ITunes 7.1 Causes Computer to Crash During Games

When running iTunes 7.1 along with games in order to play my own music in the background (specifically Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion but presumably any game with significant usage of EAX or 3D sound hardware capabilities), my sound card's output becomes garbled (but only for the game's output, not iTunes') and shortly after my computer either freezes or experiences a MACHINECHECKEXCEPTION blue screen of death. The only other game I have installed - The Sims 2 - does not cause this problem, but it probably isn't as taxing on audio hardware.
You can listen to the (fatal) glitch here if you're interested: http://www.supload.com/listen?s=S7n1x01E_1X
The reason I am coming here instead of a Creative forum is that the problem was introduced with iTunes 7.1 and will not occur with any previous version or any other audio-playing software I've tried.
I have a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS, and the problem is limited to this card, meaning it doesn't happen with my onboard sound, but the problem was introduced with iTunes 7.1. I've uninstalled and put version 7 (no .1) back on to make sure and the problem would not occur.
Also, it seems to be limited to having high-quality audio options set in the QuickTime Preferences. It only seems to happen when I have 48kHz as the sampling rate and 24-bit as the size. Using "Safe mode" will have no effect; the problem occurs with or without using waveOut.
I almost scrapped my sound card until I decided to diagnose the problem further and discovered it was limited to iTunes 7.1.
I hope this problem is solved in future versions of iTunes, but since - I'll admit - it seems fairly obscure, I'll probably be forced to stay one version below 7.1 from now on or (Gosh-forbid) lower the quality settings for now.
So some steps to reproduce the problem (if you have a Creative Sound Blaster card (one that supports 24-bit which is most new or decent ones) I'd appreciate you confirming this issue) are:
1. Open QuickTime Player. Click Edit > Preferences > QuickTime Preferences. Click the Audio tab and change the Rate to 48 kHz if it isn't there already. Change the Size to 24 bit from 16 bit. Channels doesn't seem to have any effect on this issue so leave it alone. Click OK and exit QuickTime player.
2. Now go ahead and open iTunes and start playing some music.
3. Try playing any game you have that takes a decent toll on your sound card's abilities (Oblivion should cut it if you have it; I haven't tried World of Warcraft but I'd reckon that in a busy area the problem would occur in it as well).
4. Enter an area with a lot of noises, or start battling or something.
And a temporary workaround:
1. Just change the Size back to 16 bit, or lower the Rate to 44.1 kHz, and the problem should go away.
Windows XP Pro Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS

Correction: I didn't put the original version 7 back on. What a mistake that would have been.. I put 7.0.2.16 on, the version directly preceding 7.1. You can get it here: http://www.filehippo.com/download_itunes/?1774

  • Loading software will cause computer to crash

I had a 15GB iPod, but the hard-drive broke. I recently got an iPod mini and when I try to update the software that came with it, a message comes up on my computer saying that it hasn't been checked by Windows, and to talk to Microsoft. I'm using Windows XP. I'm afraid to continue the installation after reading all these posts about updaters causing havoc on computers and iPods. What should I do? Am I being paranoid?

i have the plug in power outlet icon on my mini. is there anyway that i can get rid of that instead of getting a power outlet charger cuz i dont have one. and if there is no other way
You should start your own thread. Your problems have nothing to do with "Loading software will cause computer to crash".
how much is a mini power outlet (not usb) charger
You are two whole mouse clicks from looking it up yourself.

crashed during games like doom3, farcry, trackmania sunrise etc. even just playng video! pushing up the memory voltage to 2.8v from 2.6v seemed to help... it would just run a little longer before crashing. everything is stock speed and voltage except the ram. tried all kinds of combinations of dimms in slots, tried upping the CPU Vcore. all chipset and GFX drivers are the lastest versions (5.10 for the mainboard, and whatever the current one is for the GFX card).
totally stumped. what is going on? and if anyone says i should have checked the ram compatability chart, i shouldn't HAVE to check to see if my ram is compatable. it should  just work. and i am definatly NOT ditching £330 worth of ram over a £50 mainboard. the dimms are all from the same batch, same manufacturer, etc etc, and no trouble all with my old gigabyte board.
also checked the hardware, pulled cards, swapped gfx boards - my GF6800GT, spare GF5900U, old GF5200, and my old faithfull PCI GF2MX400. same problem.
now heres the kicker. got home from work for another evenings troubleshooting, (windows and games would blue screen saying i should check the drivers, or the hardware, gfx card) and found that the PSU had died. really annoyed now. when i go buy a new PSU, any suggestions? or shall i take this MSI board outside and shoot it?
come back gigabyte, all is forgiven.

