ITunes 7.1.1 skips forward (not repeating)

I have a high end machine (dual core, lots of RAM, 10,000 rpm RAID 1 hard disks, etc). On this machine, when doing nothing else (or when doing a lot), iTunes 7 will skip forward at times.
Note: this is not the old kind of skipping where a piece of the music will be repeated a few times. That kind of skipping is usually caused by badly behaved hardware devices, being low on memory, etc. This is something different.
When playing a song (I use MP3 exclusively, and the data storage is on a network drive), every once in a while, iTunes will skip a little bit of the music - skipping forward. It sounds to me as if they decide to transfer twice the amount of data in a single buffer (overwriting one with the other). This has happened both in iTunes 7.1.1 and the previous version, but did not happen in iTunes 6.x.
How can I fix this?

Such a pesky problem that is! Anyway, start with looking over this: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
I would look to see if Quicktime opens and works before you do anything because iTunes will not work without Quicktime. Quicktime may be broken. If so, you can download the Quicktime stand alone player.
I would use the Windows Clean Up Installer Utility to remove all references of iTunes and Quicktime on your PC. You can read about it and install it from here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
I would also run a full spyware scan because certain versions of malware has been known to cause this issue that you have. If you don't have such a program, I would go get AVG Free anti-spyware. It's free and catches that spyware program and removes it.
Then I would try the install again, but save it to your hard drive and install it from there instead of running it over the net. Sometimes turning OFF your antivirus and spyware programs first helps. Sometimes they like to silently interfere with the successful download and install of iTunes believing its some sort of suspicious material. Keep me posted on your progress.

Let's try a repair install of iTunes first.
Restart the PC. If you're using Vista or 7, now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "iTunes" and then click "Repair". If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "iTunes", click "Change" and then click "Repair".

    Hello, bisco,
This forum is for questions from people who administer iTunes U sites. You'll be most likely to get help with this issue if you ask in the iTunes or iPod forums.

  • I cannot watch any TV shows on Itunes. The episode will play for a few seconds and then freeze and skip forward randomly. I have a Windows 7 PC and I didn't have problems before the Itunes 11 update. Any ideas?

After updating to ITunes 11 a while back, I am no longer able to watch TV shows on my laptop. If I try to watch an episode, it freezes and then skips forward randomly. I have a Windows 7 laptop and I didn't have any problems before ITunes 11.

I don't use a graphics card, I use on board graphics as my computer case is too small to fit a graphics card inside.
There are no effects applied to the clip, only one layer of video and 1 layer of audio (both from the same file). The video is in MP4 format at 720p.
Before I rendered the sequence, I had a yellow bar above the sequence. Also, I imported the same clip into CC Standard and it played fine (also had a yellow bar) with no lag.
I think I've fixed the issue now as rendering the sequence made the video play smoothly with no apparent issues.
If any other clips have lag or any other problems in CC 2014, I'll just import them into CC standard and see if that works.

  • Skip forward/back function

Anyone else got a problem with the 'skip forward/back' function on the youview remote since the last upgrade? Sometimes if I'm watching a recording and press the 'skip forward' button once, the recording skips forward 1 minute and then keeps on skipping repeatedly until it reaches the end of the recording. The same thing happens if I press the 'skip back' button, except it repeatedly skips back in 15 second intervals, again until the beginning of the recording. And no, the buttons are not sticking down! The only way I can find to stop it is to press the 'stop' button, and then scroll back to the appropriate point in the recording and start again, very annoying. The problem does not occur on every occassion, but certainly more than 50% of the time. If you press the 'skip forward' button on a live programme (although I'm not sure why you would want to, I just tried it as an experiment), the box just keeps repeating the last couple of seconds of the programme adinfinitum, when the problem is not present the programme pauses for a second and then continues.

Just seen this reply from the official YouView rep
"Our development team have just found the problem, and have sent the software changes to Humax and Huawei.  Unfortunately, we're right in the middle of a development cycle so we won't be able to send out an update for a couple of months.   Sorry it's not better news on the timing."

  • ITunes 6.0.1 skipping

iTunes 6.0.1 skips while playing back .mp3 and .m4a files on my G4 800DP, which is running OS X 10.3.9. The skips are tiny gaps in playback that can sound like scratches on a vinyl record. Playback was smooth before upgrading and is perfectly smooth on other computers using older versions of iTunes.
Is this a common problem, and if so, how can it be addressed?
If this cannot be fixed, how do I revert to an older version of iTunes?
    Thanks!

