Itunes 7.02 unstable?

Downloaded itunes 7.02(15), and installed. Freezing up while trying to load music to Ipods. Added 1 GB ram and installed OSX 10.4 upgrade, still freezing up. Re-installed itunes, still freezing up. Lots of posts about itunes 7.0 freezing up...is there a problem? Can I fix it? Is it a software conflict?
Thanks,
John

I to just got a new ipod nano 2nd gen. and I can not
use it. Windows gives me a message about (document
and setting/owner/local settings/temporary internet
files/content.IES/Y6PW7219 itunes setup [1].exe is
not valid Win32 application) what is going on. I
spend a lot of money for this ipod gadget and now I
can't use it. What's going on? Apple needs to get
help quick to people who spend money on their
product, we should be able to use it and/or they need
to send or give the CD so that we can install rather
than download. This is not a good thing.
A setup file on a CD rather than a downloaded setup file probably wouldn't make too much of a difference here. But, what type of Internet Connection do you have?
Apple does provide help for their products, but you need to ask for it first. If you don't, how would they know that you need help? This web site gives you the proper number to use to contact them.

As for the troubleshooting...
Make sure your Windows is up to date
Click Start -> All Programs -> Windows Update
Go to Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs
Uninstall all of the following:
Apple Software Update, iPod for Windows, iTunes, QuickTime
Then, go here and download and install the version of QuickTime that does NOT include iTunes
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
Then you can download and install iTunes

Post back if you have any further problems or questions

  • Upgraded to v 11.2.1 recently and iTunes has been unstable since then by not opening

I upgraded to iTunes 11.2.1 recently and since then iTunes mostly doesn't open or stay open.  Instead the ball of death spins around, and I can't do anything other than force quit.  Once in awhile it is stable, and I am able to play music, etc.  I tried upgrading to 11.2.2 but the problem remained the same.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.

  • ITunes displays incorrectly, unstable...

I just upgraded to 6.0, and now I'm having a strange display issue. See this screenshot:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v498/Peloria/itunesdisplay.jpg
Minimizing/Maximizing the window makes no difference. The upper menu is there (I can access it using ALT), but isn't visible. Also, if I switch from the mini player back to the full screen view, the entire program crashes.
Can anyone tell me what the problem is or how to fix?
    Thanks!

    well done, Heather!
What exactly was this plugin supposed to do? Just curious...
actually, i'm curious too ... the first inkling that i had that it even

  • ITunes with videos bad, Music & Regular! Crash, Black Screen, Tagging?

