Itunes 7.2 folder organization messed up

After installing itunes 7.2 for windows, I noticed that my songs are being sorted not by Artist\Album, but by Album Artist\Album. Why is this? I never had this problem before.
example.
Song: Hora Staccato
Artist: Heifetz
Album: 1936 Recordings
Album Artist: Emmanuel Bay
This should always be stored as \itunes music\Heifetz\1936 Recordings.
But now, with itunes 7.2 it is stored as itunes music\Emmanuel Bay\1936 Recordings\
This is really counterintuitive. It should organize as it used to, by Main Artist, not Album artist. My folders are all messed up now.
Anyway to fix this? Or is this the way itunes 7.2 is just going to be? The last release of itunes also had problems with folder organization.

Actually I know exactlty what stradvcl is referring to, because I am running into the same problem. Thus my search in the forums.
Usually Ive had no problem in importing a song into iTunes, and changing the song IN iTunes to read as follows.
Name of Song: DAYS `EUREKA OPENING MIX`
Artist: Anime
Album : Eureka seveN OST 1
Album artist: FLOW
And the Windown path would look like this
C:\Documents and Settings\Varxtis\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\Anime\Eureka seveN OST 1\1-01 DAYS `EUREKA OPENING MIX`.mp3
Notice It goes Artist>Album>Song Title
Album Artist would not even be part of the path, which is exactly what I want.
but now it shows
C:\Documents and Settings\Varxtis\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\FLOW\Eureka seveN OST 1\1-01 DAYS `EUREKA OPENING MIX`.mp3
Which goes AlbumArtist>Album>Song Title. it doesn't even include the artist as part of the path. How annoying.
It makes a HUGE difference to me because I need everything in "iTunes Music" library in windows to be pathed as Artist>Album: Song Title. I use a different MP3 Player so, it's almost impossible to have half one way (those that have albumartist) and half another (those that don't) BTW, Sorry apple. . .no Offense. I've had and loved an iPod. . . but it died and I got this as a gift.
I never changed any settings, and quite honestly it's been about a month since I had to update my MP3 player music (thus noticing the problem). So, there HAS to be a reason for it to change. And more importantly, a way to change it back.
"it's just new" is not going to cut it. iTunes is special for its efficiency for sorting music and organizing it. There has to either be an option, or a fix. Anybody know what it is?

  • ITunes 12.1 Folder Organization

I just updated my iTunes to 12.1.0.71 running on Windows 8.1. I have always used the "Keep my iTunes Media folder organized" feature for when I add new music/movies/TV shows from outside of iTunes and have had no issues until this update.
I tried adding a new completely tagged movie and rather than placing the movie inside its own dedicated folder (i.e. iTunes Media/Movies/MOVIE NAME/MOVIE NAME.m4v), it places the movie directly into the iTunes Media/Movie folder. It's not a big deal to me for movies, but iTunes is doing the same thing for TV shows. I added a new show and it did not create a dedicated "Season #" folder, nor did it include the episode/track number as a prefix for the file name.
Again, this was not an issue prior to the 12.1.0.71 update.

iTunes 12.0 had an issue with not moving video files around after tag/media kind changes. That seems unchanged. A workaround is to uncheck the Keep organized option, click OK, then set it active again.
The iTunes 12.1 version of Get Info appears, at first glance, to include all of the properties that were only available in the old school get info dialog in the previous version. Also gone are the Add Field button for optionally enabled fields, and the autocomplete on space bug. The old dialog doesn't seem to be available from any keyboard combination, although I quite possibly haven't tried everything.

  • Syncing to new iTunes library without losing app folder organization?

I reinstalled the OS on my PC and after installing iTunes and pointing it at the iTunes folder on my second drive, it nevertheless lost my iTunes library. I was able to re-add all my content by adding the My Music folder to iTunes, but I lost my playlists. I was okay with recreating those, but...
When I chose to sync apps, iTunes said it would replace the apps on the phone with the ones from the libray. And all my folder organization work will be lost.
Is there any way to associate my iPhone 4 with the "new" library but maintain the folder organization I have?

