ITunes 7.4.1.2 causes fatal crash on Vista

Hi, just installed a new version 7.4.1.2 and while itunes is creating the library Vista crashes and reboots. Not even a blue screen. What could be the problem?
Thanks, Oliver

Same thing happened to me. Did the 7.4 update last night. Seemed to go ok. The update wanted a restart to finish the update. But then Vista wouldn't come back up. Finally after several restart attempts Vista went into a recover mode and fixed itself, which I would imagine took off the update and put files back the way they were before the update. All fine again. Tonight I get the 7.4 update popup again. No way! Not until I hear something about this. Scared the living out of me last night. Hope somebody knows something about this.

  • ITunes 9.1 (64-bit) causing BSOD crashes with Windows 7

I installed iTunes 9.1 (64-bit) this evening and my computer running Windows 7 (64-bit) repeatedly experienced the blue screen of death (BSOD). The computer would restart in safe mode. Upon restart, the BSOD would occur again within a few minutes.
iTunes was successfully installed and was operable up until the blue screen.
I completed a system restore and my system is stable once again. However, certain iTunes files were removed and now iTunes will not function.
Does anyone have a link to an iTunes 9.0.3 for Windows 7 (64-bit)?
Has anyone experienced a similar problem and have a solution that allows 9.1 to work without crashing my machine?

    FF,
I had the exact same problem. I upgraded iTunes to 9.1 and it caused a BSOD. I booted into Windows Safe Mode (Hit F8 as soon as you see the Windows start up screen) and disabled the itunes services. Rebooted and the system is now working. I'm not sure what the deal is with the iTunes 9.1 but it definately breaks Windows 7.

  • Just found this forum! StageWebView causes fatal crash in AIR on Android

    Hi,
I posted here http://forums.adobe.com/message/5144040#5144040 but then found this, better, forum when googling for others who'd found the same.
Essentially, I have a URL that I know a) has a redirect b) may have a security cert issue with some of the content it loads. When I launch this URL in a StageWebView in Nexus 7 running the latest Android OS, it wipes out fatally without any warning, notification etc... It just goes. Gone. Dead. Bang.
I am trying to get to the bottom of this, but need to work out first if it is OS, StageWebView, Nexus or what... I know I can open the same URL in Xoom without issue (other than the cert notification) but that is a slightly earlier OS release and different hardware.
    G

Thanks for the heads up.  Could you please open a new bug report on this over at bugbase.adobe.com?  When adding the bug, please include some sample code and the URL in question so we test this out internally.  If you'd like to keep this private, feel free to email me the sample code/url directly ([email protected]).
Once added, please post back with the URL so that others affected can add their comments and votes.
    Thanks,

  • Java print caused JVM crash on Vista platform with JDK 1.5.0_14

    Platform: JDK 1.5.0_14 + Vista
The issue didn't exit in windows XP or 2003. It's only Vista specific.
I found the bugs (6358747/6574633 and 6395356) in SUN’s official site. SUN developer only fixed the bug 6358747/6574633 for XP (fixed in JDK 1.5.0_11 and 1.6) and marked the bug 6395356 for Vista as duplicate, that is, the bug for Vista was not fixed at that time. In the meanwhile I ran the code posted in the bug report (6358747/6574633) with JDK 1.5.0_14 on vista. The issue still occurred. That means, 6395356 was not actually a duplicate of 6358747/6574633.
    http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6358747 or http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6574633 - For XP
    http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6395356 - For Vista
Currently I knew the bug for vista has been fixed in higher JDK version (1.5.0_18 or above). But our application is based on 1.5.0_14 and we didn't solve the issue by upgrading the JDK version because some other reasons. So I would like to know if there is a workaround?
In addition, the bug for XP has a workaround posted in the bug report link. But I didn't find the similar settings for Vista. Anyone could help me?
    *[Workaround for XP]*
Control Panel->Regional and Language Options->Lanuages Tab-> Pressed "Details..."
to bring up the "Text Services and Input Languages" dialog and there select

The only solution for a bug is to install a version in which it is fixed. In this case I would highly recommend making the effort to upgrade to Java 6, as Java 5 is end of life already and with good reason: its ancient technology. What are you going to do otherwise? Keep using Java 5 until you phase out your software? The problems are only going to grow as time passes and will ultimately cost you a lot more money than it will do right now to make the upgrade efforts.

