ITunes 7.3.1 doesn't see my iPod Shuffle

I installed iTunes 7.3.1 and the Quicktime update at the same time. I restarted my computer, then opened iTunes. Everything works well, music plays, nothing missing yet, but:
When I plug in my iPod Shuffle using the Apple-provided USB dock, iTunes does nothing. Doesn't recognize it or show it in the menu. Finder doesn't recognize it either.
When I plug the Shuffle in, its LED glows orange for a couple seconds, then goes out.
The Shuffle behaves normally when unplugged from the dock.
The Shuffle worked fine with iTunes in version 7.3.

I had this problem. For me, the problem got away by closing iTunes, unmounting the iPod from the desktop and then attaching the iPod again. Wait iTunes to launch automatically. Once I did this, the iPod is also recognized again when iTunes was already running when I attach the device.
Hope this helps.

  • Updated to Itunes 7.0.1, doesn't see my ipod via USB1.1!!

    Hi
My itunes/ipod were running fine under USB 1.1 (older computer) until I updated to 7.0.1 - now itunes doesn't see my ipod!! The iPod shows up in device manager, though, and my machine even mapped a drive to it when iTunes timed out (I removed that).
Everything was fine until I updated. sigh.
I found an Apple page that said they don't "support' USB 1.1 - could it be that iTunes 7.0.1 just doesn't?
thanks in advance for any help!
    Brian

    yup same here
its a crapshoot, sometimes it happens other times it does not
only way round this i found is to do this:
    reboot windows
    and reboot iphone
eventually they will see each other.
what causes it? poorly coded itunes for windows, who knows.
but its something i've had for many versions now, 9.2.1 is nothing new. but it does seem to happen more now.

  • Itunes doesn't see my ipod shuffle and I want to reset it to factory default

I have a 1st gen ipod shuffle, iTunes does not see it but my computer does, I am running windows 7 and I just want to restore the shuffle to factory default

So, I found out how to fix this issue. In "My Computer" right click on the iPod and format it. I chose to format it using FAT and Default allocation size. After that, I opened iTunes and it recognized my iPod Shuffle. It said it wasn't formatted properly but gave me the option to restore it to factory defaults which fixed everything. Way to go Self. Thank you. You're Welcome

  • ITunes doesn't see my iPod video 30 gb! Please help me!

When i connect by usb 2.0 my iPod, the pc see the iPod as an external drive and It seems to be empty, while iTunes says that there isn't any iPod connected. The latest iPod software is installed. Opening the iPod while it isn't connected to the pc, there isn't any file but in the settings is written that almost 10 gb are full and 20 gb are free: this should be ok because before that these problems appeared that was the memory used. Of course I can't update the iPod or reset it to default because the iPod updater doesn't see any iPod connected to the pc while it is really connected... Well, windows sees my iPod while iTunes doesn't see it so i can't make any operation on the iPod and when it isn't connected to the pc i can't listen to the music... Please sombody help me!

I've reinstalled iTunes 7, restarted all the services and had no detection yet.
    I re-installed iTunes 6.0.5 and it worked w/out a hitch.
Does this have something to do with my pc not having any firewire ports on it? Or is there a work around ?

Ok, I have been able to fool iTunes and my iPod to at least get it up to firmware version 1.2 BUT still doesn't see my iPod until I kill the iPod service then start iTunes. And this gets better, after it sees it my iPod drops and acts like it's disconnected yet my computer still sees it as connected!
I too don't want to go back to iTunes 6 but it may have to come down to this.
To regain your Library all you have to do is get ride of the xml config files and config folders, just leave your music folder and re-import your music files in 6 and you'll be set.

Are you using the latest version of Silverkeeper? - v.2.0.2 is stated to be compatible with Snow Leopard.

If it's messing things up you could try asking LaCie Support for assistance.

  • Windows doesn't see my iPod

I had my ipod connected and it worked just fine, I had to force my computer to turn off, hold down the power button, and now my computer doesn't see my iPod. I tried the data mode and the resetting and the restarting the computer. I can't restore the ipod, because I can't get the computer to see it. The ipod alone works wonderfully and it is charging. So it sees that it is connected to the computer, but the computer doesn't see it. Any ideas?

I cannot download my new music because my ipod is not recognized. My usb port is working, I downloaded the new ipod version for nano and it is still not working. It does recharge when plugged in so why wont it recognize my ipod when plugged in ? Any help most appreciated.

  • ITunes 9.2.1 doesn't see my iPhone 3G 4.0 on Windows 7 x64

Hi everyone. I'm running Windows 7 x64 and have been having this problem since I updated my iTunes to 9.2. The problem is I plug my phone in, and iTunes doesn't see it. After plugging it in, iTunes seems to struggle a bit, lags, before finally running smoothly again. The phone doesn't appear in iTunes, though my computer detects it and I can browse the photos like I always could. Any help is appreciated!

