ITunes 7.3.1 (3) - odd burn issues after update

I'm using the latest version of iTunes running OS X 10.4.9
When I try to burn a disc, I get the following error...
The attempt to burn a disc failed. The device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media.
Before I upgraded, I could burn. And now, no burn.
I tried the suggestion of moving the following file to the desktop after you completely close iTunes. Worked for a few people, not for me though.
Open HD - User - Library - Preferences - com.apple.iTunes.plist
So - I need some advice from you all. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

will I ever be able to burn discs again???????

  • Odd sharing issue after updating to 10.7.4

Ok, first of all I made the jump from 10.6.8 straight to 10.7.4 on both my 2006 Mac Pro 1,1 Quad 3 Ghz and my 2010 MacBookPro
Till this upgrade I was able to file share and mount either computers hard drive(s) on the other coputers desktop as a shared drive.  However, what I experience now in Lion is that while using the Mac Pro, I am able to see the MacBookPro, share the screen, and mount the drive on the Mac Pro desktop.  However, on the MacBookPro I can see the Mac Pro in my side bar, but when I click on it it says connection failed.  I get the following message when I try to connect as:
There was a problem connecting to the server "macpro"
Check the server name or IP address, and then try again.  If you continue to have problems, contact your system administrator.
I can however share the screen just fine.  I just can't mount the drive as a shared drive like I was able to under SL.  This is getting really frustrating as I have check, rechecked the network and sharing settings and everything looks like it should on both computers.  I can't find where I can go to try to "check the server name or IP address" as the message tells me to do, so even if it's wrong somewhere I have no way to find what its pointing to and "fix" it.
The only oddity that I can see is that on the Mac Pro when it's set to connect to the Macbook Pro using an AFP location.  However on the Macbook pro trying to connect to the Mac Pro it lists a VPN location?  yet I cannot find where this is to change it to an AFP location to see if that solves the issue.  I'm pretty stumped here .
The LAN setup I have is a DSL modem/router that is hard connected to my Mac Pro, and my Macbook pro connects to it via wi-fi.  This setup hasn't changed since updating to Iion.  I'm able to connect to the internet fine.  I just don't get why I can't mount my Mac Pro hard drives on my desktop as I used to be able to.

I was having the exact same symptom.  In my case 2 other Macs (Air and Macbook Pro) were backing up to a shared drive on my Mac Mini server.  After the upgrade to 10.7.4 on the Mac Mini I noticed that backups were completely stopped (unable to mount drive).
I went to the Mac Mini server and ensured AFP was checked and just in case also explicitly added SMB access for the users that would be doing the backups.  Here is a screen shot of my settings:
In my case that STILL was not enough.  For the machine I had upgraded to 10.7.4 (Air) it failed with some sort of mount error.  Ugh!  Via another post I learned that 10.7.4 was not going to be happy until it started fresh with a new Time Machine image.  So I backed up the Air to a different drive on the Mini, erased the original image and then backed up to the original drive.
At this point I can't say which combo was sufficient to fix my problems... much less yours.  Hope this helps.

  • ITunes locking up as soon as it starts after updating it, please help.

My iTunes updated to the latest update last night. When it restarted, it immediatly comes up with the "Updating iTunes Library" window in front of iTunes and gets half way there and freezes. I cannot close it or do anything except close it out with Task Manager in Windows Vista. Then, iTunes, on it's own, keeps starting itself back up over and over and over with the same result. It loads as if I had clicked it to start and I have not, and before I can try to click anything, the "Updating iTunes Library" window comes up and it freezes again. I have to go into task manager and keep closing out iTunes as it keeps starting itself up over and over as if someone was clicking it and trying to start it, but if I leave it alone, it just sits there locked up and frozen. I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and it does the exact same thing. Is anyone else having this issue or is there anyone that can help me?

I have almost the same issue:
After update of iTunes, starting up iTunes will result in a lockup with a window telling you it is updating the iTunes library.
Running Windows 7, 64 bit, US.
iTunes version 10.whatever (I wish I could tell, but it locks-up).

  • Syncing issues after updating to 10.3.1.55

After upgrading to itunes 10.3.1.55, today, it no longer recognizes my iPhone 4. I plug it in, the iPhone makes its normal syncing noice. I get a prompt, like always about it recognizing the camera and how i want to handle it. I cancel it, as usual, and then it never shows up in iTunes. I close itunes, connect my phone and it does not start itunes as it normally should. No error messages, just no response. Can anyone help with ideas?

I had the same issue, after updating to 10.3.1.55 it would error out saying something along the lines of not being able to read the catalog or something.  I think the error even states do a restore to fix it.  Last night that is what I did, clicked restore and then had it transfer all my items back.  I'm glad I had just synced my phone prior to the update so the restore was really current.