  • ITunes 9.2 causes fatal error and "blue screen of death"

I installed Itunes 9.2 this morning and whenever I tried accessing this version of Itunes, my system hangs and showed me the infamous “blue screen of death”. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Itunes but nothing seems to work.
Anyone encountering this problem and is there any way to solve this? Thanks!

I was using v9.1.1.12 and could not synch my iphone with outlook although with other versions there was no problem so was keen to install the new version of iTunes yesterday (9.2.0.61). Installation went fine, iTunes opened up perfectly and read my music library and hey presto synched my phone with outlook. I was well pleased. Closed down itunes and went back to working A couple of hours later as my secretary had updated my calendar I plugged in my iphone and itunes started to open then.... disaster. The blue screen appeared.
I restarted again, and again and again and the same thing happens everytime iTunes was opened (independently or when plugging my iphone in). Tried 4 times.
I did a repair using itunes installer. No change stilled blue screened when opened. I then had the bright idea of uninstalling iTunes totally and reinstalling. No change - itunes begins to open then causes blue screen.
The next step I uninstalled itunes. Did a disk defrag and then thought I would reinstall version 9.1.1.12 and install the newer version over the top. But hey you have guessed it, the older version would not open because the library it was using had been created with a newer version i.e. v9.2.0.61 - nice one iTunes!!
So at the moment I have no iTunes at all so am stuffed. So, iTunes solves one problem but creates another. Do they ever check these things???
    Help!!