So i have been using iTunes for ages and have been collection Music's CD's longer and i got to load them to iTunes a while ago. Music works great in iTunes but with my CD's i often got music video's included so i tried to play them and some regular videos in iTunes and got the following problems and issues (Almost all the tested video files was optimised for iProducts (All MP4 format)) :
Can't use some of my music videos (mp4 format) in itunes but i can in Quicktime (Got black screen but good sound ). I have no idea how they coded iTunes but shouldn't they use the same codec's?.
iTunes have a tendency to crash if i play music videos in a row. (Like to use random in a music video list, calming in the background. i know it's kind of excessive but i like it).
Sometimes i need to play through a music video then reverse back to it to get a picture. (Sound works great tho) .
Laggy! Sometimes the sound get out of sync with video and vice versa. (Usually the beginning.  Has a tendency to catch up but not always, sometimes a middle lane in the video freezes.)
Can't you tag or sort video files better.? My computer sometimes crashes or get changed so i need to reinstall my media library from a backup. It would immensely help if i could ID3 tag media files the same way i can song so they automatically sort in to music video's, movies and Tv-series (media types!) without forcing me too change it in the advance tap at show more information. (This is off topic but i need this for audiobooks too (iTunes don't got my type of books so i am manually coping them from CD to MP3 format and transferring them to my iPhone))
So i'm a trial and error person so i worked a little bit with the problems when i had the time and  when finally got somewhere and had some real questions so i created this profile and wrote this post.
Please read the whole post before you go yelling: -Look at this!, Already Asked!, See this forum! It's your computer! I usually get to the point somewhere on this post. At the bottom of the post i have my current specs for my computer. So here comes the wall of text:
I started with this http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1718?viewlocale=en_US and http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1717 which is what you get if you search a bit in apple's support site. Tried all the things there. Disabled Direct3D, Tried Safe Mode On (Note: These two made the performance worse not better.), Checked display colour quality (Maxed), Turned on DMA, (A slight improvement still issues.) and finally got to ReadyBoost. I have all my media on an external drive (Aha you says!) and yes i finally figured out that iTunes can't handle files of that size from a regular external (Observe i do not have ReadyBoost on my 1T drive, It says it don't have the necessary performance). So i moved my video files to my internal drive and it significantly improved in problems 2,3,4 (Not gone!), Also noticed that i need to have as short pathway as possible (smaller improvements yet again!) (None of this shows in troubleshooting, Apple needs to read my post i think.)
I am now browsing web forums for a better suggestions on the problems and found that Apple either did not care about the problems or the members of this or other forums recommended other media player's to use for handling devices and media (MediaMonkey, doubleTwist and so on). Either as to further their own agenda or that they have giving up on iTunes as a media player for large number of media files. (Found a good media tagger, Magic MP3 Tagger, which worked wonders on some of my older albums with no or little information). So back to my problems or questions.
What can be the trouble with a mp4 format?
Tendency to crash, is iTunes really that unstable?
Play through music video to see picture. Really iTunes?
Laggy! don't know what more to say or fix. (iTunes take to long to buffer (got between 0-15 seconds delay after i come this far, better then before but not great)
Sort video files better. (Tags). The only format i know to date that instantly recognise what media type it is, some movie format and the ringtone format m3u  (Useful to know is that you can make your own ringtones by creating a ACC with a limited play time in advanced tab (max 30 seconds)  then change the last file ending of the ACC file now created to m3u. Viola! (Don’t forget to change back to the regular playtime on the original file) your custom created ring/smstone in workable and high quality, but i digress).
Sorry for the long read but i wanted to be as thorough as possible and please forgive any grammar and spelling problems. English is not my native tongue and the spelling checker did not work in my laptop (browser) on this website
Currently using (The one with iTunes and the external hard drive) (But have had two different computers before with same problem, 1 PC & 1 Mac):

This problem cropped up for me yesterday. I had just copied a new video to my iTunes library and was testing that it worked properly, but while the sound was playing, the screen was black.
Pausing/pressing the Play button resolves the issue, until I select a new video/movie to play, when I have to do it again.
I'm running MacOS X 10.6.6 and iTunes 10.1.1 (4). I tried reinstalling iTunes, with no luck. I also tried the old mainstay of replacing the Preferences file, but that also didn't help.
There is ONE new wrinkle to this situation. Yesterday, I had installed a new app named AirView to stream videos over AirPlay to my iPad. This works fine, but after this, the issue cropped up, suggesting an AirPlay issue.
I have two iMacs, so decided to try this situation on the Kitchen iMac and played a video on this other iMac just fine, video and sound. I then started up AirView on the iPad and initiated the video stream to the iPad from the Kitchen iMac. The movie played fine on the iPad. I quit AirView and went back to try the video on the Kitchen iMac, and yes, the video now failed to display until I reselected Computer from the AirPlay menu at the bottom of the screen, or used the pause/play solution, even though Computer was still selected as the default in the AirPlay menu. Doing this once seemed to be enough to resolve the issue for playing all videos on the Kitchen iMac, but not on the Office iMac.
The only other difference between iTunes on these two iMacs is that one (the Office iMac) is running its videos from a FireWire 800 attached 2TB hard drive, while the Kitchen iMac's contents are on the internal hard drive.
Deselecting the AirPlay option in Preferences/Devices to start videos correctly on the Office iMac is not a solution, since this iMac serves as our home server for our Apple TV.
Since I have a practical option, however, and since this issue doesn't affect playing videos remotely using AirPlay, this is now a buggy annoyance, but no longer a problem for me.

  • HT1373 How do I backup my itunes library to an external drive

My iTunes library is unstable.  I have two questions:
    1) How do I backup my iTunes library to an external drive?
    2) Why am I constatntly prompted to add my computer to iCloud when I have done so multiple times?
When opening iTunes, I receive he error message: "Please Sign In Again,  iTunes Match has encountered an error.  Please choose Sign Out and he Sign In from the iTunes Store menu and try again."
I tried downloading and installing/repairing the latest iTunes.  That did not correct the problem.
Also, I have sync'd to iCloud.  Every time I select iMatch from iTunes, I am prompted to Add This Computer to iCloud.  I have already done this multiple times.

