ITunes 7.3.2.6: Vista: Error Msg: iTunes has stopped working

I have installed the newest version of iTunes on my Windows Vista computer, and I've had no trouble with the program after the original installation. I then ran across a spyware problem (not due to iTunes) and had to run System Restore in order to clear up the problem. After restoring the computer, i noticed that iTunes was unable to open after that point. Several times i have tried to uninstall and reinstall iTunes and have not been able to make any headway. I was wondering if there was a way to get ahold of maybe an older version of iTunes. I don't know if that would solve the problem or if maybe its just McAfee blocking the program. If anybody has any feedback, it would be greatly appreciated...

If you open Windows Media Player, can you play songs through there, or do you get a similar error?
If you get a similar error, something weird would be happening with your sound drivers.

  • "iTunes has stopped working" error in Vista

    Hey all,
This question is for my cousin. He has iTunes installed on Vista. It has been working before. It came up with this error, seen on www.ashrat.id.au/itunes.jpg
He has uninstalled iTunes and re-installed it several times. He also downloaded and installed the latest version of 8.0.1, of course rebooting the computer after installation.
Nothing odd seems to have happened beforehand to cause this. However, does anyone have any suggestions to fix the problem? This error comes up nearly right away when launching iTunes and the main interface doesn't show.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Same problem here with Vista Ultimate Edition and ITunes 8.0.1.11. I get the "ITunes has stopped working" generic Vista error msg. Quicktime v755.90.70 also gives the same generic message. I've done the "slash and burn" uninstall method for both Itunes & QuickTime as outlined in the support section (remove both apps, remote QT add-ins in \Windows\system32, run the MSI installer cleaner from MS) reboot, re-install and still no luck.
I've also disabled DEP system-wide (since Itunes cannot be configured to run without DEP), I've run Itunes as "administrator", and even tried running it in Vista Safe Mode but still am still not able to run either application.
A bit deeper analysis into the Eventlog / Application log reveals the following:
"Faulting application QuickTimePlayer.exe, version 7.55.90.70, time stamp 0x48ba1f5c, faulting module QuickTimePlayer.exe, version 7.55.90.70, time stamp 0x48ba1f5c, exception code 0xc0000409, fault offset 0x0000130d, process id 0x1ba4, application start time 0x01c94752a45e7550."
    and for Itunes....
"Faulting application iTunes.exe, version 8.0.1.11, time stamp 0x48e41bb0, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, time stamp 0x00000000, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x646f4320, process id 0x1a88, application start time 0x01c9475198965590."
I'm really stuck at this point with no real way to get Itunes to work. I'd really, really prefer not to reload Vista. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

  • 64 Bit Vista Error Message: Itunes has stopped Working

I installed Itunes on my 64 bit Vista OS and it was working fine for about 3 weeks. Now I get an error message when I try to start Itunes now: "Itunes has stopped working"
I searched for a solution on here but it looks like Itunes doesn't support the 64 bit OS I have installed on my computer. I really hope they fix this. I've had my Ipod and Itunes for 2 years now. It's been a pleasure to own and I've bought many Songs from Itunes store. But, if I can't get it to work on my computer I may have to try to sell it for something that will work.
    Thanks, Hairy

  • Does anyone have a fix for "iTunes has stopped working" error, using Vista?

When I try to start up iTunes I get an error message "iTunes has stopped working" and I have to close the program. I have performed a complete uninstall of all things Apple and reinstalled iTunes but no joy.

Did you after uninstalling iTunes (and before reinstalling) checked if the following directories where also deleted ?
(These directories store your iTunes and also other Apple Products settings...)
    For XP:
    Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple Computer
    Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple
    Documents And Settings\<user>\Application Data\Apple Computer
    Documents And Settings\<user>\Application Data\Apple
    For Vista:
    Users\Public\Apple Computer
    Users\Public\Apple
    Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer
    Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Apple
Note: Deleting these directories also deletes the settings for other Apple Programs
Ps: Always make a backup before deleting.

  • 'iTunes has stopped working' error message on iTunes startup with vista

Today i downloaded iTunes 7.1, i opened it and all seemed well, i played a few tracks etc.
but, when i plugged my ipod in i was told that iTunes has stopped working,
i tried to open it again, but the same message pops up.
so i restarted the computer, tried again, with and without the ipod in, still no success.
So i re installed itunes. Noting, i even re-dowloaded it, but still nothing.
i can't even open it, let alone sync my ipod.
I am currently running vista premium, and i had ipod problems with 7.0.2, i had to manually manage the iPod, auto sync crashed the computer. How do i fix it?!?

