ITunes 7.1 Burning Problem

When I create a new playlist and burn that playlist to a blank cd in iTunes 7.1 it'll burn the tracks but it never seems to finalize the disk and iTunes locks up. Is this a common problem? What can I do to fix it?

acck. sorry to be a pain, but could you let us know which particular family of ThinkCentre you've got?
the CD diagnostics tell me your Type and Model ... but i need to enter the family first in the downloads and drivers page in order to enter that info in order to have a look at the available downloads ... and Lenovo is telling me that there are a bunch of different ThinkCentre families. see:
Lenovo Downloads and drivers
... the following document may be of some assistance with tracking down your particular ThinkCentre's family:

hmmmmm. i'm proceeding under the assumption that you've got a Dell 5150/E510. if i'm wrong about that, please check in with Dell to confirm your model prior to applying any updates.
i had a look at the support site for your model (or at least, what i'm assuming your model is). your firmware appears to be up to date for the HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GWA4164B that you're getting the error on, but there does seem to be newer firmware available for the SONY DVD-ROM DDU1615. so it might be worth getting that, just in case there some kind of odd interaction happening between the drives.

The 2131 usually indicates firmware needs to be updated on a drive.
Head to your drivers and downloads page for your latitude at Dell, and check for updates to your firmware for your optical drives. If you're behind and you update, does that clear up the 2131?

  • ITunes no longer burns discs

Hi, I came here in support of a new issue that has arose.
Heres the scoop: I have already created a playlist, click burn disc. It starts up fine as it has no errors when creating the disc. It then initializes, and says that it is burning the first track. However here is where the problem arises.
The status bar never moves, its just keeps saying burning the first track. The drive is spinning, sounding like it is burning regularly. So I let it sit for a while, come back, still the same exact place and the drive spinning like its burning. So I then click cancel after about 30 min. Of course it doesn't cancel, or won't eject so I force quit iTunes, and the disc stops spinning.
Then, once it quits, the disc starts spinning again and appears on the desktop, and iTunes reopens. The disc shows the right amount of tracks and the correct times, but when I go to play them, its just no sound.
I then try it again after restarting, and I get the same result. I even try changing the disc burn speeds and still the same result. Now I'm tired of wasting cds so I've come for help.
Some other details: I have recently updated to 10.5, before that I have been able to burn cds in iTunes with no such problem. Also, whenever I try burning unsuccessfully, more and more of my hard drive space gets eaten up and doesn't come back even when quitting iTunes until I restart. The drive is a dvd writer, but isn't factory installed, in the past versions of X I had to use patch burn to burn from the ilife programs, but its no longer needed in 10.5.

A friend this morning says that he thinks that iTunes has put a DRM (Digital Rights Management) code on any music that is imported into iTunes, whether it is purchased from the iTunes store, ripped off a commercial CD, or even copied from your friend's homemade CD, and that's why after some time is elapsed, you can no longer make a music CD from playlists in iTunes. He compared it to Rhapsody, which allows you to listen to your downloaded music as long as you still pay your monthly Rhapsody bill. Could this be true?!?! I can still make an MP3 disc, or backup my iTunes library to a DVD, but I can no longer make a music CD. Like others have described, iTunes starts the process, checks the playlist length, initializes the blank music CD, and then stalls, saying it is writing the first track, but will say that all day. One has to force quit iTunes to get the disc out. It shows the correct disc title and track names when inserted in a player with this capability, but all one hears is static-like noise when the disc is played.

  • Eject button no longer works after iTunes audio CD burn

Hi, after upgrading to the latest version of iTunes, the eject button on my drive does not work after burning a CD.
It still works with other applications, just not iTunes (but it did before the latest upgrade).
Luckily, I can still eject disc's using the iTunes, or Windows Explorer software - but it's a pain.
Is anyone else having this problem?
Thanks in advance for any guidance you can provide!