    Hello cijackson,

  • ITunes 6.02 Not Opening "WHAT'S GOING ON APPLE"!!!

Sorry about the headline. Just like iTunes 6.01, iTunes 6.02 still doesnt open. Im getting tired of this, having to reinstall whenever I want to use it. I would have thought that Apple would have a fix by releasing iTunes 6.02, but I still see iTunes.exe always disapearing from the task manager. Does anyone have an answer/fix or an alternitive program to use beside using iTunes. Also I Do Not use Norton/McAfee. I have Service Pack 2 installed and use Firefox as my default browser no need for using Norton/McAfee for me. I'v tried Apple's advise of deleting the file in the "SC Info" folder still no fix there. Also tried installing QuickTime Standalone still with no luck.
I have a 30GB Video iPod that I bought recently (which is a great product by the way, but iTunes is so unstable).
Please if anyone has any solutions let me know. Thank You in advance.-Michael

    by releasing iTunes 6.02
It almost guarantied that you have been infected with spyware/viruses either now or in the past. This is not an Apple issue. They can not control how secure you PC is. Even if you have scanned and removed any Spyware or viruses the programs that get rid of Spyware/Viruses they just remove them. They do not undo the damage they cause. The only thing that is likely reliably resolves this is formatting your computer and re-installing windows.
You can try just re-installing iTunes with some extra steps but there is no guaranty it will work. Also this will remove all of your music data(Stars, play counts, etc.) and you will need to reload your music library when you are done.
    To re-install iTunes :
    - Uninstall all copies of iTunes.
    - Uninstall QuickTime.
    - Scan your PC with update Virus and Spyware software.
    - Reboot your PC.
    - Go to C:\Program Files\ and delete the iTunes folder if it is still there.
    - Go to C:\Program Files\ and delete the QuickTime folder if it is still there.
    - Go to C:\Program Files\ and delete the iPod folder if it is still there.
    - Go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ and rename the "Apple Computer" folder to "_Apple Computer"
    - Go to C:\Documents and Settings\<<Your User Name>>\Application Data\ and rename the "Apple Computer" folder to "_Apple Computer"
    - Go to My Documents > My Music > iTunes and move the iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music Library.xml files any where else. Do not delete them you may want to try to re-import them latter.
    - Now re-install iTunes.
If this still does not work you probably need to format your hard drive and completely reinstall Windows.

  • The Itunes Library File Cannot Be Saved. There Is Not Enough Memory Availab

    Hi Out there ...
I get the above error message. Have done for awhile now.
I can play the files I have 307248 songs. And the the Library File is saved OK.
However if I try to add more albums, then it stops with the above error. If I try to ad artwork to an album. Like highlight all the tracks in the album and then 'Get Info', once this open, then add the artwork. The I get the above error message.
If I try to add a whole album by dragging it unto Itunes, then I get the above error.
I can add a song at a time ... But I have another 30000 songs to add ... so it's a bit slow.
I use Vista 64 bit, 8 GB Ram, and the library file is saved on a 250 GB disk, which is only half full. My 8 GB of memory is about ½ used when I get the error message. In other words lots of memory left, lots of harddisk space, no errors on the harddisk ...
What can I do to ret it working agian??
Is there an alternative to Itunes which will import playlists, playcount ect??'
    Regards Leif.

    Hej Keji,
    Thank you for your suggestion.
Well in my case iTunes i just unstable all along these days. I'm looking for an alternative, one that is stable and one that can import the iTunes data files.
I think I may have a big library 'iTunes Libarary.itl' is 515000 and 'iTunes music library.xml' is 506000, this covers 312281 songs. However my computer is big too, the 1,50 TB files are on a raid of 5*500 GB disks, I have a dual core, and 8 GB of memory. So I can't really move the files around, so they are all in my music folder and then I add them manually.
Anyway iTunes just 'cant save', stopped working, hangs ... It's not any good It is only iTunes, the system stays up for days and other programs works.

  • ITunes 7- runs slow, makes ibook run slow

    hi,
ever since downloading itunes 7, i've been having a lot of issues with it and my ibook. my computer has been running insanely slow and itunes, if it decides to open at all, takes a few minutes to open. most of the time it just says "application not responding" and i have to force quit even though itunes never even opened. it's gotten to a point where my computer is pretty much unusable. can anyone help?
    thanks

Try to download iTunes 7.0.1 via Software Update. If iTunes is still unstable, then the best way IS to re-install the previous version. Most people are doing that.

