ITunes 7.1 and Vista

Have brand new HP pc with Vista factory installed with 4 gig ram, 1 terabyte hard disk, duoCore Intel Processor.
The new iTunes crashes Vista often all the way to a blue screen of death and trashes it's own database. Using the little widget that shows CPU usage, iTunes when it runs, by itself consumes 70-90% of the processor time (I think its the search function in idle). Love iTunes but it just doesn't play nice with Vista still!

wow! Thats a beast of a PC. I am jealous! This may help you out some:

iTunes and Vista haven't been playing nicely together. It should works itself out with the next iTunes update.
Good Luck,

  • Only .m4v files crash computer in iTunes 7.2 and Vista

I am running Windows Vista and iTunes 7.2. The computer will crash constantly if I try to do anything to Library or sync to iPod, but ONLY if it involves a .m4v (video) file. If I remove those files, everything in iTunes and Vista work great. Introduce a .m4v file into it, and you get a blue sreen crash. What am I missing here? Is there an incompatability with iTunes 7.2 and Vista when working with .m4v files, or is there an update, or a plug-in needed? I can't find any info on this topic.
    Thanks!

Are the m4v files stored on a SATA drive on your system?

  • Authorization Problems with iTunes 7.1 and Vista

I'm running Windows Vista Business edition. Any time I try to play a purchased song, I get prompted that "you've already got 5 computers authorized to play this", but when I check my actual account settings, it says I've only got 3 computers our of 5 authorized (which is correct). I've tried updating to the latest version of iTunes (7.1) and it didn't help. I tried to run the "fix the seurity permissions issue in Vista" application that Apple released and it doesn't even appear to run (gives me the EULA, I hit 'accept' and it just closes the window).
Iv'e checked all of the standard issues that I've seen bandied about. Yes, I'm using my administrator account (my only account on the machine is my admin acct.). I've tried right clicking and launching it as an admin (just in case..)...no change. Songs that I have purchased since upgrading to Vista work just fine and will play. Anything purchased before the upgrade WILL NOT WORK.
I'm just kind of frustrated as other people have mentioned as well. I've got many many songs that I cannot listen to at all due to this issue. Plus to be honest, I'm afraid to plug in my iPod to update it. I don't want it to "update" and then all of a sudden I can't even play the songs from the iPod either. If anyone has any ideas, I would really appreciate it as it is getting a bit tiring.
    Thanks in advance.

Hey there - It sounds like you have songs from more than one account in your library.
When you try to play a song that needs to be authorized it'll have the account ID that it was purchased with listed in the pop-up window (where you enter your password).
This is the important part: Make sure that the account ID that the song asks you for is the ID that you login to the iTunes store with when you check how many authorizations you have left.
    Hope this helps!

  • ITunes 7.7 and Vista

    Hi,
just moved my library to a Vista computer. I used backup/restore and it went well, however I had more than 1000 Podcasts before and deleted them for the move. Now I want to put them back and Vista is shutting iTunes down, whenver it "touches" Harvard Business Ideacast Episode 1.Itunes is performing "Analysis ... to adjust volume" and if I cancel it before it starts iTunes works, if I let it go it get's shut down by Vista with the message to upgrade iTunes to a newer version (not possible - it's the latest!)

It tells me to do the same thing when I try to download the songs I just bought from the iTunes store! I started having problems AFTER downloading v7.7!!! Help us apple, something is wrong.

  • Itunes 3g iphone and vista sync

I have a 3G iphone, Vaio with Vista Home, and the very latest Itunes.
I don't sync my ipod with this itunes and keep it unique for the iphone.
I sync calendat and contacts with outlook which works fine but it doesn't seem to see the phone as an ipod and every time I sync the music (which I have to do manually) it blows the itunes library away and despite searching, the only way I can get back to where I was with my itunes loaded, is to re-add the music folder and then it does all the artwork thing again, plus convert the odd wma etc.. It's an absolute pain in the ..

Roaminggnome - I understand what you're saying - however Mobile Me is great if you want to PAY for that.
I have just bought an iPhone (and here in Australia it ain't nowhere near the paltry $199 you guys in the US get to buy it for - try $700!!) and yet Apple now wants another $120 just so that I can use THEIR 'wireless' system.
I just want to be like StreetScience (within reason that is - sorry dude) and sit at my desk with my Powerbook in front of me, my iPhone to my left and NOT have to pay extra just to be able to 'wirelessly' sync any changes that I might make.
Sorry if that kinda makes me sound cheap - but if all the other smart phones out there can do it without being held to ransom by their manufacturer then why can't Apple allow us to do that too.
Or am I just being too 'needy'?