  • Safari, App Store Issues after updating to 10.7.2

I am having this wierd issue after updating to 10.7.2 recently
When i run Safari, App Store, Itunes, i can see its loading..
but after 2 hours its still loading.
It just seems to be stuck and its not the Beach ball.. So i dont think it hanged
Its not a network issue as well, since i am typing this on Firefox, which is running perfectly
    What could be the reason?

I'm having the same issue on my iMac. I've also noticed the rear of the left side is getting a lot hotter than normal.
I downloaded (from: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1459) the update again and reinstalled it. But nothing's changed. Is there anything else I can try?

  • Issues after updating iPhone3GS to iOS5 on TIM cellular data network (Italy)

    Hi everyone
I have issues after updating iPhone3GS to iOS5 on TIM cellular data network.
After installing iOS5 I had to switch from apn ibox.tim.it to wap.tim.it
Since then the phone is unusable for any internet activity that is barely "data demanding" (e.g facebook app take literaly hours to update), everyting requires way to much time... the iPhone is not an iPhone anymore... it's worse than my blackberry with just GPRS on it.
TIM technical support suggested me to switch back on apn ibox.tim.it, but then I would not be able to use internet tethering anymore (they say because of Apple iOS5) ... to bad I need internet tethering for work.
I am seriously thinking to switch ISP or phone.
Anyone did experience same problem / found a solution?

    Hi Raia.D,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The first thing I would suggest is to restart your iPhone.  Then tap the Settings app, and you should see Cellular listed on the main settings screen.  You should see Airplane Mode, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and then Cellular.
Here are some additional troubleshooting steps to try:

  • To all experiencing burn issues since updating to last version of iTunes

To all that have been experiencing difficulties burning music since updating to iTunes6:
After reviewing this discussion board it seems obvious to me -I am not a technician but nonetheless- that the problems that we are experiencing are due to some kind of incompatibility between our PCs and Apple.
While some here have been very helpful in trying to resolve these issues, I find it disgusting that Apple does nothing. Itunes customer support do nothing. We are left to fend for ourselves, frustrated by the amount of money we have invested in building up our music collections in order fot them to be held hostage because Apple and/or iTunes will not address the issue.
Did anybody bother reading the software license upon updateing to the earliest version? Is it too early to talk of "class action" suits?
It seems logical to me that we will be heard better by Apple if we speak as a collective and not individuals. Maybe that way we could put more pressure on them to either fix what needs to be fixed or refund the money we have invested in iTunes.
As for me, iTunes has already lost me as a client. I won't download any more music because there is nothing I can do with it. That doesn't seem to matter to them. I suppose this is what happens when you get too big for your own britches!
Any ideas on how we can take down the bully????

Lost data from iTunes on upgrade? See Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash.
Restored an older backup to the device? If you're lucky your most recent photos may be in your Photo Steam.
Otherwise you may need to paint a fuller picture of the problem...

  • Dvd burning problem after update to 10.5.7

    hi there
not a major problem, but a bit annoying. after updating my macpro to 10.5.7, my external lacie optical fw-drive is no more able to burn certain dvd-R's, using toast or mac-destop-burn-app. i used this brand (TDK printable) before, using 10.5.6 without any problem. no problem to burn another type of TDK dvd-R's.
the internal drive is able to burn both types.
so, i booted into 10.5.6 (parallel-system) to check: problem persists...
my guess: something may have happened with the firewire connection/protocoll, whatever
anybody seen this problem? any solution?
btw, i did all the magic PRAM-permission-daily/weekly/monthly-voodoo
    regards
    christian

DVD burners change over time. Eventually they quit being able to burn at all due to heat warping both the blank and the laser aiming, bearing wear, whatever. The fact that one brand does still work in the burner and also that you were able to install a firmware update properly tells me that you don't have a firewire issue.
Your data is getting passed through to the burner, and it burns better on one type of blank than another. DVD's of the same brand will come with different characteristics and they can change by factory process. One batch of TDK's (or any brand) work, then the next batch doesn't. It happens.
When I have problems burning, I slow down the burn. In fact I never burn a DVD higher than 4X. Too many data errors, with different drives and blanks.

  • Lock button issue after update

So I updated my iPhone 5 to the 7.0.2 update this past Sunday and now my lock botton is not responding when I press it. I have to hit it a few times to get it to respond now.
It is NOT a hardware issue since I did not have that issue since ownership. It only started with this issue after I did the update to the 7.0.2 software. 7.0 it was completely fine. (It was an OTA update from 7.0 to 7.0.2)
I have not done the, "erase settings and reset" yet so everything can be reinstalled. But I am wondering if anyone has come across this issue and found a solution without doing the factory reset.

Just quickly pointing out that you said "It is NOT a hardware issue", yet, you post this under "iPhone Hardware". Nice!
Check for any and all debrie that could cause such a thing to happen. Other than that, best bet is to backup via iTunes AND iCloud, then do a full restore via iTunes.
    Good luck!