If those figures are right, I can't see the PSU as the reason for your problems.
About the temps, though I haven't got that experience myself, some temperature monitors read very high levels, while BIOS tells it as all is idle, and very idle. I mean, it could be the messenger.

  • SLOOOOW during themes; Causes computer to crash

Help! I just spent quite a bit of money (as you all know) on my new powerbook G4 last weekend and have so far been exceedingly satisfied with my purchase. Then, today I upgraded my standard iLife program to iLife 06, and was particlarly excited to start making movies with my pictures and video using the themes category.
However, whenever I try using themes, by comuter automatically freezes up for minutes on end, and goes SO slow! I can't even watch the video because it freezes and skips and goes extremely slow, causing my computer to crash every time. My computer completely freezes after awhile!
I've seen that I'm not the only one who has this problem... thankfully I didn't purchase iLife with my own money in addition to the computer, but still... I don't want it taking up a bunch of wasted room on my hard drive! It's a neat concept and everthing with the themes, but I don't necessarily HAVE to use it.
What recommendations do you guys have? (Those that have had problems and know what I'm talking about-- not those who have had perfect experiences. You've just been lucky, or we've just been unlucky. Who knows). Anyways, I would LOVE some help/advice on this because I don't want this wasted space on my hard drive, or have it cause my computer to run slower.
Has anyone had a problem outside of the themes page? I notice that there aren't as many options as there were on iLife 05'. Anyways. Let me know!!!

  • I had iTunes on an old computer, it crashed. I have the iTunes saved to a disc. How do I install all my old music on a new edition of iTunes?

I had iTunes (version 10.5.1.42) on my wife's old computer (Windows Vista). The computer was crashing regularly. The place I took it to get it fixed made a disc of the iTunes before the computer died entirely. I have a new computer and would like to install iTunes and add the stuff from the old iTunes. How do I do this?

  • WRT610N causing computer to crash -- repeatedly!

So I received my WRT610N yesterday and set it up. After working for hours to get the thing to connect, it now causes my computer to crash unexpectedly and repeatedly.  I initially thought it was the software doing this but, after removing the software, I tested this by just plugging in the router.  Bam. Computer crash and reboot.  Could it be the signal is just too much for my 5+ year old computer to handle?
I'm pretty sure I'm just going to return the router and give up on the idea of a BluRay I can stream HD video on.
    Any input?
    Thanks,
    Keith

Well i think this might be due to the Older Version of the Drivers for the Wireless Card installed on your Computer. Try to upgrade the drivers for the wireless adapter on your computer and i think this might solve the problem.

  • Snow Leopard causes computer to crash

I purchased a snow leopard home pack (5 users). The first was on my macbook pro and there were lots of problems with my e-mail account, key chain and a number of my usual third party software programmes will not run on it (bummer as most want me to buy an upgrade license - more expense.
The second computer I ran it on, my wife's mac book, failed to load half way through. The box text said something along the lines of "disk error, take in for repair". When I quit installer and had the option to go back to the start up disk the computer crashed. Now when I turn it on it runs the initial start up (grey screen) for about two minutes then shuts down before it loads the login screen. The disk is locked in side and the computer is not running. If any one has a simple solution short of having to take it to the apple repair shop where it will be incarcerated for a week will be greatly appreciated.
This has not been one of mac's better software upgrades for me and I'm not recommending it to my friends or company (we use mac). The problems are not out waying the so called benefits just yet.

Incompatible third party apps can cause a computer to crash Not SL.
    http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/
Personally I find Snow Kitty to be great but still waiting for some third party apps to be updated by the software writers. Not a deal beaker for me but others are waiting.
Updates are coming in thick and fast from the best Mac software writers and Printer manufacturers but Apple cannot do anything about software writers who haven't bothered to update for SL.
From Apple: To remove stuck discs. Although the Take in for repair message is a worry.
    1. Place the computer in sleep mode.
    2. Press the Media Eject key at the top-right corner of the keyboard.
    3. If that doesn't work, drag the disc's icon to the Trash.
    4. If that doesn't work, restart the computer, then hold down the mouse button.