  • Ongoing fatal crash and security bug related to connecting external display

The infrastructures in OS X to resume from sleep, to authenticate, and to change displays is fundamentally not working.
The security bug I have encountered has to do with connecting a cinema display exclusively to a MacBook Pro. This is a specific situation, but please note that I have experienced the same problem on no fewer than three independent laptop. Plus, the Genius in the Apple Retail Store was convinced of the general instability of this infrastructure. The security problem is that hot corners no longer function if I transition between two states in the same reboot. The first state is where I have the laptop powered on and using its own internal display exclusively (when I'm on the road). The second state is when I have the laptop displaying its output exclusively on an external display (when I'm at home). What happens is that an attempt to use hot corners fails. There is no response. I even added configuration on all four corners (whereas I originally had settings only for the rightmost corners), and even then, the hot corner action (of sleeping the display or entering locked screen saver mode) does not commence. This prevents the user from being able to secure the display on demand using standard methods that are supposed to work.
The instability level related to connecting the external display exclusively is high. Again, I've experienced this on no fewer than three independent laptops, and the Apple Genius at the Retail Store confirmed that this aspect of OS X did not work consistently. When I want to connect the cinema display to the laptop in such a way that the laptop's own display is not part of the active screen, the process I use succeeds about half the time. Supposing I have been on the road, where I am using the laptop display exclusively. I then put the laptop to sleep. When I return home with the lid open, I connect first the USB (power) from the cinema display to the laptop, and then I connect the Mini DisplayPort. When that step works, what happens is that the login screen shows on the cinema display despite the fact that my laptop lid is closed. This is good, and is what I want. At that point, I open the laptop lid and quickly log in.
With Apple being a mobile device company, I rely on the laptop for tasks that one traditionally may use a desktop for. This simply points to the versatility of the laptop. But I'd like the bugs resolved, so that I do not have to hesitate to make use of the inherent flexibility possible with the MacBook Pro.
Here's what happens when the process (of connecting the external display in a way that establishes itself as the only screen in use by OS X) fails. Firstly, when I connect the external display via Mini DisplayPort, the laptop doesn't even respond. Instead, it remains asleep. So to work around it I have to repeatedly disconnect and reconnect the Mini DisplayPort so that the asleep MacBook Pro will see that there is a display connected to it. Also, sometimes that isn't even enough and I have to open the laptop lid, and put it to sleep again so as to trigger whatever actions are necessary to recognise the external display (presumably by having the laptop recently awake). Around half the time, I have to play this game of disconnecting and reconnecting until it actually works. This high level of reproducibility (confirmed by the Apple Genius representative's confidence that this part of the system doesn't actually work) should make it easy for an engineer to look into the problem.
Fatally, and recently, OS X has completely crashed when I have attempted to connect the external display. The external display has gone completely blue, and after a half a minute, it blanked out and my entire laptop became unresponsive. I called Apple Support and was given a case number. I also took the laptop into the retail store to see if I could recover my current session without rebooting. There was no process suggested to make that happen and I was told to reboot the machine. I've had this happen before on other laptops, and it is frustrating that the kernel reaches such a state that it cannot be used. As I see it, this problem is not too unrelated to the way that I need to play a game in order to get the external display connected exclusively. Here are some workarounds that could be added:
Firstly, whenever I connect an external display, I'd like the laptop to see that this has happened, and to take action accordingly (such as resuming from sleep). Secondly, If I connect an external keyboard, and press a key on it, I'd like this to wake the laptop too (in the event that the first method fails for some unforeseen reason). I'd also like the connection of the cinema display's USB power not to cause the laptop to enter into a confused state between asleep and awake. Sometimes I need to disconnect and reconnect USB power in order to trigger the laptop into waking, but that's only because it's not doing it on its own properly. On the other hand, I also ensure that the laptop doesn't have the Mini DisplayPort connected without also having the cinema display USB power connected, because that also is an unsupported configuration.
I've also gotten the laptop to become confused about whether it is asleep or awake. When I open the lid, it seems to enter into sleep mode, but closing it seems to bring it into an active state.
Also, I've successfully logged on and authenticated with the screen showing exclusively on the external display. But just ten seconds after I start using the system, the laptop falls asleep--with the lid open! Whatever triggers that action doesn't seem to be on track. The laptop is open, there are incoming events such as mouse movements and key presses, and the external display is on and is in use. And then the laptop falls asleep! This has happened numerous times. Not only should this not happen; the instances where it does happen can cause further instability and put my system at risk of fatally crashing.
Also, the authentication system itself is highly buggy--far more than it should be. At times I have opened the laptop lid and caught a glimpse of a window before I have begun the login process. Also, an external authentication application that asks for Kerberos/AFS login credentials has been able to overlay itself on top of the primary authentication (whereas I should only see a single login dialog when I need to authenticate to the system). Also, I've had several of these authentication screens overlay on top of one another, although it's been months since I've experienced that one (so it may have been fixed). Also, around a third of the time, the window that authenticates me (on the black background) somehow transfers itself into the background (even though there's only one window!). What that means is what I begin to type my password, and now the laptop starts beeping at me and I need to manually click on the password field and begin entering my password again. This really shouldn't happen, and indicates too much complexity in this authentication process (such as, more OS X code is involved than is strictly necessary, which is likely to make the authentication system more difficult to test). Also, at times, I have been using too much CPU, such that the authentication screen takes too long to emerge. That also means that I'm not able to logon until I uncleanly shutdown the laptop. If the laptop has been asleep, and is revived in preparation for login, then that login screen should be given highest priority, even if there are other heavy CPU or I/O intensive tasks running in the background. And maybe the login dialog shouldn't disappear when the user is legitimately attempting to log in. So even if there is a possibility that the system is under heavy resource use (or there is a stall or minor deadlock), it shouldn't prevent the user from logging in altogether.
At the moment, the very fact that the system shut down uncleanly means that the full disk encryption suite that I used has entered into an undetermined state, suggesting I may lose access to all my data. It's my hope that I can rely on Apple's products to interoperate in a way that won't cause me to be fearful and restrictive in my use, so that I can freely connect an external display at times, and at other times carry the laptop on the road.

Ive got the same problem with Samsung UE225010 monitor too, its full hd but it looks terrible, could it be Displayport adapter issue, because couple month ago Ive tryed with some IPS display, and it looked same bad.

