ITunes 7.1 doesn't launch

I downloaded iTunes 7.1. Now when I try to launch it, it comes up with a message "ITunes can not run because it has detected problem with your audio configuration". The previous version worked absolutely fine.
Can someone help?

ITunes 7.5 doesn't launch at all.

Ever since I updated to 7.5, iTunes does not launch on my computer at all. When I click on it it just bounces, opens for less than a second on the dock and then closes. The window doesn't even pop up on my screen though. The only iTunes that work are any before the iPhone one, so if I delete that version and downgrade I can use iTunes, but I'd like to have the latest one on my computer. I have a 1.33 GHz PowerPC G4 with OS X 10.4.11, I don't know if that has anything to do with it. Thanks.

I have the same problem. Since upgrading my iTunes to version 7.5 the icon bounces a couple of times in the dock then just stops and it wont open. This is very annoying especially as I spend a lot of time championing the fact that in my experience I have never had a problem with a mac and now I feel very foolish.
I dont know what is going on, has anyone got any ideas?

When iPhone 3GS is connected iTunes doesn't launch

Updated to iTunes 9, updated iPhone to 3.1. When iPhone gets connected iTunes doesn't launch automatically. I should add though, that my ipod shuffle when connected does auto launch iTunes.

Here's what I did: uncheck "disable autosync for ipod and iphones" in itunes/settings. Then connect your phone, go to summary pane and choose "sync when this phone is connected". Go back to itunes/settings and select "disable autosync..." again. Check the summary pane again, autosync should be garyed out again. Close itunes, disconnect the phone. Connect again and itunes should auto launch without starting to sync.

I’ve found another solution for those where this doesn’t resolve it.

You can extract iTunes Helper from the iTunes package, if you like, to replace the absent one.
It can be found by right-clicking the iTunes app and choosing 'Show Package Contents'; then navigate down to the 'MacOS' folder. You can then drag it to your open 'login items' window.

This solved the issue for me, where unchecking and re-checking didn’t.

As the subject says. Updated to iTunes 9, updated iPhone to 3.1. When iPhone gets connected iTunes doesn't launch automatically. I should add though, that my ipod shuffle when connected does auto launch iTunes.

Apparently this is a bug in iTunes 9. Hopefully their will be an update shortly to fix this minor annoyance.

ITunes starts but doesn't open

After upgrade to iTunes v7.7, whenever I start the program I see the library-loading progress bar, but then the iTunes window itself doesn't open; however, according to the Windows Task Manager, itunes.exe is nevertheless running. No error message of any kind is displayed at any point.
How can I get the blessed thing to show itself?

I downloaded the lates version of iTunes. Now, every icon on my desktop now is the iTunes icon and will only launch iTunes. The same is true with almost everything in "All Programs" from my start menu. Uninstalling brought desktop back to normal.

After upgrading to the latest version of iTunes, it changed all desktop icons to the iTunes icon and will only launch iTunes. I uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and the same problem occured. Help.

Yes i've tried all of that. I've turned it all the way on and off and erased all of my music and put it back on and nothing works. And with the breaking up CDs and putting into compilation categories i have already fixed all of that stuff. It's fine it just doesn't show up in the list of artists. I can find the album in the songs category and the albums category it's just it doesn't show tha name of the artist. All of the other albums that i downloaded before i updated my itunes to th most recent update are fine. It's just the two that i downloaded afterwards. Thanks for trying though.

ITunes does not appear to launch on Windows 7

I have a HP Pavillion laptop running windows 7, my iTunes software and Quicktime are fully updated. Itunes doesn't launch on my taskbar or display, and is not recognised as being open on task manager. 'Itunes.exe*32' is said to be processing in the processes after I try to launch itunes. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the software and followed all the suggested forum advice. I've tried other users and had the same issue and tried the wider system troubleshoot which also has had no effect. I have no idea what to do now, but I desperately need my iTunes Library to open!

QuickTime player doesn't launch when streaming podcast

When I stream a podcast through iTunes, the QuickTime player doesn't launch. Instead, the podcast plays through the iTunes browser. The problem is that you can't multitask or even pause the podcast without it starting over. Is this a bug or "new feature"?

Finder doesn't launch properly

My finder doesn't launch properly and does not respond each time I start up my mac. I can't seem to click on anything. I'm still able to open applications like iTunes but my computer will just keep bonging after i've done so. The problem will resolve after I relaunch my finder. Although this may seem like a small matter, the problem keeps coming back as and when I'm using the computer. This started only after updating the system to 10.5.8, when my screen only showed a grey screen post-installaion. I had to off the mac maunally by holding on the power button. I've updated the system to 10.6, but that wouldn't solve the problem.
Utility check is fine.
Will someone please help me? This is the first mac that i have, and i've just converted from windows, having given up hope on it.