  • GoPro Cineform files cause Premiere to crash during Media Export

I first  noticed this problem when using a project that had been copied and transcoded with GoPro codec as demonstrated in Dave Henly's helpful video.  The codec is indeed beautiful.
However, 50% to 80% of the time when trying to export a project where there are GoPro files on the timeline, it'll get about halfway through the export before Premiere (or Media Encoder) simply freezes up.
I didn't know what was causing this problem until I was  using one large GoPro-exported video as the new base layer for a project that had otherwise been working perfectly prior to that (using Canon 60D-created .mov files).  Now it was crashing during every export.  On a hunch, I re-exported that base layer as an h264 file and replaced the GoPro video on the timeline, and now the project exports out just fine.
Is this happening to anyone else?  I'm using just the standard 8bit GoPro preset whenever I export out or transcode clips.
I'm using Premiere Pro CC, whatever the up-to-date version number is right now.
    Windows 8.
    24 gb RAM.
    GeForce Titan Black
    Intel Core i7

    Similar problem.
The new feature rendering a ae comp inside premiere timeline is perfect, but using gopro cineform codec crashes premiere on export.

  • Qosmio X300-14C - Crash during games due to overheating of the GPU

Hi everybody. I recently by a Qosmio X300-14C (core 2 Quad Q9000,? 9700 GTS), and during games, the temperature of the GPU increase till 100 C and the game crash.
So I buy a USB cooler for my X300. Now, the temperature increase ?only? till 96 97C. And there is no crash.
I try to put the last bios, the last Toshiba GPU driver, the last nvidia GPU driver, the same.
When I start Vista, without any application, the temp increase till 65C. The fan increase his speed, so the temp goes to 55. The fan stop running faster, and the temp start to increase again.
During games, the fan made the same noise when the temp is 65C or 95C. So I think the problem is here. There is no increase of the fan speed for very high temp. So only 2 speed: under 65C and over, that?s all.
I install ntune, but the speed of the fan dont move at all. For the GPU I have 20.000 RPM per minute! Is that right?
Some people have the same probleme?
    Thanks!
    Esteban.

I have the same problem with my Qosmio X300 (PQX32E-04H02WGR). Anytime I'm playing games there is a blackscreen and a tuneloop.
I wrote a email to the toshiba-service in germany and they told me to make a new installation of windows, to install the new bios 2.1 and the new beta driver from nvidia. Even this all did not solve the problem.
So I ring up the german hotline and they told me that there is nothing more to do and that they don't know that problem. They sayed I could try playing the games in a reduced resolution and perhaps this could solve the problem!!!??? Yes... I buy a very expensive gamer-notebook to play with it in a reduced resolution - nice idear.
After I told them that I think it could be an overheating-problem they want to get the notebook to find it out on my own risk (I have to pay a service-charge if it is no overheating problem).
    We will see...

    HI,
During game play it would freeze (or stutter) for about sec and then back to normal and this happens about every -2 mins, if I take out the audigy sound card then the prob goes away
It didn't used to do this or at least I wasn;t aware of until I ran a program called PCI Latency Tool 2.0 to test different settings of the PCI latency timer and all hell broke loose. Ive tried reloadingh the BIOS and reimaging the partition to the state where everything used to work but to no avail
I look at the IRQ table in WIn XP and the AGP card & the Audigy are sharing the same IRQ but I guess this is normal for WIn XP

  • Cookies.sqlite folder is causing computer freezes/crashes. HD-problem ? Firefox-problem ? virus problem ? Solution ??