  • "Itunes has stopped working" in Windows Vista 64bit

I am at my wits end!  My I tunes will usually load but if it opens in my library and I try to access the Itunes store it always crashes with the "Itunes Has Stopped Working" error message.  "Windows is checking for a solution" follows but nothing is ever found.
I've tried completely removing Itunes and reinstalling. I've tried updating all drivers including the one for my ATI video card. I've scanned for viruses and maleware.  I even downgraded from Itunes 10 to Itunes 9 which seemed to work for about a day.
I've also done the sfc /scannow which showed some file issues but none that looked to be a problem.  One thing....my Gateway PC came preloaded with Windows Vista and I do not have an installation disk.
When I check the details on the crash this is the info that I get:
I've tried just about everything I could find I still keep having this problem.  Usually Itunes will start but if I click on a song in my library or try to go to the Itunes store it will crash.  Here is the info I get about the crash:

Does anybody have any ideas or hints?  Would upgrading to Windows 7 potentially fix this problem?
    HELP!!!!!

If we're talking about the (third-party, not-produced-by-AMD) ATI Tray Tools utility, the drivers for the utility are a bit scruffy. They've caused some trouble for the QuickTime Player since before the itunes versions 10.x came out, but after a while the issues started to ramify through to iTunes as well as QuickTime. The precise nature of the symptoms seems to depend on which combination of iTunes/QuickTime versions and ATI Tray Tool versions you've got, too.
On a 64-bit system, it's probably worth trying first adding iTunes.exe to the Auto 2d/3d and osd exception list. But just recently someone got past this sort of thing by disabling "Show FPS" on a 32-bit system:

  • ITunes Has Stopped Working Error

Can anybody help with that good ol’ staple “iTunes has stopped working” error?
From event viewer: Faulting application iTunes.exe, version 11.2.2.3, time stamp 0x5383f31a, faulting module CoreFoundation.dll, version 1.750.24.0, time stamp 0x52a28a28, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x000a9908, process id 0xdb0, application start time 0x01cf898260ec3b90.
Tried uninstall and reinstall of both iTunes and Quicktime, also reinstalled as admin for each
Tried with both 32-bit and 64-bit iTunes
Tried removing the files from C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes and C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes
Tried copying the .dll files from C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
Opened iTunes in safe mode. It was fine until I tried to view my Match tab, or update iTunes Match, then gave same crash (the error log is actually from safe mode).
It usually won’t crash until I try to view my Match tab or update iTunes Match. Also after I removed the files from the local preferences, I apparently wiped out the library file in the process, because now the only files showing in my library are the maybe 50 or so I’ve purchased through iTunes since I installed to this machine, and not the 10,000+ I’d had in the library before, and that are all uploaded to my iTunes Match, which are all on a local hard drive.
Vista Home Premium SP2 64-bit, up to date on Windows updates.

I've had this problem for months and tried the same "solutions" as drummerboydyl but also none worked.
I did as MusicaBella instructed, except all I changed was the name for #3, i couldn't find #2 to changed, and voila, it worked!
    Thanks so much MusicaBella!

  • ITunes has stopped Working when using Ipod shuffle 3gen on Windows Vista HB

Itunes keeps shutting down when I insert my Ipod shuffle into the usb connection of my latop. I am using a Windows Vista Home Basic for an OS.
Not sure if this is a Vista, Apple issue, or something else...
I have contacted apple about this and uninstaled/reinstalled Itunes. Yet after all this, I get the same error message. The message reads:
"iTunes has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
As far as I know Vista should be compatible with iTunes and it is until I actually try to use my shuffle (newest model). Its weird because my shuffle works fine on a second computer that has Windows XP for an OS...
Does anyone have a solution to this??
    Thanks in advance!

i have the same issue... but i found a workaround.. i tried 3 diff OS's . didnt change the problem. To Add apps or music to ur Ipod... simply DISCONNECT the Ipod from the PC then add files/folders to library. Then connect the ipod back to PC and sync. it has no problem adding the files that way (at least in my case) I hope this helps... Good Luck =)

I am running Windows 8.1 and iTunes 11.1.3.8.  I found a simple solution by browsing through the support communities.  Here it is:   Copy QTMovieWin.dll from:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support to: C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
This worked for me.  Good luck.