  • Fatal crash

Problem: One of my Word 2004 doc- files crashes Pages 08 a BIG time. After crashing a couple of times, the whole Leopard became unresponsive. Nothing worked, no keyboard, no mouse... all dead (It's another story, but how can an application do such a fatal crash for the OS? I thought Mac OS X will still operate, though one application crashes...)
Ok. After a violent shutdown and restart of my dear iMac, I tried saving the troublesome word-doc in a text-only .txt-file. But Pages crashed again on opening the file and trying to scroll the document. Whooah!
Question: How am i supposed to transfer that word-doc to a Pages-document? Where should I begin to dissect the file? Will graphics cause that? or some font, or what? The file is 51 pages long and includes numerous screenshots and text. Nothing fancy...
    Help, anyone?

Well, to continue this monologue, I seem to have managed to import that document into Pages without further crashes. First I removed all the formatting in Word 2004 and then imported that using Pages 06. And then I opened it in Pages 08 and saved the document. I keep fingers crossed to have resolved the issue, but so far so good.
Anyway, has anyone had any problems importing Word documents, apart from formatting-issues?

Or better yet... try a search, I'm certain you'll find a solution to whatever issue you're experiencing.
I have found that many times it is the things that make you most angry that push you to action. This was the case here. Thank you for causing me to get so angry that I found the answer myself.

  • Changing numeric control representation causes fatal internal error.

Has anyone seen this problem.  In the attached program the control at the top of the front panel named "Part Number" is a U64 which was part of an earlier program.  I wanted to change the representation of the control since I don't need a U64 so I tried to change it to a U8 or any other unsign number and get an fatal internal error which closes the program.  The error screen is also attached.  Is this a know issue?  Is there a work around the problem?  Just not sure why changing this control's representation would cause such a error?  Please let know if this has been seen before.

    Hey Gary,
Sorry to hear that you're experiencing this error. This could be related to a known LabVIEW 2010 issue with case structure selectors having their representation changed. A Corrective Action Request for that particular issue has been filed for this so that it can be looked at for future versions. The workaround is to delete and re-add the case structure (just the one where the Part Number is the case selector, located in your "WaitStart" state). Basically, the case structure gets corrupted causing the crash.
I wasn't able to reproduce this on my machine, however I had to cull a lot of your code to run it here due to missing subVIs, etc. Let me know if deleting and re-adding the case structure fixes your issue and hopefully we can get to the bottom of this.

If you still have the crashed Win computer, you may be able to recover your music and movies from the hard drive. If you have a friend with a hard drive USB connection kit and a PC, they should be able to help.  Otherwise, check locally for computer services that might do that for you (I think Best Buy Geek Squad may be able to help). If the drive itself is in good shape, it shouldn't be too expensive.

I have files that are freezing my programs (adobe; after effect and photoshop, as well as maxon cinema 4d). Whenever I try to import ANY file from within the program it doen't even let me select the file I need before freezing. I have moved all files off my desktop and into my dropbox, and it now allows me to import files/search for files on the desktop but NOT dropbox, once I go to dropbox it freezes again. This has happened a couple of times and each time I have to move all my files off my desktop, so there must be a type of file doing this, I just don't know what files they are.

  • Using Disk Warrior on external drive causes MacBook crash

I work on MacBook System 10.6.7, I back up to LaCie external drive, which I partitioned so that one partition is only for backup, the other is bootable. On this partition I have a clone of Disk Warrior (4.1), to use on the MacBook .
Today I ran DW from the MacBook on the external drive for the first time, because lately it happens that the backup partition does not always appear in the finder (still performs back up though). I applied it first to the boot-partition,  and it told me there were some problems. When it got to replacing the directory, the computer crashed mid way.
I performed Disk Verify on that partition through Disk Utility, and it said that it needed repair, and then that it did repair it. Checked other partition, no problem.
Tried again to rebuild directory for the external drive, and both partitions caused the MacBook to crash. I then booted from the external drive to see if it works, and ran DW on the MacBook, and had no problem there.
Anybody can tell me if it is the MacBook that caused the crash, or if the problem is with the external, and if there is anything else I can try to sort it out?