There seem to be several programs that do not like Quicktime 7. Apple has a Quicktime 7.0.1 reinstaller to remove 7.0.3 you can download and run to go back:

You can remove 7.0.1 and go back to 6.5.2:

  • After doing a suggested update of itunes on my pc it will not open and gives me a msg saying msvcr80.dll is not on my computer and windows error 126 has occured

After doing an update of itunes on my pc Itunes will no longer open and gives me a msg about MSVCR80.dll not on my computer and Itunes was installed incorrectly error 7 (windows error 126)

This happened to me today as well post installing the latest version of itunes.   I did a search on google for the error and came across a recommendation to :
Note: Start Windows in Safe Mode to complete any of the following steps if you're unable to access Windows normally due to the msvcr80.dll error.
If, and only if, you're receiving the msvcr80.dll is missing error when you open Apple iTunes, do the following: (skip this step if your msvcr80.dll error is occurring with a different program)
Uninstall from Windows the following five programs in this order: iTunes, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour, and finally Apple Application Support. If you have iCloud, remove it as well.
Uninstalling these programs in Windows is done from an applet in Control Panel called Programs & Features (in Windows 8, 7, or Vista) or Add or Remove Programs (in Windows XP).
Note: Songs and playlists in iTunes will not be removed when you uninstall the iTunes program or any of the other, already-mentioned Apple programs. If you'd still like to back them up, they're usually located in the My Music folder in Windows.
Download the latest version of iTunes from Appleand note the location you're saving it to so you can find it once it's done.
Run the iTunes installation as an administrator. If you're not sure how to do that, see How Do I Open an Elevated Command Prompt? for help. That procedure shows you how to open the Command Prompt program as an administrator, but the steps are essentially the same for anything, including the iTunes installation package you just downloaded.
A general overview of removing and reinstalling iTunes can also be found here on Apple's site but the above procedure seems to work better in this particular situation.

  • After upgrading to 11.1.2 (31), 'Pause' skips forward a second

    Hi, Apple Community!
I'm a journalist, so I spend a lot of my day transcribing. I record either on my iPhone, or with a Belkin dictaphone attachment for a beaten-up old iPod, and then import the file into iTunes. From there, I can manually transcribe the audio into text by listening to a phrase, hitting 'play/pause' on the keyboard, typing it out, then moving onto the next.
But since upgrading to Mavericks - and iTunes 11.1.2 (31), pausing causes the track to skip forward a little over a second. It might seem like a little thing, but this means I miss one or two words and have to rewind the audio every time. It makes what's already a pretty irritiating task another degree more irritating.
How can I fix this? Or can Apple fix this? It's doing my head in!
    Thanks, Wondergeeks!
    Tim

It's a bummer. As an interim fix, however, I've found that VLC plays and pauses perfectly well without skipping forward - and has the added bonus of being able to slow down playback speed.

  • ITunes TV show Season Pass is NOT downloading newly available episodes

Problem: iTunes TV show Season Pass is NOT downloading newly available episodes even though new content is fully available on iTunes Store for purchase as single episodes
I purchased Season 4 of The Vampire Diaries on Thursday 10/11.  The 1st episode, called "Growing Pains," aired on the evening of Thursday 10/11 and has been available since approx. 2 am EST Friday 10/12 for purchase/download on the iTunes Store, but it is NOT automatically downloading to my iTunes account even though I repeatedly click "Check for Available Downloads."  The button to purchase the single episode in the iTunes Store is activated, meaning anyone can purchase that individual episode for $2.99, but I paid for the whole Season Pass and I can't retrieve this single episode.
My iTunes is NOT recognizing that there is an Episode 1 available for download.  I rebooted my Mac, restarted iTunes, logged into the iTunes store to click on "Purchased" content and try to force a download, all to no avail -- the screen listing the episodes available for download under my Purchased account fails to list Episode 1 of this TV show.  It as though this Episode is invisible to my iTunes account/download queue.  Yet, Episode 1 is sitting on the iTunes Store server and has been there for the past day.
I have clearly identified this problem to Apple Customer Service and they did not seem to intially understand my problem.  They told me that it takes a few days for TV networks to make an episode available to the iTunes store, and therefore I should wait for a few days -- this totally misses the issue!  The premiere episode has already been provided by the TV network to iTunes, and is available now on the iTunes Store.  The problem is a technological server-side one, where for some reason my iTunes download queue is not picking up on the fact that there is new, pre-paid content available for download.
Please help if you experienced similar issues with your Season Pass.  I bought a Season Pass for last year and it worked without any problems -- all episodes aired on Thursday nights and were downloaded by 2 or 3 am Friday morning.  I am thinking of cancelling/refunding the Season Pass, and just paying for Hulu+ instead of waiting around hoping for Customer Service to finally read my email and DO something instead of telling me to "wait a few days."
Below is my email thread with Customer Service.  I can't believe there is no longer phone support to talk to a live person, who should be able to reset my download queue -- or do something on the server-side -- easily.