My pc is working with windos 8.
    Is there a solution?

    Hey there Rodney274,
It sounds like you are getting an error from iTunes when you launch it. I would try the troubleshooting in this article named:
iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1717
Start with troubleshooting for 3rd party plug ins section, then the rest of the article if needed:
    Start iTunes in Safe Mode
Open iTunes in Safe Mode to isolate any interference from plug-ins or scripts not manufactured by Apple.
Hold down Shift–Control while opening iTunes. You should see a dialog that says "iTunes is running in safe mode" before iTunes finishes starting up.
    Click Continue.
See if the issue you're experiencing persists in Safe Mode.
If you have the same issue while iTunes is in Safe Mode, proceed to the "Create a new user account" section. If you don't experience the same issue, follow these steps to remove third-party plug-ins.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • Itunes comes up with error message on opening "itunes has stopped working..

    Help
i have installed itunes onto my vista laptop and it stops working when opened, it comes up with an error message "itunes has stopped working microft is checking for a solution" and then closed itunes. I have followed apples advise and unistalled and installed it a few times, removed all unecessary files etc etc.

"itunes has stopped working microft is checking for a solution"
Fingers crossed, your Vista problem history may give us more information on what is going on.
Go into your Problem Reports and Solutions Control Panel, click on the Problem History, and look for iTunes problem reports that occur at the same time as those error messages. Open the problem reports. Do they all say the same thing? If so, paste the contents of a typical problem report into a reply here.

  • ITunes has stopped working error message

I WANT TO LISTEN TO MY MUSIC!!
I have spent all morning looking for solutions to this problem! uninstalled everything to to with Apple, reinstalled it all again and still nothing!!
When are Apple going to pull their finger out!
The Error message appears as soon as I click for a CD to be copied. I updated my iTunes this morning to the most recent version and that is when the problem started.
    Can anyone help?, Thankyou

The Error message appears as soon as I click for a CD to be copied. I updated my iTunes this morning to the most recent version and that is when the problem started.
There's a bug with 10.1.0.54, Danni, that is causing "iTunes has stopped working messages" (citing CoreAudioToolbox.dll in the Problem Reports for the error) for some folks when importing CDs with the AAC encoding, adding/converting files to AAC, and in some cases syncing devices (when the convert to 128 kbps AAC option is enabled).
Short of rolling back your iTunes to 10.0.1.22 and your Apple Application Support to 1.3.2 (CoreAudioToolbox.dll is kept in the Apple Application Support program files), there's a few possible workarounds.
    (1) Change your importing prefs to use a different encoding (won't help with the device syncing variation though), and/or disable the convert to 128 kbps AAC when syncing option.
    (2) Replace your CoreAudioToolbox.dll version 7.9.4.0 with a 7.9.3.0 as per:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12576816#12576816
    (3) Or, replace your CoreAudioToolbox.dll version 7.9.4.0 with a shadow copy of a 7.9.3.0 as per:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12583499&#12583499
    (4) Or, if no known-good copy of 7.9.3.0 is available and your PC doesn't have a shadow copy of the 7.9.3.0, you can replace your CoreAudioToolbox.dll version 7.9.4.0 with a 7.9.3.0 by performing some installation gymnastics with the current (11 am 18 Nov NZ time) version of the Safari 5.0.2 installer, as per:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12598386&#12598386
NB with (4) if you have a 64-bit version of Vista or 7 ... the Apple Application Support program files are instead located at:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\
(2, 3 and 4 do help with the device-syncing variation.)

  • Keep getting "itunes has stopped working" error.

Keep getting "itunes has stopped working" error. Just updated to windows 8.1, updated java (i installed java on windows 8 for work), & ran the solve a problem with itunes fix from my pc. Still crashes when i go to itunes store or try to sync my ipod. Hey Cassblue21,
Thanks for the question, and great troubleshooting so far. While you may have already attempted most of the steps outlined in this article, I wished to provide it to you just in case you missed something. The article includes great isolation steps to determine if the issue is user-specific, or system-wide. Once you have isolated the issue, a few solutions are offered:
