ITunes 7.2 won't play songs

I've just installed iTunes 7.2 and whilst all my music is still there (I've checked the actual files as well as the playlists), iTunes doesn't actually play anything.
The 'play' button changes to 'pause' when clicked, but the time elapsed counter (at the top of the window) doesn't move from 0:00 and there's no sound. I've checked the volume controls
Any answers?

Update
This fixed itself when the latest security update was installed. Maybe a restart was needed

  • After Yosemite update, iTunes recognizes but won't play songs

    Hey guys,
I updated to Yosemite today. Things are still groggy but generally good...except for iTunes 12.0.1.26
The library loads and can find my songs but they won't play. I've tried several different methods to play tracks but nothing appears to happening. It goes into a play state at 0:00 in the song but won't advance.
I don't see mention so far of other users struggling, but I hope you can help.
    iMac 24-inch Early 2009 model.

I called Apple Care. The tech said the problem was not common and the symptoms seemed to require a PRAM reset. So that's what we did.
To do the PRAM Rest, on reboot, hold:
    ⌘ + ⌥ + P + R
The computer will do its startup chime twice...like its rebooting each time. After that, it took a little extra time to reboot and then worked smoothly.
I did still have a few weird anomalies...
1 - Airplay in iTunes defaulted on...I had to turn it back off
2 - Airplay was selected as the default in System Settings too...
I had to turn off Airplay in iTunes and select Headphone out in System Settings > Sound but now everything seems to be in order.

  • HOW TO FIX: iTunes when it Won't Play Songs (One Fix)

This is for Vista Users who are also Running AOL Instant Messenger on their computer.
After upgrading the latest "security" update for AIM, iTunes fails to work!
Those guys over at AOL have done it again... they broke something... iTunes!!!
    The fix is Easy!
Open Control Panel and choose "Sound". When you open Sound, you will have a pop up letting you konw that there is something interfere with your sound devices or hardware. CLICK YES!!!! Then close the windows. That's It! it looks like the sound settings are adjusted by the AIM installer.
Let me know if this fix applies to you!
    Cheers,
    Brad

If you can't get the phone to turn on the only possible way you might get a reset out of it, Is to take it to Verizon and have them to hook it to there computers and flash it..  Hope that Helps..

  • I have just updated my iTunes and it won't play any of my songs. What do I do?

I have just updated my iTunes and it won't play any of my songs, It will say that it is but the time does not move along and the sound does not play. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it but it hasn't worked. What do I do?

    Hey B Noir!
Changing the 3D worked for me!
I am so glad that I ran across your post. I had been reading "solutions" to this problem all day, and most of them said to install/unistall/re-install itunes! No way! I knew there had to be an easier way, and you had it. Just a few clicks, and that was it.
    Thank you for your help!
    God bless.

  • ITunes 7.7.1 won't play songs anymore.

Hi, I recently upgraded to iTunes version 7.7.1, and since the upgrade, iTunes
won't play songs anymore. If I select on a song in my library, the diamond stays
at the 0:00 mark. I have tried re-installing iTunes, with no luck. I am running
the software on a Mac Book Pro with the latest version of OS X (10.5.4).
    thank you.

Just start with a standard procedure: Run Disk Utility and fix permissions/repair disk

Macbook Pro will only allow AirPlay to play through iTunes, therefore I can't play songs through Safari. I have tried going on to the Sound settings and selecting AirPort Express but its just jumps back to internal speakers. Its WELL ANNOYING! Any ideas?

Macbook Pro will only allow AirPlay to play through iTunes
    This is normal.
To be able to play any audio source on your MacBook Pro, you might want to take a look at an application like Airfoil. More info below:

  • Downloaded tv show from itunes and it won't play on my mac, just a black screen

downloaded tv show from itunes and it won't play on my mac, just a black screen

Did you burn the CD as an audio CD?
If not, that's your problem. Otherwise, without more details I can only guess. You might try a different brand of disk, or if you're using CD-RW try CD-R.
    Regards.

  • Imac won't play songs from my iPhone after I have authorised the computer

Imac won't play songs from my iPhone after I have authorised it

My solution was restoring my iPhone. Techs at Apple couldn't figure out why so I had to do a restore and worked after that. I know it's a pain and you have to reinstall all you stuff, but it worked for me. Hope this helps.

