to the Desktop back where they were. You don’t need to replace the items you moved to the Trash. Stop here and post again.
If you later decide that you don’t like the results of steps 2 and 3, you can undo them completely by quitting iTunes and restoring the items you deleted in those steps from your backup. -
3GS can not update software on itunes update server and cannot download purchased APPs
I have an iphone 3GS and I dont seem to be able to download apps I purchase directly onto it. I thought I would try to do it through my itunes but it keeps trying to connect to the iphone software update server first which it cant seem to do
No. Updating software is across all users. About the only time that isn't true is if you installed a piece of software for only one user. But then that piece of software would never be available to the other user if it was made available it would be the updated version.

ITunes not working and new downloads not happening
Hello,
A few weeks ago, I performed system upgrade which included the new iTunes, Quicktime, and Security update. Afterwards, iTunes quit working; I got a message saying "could not open application because it does not exist" (maybe not exactly what it said). I tried removing iTunes, removing iTunes helper, restarting....here is where further problems started, because now my computer won't restart, shut down, or turn off unless I do it by holding down the power button. So I held down the power button to restart and now I can't open or empty the trash, the "about this mac" screen won't open, system preferences won't open, no downloads whatsoever will run or attach, and of course iTunes still won't work.
My music folder is still there with all my music, so I feel ok there / I'm just looking for any helpful advice on anything i can do...or if I should just go see a pro.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
ThanksPaul hello,