For my Matshita UJ-831Da CD/DVD drive, the driver version showing in device manager is 5.1.2535.0. I just now clicked on "update driver" and the reply was that a newer version could not be found.
But why would doing a "Run Diagnostics" in iTunes now freeze / crash my whole system when it never did before? It only began doing that after it also began failing to burn CDs. Again, the iTunes software is the only software that has ceased to burn CDs.
Several months ago, I finally reached by phone a girl at Apple tech support who first denied there were any known problems. But when I told her that the web was full of thousands of people screaming about this very issue she recanted and admitted that iTunes was having these problems, that they had posted the fix for some of the other CD/DVD drives but not mine. She then said, "but if you pay $35 I'll tell you how to fix it." Absolutely unethical. That's like buying a car then being told that there's now an extra fee for being told how to start it. She may have lied about knowing what the fix is, but either way it's absolutely unethical.
The problem is iTunes. iTunes changed and now won't drive the same current drive it worked with when iTunes accepted my money, in advance, to purchase and burn music at future dates. iTunes should fix the problem.
I'm willing to go through the leg-work, to try all of Apple's instructions here, but Apple also needs to follow through with this.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • "itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close" - while importing

While importing a CD i get an error message halfway through and the burning stops. The windows message is: "itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close".
    I have tried to repair:
    1. remove Quicktime and repair itunes.
    2. updated windows, itunes, quicktime, updater.
    3. updated my dvd/cd driver.
    4. deleted all forms of itunes and quicktime and reinstalled.
    5. deselcted "use error correction" under preferences, advanced, importing.
It is not the burner as Windows Media imports the cd just fine.
Please help. It drives me crazy. ty.

    hi Jonathan!
This is only a temp solution...
there are a couple of ways of making this change semi-permanent (if the fix works for you). you would need to download and install a utility that starts up itunes with a single processor affinity set.
Otto discusses two in this thread (Runfirst, in the first post in the thread, and imagecfg in one of the last posts in the thread):
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=826742&ft=y&#826742
(although Otto is talking about a podcast crash in that thread, the same underlying cause of that crash also causes the importing crash.)

  • ITunes has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are

I've had it with these guys!
I recently upgraded to itunes 6, and have had awsome problems ever since. First it stopped my pc from booting up completely, which I had to start in Safe in order to quick restore. Then everything would freeze when I tried to burn a cd, then it wouldn't recognise my burner.
Now I am unable to uninstall either itunes or the ipod software (uninstall shield pops up for a few seconds then just disappears).
If I quick restore to two months ago, itunes says it is missing files and needs to be reinstalled.
Now, when I reinstall, it goes through the whole process, and then teels me that itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close.
I'm really at a loss what to do, and my daughter is going to kill me because we can no longer access her music...
I'd like to somehow uninstall all itunes and ipod software, and presumably reinstall everything from the ipod cd...any suggestions?.....please?

Okay, somehow I fixed it by disabling my Norton, uninstalling, then reinstalling itunes 6. And I can burn cds now. Go figure.

  • Itunes hangs when burning cd's - possible solutions

    Hello everyone,
I've had what appears to be the same problem as many many more people on this site.
I haven't got a complete fix, after 4 months of trying but I've got as far as I have with the help of Toonz and the people at Apple.
Now here is what I have found:
    1. The problem with my Itunes hanging at burning only happens if I have a mixed playlist that I am trying to burn. When I say mixed I mean a mix of purchased tracks and uploaded tracks from my cd collection. Just uploaded tracks work fine.
    2. If I just burn a playlist of purchased tracks it works fine too.
    3. If I don't control alt delete when it hangs, and I wait for up to 2 minutes, the burn evenutally kicks in. Don't do anything. Just leave it and see what happens. I was having to control alt delete to get out of the unresponsive Itunes, but by chance, yesterday, discovered that by leaving it it finally burnt my cd! This was a mixed cd with both purchased tracks and uploaded tracks.
Now, the people at Apple don't yet know why this is doing this. It only happens since version 6 of Itunes. This version (I think) was the first to introduce the "checkingplaylist" stage of burning and they seem to think that it might just be something to do with that.
Anyway, that all helped me. It is still frustrating to have to wait for a couple of minutes, but it's better than nothing. They are still trying to get to the bottom of this for me, too.
I hope this helps at least some of you.
Please give me some feedback if it has, as I'd love to know that all my efforts over the last few months could help others!
    Good luck