  • ITunes 7.4 won't play music videos

When I doubleclick on a music video, iTunes 7.4 won't play the video, only the music. Music videos where playing fine with prior versions of iTunes. No matter which option I choose in the Video Playback preferences, iTunes won't launch the video. Restarting iTunes didn't bring back music video playback either. Podcasts and Movies are playing just fine though.
    Any help ?
    Thanks

I had the same problem and I landed here - OS10.7, had iTunes 10.5.2 *thinking* it was playing - acts like it was?, shows pause icon - no audio, no actual playback.  ...Scrubber dot didn't move onPlay click. (And, dam, I was hungry for music!), but..  That's where I discovered it.  Of course, I had browser audio probs, too - YouTube, Hulu - and Skype - any app output audio was affected...
I struggled with this for at least a day!  Frustrated, I took out my other OS10 boot drives and tried troubleshooting...  No dice.  I halted CoreAudioD (whew) out of desperation...  I checked my audio lines..  Then I remembered I installed a trial of ProTools with an Avid audio driver (maybe looking for Digi-approved devices) at around the time of trouble.
My SysPref audio panel was showing only Avid's device - no line in, no ext spkr..  So, I ran the ProTools uninstaller to try that. That's where EVERYTHING went back to absolutely normal! (After the restart).  SysPref Audio panel shows all!  I selected LineOut (for me), and I got it.
iTunes and other audio-service-consuming apps suddenly didn't take 4 minutes to launch!, and my Lion install was like I first had it.  ProTools has a dedicated uninstaller - install that clean.  If you have a PT install that works, check the iLok config - my iLok is active and attached, but not for PT 10.  Maybe it's avid device->CoreAudio, may it's due to the PT trial???... Whatever it was, for me, the problem lied there.
Hope that helps any of you guys.  Good luck and thanks for the direction, bros..

  • ITunes rented movies won't play on my PC.  "This movie required QuickTime which this version of iTunes doesn't include.  So I downloaded QT but movies still won't play.  HELP

iTunes rented movies won't play on my PC.  "This movie required QuickTime which this version of iTunes doesn't include."  So I downloaded QT 7 but movies still won't play.  HELP  Very frustrating.

Ok nw the rented film is on the iPad which won't play and when I looked at the Mac I was greeted with an error message saying that the film could nt be transferred because the file had already been transferred somewhere else!  Thing is I can see it on theioad and the Mac still!
Obviously the film Kees checking where it as you can't watch it in two places at the same time. I can understand that but I knw it's not anywhere else.
The only thing I can think of is if when time machine backs it up it thinks it's being watched!
    Any ideas anyone?

  • Songs in Itunes Music Folder Won't Play

My Itunes will frequently not play songs that are clearly in the Itunes music folder and can be found. When trying to drag the song into itunes to play it will not play either. Windows Media Player and Winamp will play the songs. Basically I don't understand why it won't play the songs that are in it's folder.

Usually, it is corrupted MP3 tag headers.

  • Itunes won't play song even though computer is authorized

I did not get an error code just a box came up and said i need to authorize computer, and when i piut in username/password, it says computr is already authorized, ans when i click on the song the same box comes up again.  I have updated Itunes and still no luck.

  • ITunes on Mac won't play transferred songs purchased by same account on PC

I have recently transferred my iTunes library from a PC to a Mac (using my iPod as a hard drive). However, when I open up iTunes on my Mac, I am told that certain songs (all of the ones purchsed from the Music Store from the PC) are not authorized to be played on the Mac. I can only play songs I downloaded myself from cds. My purchased music still appears int he library, but I am not "authorized" to play it. Also, this is only the second computer I have used my iTunes on. How can I get this Mac authorized to play the songs I purchased?

Search the iTunes help files on the Apple support pages as I am sure there is lots of info about authorzing other computers.
But off the top of my head, one work around to this issue is to simply burn an audio CD on your PC with a playlist of your purchased songs or how ever many CDs you need to do it (CD-RW discs might be a good tool for this). You can then put those CDs into your Mac and import the tunes and now the "authorization" info/protection will have been stripped from them and you won't have that issue with them anymore.