Hi, this is a bit complicated so please bear with me. Thank you.
Simply put my question is: What exactly is stored in "cookies.sqlite" ? I notice there are many cookies-files in my profile, such as "cookies.sqlite.bak", "cookies.sqlite-shm", "cookies.sqlite-wal" etc. What exactly gets lost if I delete "cookies sqlite" ? Can I even do that without hurting the rest of my profile ?
And could there be anything in this "cookies sqlite" folder that is causing Firefox not to run and my computer to freeze every time I try ?
Reason for asking: Not sure if I have a corrupted Firefox file, a hard drive problem or another problem.
Background info: The day before yesterday, my notebook (Lenovo, XP) was working fine. When I went to start it up yesterday, it did not boot properly. I tried a couple of times and eventually it worked. I tried to open Firefox which caused the computer to freeze. When I forced a shut-down and turned it back on, it ran checkdisk. It detected something, fixed it and started back up again. Explorer worked, so I went ahead and saved all my data manually. Then I wanted to save my Firefox profile as well and the computer froze. I started it back up, tried again and the same thing happened. I then tried again file-by-file. The file freezing my system turned out to be "cookies sqlite". I was able to copy all other files (including all other cookie-files). But when I touched "cookies.sqlite" (and we're talking copy and paste to an external HD) the machine froze. I tried the same thing through a Ubuntu live CD and again I was able to copy all of the profile except the cookies sqlite file. I tried doing an Acronis backup and there were some reading errors at the very end of the backup. I ran Lenovo's PC doctor that said that there is a hard drive problem. I ran chkdisk from the command line and the computer froze during chkdsk. I tried to see what on the computer was still working and it turned out that nearly everything was fine. I was able to start Opera and Thunderbird, burn DVDs etc. But when I tried Firefox again the computer froze. Every time it freezes and I force a shut-down and re-boot it, I get something different on chkdsk. Sometimes nothing (all is well), sometimes something is repaired or deleted at various stages of chkdsk. But apart from that the computer works just fine. Well, almost: The only other thing that causes problems is running a virus scan (with Avast anti-virus). Again the computer crashes towards the end of the check (similar to Avast) and I get a "kernel_stack_inpage_error" with a bunch of number codes. Running scans with anti-malware-tools (Malawarebytes, Superantispyware, Spybot) is fine and nothing is found.
So my question would be: is it possible that that cookies.sqlite file is somehow corrupted and is causing all these problems ? Or is it a malfunctioning hard-drive with an isolated problem in the area where this file is located ? What is the best way to find out ? (Given that I can neither run chkdsk from the command line, neither run an antivirus scan). What can I try to do about it ? What happens if I delete the "cookies.sqlite" - file and replace it with an older version ? Could that solve the problem ? Or will it cause even more ? And is there any chance to save the data from that cookies.sqlite-file ? Safe mode does not work (same thing: computer freezes), neither does Ubuntu live CD.
Oh, and the hard drive is a Hitachi Travelstar which is about 3 years old, so it should still have lots of life left.
    Thanks a million!
    eLeo

  • HT204406 computer keeps crashing during match upload

I just purchased iTunes Match and evertime it gets to the 3rd [and last] step of "uploading artwork and remaining songs", my computer crashes.  Windows 7 64 bit, 8 GB mem, latest version of iTunes [10.7].  I've run utilities to clean up files and the registry, uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, etc.  Nothing helps.  No other problems with any other programs or tasks.  Any help would be appreciated.

Try switching Match off first to stop iTunes crashing, then download some music from Amazon (which automatically adds it to iTunes) and then switch Match on again. Hopefully, it will then work , like it did for me.
Also there is now an upgrade to iTunes version 11 out. Try upgrading and see whether that makes any difference. It does look a lot different to version 10 so maybe they have sneakily fixed any problem with Match?

  • Pciimaq.sys causes nt40 to crash during booting?

I'm trying to install a 1408 IMAQ card. Anyhow, the system running
NT40+SP6 does not manage to boot anymore. It allways presents me with a
    blue-screen,
telling me that PCIIMAQ.SYS causes some kind of adress error.
What can I do to fix this?
    Regards,
    Thomas jennewein

Is the IMAQ board in the computer when this crash occurs? Do the crash occur if the boasrd is out of the computer. If you can boot without the board in, you probably have a bad board. If it still does not boot, can you boot in safe mode and uninstall the driver or it won't even let you select which mode to boot in?

  • Flash Player causes computer to crash and no computer sound?

    Hi all,
Was wondering if you guys could help me out.
Basically I have a fairly new computer (Dell Studio 1557).
After a couple of days of use I booted up like I normally do and tried watch some YouTube videos,
The video failed to load and once I clicked anywhere in the browser it became non responsive and forced me to close the browser (Firefox), a similar situation occurs with all the other browser i have (chrome won’t even load)
The browser freezes if I try to access anything with flash on the webpage.
Another thing that seems to be affected is the computer’s sound, Every time the flash player doesn't work the sound on the computer won't work either(not just flash videos on websites). Programs like itunes,VLC,WMP fail to load because they all use sound.
The only solution I’ve found is to restart the computer although the problem is back the next day, I've tried all the usual stuff (reinstalling flash, the browsers, and making sure the audio drivers are up to date).
Anybody out there have a similar problem or any solutions, any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Kenno90
    Windows 7 Professional x64
    Flash Player 10.1
    Shockwave Flash 10.1.53.64

If your sound is crashing "system wide" your problems are deeper (a lot deeper) than Flash Player.
Make sure you have your Windows 7 DVD.
Click Start and Run (if the Run Command isn't in your Start Menu, you can add it by right clicking the Start button and choosing Properties, then go to Start Menu and Customize.
In the Run window type "sfc /scannow" minus the quotes, of course. That's ess eff see space slashscannow exactly as it appears between the quotes.
This will start the Windows System File Checker (SFC) and will scan your OS to ensure all necessary system files are intact and uncorrupted.
