ITunes 7.1 crashes when attempting to play any music

I have installed, uninstalled & re-installed the 7.1 but everytime I try to play anything iTunes crashes with an undefined error. It will sync with iPod, rip music from my CD's and allow me to access the Music Store. It all seems fine, no errors during install, but it crashes everytime I try ti play any media. Everything was working in version prior.

Hey swhitson,
Try the tips in this article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93610 and see if they resolve the issue.
If not, try to reinstall using the steps provided in this article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976

  • Itunes 7.1 crashes when attempting to play music

since the upgrade I can't play any music.
I un- and re-installed itunes, no change!
This is only on my home machine, not on any of my work machines.

    Pinknoise,
    ok,
Then do the steps in KB 93698. Then use the standalone Quicktime installer, linked in the following article, to install Quicktime first, then install iTunes again.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
I recommend you always use the option of saving the installer at the prompt to download it, not the run option. Make a new folder to save it in. Give it the name of the version of the installer you are saving as the name will usually be the same, i.e. itunessetup.exe. (note of where you save it)
    Hope this helps,

  • ITunes crashes when attempting to play purchased tracks

Hoping someone can help me here. iTunes crashes when attempting to play tracks purchased from the iTunes store. Music imported from CDs still plays fine. They have played preiously but not since downloading and installing 7.0.2.16. QuickTime is up to date and I only have 1 PC authorised. Help!
Dell Dimension 5100   Windows XP Pro

There's another thread on here that suggested re-installing iTunes. That works for me (in that the videos play), but I have to re-install iTunes every time I want to watch them which is a pain. So if anyone has a more permanent fix...

  • ITunes 7.1 will crash when attempting to play music

Ever since I've upgraded to version 7.1, iTunes crashes whenever I attempt to play music. This also occurs when I try to listen to a song in iTunes Store.
    Thanks for any help!
Dell Dimension 8100   Windows XP Pro

are you still at iTunes 7.1.0.59? to check, go "help > about iTunes", and wait for the version number to scroll up from the bottom of the screen.
    if you've got a 7.1.0.59, try upgrading to 7.1.1.5:
    iTunes 7.1.1.5 installer
do you still get the crash when playing music with that in place?

  • ITunes 9 keeps crashing when trying to play a song

My iTunes (with the newest update) crashes not everytime I play a song but it does crash alot.
I'll click a song to play and then nothing will happen and all the words will change into just black lines. Also all of the things on the genius sidebar will have a "broken link" picture on them. Sorry it's hard to explain.
Is there anyway to fix this?
It hasn't happend before I update it.

Hmmmm. Head into your Problem reports and solutions control panel. Check your Problem History. Are there problem reports showing up in there which always seem to be recorded when the iTunes crashes happen? (The events may not necessarily be listed as iTunes problem reports ... so check through the entire problem history for reports produced as the same time as the iTunes crashes.)
If you find such problem reports, doubleclick on them to show more information about the problem. Could you please paste copies of the contents of the typical examples of problem reports into a reply here so we can have a look at them?

  • ITunes suddenly crashes when trying to play purchased music

Everything's been OK (other than iTunes randomly rebuilding my music library every week or so...) I download a song from the music store. It attempts to import it and crashes. I manually find the song and drop it into iTunes, it crashes. I won't even import it. I try to play ANY purchased music, it crashes. I can play non-purchased aac and mp3 files just fine. I'm running itunes 6.0.1

Oh yeah, I forgot to say that i've also trashed my old iTunes and re-installed, and trashed the prefs.

  • Itunes 10.5 crashes with no error when trying to play any music, video, or import/scan from the library folder on the compter with Windows 7 Pro.

Fresh install with all older itunes un-installed as well as other Apple software.
Now cannot get any songs, videos, or even scan library folder for songs to work on the computer.
itunes just simply crashes with no error comments.
This is itunes 10.5 on a Windows 7 Pro system.

Same here, though on XP. Have tried cleaning registry, reinstalling, deleting preferences. Created a new user with no library and I have the problem there, too, so it's not the library.
Is there no one to call about this??

  • ITunes crashing when attempting to play video

hi guys! lately, i've been having a major problem with my iTunes. it seems like it crashes everytime i touch the "videos" section (either playing video, editing info of video, etc.), eventually freezing the whole osx and forcing me to shut down my computer via holding down the power button (eeek!). do you guys know where my problem might lie? it is freaking me out because i never thought this kind of thing would happen to a mac! haha any suggestions/help would be GREATLY appreciated! thanks so much!

