ITunes 7.3.2 doesn't work - just 'spins'

Two days ago, I opened my previous iTunes version (all previous versions have worked flawlessly for me) and was about to watch BSG. The auto update indicated there was a security update and the new and improved iTunes 7.3.2. I mistakenly started the download/install, and still have iTunes open. Of course it told me to close out iTunes before proceeding any further (didn't notice a cancel install option), so had to do a force quit (which states changes won't be saved...). The install went forward, and had to do a restart because of the security update. I then tried to open iTunes, it opens, I can see my data, it checks the store for any updates, but then the little spinning wheel comes on when you try to do anything, and it just freezes up and you have to force quit to stop it. Have tried waiting, reinstalling it (2x), restarting, lots of little things, but cannot get it to work.
Somebody help the ignorant out please!!!

OK, got it figured out (I think and so far).
RECAP: Was downloading the new and improved iTunes 7.3.2 last week. STUPIDLY had iTunes open at the same time (that's when the software update came on, after opening iTunes). Had to "force quit" during the install. Downloaded a security patch at the same time. Was using the Internet during. After restarting (due to the security update), I tried to open iTunes, it would always open, load and then freeze up thus had to always "force quit".
Tried everything I could think of and stuff found under Support and Apple Discussions.
No Shapeshifter.
Removed iTunes, and reloaded it (in various ways). Older versions as well.
Quicktime too.
Repaired Disk Permissions via Disk Utility
Deleted iTunesX in Library/Receipts
Reloaded bundled software apps
Nothing really worked.
Then just "moved" the iTunes Library file, and iTunes created another one and it worked! So I guess I gotta rebuild my iTunes set-up, but so far, so good. One other Message (iTunes LIbrary damaged...) on this site cited the same problem and said his/her file said "corrupted" and it kept corrupting the new ones, mine never indicated that it was bad, it just hung everything up. I will keep testing it, but have watched a bit of BSG and so far, so good. So happy again.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:

You need to have iPhoto 11 v9.6 (which you can get from the App Store) to use iPhoto on Yosemite. If you already have iPhoto 11 then the update is free. Otherwise it's a purchase.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

after upgrading from ITunes6 on ITunes 7 my videos doesn´t work. there are no error messages, popups or ballons. songs are no problem, only the videos?!
    Can somebody help me?
    Thanks

hmmmm. let's try checking to see if they will still play in your current version of QuickTime.
in itunes, right-click on one of the videos that is causing the grief, and select "Show in Windows Explorer".
right click the icon of the file in the Explorer window that comes up and select "Open With ...", and try to open it with your QuickTime player. does it play there or do you get funny business with that too?

  • Can't access iTunes Store: New Safari doesn't work on my version of Mac!

    Hey guys.
I'm a new owner of an iPhone, and i was just planning to purchase an app. I opened the itunes store tab on my iTunes... i have to download the newest version of Safari.
Okay. So i went and did that on the Mac Download site. I selected the Leopard option. Open up...
Halfway through the installation process, it tells me that my Version is doesn't work. It only works on Mac OS X 10. 5.8 ?!
    What i am doing wrong?

Update your OSX to 10.5.8. It is free to update. It is suggested that you d/l the 'combo' update. This will make sure all required files are installed with the update.
Once that is done you should be able to install the version of Safari that you have d/l.

  • Installed iTunes 7.3.2 - doesn't work

I recently installed the latest iTunes and whenever I open it, it immediately freezes and goes to "not responding" status and I have to ctrlaltdel it closed. I'm not running any fancy software, just doesn't work. Should I uninstall and redownload it, will I lose all my info if I do that?
    Thanks for any help...

Okay. Sometimes if iTunes is trying to download a (slightly dodgy) podcast file while it is doing the library update, it will hang on "updating library".
Usually when that's afoot the hang seems to happen right at the very beginning of the "updating library" process.
If that's what's happening, this might be of some help. Disconnect from the internet (or your network) and try launching iTunes again. Does the library update go through properly then? if so, try quitting itunes, reconnecting to the internet/network and launching iTunes again. Does it still launch properly?

  • 15gb ipod + iTunes 6.02+ Updater = doesn't work

I have tried all 5 suggestions from apple for my ipod and it just doesn't work. I connected my ipod with the firewire like always it turns on, but doesn't show up on my itunes nor does it connect to the updater. I'm at my wits end. I still have room for approximately 1500 songs so I don't want to go get a new one, but, i'm reading abot so many problems with the new version of itunes ans the updater that i'm beginning to wonder. I just want to be able to listen to the albumd I downloaded this weekend whilst at work. Can someone help me before I pull my hair out? And yes, I work just 4 1/2 blocks from the apple store.

    Hi
Try to format your iPod, then reconnect it with your computer, hope your iTunes 7 recognizes it.
    Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool”.

  • Itunes on new computer doesn't work

Just setb up a new Imac and Itunes doesn't work.  Says it is because it was copied from a previous Itunes.  If want to download just do so, but I don't get an option at all.

    Hello Myrita
Check to make sure that iTunes is up to date. Alternatively, you could create a new iTunes library and then import the media that is already on the iMac. The articles below will assist you further.