  • Itunes 8.2 and Vista 64bit

    Hello everyone,
I searched the forums and didn't see a definitive answer for the problem I am experiencing. Last Saturday I deciding to upgrade my Ipod Touch 1st Gen to 3.0. So I installed upgraded to itunes to 8.2 (64 bit installer) and lo and behold my ipod would not show up in itunes anymore. My PC still recognized my ipod as I could see it in My Computer. So I downgraded to 8.1, fired up itunes and it was back. I upgraded to 3.0 from there (it let me upgrade for some reason). After the upgrade I knew I was going to have to have itunes 8.2 to use my ipod. So just to check I fired up itunes 8.1 and got a message telling me that I had to have a newer version of itunes. So I upgraded once again to 8.2 and once again no ipod. PC still sees the ipod though. So now I am stuck, I tried to upgrade the apple mobile device drivers but am told by windows that I have the latest version. Anyone else experiencing this? Any solutions? I was able to sync my ipod to itunes 8.2 running on 32bit XP so at least I got my music back.

[UPDATE] Finally got it working. I was looking around in Device Manager and found the Apple Mobile Device USB driver. Uninstalled it. Once I did that even Share Pod stopped working. Uninstalled 8.2 and reinstalled 8.0.2, rebooted and noticed that the Apple Mobile Device USB driver did not come back. So I figured that was the culprit. Looked around in Programs and Features and found Apple Mobile Device Support, uninstalled it as well as 8.0.2 and rebooted. Once back into windows I unplugged my Ipod deleted my iTunes folder in my music folder and reinstalled 8.2. The Apple Mobile Device driver was back. So thinking I had fixed the problem I plugged my iPod back in and started iTunes. Nothing. So I unplugged my ipod and went into services (Start -> Services.msc) and stopped the Apple Mobile Device Service as well as the iPod Service. Unplugged my iPod, started iTunes plugged my iPod in and got a message from iTunes saying that my iPod couldn't be used because the Apple Mobile Device Service was not started. Aha! I was getting somewhere now. Itunes was definitely seeing the iPod but just didn't want to connect to it. So once again I shut down iTunes, unplugged my iPod, started the Apple Mobile Device and left the iPod service shut off, Fired up iTunes plugged in my iPod and still nothing. So the last thing I did was to go back into services (leaving iTunes running this time) and restarted the Apple Mobile Device service (right click, restart) and Viola! it showed up. I hope this helps some of you experiencing the same issues I have. Good Luck!

  • ITunes 10.5 and Vista - will not run

Well, I upgraded to 10.5 on my Vista 32 bit system. iTunes installs but simply is not responsive after starting up. Even more curious, it prevents Internet access until I reboot the machine. The Internet connection is fine -20 Mbps otherwise.
I did a complete uninstall and re-install following the Apple support page. same outcome.
No clue what to do.  No clue.

    Hello Everyone
I had almost every problem that is listed on this fourm trying to install Itunes 10.5
Here is the way I found to get it installed
I had to do this on two computers
I Downloaded Itunes 9.0.3 and installed it.
    That went fine, everything ok.
Next I Downloaded Itunes 10.3.1 and installed it.
    That went fine. everything ok.
Then I had Itunes check for Updates
It downloaded Quicktime then Itunes 10.5 then Safari
    Everything loaded without a hitch
Now I have Itunes running and have updated my Iphone 4 and Ipad
    No Problems at all.
I think that the loading of Itunes 9.0,3 cleared up the bad files.
    Good Luck
    Jim

  • ITunes 7.6 and Vista 32 bit - Songs in iTunes won't start to play

I have songs loaded into my iTunes Library but when I click them to play, they won't start. I didn't have this problem at first, but now I do.
I loaded about 20 iTunes songs and played them, but now they won't start and I can't load any more songs. Also, the mp3 files on a CD won't start either.
Running MS Vista 32 bit, iTunes 7.6, with an E-MU 0404 external audio card (usb 2.0).

    B Noir-
Thanks for the reply. What exactly does that command exactly do? Very strange what is going on. Like I said earlier my computer is authorized yet I am still getting the screen below when I try to open a TV show I've purchased. Itunes is already open so not sure why I am being asked to open it again. When I do click on open Itunes, I get another screen that says waiting for Itunes to authorize.... I wait like 5 minutes and then it says not able to contact Itunes and to make sure I have Itunes 4 or greater.
    HELP!

WOW! That font is difficult to read. But, see if this support document helps you http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3989. Photos stream is based on date and photos more than 30 days old are removed. Photostream is designed as a temporary storage to allow you to download the photos to the computer.