    I think I'm in love...
I just spent the past 3 hours running through reinstalls of iTunes, looking at every support topic and finally found this wonderful, wonderful thread.
I am having the same exact problem with mixed playlist burns.
I also have great success with waiting for only about 1-2 minutes while iTunes shows "Not Responding". Then it fires right up and burns perfectly.
Thank you for posting this quazi solution, and it has helped me tremendously. Well, at least it has saved me from having to transfer all of my music to a new digital music manager.
I hope this issue gets resolved soon

  • ITunes crashes when burn disc

When I go to my playlist and click the icon "burn disc" iTunes instantly crashes. Have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and still have not been able to get it working. I get an error message that says iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to shut down. Also, when I try to edit preferences about burning it crashes.

    I'm having the same problem.

  • Help: iTunes won't burn cds for me

I recently got a new laptop-- a Dell Inspiron 700m (Windows XP, Service Pack 2, etc.)-- and when I try to burn a playlist in iTunes, it says that my disc burner or software are not found. I'm able to drag and drop files onto the cd icon in my computer and burn files that way, so I know the cd burner works. And I've been able to burn songs in Windows Media Player. So what's wrong with iTunes? In Properties on my hardrive, the hardware tab recognizes my CD-RW/DVD burner drive: NEC DVD+RW ND 6650A and V386 STEALTH DVD SCSI CdRom Device are listed.
Can anyone help me? Does iTunes just not work with some cd drivers? If not, then what do I do with all my iTunes songs that won't play in Windows Media Player? Are they convertible somehow, even the ones I purchased from off the iTunes music store?
I'm so frustrated! Any help out there is much appreciated.

  • ITunes unable to burn to a 'recognized' external drive

    Hello,
I am trying to burn a CD from iTunes 6 to an Iomega Predator USB external CD-RW burner. It is recognized by iTunes (and shows up as the burner under Advanced Preferences) but will not burn a CD.
The "error" message I get is "iTunes can't burn this CD because the burn speed is too fast for your CD burner or media." I have tried a CD-R and CD-RW, and I have set the burning speed to 1x, 2x & 4x. I have also tried the patch, but it says it is not necessary. I have also tried different play lists.
I am running an iBook 500, 10.3.9. Any suggestions?? (Any other questions for me?)
    Thanks

imho your problems are related to burning through USB 1.1: USB 1.1 is rather slow and USB support is rather weak compared to burning through FW.

I have ITunes 10.7.0.21 and I cannot Upgrade To ITunes Plus Or Burn ITunes Songs To Mp3 Cd Disks.  Do I not already have the DRM Free Songs that I have already purchased from ITunes over the course of the last year?  How do I get my DRM Free Songs and be able to burn or transfer them. Please advise

I think I solved this for me. I had Netbarrier set to enable "Information Hiding" when I first had this problem. Unchecking that setting solved the problem.

  • ITunes not recognizing burning software

I do have burning software on my computer and I've never had a problem burning discs before. But now iTunes claims "disc burner or software not found". But I do still have burning software on my computer. The software came with my computer package so I am not in possession of the CD-ROM to reinstall. Does anyone know why iTunes would suddenly claim I don't have software and how to resolve this issue?

  • Itunes Won't burn a cd

When I first click on the iTunes icon to open it, a window comes up reading:
"The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning cd's and dvd's are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other cd burning software. Please reinstall iTunes."
Afterwards I tried to burn an audio cd from a playlist in my iTunes library, but an indicator reading "No disc Recording Software Found"
I reinstalled iTunes 4 times and even downloaded the update to no avail, iTunes still won't burn cd's. I have a Dell Diomension 2400 with a dvd/cd burner drive, the operating system is Windows XP with a Norton 360 security system. Over the past month I have been installing and downloading other programs that deal with cd's/dvd's but I'm still not totally sure what the issue is as many of these programs are now uninstalled (there is a window media player, a Real One Player, two Xilisoft converter programs were recently uninstalled and deleted as well as a cd audio convertor program).
I am not very computer literate so any help, insight or ideas would be appreciated.
    Thank you.