  • ITunes 11.0.3 asks for password again and again, have re-done my credit card details, have changed my Apple ID password, tried to log in and out of iTunes, none of thos seem to work, just keeps happening without end, please help

I have tried to re-install iTunes 11.0.3 at least 6 times.
I have also downloaded iTunes 11.0.3 at least 5 times.
I have changed my Apple ID password.
I have downloaded (again, I've done that many times) iTunes 11.0.3, then I switched off the iMac, then restarted the wi-fi modem.  Switched on the iMac, loaded iTunes, same problem.
I tried to just switch off the wi-fi, did the same as point above, same problem.
Even tried to change the system date to 2038, this only seemed (although I doubt it) to fix the "not responding" issue which I had this morning.
The Apple ID password issue, where it asks me for the password loads and loads of times (probably 50 times or more), one after the other has been happening for about 3 days now.
Here is a copy of my message problem:
iTunes Problem, can't seem to find a solution online.
I am running OS X 10.8.3 on an iMac, have just loaded iTunes 11.0.3 a few days ago.
Firstly, I'd open iTunes and it would immediately say it was not responding, I'd have to force quit, try again, re-boot, try again etc.  I tried re-installing iTunes, changing password, everything to no avail, then changed my date to 2038, and voila it started responding (no, don't ask me, I just read in online and was desperate enough to try it).  Of course, I don't believe that this actually helped, I would like to know what did help or if there is something specific one needs to do to fix this.
I have not been able to get rid of this problem:  Whenever I try to make a purchase it asks for my Apple ID password, dozens of times until I give up and press cancel, cancel, cancel.
Why does it do this?  I don't want to purchase anything because I can't keep typing in my password again and again.  I'm not exaggerating.
As I mentioned, I have tried to re-install iTunes, about 6 times, and I changed my password.  I still get the same problem.
Also, my iTunes still looks like the classical iTunes and doesn't have the new interface.
Has anyone experienced this and was able to fix it, or does anyone know what the problem is?  Please help, I'm at my wits end.

Because too much time has passed I can't edit this into the prior comment, but here is the info regarding reverting to iTunes 11.0.2 (assuming you do have a time machine backup) from https://discussions.apple.com/message/22057703#22057703
    W. Raider wrote:
    Repairing permissions doesn't fix it.
I reverted to the previous version, 11.0.2.
    1. Quit the new crash-prone iTunes.
    2. Delete the app.
    3. Restore v. 11.0.2 with Time Machine.
    4. In your iTunes folder look for a folder called "Previous iTunes Libraries", find the latest one.
    5. In the iTunes folder itself you'll see "iTunes Library.itl", delete it (or compress it and save a copy for later just in case.
    6. Copy the newest .itl file in Previous iTunes Libraries to the iTunes folder and rename it "iTunes Library.itl".
    7. Launch the older version of iTunes.
My crashing has seemed to have ceased with a revert to an older version. I noticed today that the newer crashing iTunes had been launched for hours but not playing anything, when I played internet radio it crashed within 5mins, fed up I reverted to an older version.
Btw, a simpler way to do this is to revert to older iTunes app, then hold Option when it launches and choose an older library.

  • ITunes 10.4.1 DOESN'T WORK!!

I had problems with 10.4.0.80 and had to revert back to 10.3.1 but I tried 10.4.1 anyway like an idiot.  Same problems as before - backup doesn't work, iTunes wouldn't recognize phone, blah blah blah.  Two more hours (so far) wasted on bad software.
I hope Tim Cook is watching!!  iPhone/iPad + bad iTunes = bad iPhone/iPad
In case anyone knows the voodoo needed to make this work, I'm running Vista 32 with iPhone 4 and iPad 2.

Maybe this discussion will help until Mr. Cook's team fixes ITunes 10.4.1

  • ITunes 9 and 8 won't work - just reinstalled Windows XP

    Hi all,
I feel I'm going mad here. All night I was reinstalling Windows XP on my sister's Dell Inspiron 1520. As far as I know, I've put on all the correct drivers and bios in the right order.
This morning, I checked everything was working. Lo' and Behold, iTunes isn't. I read that a lot of people are having the same problem with iTunes 9. But I have tried just installing iTunes 8.2.1, but this didn't work either.
Each time I click the itunes icon, I get an hourglass, then a lot of nothing. It's there in processes running (iTunes 9 at approx 45000k and 8 at 25000k). But other than that it won't do anything.
The only thing out of the ordinary on this laptop is the Seven Transformation Pack. But I don't see how that would affect the running of itunes.
I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling many times, I've tried rebooting the computer and trying an older version. And now I've just run out of steam. Anyone have any ideas where to go from here? Please don't say reinstall windows!!!
    Thanks
    Charlie

    Ditch the seven transformation pack.
    +OK, I figured it out.+
+I removed Windows Live Sync from the system. Judging by the registry errors I was seeing when iTunes was trying to sync, it looks as if iTunes 9 has a problem playing nice with other resident syncing utilities.+
+After that I removed iTunes 9 and the went ahead and re-installed it, thusly no longer offering any chance of a sync conflict with (now departed) Windows Live Sync.+
+I wish Apple Support would have told me about this when I called them originally.+