A manual backup will help. Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. This will save all settings, data, photos and much more to your computer. More info here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
After that, transfer our purchases the same way, choosing transfer purchases this time. All apps and purchased media fro the Store will be copied to the new iTunes library.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your PC to be able to merge calendars and contacts after the first sync, which will wipe your phone. But you can restore from the manual backup you made before.

  • ITunes Media folder organization on a network drive

I have a problem with a strange behaviour of iTunes media folder organization on my network drive.
Option "keep iTunes Media folder organized" is enabled.
If the Media folder is on a local drive or the Media folder is replaced by an alias pointing to a folder on an external drive it works correctly.
(Correctly means subfolders like "music" are generated by iTunes.)
But if the Media folder is an alias that points to a networkdrive directly (instead of pointing to a folder in that drive) iTunes does not create the subfolders anymore.
What is the reason for that behaviour, how can it be fixed?

Thanks for the feedback, but with the iPhone (I use the calendar feature a lot), synchronising just became a very common event, and perpetual re-connecting will drive me insane.
    I guess I will just live with what we have until the folks at Apple figure it out;

  • I redirected iTunes to an external drive and moved my iTunes library and folder, but my hard drive is still low on space.  How can I be sure that my music is all on the external HD ONLY, especially with the new iCloud technology?

I redirected iTunes to an external drive and moved my iTunes library and folder, but my hard drive is still low on space.  How can I be sure that my music is all on the external HD ONLY, especially with the new iCloud technology?  It doesn't look like I created any more space by doing this, AND I totally lost all my iTunes playlists.  I'm not sure if because I added old library materials manually if this messed up my playlists, or if the new location is just not reading my moved library.  In any case, I followed step by step instructions and found a few holes and thought I'd just "figure it out" but I guess I'm not as smart as I thought since I'm still scratching my head many hours later.
    Thanks for any support ;-)

Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to select a library, then guide it to the 'iTunes Library.itl' file in the moved iTunes folder.
If this is to a new computer and you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

  • I dragged my ext. HD iTunes backed up folder into my new mac. Now there are duplicates of every song!! The problem is both versions seem to actually BE there when I check the info. Now I have no idea if iTunes is playing the files in the trash or not

Hi. I'm in a situation here and would really welcome some guidance. I dragged my ext. HD iTunes backed up folder into my new mac. Now there are duplicates of every song. Both versions seem to actually BE there when I check the info. So, I moved what I thought were duplicates into the trash from iTunes, and resigned myself to the fact that I would have to do this manually for each album. I did this with about 10 albums. I emptied the trash and lost them even though they still LOOKED like they were in iTunes. I repeated the process tonight on a bunch of other albums not realizing yet that I had screwed up terribly the first time. This time I saw what had happened and pulled the files out of the trash, onto my desktop and dragged them back into iTunes, then deleted the duplicate files that had exclamation points next to them. Now I have no idea if iTunes is playing duplicate files from the trash or not, and am nervous about emptying the trash. Anyone dealt with this before? Thank you