  • ITunes doesn't "see" my iPod Touch but Windows 7 does. What can I do?

Windows 7 using "MTP USB Device" driver so it recognizes that it's an Apple iPod but iTunes doesn't see it. I have spent the entire day following the "install/ininstall/start AMDS/stop AMDS" instructions ad nauseum...still no love. Frustration maxed out!

    Did you try here:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    Did you do this:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7

  • Itunes messed up my restore and now doesn't see my ipod. What should I do?

I performed a restore on my Ipod Touch (bought new a couple of years back) and itunes tells me there was an error and the restore could not be completed. Nice that it still manage to delete all my information, contacts and goodness knows what else (I chose to backup my files using the itunes function), btw.
Anyways, now my ipod just has the "connect to itunes" picture. My PC doesn't recognise my ipod, apart from Apple Mobile Device under USB controllers in the Device Manager, and itunes doesn't see or try to do anything with my pod so that I can use it.
I've tried this solution http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538 but that didn't help and I reinstalled itunes and Apple Mobile Device Support, but to no avail.
What should I do? I'm using Windows 7 HP x64.

    Put it in DFU mode.
It's a common thing among jailbreakers. No one else really needs it, but it should allow your iPod to take the official firmware of your choice.
Here is a copy from a jailbreak help guide I will not link.
Please note that this will not jailbreak your device, so back off, moderators.
    Method (1)
    * Attach the phone to the pc
    * Turn the phone off
    * Hold power and home together for *exactly* 10 seconds
    * Release power but keep holding home until the pc beeps as a USB device is recognized.
    * At no point will the display come on. Now your restore should work.

  • ITunes doesn't see new iPod nano and creates 'iPod' folders on the Desktop

My mom got a new 5th Gen Nano. When it is connected to my parents' iMac (G5 with built in iSight running Leopard), iTunes doesn't see it. The strange thing is that the iPod itself goes through the normal synching procedures about every 30 seconds, and every time it happens, it creates a new 'iPod' folder on the desktop. The really strange thing is that each folder is actually a mounted volume that cannot be ejected and the only way to remove them is to reboot the system. Right now, there are 11 of those folders on the desktop (I am connected via screen sharing in iChat.
Any idea what to do about this one?

  • Itunes doesn't see my ipod

I've recently built a new computer, and ever since, I can't get itunes to see my iPod. I've uninstalled and re-installed itunes, and my drivers twice now, and no luck.
Anyone else experience this problem. How do I remedy it?
    phread

I experienced the same thing and gave up. Perhaps, because I used an older USB swich.
But since I know I was going to buy a new PC - I held off until i got a new machine. Now I am disappointed since ipod/itunes won't work seemlessly with vista - that is from Apple's own statement. I am advising all my friends and people who consult me to hold off with ipod. And even recommended to buy other mp3 players instead until apple gets its act together. I was expecting apple developer to be on top of Vista and be the very first to have seemless interface being always on the cutting edge and all. There really is no excuse since Vista has been released way ahead of time for businesses. I am quite disappointed. Apple is being a bit petty and arrogant to tell users to hold off Getting Vista.
GOOD luck on your ipod. Try uninstalling ipod first, then update your USB to 2.0 (hubs and all)- then reinstall ipod with itunes.
This seems to be your issue as it is close to mine. Sorry about the venting.

  • I updated my itunes and now it doesn't recognize my ipod touch

Ever since I updated my itunes to the latest version, it doesn't recognize my ipod therefore I can't sync new songs onto it.
I tried following these apple help steps http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1363?viewlocale=en_US but am stuck on #4-11...for some reason I can't delete the Temp folder because it's saying I still have a program open but I'm sure I've closed everything!

  • The new version of iTunes doesn't recognize my iPod shuffles where the old version did. Can you help?

I downloaded the new version of iTunes today-it doesn't recognize my shuffles-the older version did. Can you help?

Ok people after messing up three days with my jailbroken ipod touch cauze my itunes didn't recognize it i figured out that the problem is first windows recognized it as a imaging device o as a camera, i found in the device manager was listed mi apple ipod under portable devices and there was the problem it has to be listed under universal serial bus controllers named as a apple ipod so this is what i did but first make sure u have correctly installed itunes and the apple mobile device support:
1 open the device manager or windows button + r is run and then type devmgmt.msc
2 look for the portable devices and find the apple ipod or wherever that is listed on your pc.
3 once u find the apple ipod do a right click on it and click on uptade driver software
4 take the manualy opcion or browse on my computer and then look for this folder on your computer C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
there should be the driver that itunes recognize and your windows wont recognize your ipod as a camera again but i repeat u have to make sure u have installed the apple mobile device support u can get it by extracting the itunes+quicktime package using winrar. so click on update or next what ever on the update process and next time itunes will open your ipod for sincying thanks to forums ilounge.com