I'm leaning towards backing up your data, erase the disk, and reinstall SL. There appears to be a system-wide problem that has hung around from your previous system. Trying to hunt down the problem will likely take longer than doing the erase and install and re-importing your data.

And if it still doesn't work when you try to re-open it, I would then reset the device:

Itunes 7.01 doesn't start up

itunes doesn't want to launch. In the beginning it stopped after accepting the license and then closed down with this error: iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
If I hold in the shift key while launching itunes I get a bit further. Itunes asks me a library (although I already had a library from itunes 6) and then it shuts down with the same error: iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
It doesn't matter if i go to an existing library or create a new one.
I don't have norton or NIS, but I do have Mcaffee Virus protector. However, this is switched off.

I made a new account and then it works beautifully.
okay ... usually in the itunes 6.0.x-and-earlier-days, that indicated a problem with the itunes preferences files in the user account in which itunes was crashing. (there's a different set of preference files in each different XP user account, which is how we can get this "launch in one account, crash in another" behavior.)
so we're going to try "rebuilding" the itunes preference files in the account in which you're crashing.
quit itunes. log into the account you're crashing in.
make sure you have "show hidden files and folders" switched on. to do that, open up My Computer, and in the Tools menu, choose "Folder Options..." Then go to the View tab, and then in the "Advanced settings", make sure that there is a check mark next to "Show hidden files and folders".
now navigate to the following folder and open it up:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\
("<username>" is the name of the account you're crashing in.)
inside, you should see an "iTunes.pref" file and an "iTunesPref.xml" file. rename them "iTunes.pref1" and iTunesPref.xml1". move them to your desktop.
now navigate to the following folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\
inside, you should see another "iTunes.pref" file and another "iTunesPref.xml" file. rename them "iTunes.pref2" and iTunesPref.xml2". move them to your desktop.
restart the PC. log in to the user account that itunes is crashing in. try launching itunes again.
the itunes setup assistant should run. (much like it did the first time you launched itunes after you installed it for the first time.) it's rebuilding the itunes preference files while you're doing that.
after the itunes setup assistant has done its business, does itunes open up normally for you?

I have an iPod Classic, the 2nd most recent version. I havn't had problems with it until a week ago. Before I had the new iTunes update, a week ago, it wouldn't show up in my Device's or "My Computer" , wont sync and It wouldn't charge either. I thought to myself "Maybe I should update my iTunes, maybe thats why it's not working". I updated my iTunes library to the most recent software last night thinking it would help but... It didn't help at all and made things much more complicated. I don't like how the new iTunes navigates and the iTunes Helper isn't there now. I'm still facing the problem where it doesn't show up in iTunes AND it doesn't show up on "My Computer" AND still doesn'tt sync but the thing thats different is that it'll charge a quarter bit and say it's done, or it wont charge at all and stay on my home screen. I need help here. Anyone have any suggestions?

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer

My computer crashed and I lost everything. I got a new one and downloaded itunes all over again. When I plug my ipad in even after authorising my computer it will still not let me edit anything on the ipad. The screen is grey like on the ipad section and i cant select an app or anything. I have transfered purchase apps but all it does is take movies and tv shows accross. It wont transfer the apps into itunes. Please help

As far as I know, iTunes will still not change anything until you click on Apply in the lower right corner. I fiddle with my settings all the time - just so I can get a sense if what to expect should I make any changes - and I have never seen anything happen to my configuration unless I click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes. Not only that - you have turned off auto sync so as far as I know you still have to click on sync or apply in order for the iPad to sync with iTunes.
That doesn't mean it will not happen, I've never seen it happen - is all that I'm saying. I'm sorry but I'm not sure what will happen, but the only reason that I can of why the apps will not transfer is because of the manual manage setting. I could be wrong about that as well.
Look at this discussion - which I have referred quite a few users to read. I know this process has worked for a number of people that have read it and used the instructions in it. Maybe we are missing something - what that would be - I'm not quite sure, but take a look.

    * Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor
minimum system requirements
    * 512MB of memory (I say 1.5GB for PPC at least, 2-3GB minimum for IntelMacs)
    * DVD drive for installation
    * 9GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
Classic/OS9 Apps no longer supported.
Trouble is Apple no longer sells it, check eBay & such for the Retail version, not the Gray Discs...