  • Moving iTunes Mobile Applications folder to an alternate drive

I found out how to move the iTunes Mobile Applications folder to either an external drive or as in my case, from my 256GB SSD systems/application drive to a non-SSD drive on my desktop (3.0 TB in size). This is important for any iTunes users with their systems/applications on a SSD drive (i.e. on the C: drive but with constrained SSD drive space). In my case, my Mobile Apps folder is 40+ GB in size.
iTunes allows you to easily move your iTunes music folder to an alternate drive but it does not provide a means to move the Mobile Apps folder. I have confirmed this. However, in Windows Vista, 7 and 8, using the “mklink” command, you can set up a symbolic link from the iTunes Mobile Apps folder on the C: drive to the relocated Mobile Apps folder on another drive. iTunes thinks it is adding new Mobile Apps to the C: drive Mobile Applications folder, but it is actually updating the real Mobile Apps folder on the alternate drive. I’ve tried this approach and it works like a charm. The steps required are as follows:
    1. Copy the existing Mobile Apps folder and its content on the C: drive to its new location on an alternate drive on your desktop or to an external drive.
    2. Note and record the exact detailed path to the existing Mobile Applications folder as well as the exact detailed path for the new Mobile Applications folder
    3. Delete the existing Mobile Applications folder (You cannot create a symbolic link to a directory that already exists on that same drive)
    4. Open a Command Prompt (admin) window on your desktop. On Windows 8, this is easily done by right clicking the start icon on the bottom left of the desktop screen and selecting the Command Prompt (admin) option.
    5. change directory to C:\  (i.e., enter cd c:\)
    6.  enter the mklink command and press enter  (format mklink /d link_address   target_address) for my Windows system this looked like the following:
         mklink /d "C:\Users\Marv\Music\iTunes\Mobile Applications" "D:\Music\iTunes\Mobile Applications"
This command recreates the Mobile Applications folder on the C: drive in the exact place it was before, but only as a pointer to the real folder on the alternate or external drive. The link is transparent to iTunes and my 40+ GB Mobile Applications folder can be on a large drive rather than on my 256GB SSD systems/applications drive.

It requires elevation. If you find the command line application (cmd.exe), right-click, run as administrator, and paste the command, that will work.
However, this technique, which worked for me in the past, seems now to be failing. All new downloads are in the root of iTunes Media. The bizarre thing is that iTunes thinks it has put a downloaded file in the correct folder, so says it cannot play it, and if I move it manually to the correct folder, iTunes sees it without problems. I've tried mklink /d and mklink /j, neither works (the former shows the redirected target pathname, the latter behaves as if the target path is actually part of the native directory structure).

  • Can I merge or combine 2 "album artwork" folders? I have saved music onto an external server from 2 computers but the artwork that I have manually imported remains in the default folder in the music/itunes/album artwork folder on the respective PCs. Thx

Can I merge or combine 2 "album artwork" folders? I have saved music onto an external server from 2 computers but the artwork that I have manually imported remains in the default folder in the music/itunes/"album artwork" folder on their respective PCs.
i.e. artwork uploaded on one PC won't apppear on the other PC because it is saved locally...
I'm confident that i won't beable to just merge the 2 because thy'll have the same folder names.
On the same note: can I have iTunes create these files on the external server/Hard drive also so that either computer can use them at the same time?
(like I have my library- can the other files be saved remotely)
    Thx

    i'm using iTunes 10 BTW

  • Is it possible for automator to convert all word documents in my dropbox folder to apple's "pages" on iCloud and keep the same folder organization?

Is it possible for automator to convert all word documents in my dropbox folder to apple's "pages" on iCloud and keep the same folder organization?  I am a teacher and want to switch from using microsoft office on my macbook pro to using pages/number/keynote.  I am hoping to get an iPad next year and go "paperless" with lesson plans and gradebooks and I heard that pages/numbers/keynote are great on the ipad.  I'd like to write an automator script (workflow?) to convert all my documents in dropbox to pages and have them stored on iCloud, then be able to access the files on my macbook pro and ipad.  Thanks!

Create an AppleID under different email addresses for each family member at http://appleid.apple.com
If they don't already have their own email address just setup a free one with Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail or whoever you prefer.
Then on each device sign into iMessage with the users own AppleID in:
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > Tap AppleID at top > Sign Out, then sign back in again with the correct AppleID.

  • Can't uninstall iTunes.  "The folder path "TVShows nib" contains an invalid character."

Every time I try to uninstall 10.2.5.11 on Windows 7, I get the Error: "the folder path "TVShows>nib" contains an invalid character."  and the uninstall fails.  Any suggestions?
    I have already tried:

    Thanks!