Hello [     ], I apologized for any inconvenience this issue has caused. I reviewed your account and it appears that episode is not yet posted on your account. This is the reason why it has not automatically downloaded on your account. With that being said, please try to wait for a few days or try to download the episode using iTunes in the Cloud feature. Your patience in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.  The problem is, this Episode "Growing Pains" IS already available
on iTunes for individual purchase for $2.99, and has been available since 2
am EST last night.  The issue isn't its availability from the TV network --
it's the Season Pass queue for downloads not recognizing that this episode
    should be downloaded.

    Hi,
I'm having the same problem on Windows and Mac, neither automatically download episodes from any of my season passes, nor do they find it when I select "Check for available downloads,"  it informs me all episodes have been downloaded for my Apple ID, which in fact they have not.
I have to find the episode in my Library(which shows all available episodes on my computer and in the iTunes Store) and from there I have to manually click to download.  I tried deauthorizing all my computers and reauthorizing just one computer, and that didn't work either.  I also deleted my other device(iPad) from the "iTunes in the Cloud" just in case there was some issue associated with that, and that didn't work either.
It’s sad that the iTunes rep didn't really "listen" to what you said.  I find this happens at many other companies too.  They often are trying to fit your problem into some prepared script or solution, or they are distracted or in a hurry and don't actually read or listen fully to an even well defined account of the problem.
Best of luck to us all!  Hope they fixed it soon.

  • Why does my itunes keep making songs skip in the middle of playback?

I have just got a new laptop HP DV6157EA laptop and when i try to play tracks on itunes it will sometimes skip the track every 3 seconds or so.I have made sure that the computer isnt running anything else when im playing my track and the same thing still occurs. I have also tried deleting the tracks and reimporting the cd.Does anyone know how to rectify this problem? (should have stuck with a macbook!)

Not a computer issue but a itunes issue.
I tried this and it helped.
To get to the Task Manager go:
CtrlAltDel then "Task Manager" then go to the "Processes" tab.
Locate "iTunes.exe" Right-Mouse click to "Set Priority" then choose "High".
    Hope that helps.
still skips if I move mouse.

  • How Can Viewers skip forward and backward between timelines!?

You can skip forward and backward through chapters that are on the same timeline but I can't skip backward to a timeline that came before the one I'm on.  I thought this was an easy question someone must know the answer to this.  I just need to check what I'm saying.
    So I have 4 timelines
I put chapter markers at the end of each timeline so that people could skip forward to the next timeline if they wanted to.  If there was no chapter marker at the end of the timeline then the timeline would have to be played to completion before going to the next.  You would not be able to skip forward at all.  The problem I'm having is that you cannot go backward to the timeline that came before.
So if I have a chapter at the end viewers are able to skip forward to the next timeline but they can't skip back.
Alright so Menu Remote settings do not work for Blu-ray discs either so you cannot use that setting to go backward from one timeline to the previous.
Is there anywhere to set that the first chapter of one timeline can somehow link back to the last chapter in a previous timeline or is it just impossible to go backward?
Isn't there anyone who knows how to skip backward from one timeline to the previous?  I cannot find a action for this in encore.

  • ITunes Plus files are skipped

I've updated most of my iTunes purchases to iTunes plus and I saw the same long processing time that others saw. Mine all finished OK though. However some of them now will not play in iTunes and are just skipped over.
Strangely they will play in Quicktime and also in Get info->preview.
I also found that if I skipped the first second of the file (using iTunes->Get info->options) then the file played. Weird! Support let me download again and the latest copies were exactly the same. In the end they gave me a credit.
Anyone else having these problems? I had about 7 files out of maybe 30 or 40 gop bad. They were a variety of artists.
    JohnK

My guess is that in the rush to get all the millions of tracks re-encoded, the record companies delivered some bad ones. Probably not surprising given the massive number of tracks involved. Even prior to the big iTunes Plus conversion, a bad track (or several) would appear from time to time. I would hope that at least the majority of tracks with problems will be replaced over the next several weeks. I'd suggest waiting a few weeks before you attempt to re-purchase these particular tracks, should you wish to, to allow time for them to, we hope, be replaced with good copies.

  • Videos will not repeat

    Hi,
I have all of my music videos on a playlist called Videos. With previous versions of iTunes, while playing in full screen or just in the now playing box, when one video would end, another one would begin playing. Now when I play videos in my playlist or Apples video list, when one ends, it just ends and nothing plays after it. I have shuffle and repeat all enabled. This is annoying because I cannot just relax and play a bunch of videos - now I have to manually begin them one at a time. Also, if I don't play a video all the way to the end, the next time it starts up it begins where I left off the time before. Any ideas on how to fix this?
    Thanks.

How did you do this? I have a separate video playlist - not repeating, made another - not repeating either, removed all my videos from library and then re-added them, still won't repeat. I have repeat all and shuffle enabled. I cannot even use the next song arrow to move to another video - it just pauses the one I was playing. I have to manually click on another selection to make it play and then it stops and nothing plays when it is over, This is driving me crazy. If I play a video in the main library, an audio song will play after a video. Any ideas on how to fix this?