Usually when you update iTunes it is best to check if there is a QT update too. It appears that when Apple updates iTunes there is some component in QT that also needs to be updated due to changes in the DRM scheme.

  • ITunes 10.6 crashes when trying to play video full screen

I haven't seen this particular issue among others' comments so…
When switching from the normal video window to full screen while watching a podcast in my iTunes library, the program immediately crashes.  I've tried several different podcast, starting with the smaller video window, then trying to expand using the opposing diagonal arrows symbol in the bottom right corner.  The result has been the same.  As soon as I click on that the window screen goes black, and iTunes shuts down.
    I'm on a MacBook Pro 4,1 using OS 10.6.8 and iTunes 10.6 (40).
Meanwhile, hope someone is working on the problem with the clickable scroll bars being inoperable.

Do you have any better luck with that if you update to iTunes 10.6.1.7?
From the notes for the release:
iTunes 10.6.1 provides a number of improvements, including:
    • Fixes several issues that may cause iTunes to unexpectedly quit while playing videos, changing artwork size in Grid view and syncing photos to devices.
    • Addresses an issue where some iTunes interface elements are incorrectly described by VoiceOver and WindowEyes.
    • Fixes a problem where iTunes may become unresponsive while syncing iPod nano or iPod shuffle.
    • Resolves an ordering problem while browsing TV episodes in your iTunes library on Apple TV.

  • IPod crashes when attempting to play Logic songs

I am quite new at Logic and have two questions:
    1
When I bounce a Logic project to iTunes, I have no problem listening to the song on my computer - in iTunes. But when i sync my iPod and then click on the song there, the iPod 'crashes' (needs rebooting) - and when it's ready again, nearly all the battery power has gone.
I have tried most of the options when bouncing ... aiff, wave, mp3, m4p etc ... all of which give the same result.
    2
How come the 2,000 page Logic manuals - as far as I know - never touches upon the subject of mastering?

Sounds like a F^&*ed up iPod. IMO.

Because Logic is mainly used to create music / post production. Not so much for mastering. The guys who created Logic are not mastering engineers..but musicians.
If you want to master with Logic, you CAN. Go get a good book on mastering... there's a few out there.

  • "Itunes has stopped working" when attempting to play purchased video

I have purchased multiple episodes of The Vampire Diaries from Itunes, to which I have already watched. But when I went back to watch them again, it gave me the error "itunes has stopped working". To which, itunes started up again. I tried to click it again, and got the same error message. I have a windows vista. and this problem is really making me mad. Anyone know how to fix this?

I am also having this problem and from the looks of it I'm going to have to sit back(unfortunatly) for an answere to get back to me.
I feel the same frustration as you Krazybald, I've been wanting all day to watch a movie from my purchased movies and cannot.

  • My last version of Firefox is crashing when i wanna play any video. And i don't know what to do, help me please :/

I have the last version of the Firefox, and about two days ago and i can't see any type of video because the firefox crash quickly

The culprit is surely Ask toolbar you installed via another application. First, disable and uninstall the "Ask toolbar" in the plugins section of Firefox. Secondly, close Firefox and open the Add/Delete Programs in Windows. There, uninstall the "Ask toolbar" and the "Ask updater".

  • ITunes Radio quickly scrolling songs and not playing any music

On both a iPhone 4 and 4S when a station is played it just scrolls through all of the songs really fast and does not play anything.  Is anyone else seeing this behavior?
iOS 7 and on work (aka not manged by me) WiFi
Am not experiencing this behavior on WiFi at home.
This leads me to believe work network has TCP ports 8000-8999 and 42000-42999 blocked.
Is anyone else seeing this behavior...or can confirm my suspecion?

I'm having this problem as well.  I used to listen to iTunes radio at work frequently.  But the past few months or so, it simply fast scrolls through songs (on any station).  I'm lucky if I get one song to play and then the scrolling starts.  I do not have this problem with my WiFi at home, so I suspect it has something to do with the WiFi at work.  Just wondering if anyone found any settings to change or a workaround to the issue?
I agree with sounds_good; I wish Apple would find a solution with a future iOS update as I miss iTunes radio while at work!
And I find it odd that Pandora has never been problematic like iTunes radio is...

  • I downloaded the most recent update to Itunes yesterday and now I can't play any music.  It just sits still.  The play button is pushed but nothing will play.  Any help?

So frustrating!!!  Nothing will play since the update.  I've also tried to import CD's and I can't tell if that even worked.
I'm not happy with this update!!

PLUS I'm also having issues syncing with my iphone!!  Nothing transfers over.