Assuming here you're uninstalling as part of troubleshooting for installing a newer version of iTunes.
Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

I am having the same problem now also. It happened after I updated my version. I have NEVER had this problem before as a windows user and have had iTunes for 5 years. So, I would have to say it is an Apple problem. I have not changed anything on my computer. I still have Internet Explorer and I have not even updated windows. The only thing I updated was iTunes. Now, I am not getting any response from Apple and if you call you have to pay for support. What a joke. An iPod costs $400 you would think that after paying that much you would at least get some type of help. This will now be the last time I ever by anything apple.

  • How can I store my video footage in one library? Currently I have video clips in itunes, iphoto, movies folder, imovie, imovieHD... probably some duplicates, How can I clean this up?

Currently I have video clips in itunes, iphoto, movies folder, imovie, imovieHD... probably some duplicates, How can I clean this up?

Yeah, this is frustrating for me, too. I tried a few different variants: keeping everything in Aperture, keeping only videos in iPhoto, keeping videos in Movies folder, etc. Reason being I'd like to be able to sync some videos back to the iPhone will keeping access available for iMovie - which is tougher than it should be. Now that the iPhone does HD videos, Apple needs to either adjust iPhoto to work with videos better or work with iMovie to actually function as a movie database as well as editor.
For now, I, too, have my stuff strewn about on my Mac but I'm trying to consolidate as much as I can into iMovie events on an external drive. I have a bunch of video clips of my 2 year old and I've decided to just group them by year and then put together an edit of each to then put into iTunes so I can view them on AppleTV as well as sync to my iPhone. I figure I won't ever sit down and watch every single clip so I might as well put together the "highlights".

  • How to change iTunes default synchronization folder?

Because my disk C too small, I want to synchronize my iPad to another disk (for example D or E). How do I to change iTunes default synchronization folder?

FYI, when the camera is on you can tap the middle icon in the lower left corner of the screen to select the folder which files will be saved to.
    Cheers!

  • What is the proper way to move the iTunes (v11) Media folder to an external USB HD?

What is the proper way to move the iTunes (version 11) Media folder to an external USB HD?  I have tried to following listed instructions, but although I can get the songs listed, their locations are not found.

Tried the option key, but it would not let me select the copied iTunes folder.  Also changed the path for iTunes Media Location folder.  But still iTunes is not happy.  I could try the alias route, but I don't have an iTunes folder that iTunes is happy with to point it to.  All of the songs and even the playlists will come up, but it seems some form of the folder and its files must remain on the internal hard drive.  But I want to move it off because it is out of space.  Any other thoughts?
I have all of the music etc files what I do not want to lose is the playlists.  I don't care about the play counts.  I would be glad to reimport all of the songs to the newly designated folder, but won't I lose my playlists?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Itunes cant find folder %APPDATA%\

I had a problem with my computer when backing up the harddrive. It had to clean out some stuff and it ended up cleaning out Quicktime and it told me to uninstall intunes and reinstall it. i went onto apple.com and tried reinstalling it but it popped up that itunes couldnt find folder %APPLDATA%\ so i installed Quicktime with no problem and tried downloading itunes but it popped up again.
    HELP PLEASE!!!!!!

I am having the exact same problem as Ravi. I recently upgraded to iTunes version 5.0 and now the program will not even open. It hangs for about a minute and then the error box pops up with:
"The folder "iTunes" cannot be found or created, and is required. The default location for this folder is inside the "My Music" folder."
I have checked on the location of iTunes. It is in the right location but what is wierd is that when I click on the "My Music folder in the Explorer Window, my machine hangs for about 30 seconds before showing the contents. Then when I click on "iTunes" folder, the machine hangs indefinitely. It simply will not show me the contents of the folder. Eventually it gives me an error:
"Request cannot be performed because of an I/O device error."
I just reinstalled the iTunes 2 days ago hoping it would fix the problem, but no luck...I also tried the Tweak UI program, but to no avail...my machine hangs when I try to pick the "My Music" folder in the final step of the process.
Has anyone else had this problem?
