ITunes 7.1.1.5 Installation unable to remove QuickTime 7.0.4

In Dec,2005, I received a security update to Quicktime which brought me to version 7.0.4. While installing the software for a new ipod, I received the error message "The older version of QuickTime cannot be removed....." and I've been unable to get rid of it. I've tried uninstall (failed) and to manually uninstall it(failed). Now I'm at a dead end.
Can someone give me any suggestions.

I'm having the same problem. Annoying. The ordinary "uninstall" of quicktime in "my computer" would not work for some reason so I manually deleted every quicktime file and still get the same message ... "unable to remove old version of quicktime".

And, of course, on startup, a window opens with the error and tells me find QTMovie.dll and delete it because this may be the source of the hangup. Also, in trying to delete iTunes, I get the additional message that I must get approval from the System Administrator to take this action. I am the System Administrator.
Any ideas would be welcomed.

ITunes encountered a problem after installation

Hello,
Until 2 days ago, iTunes was working fine. Now when clicking on the iTunes icons, a screen comes up saying "iTunes has encounted a problem and needs to close." And gives the option to send an error report to Microsoft.
We have tried un-installing iTunes & re-installing a few times. Un-installed QuickTime & Reinstalled it, etc. Is there anything else we can try?

If you are unable to uninstall Quicktime from within add remove programs, and receive an error that state something to the effect...
Quicktime cannot be uninstalled because C:\<some directory path>\uninstall.log cannot be found
Just download and install the StandAlone Installer or locate the C:\Windows\system32\quicktime folder and delete it....only do this as a very last resort, but after a reboot, you should be able to use add remove programs

ITunes 6.0.1.3 installation problem with Win XP Pro

I am trying to install the newest version of iTunes on my laptop which runs Windows XP Pro. I have installed SP 2 and have all windows updates installed. The iTunes installation process has removed my old version of iTunes and appears to install the new version. I get a grey box on my desktop when it is installing (as if it is going to become the iTunes icon), but the box always disappears at the end of the installation process when the process is in the step of "Publishing product information". After installation completes I have no iTunes and there is no iTunes folder in my Program Files folder! I never get any error message, just no program. I have disabled my anti-virus software and attempted to install again and the same thing happens. Any suggestions?

try this, it worked for me:
1) first of all, uninstall QuickTime and older versions of iTunes from your PC, using the "remove" button in the "install applications" tool that you find in the windows control panel.
2) reboot the system
3) turn off the windows firewall application; go into the windows control panel, double click on windows firewall and disable the firewall option
4) if you have one, disable your Anti-Virus application; i mean its real-time protection.
5) probably it's not necessary, but for being sure... download and launch the standalone installer of QuickTime (latest version)
6) download and launch the iTunes + QuickTime installer from this web address
7) as an option, i suggest you to download and install also iTunes Art Importer. It's a nice application, that allows you to import from the internet directly into iTunes the album ArtWorks of the selected tracks in iTunes. I installed it, and it works very well with iTunes 6.
8) after all the installations, remember to enable both firewall and anti-virus previously disabled!
as i said, probably the 5th passage is not necessary, but i did it and it worked!

I am need of help! I have had this issue for a while now and it's becoming frustrating.
My iTunes installed on my HP Windows 8 Netbook is unable to recognize my iPod, the error message along the lines of "iTunes has detected an iPod but unable to recognise"

Repair youe Apple Software Update.
Go to START/ALL PROGRAMS/Apple Software Update. If it offers you a newer version of Apple Software Update, do it but Deselect any other software offered at the same time. Once done, try another iTunes install.
If you don't find ASU in All Programs, go to Control Panel, Add & Remove Programs.