  • Another 'itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close'

I know there is a lot of post regarding this. Before I reinstalled Windows XP Pro, i got it working with just installing stand alone iTunes 7.7 WITHOUT Quicktime. I have tried everything else on this site. I really do not want to delete anything from my iTunes.
Does anyone know a way of installing iTunes without Quicktime?
    Regards
    Danny.

Danny, I saw that you posted the following in another thread:
Faulting application itunes.exe, version 7.7.1.11, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault > address 0x08de1440.
It's strange that you're getting an error message where the faulting module is unknown. I would advise that you also go into the Event Viewer application and check the "Application" and "System" logs as they will likely contain additional information about the crash.
It's also possible that this could be caused by a bad interaction with anti-virus or other anti-malware security software running on your system. Did any of those applications happen to log anything at the time of the crash?
Here are some steps that Apple recommends you follow to troubleshoot problems with iTunes and QuickTime:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1421
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
Does anyone know a way of installing iTunes without Quicktime?
Modern versions of iTunes require QuickTime and it's likely that iTunes will be unstable without it. FYI, when iTunes 7.7.0 crashed on my system in the quicktime.qts module, the problem was due to a bug in iTunes, not QuickTime. Is QuickTime itself unstable on your system or are you just trying to conserve resources (or troubleshoot) by removing unneeded applications?
Lastly, was iTunes stable on your system prior to installing version 7.7.0 or version 7.7.1?

  • Can't play any CD's or burn any either

I have looked for a similar question to mine but nothing fits exactly so here goes. I have had a problem burning cd's for some time and have turned the burn speed to the slowest. It starts to do the job, stops, spits my cd out which is then unusable and goes in the bin, hence I have stopped even trying!
Now it has got very awkward and will not play any cds I put in although it will play other people's burnt cds. They do not show on the bar or the desktop that they are in there or obviously in itunes. It then spits it out! I can play DVD's, and I can read disks with photos on but it wouldn't play the disk with the drivers on for my new printer. My son wants an ipod for Christmas which is now concerning me somewhat as itunes seems so unstable. I have downloaded the latest version but that didn't make any difference. Help anybody...please!!

Thanks for replying. I have tried with a different user account but that didn't make any difference. To be honest I don't even know how to look for 3rd party itunes plug-ins - and your other suggestion about other software but after having spent a lot of time looking at this yesterday I seem to be suffering the same problems as people who think they need a new superdrive. It's all getting a bit scary and I only want to play and burn cds!! Thanks again for responding.

  • Problems with Lion and .pkg files.

After the upgrade to Lion, i've a problem to install .pkg files. If i try to open it with double click, terminal window starts and cursor waits for commands! With Leopard the installer program started after double click on .pkg files, but with Lion "installer" seems to be disappeared.
Same happens with some apps, when clicking they don't install, but terminal window starts...
    How to fix this problem?

    Apologies for the misspellings.
Basically i have tried uploading my MP3 files (one by one) in my device. then i tried uploading films. then when i disconnected my device all my songs on the device is gone. i do not know what happened exactly.
it would seem the current iTunes version is "unstable". having uploaded 50 songs, doing them one by one only to find out out it got wiped out in the device for some reason.
    any explanation for this?

  • Problems with Syncing motorola L6

Recently I've got a Motorola L6 phone. First syncing seemed to work fine, nothing to say about the contacts, but something strange happened with the way the items from iCal got synced on the phone:
All the items appeared on the phone as they where once (long ago) introduced on the computer, and not in the way they where at the moment I synced. For example, an appointment placed originally at 8:00, sort to say, and later changed to 10:00, appeared on the phone at 8:00. And so on.
Besides that, after that first syncing any new sync I have attempted does not seem to move anything at all, although the iSync window makes all the showing off as if everything was working.
    Can I get some help?

The latest version of iTunes (10.5.2.11) is unstable in Windows 7, 64-bit. That is, If I close it, I cannot start it again without rebooting (very bad). Any tips? Or just live with it until another update?

iTunes issues?  All software has issues.
It's possible that there is an iTunes issue creating the problems you report.  It's possible there is a Windows issue causing the problem.
Does your system have all the current Windows updates installed?