  • Share iTunes library between Leopard and Vista, over LAN

    Hi,
I would like to share my iTunes library on my Mac, so that our other Vista computer can access it.
I have ticked 'Look for shared libraries' on both the Mac and PC. We use a LAN setup with a firewalled router. I am able to access the Mac's public folder from the Vista PC and vice versa.
Except, the Mac library is not present in iTunes on PC. I used the latest iTunes on both computers.
Is there something that I am missing, maybe a port that I have to forward or anything else? Also, do I have to enable another kind of sharing on the Mac, except Sharing in iTunes?
Can someone please give me some advice?
    Regards

Just for your info, Vista ***** whatever you try to do. I'm stuck with Vista on a pre-installed laptop. All experience I have from Vista is bad, don't buy Vista or a computer with preinstalled Vista if you can avoid it.
We have three computers in a home network, one Macbook Pro, one PC with Windows XP, and the Vista laptop. All are using iTunes-8, downloaded and installed last week.
Sharing iTunes libraries using the option to share libraries on a local network works fine between Mac and Windows-XP. The sharing also works fine between the XP and the Vista PC.
But the Vista PC can't access the Mac iTunes library. When trying to open the Mac library, iTunes on the Vista computer says something like "Fetching library info from...". It's the same problem when trying to access the Vista library from the Mac.
We had a similar problem when trying to access shared folders on the local network. Thanks to a tip on this forum how to tweak the Vista registry, the shared folder problem was solved.
I'm think some registry setting in Vista might solve iTunes shared library problems. Maybe some Windows freak knows how to patch the registry to solve this issue.
Otherwise the solution is to trash Vista, and install Windows-XP.

  • ITunes 7.1.1 and Vista

So is iTunes finally compatible with Vista? Or are there still issues?

Yes, many people are annoyed by the Vista incompatibilities.
You can download and attempt to use the XP version. For some people it works fine, for others (including me) most things work okay but some things don't, and for still others it doesn't work at all.
Most of the problems seem to center around playing videos (especially if they are stored on SATA drives or RAID arrays) and around file permissions.
The only way to know whether it will work for you is to try. If you decide to go ahead rather than waiting for Apple to officially support Vista, make sure you have good backups and a restore point set prior to installing iTunes so you can recover if something bad happens.

I deinstalled all codecs (including Nero), because windows vista solutions also pointed me in that direction, but no luck yet..
okay. we'd better try swapping out your QuickTime now that the codecs are out of the way.
sometimes with that sort of "error message free" launch failure with QuickTime, Add/Remove doesn't want to get rid of the QuickTime. so we'll try the following technique if that happens:
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Next, we’ll manually remove leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
next, we'll try to get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?

iTunes is a free program - it doesn't make good business sense for Apple to hire people to troubleshoot problems on Windows hardware - they'd have to hire hundreds, if not thousands to remote in to PCs and spend time fixing this kind of thing!
If you are getting that message about data execution prevention, you need to get DEP turned off, come **** or high water.
How about turning off UAC, can you even do that?
And with UAC turned off, can you disable DEP?
    How to Disable UAC
Remember you can always turn these back on to keep your system "safe" - this is just a test to get iTunes working.

  • Syncronizing my 3gs with itunes the sync does not finish because itunes allways crash and stuck i made some troubleshoots like reinstall again but nothing and my itunes is update and the system is windows vista home premium. Please help me...

Syncronizing my 3gs with itunes the sync does not finish because itunes always crash and stuck and i can not sync my device, i dont no whats wrong because the itunes even can not  acess itunes store, still loading waiting for itunes store and nothing.I tryed reinstall itunes but just waste of time.
My itunes is update, iphone 3gs 4.3.4, system is windows vista home premium.
    Please help me.

I also have the Mcaffe security centre so on the face of it we have very similar situations and I had not problems.
You asked what I meant about saving the installer on your PC.
When you go to the iTunes download page:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
And click on download, you should be offered the choice of running the installer or saving it. You need to click on save and then choose a folder on you PC where you want it saved. But I think you already did that.
After the installer file - iTunessetup.exe - is save on your computer, you double click on it to run it.
It's very odd that the installer fails at different stages. usually when the installation fails, it is at a specific stage and usually generates an error message.
I am afraid I am mystified. Have you had any other problems with your PC which might suggest a general problem not specific to iTunes?
The only other suggestion I have is to download a fresh copy of the installer - in case it got corrupted. You could also try using "run as administrator" to run the installer. It should be an option if you right click on the installer file.
The other thing it might be worth trying is to install it from another account, but you would need to create another administrator account if you don't a;ready have one. Or if you have another account that is not an admin account, you can temporarily promote it from the control panel>>User accounts.
