ITunes 7.4.1 (2) & iPod 5th gen Error - Not playing complete lists.

I have on my computer over 3000 songs, and 12 movies... on my iPod I have the identical setup. When I upgraded to 7.4.1 (2) I found that my iPod now no longer plays all the lists. My music list which only has 152 songs plays only 22 of them on my iPod...
When I play an audio book that has over 100 files to its name, it only plays 20 of them... I have restored the iPod twice, formated and restored it once, and this still happens.
Anyone have a clue why?

I finally stumbled across a fix for this problem, and in case someone else is frustrated at some point by a similar issue I'm posting what finally worked to enable me to bring iTunes up at any time (without rebooting first).
The solution was to go to the preferences to uncheck "search for shared libraries".
I'm glad the problem is fixed, but Apple developers really should include a timeout function on iTunes search for a shared libraries. At least a visual dialog to confirm that the application is in the process of searching for a shared library on the network would help provide clues as to what is causing the spinning beach ball to appear right about the time the application window should pop up.

  • IPod 5th gen will not play (clock stuck at 0:00)

So I've seen similar postings here about this. My 30GB 5th gen iPod just started acting up by not playing any song at all -- the song timer stays stuck at 0:00.
First I've reset the iPod -- doesn't play afterwards.
Then I restored the iPod -- still doesn't work.
I tried playing with earphones plugged in -- nope.
How about through the iPod dock connector? -- nope.
However, I can tell the HD drive inside is OK -- I can sync the iPod, erase and add songs, and even play songs within iTunes from the iPod.
Has my iPod gone or is there a way to salvage the situation? I use my iPod every day! Any guidance would be much appreciated!

First, to Athena53, these forums are user to user forums and besides Apple employees who monitor the forums for content, they generally do not answer questions here.
Second, my own experience with the counter stuck at 0:00 is there is a bug in the 5th generation iPod firmware where when you wake up the iPod, plug in the headphones, then try to play something, it will often get stuck at 0:00. A reset of the iPod gets it out of that state.
The work around is that the problem is plugging in the headphones first. Instead I start the iPod playing, THEN plug in the headphones and I never get the problem. And I have verified that it always occurs when the headphones are plugged in first then hitting play after the iPod wakes up.

On the left side of the Now Playing screen right below the scrubber bar is the repeat control. It is the arrowed racetrack icon. Tap the icon until it is white for no repeat.

I have seen the Apple webpage suggesting the "five R's" (including restore).  Before doing anything, I want to be sure that restoring or any other action is not going to delete or risk my data.
I would be very grateful if anyone can suggest a fix for this problem, in a way that will not risk my data.
    Thanks in advance!

Did you try a hard reset with the iPod still connected to your PC?  Have you tried multiple USB ports, preferably high powered USB 2.0 ports?
To do a hard reset, first make sure the hold switch is in the Off position, then press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • My iPod 5th gen is not turning on after iOS 8 update!

My iPod 5th gen is not turning on after iOS 8 update! Before this all happened, I noticed that my apps crashed unexpectedly, it was laggy, and it decides to reset on its own at times. I CAN'T charge or plug it into my computer. Also, my home button is sunk in but my sleep/wake button at the top is most definitely not. I am trying to fix an iPod 5th gen. So far I have gotten iTunes to recognize it, but it needs to be restored to factory defaults. • Ipod 5th Gen will not sync movies from Itunes...

I've had this Ipod for a couple of years now and the only way I've been able to put movies on is through a few programs that I've downloaded. I've bought a few movies off of the Itunes store and every time I put it on the iPod, the iPod freezes up, and then sometimes my iPod loses all of it's content. The iPod and iTunes are both up-to-date, is this just an issue with the 5th gens?

Are these HD movies? iPods can only handle SD movies.
Some store downloads include both versions. They will show HD-SD next to them. If so, right-click > Version and make sure SD is checked.
if it just shows HD, you should be able to use the Advanced menu to create an iPod or iPhone version.

  • TS1538 Newest itunes refuses to recognize my ipod 5th gen

Recently, through no changes on my own part, iTunes has ceased to recognize when my iPod touch 5th gen is plugged in. My windows computer recognizes the device just fine, but itunes is being incredibly frustrating.
I have run the gauntlet of personal troubleshooting, so linking articles is unlikely to help.
    1) I have tried deleting all files associated with Apple and reinstalling the latest itunes
    2) I have tried charging my iPod until it is 100% and trying the above
    3) I have tried manually updating all my apple device drivers, usb drivers, any drivers remotely linked to my ipod being plugged in.
    4) I have tried manually forcing my iPod into recovery mode (itunes WILL recognize this) BUT recovery will fail due to "unknown error 1611".
    5) I have tried going into settings and doing a factory reset on my iPod. All that happens is it hangs indefinitely on a black loading screen
    6) forgot to add, I have tried EVERY SINGLE USB port available on my machine, and no difference, the device remains unrecognized.
So what's left? It seems my only option is to bring it into the Apple store.

i have a 3rd generation ipod and my girlfriend has a 2G nano, both of which stopped being recognized by itunes immediately after i installed itunes 7.0.2 (shocking). After some research and playing around i did find a workaround. Plug your ipod in and wait for "Do Not Disconnect". Right click on My Computer and select manage. On the left hand side towards the bottom select Disk Management. Next you should see the name of your ipod in the middle section, right click on it and select Change Drive Letter and Path. Next Click the Add button and choose a drive letter not being used by your computer (Q usually is available) and press OK. Close the Computer Management window and open itunes, you should see you ipod and should be able to update it.
As far as I can tell, you have to do this each time you plug you ipod in, but it does work.
    Good Luck!

My ipod was fine working on windows vista, but i recently bought a brand new computer, operating system windows 7 premium 64bit. Tried most things, resetting ipod or using disk mode has no effect either.
Plugging my ipod in never got detected, not even as a storage device. So after installing the latest itunes software (itunes for windows 64bit) it still would not be detected by both windows in my computer and itunes.
in device manager though under disk drives it shows "apple ipod usb device".
under storage volumes it shows "unknown device"
and under USB controllers it shows "Apple mobile device USB driver"
I searched the internet before coming here, all i could find was uninstall every single bit of apple software, unplug the ipod then reinstall itunes etc, i tried all this but had bo success.
Obviously the ipod is fine as it works in my old pc and charges in this new one.
Thanks to all who can offer advice.

  • My ipod 5th Gen won't play some songs

5th gen. nano won't play songs that play perfectly fine in itunes library, help?
i have a new 5th generation nano and the most recent version of itunes. i just downloaded a bunch of songs that play fine in my itunes library but when i try to listen to them on my ipod, it immediately skips to another song. only a few of the songs that i synched actually play. i have tried deleting them from my ipod and my itunes library and then adding them back to the library and resynching but i am still having this problem. can anyone tell me what is wrong and what i can do to fix this? thanks for the help.

Check what format they're in and try converting them to AAC (you can do this by right clicking the song that isn't working & selecting create AAC version). I just started having this problem with MP3s that were playing just fine a couple of hours ago, so i converted them to AAC and now they work just fine. Hope this helps you.

  • Ipod touch 5th gen will not play songs correctly

So I got a new ipod touch 5th gen for christmas.  When I put songs into a playlist and play them they dont always play in the correct order, or sometimes they dont play at all.  I had no problems with it the first week I had it but then all of a sudden it didnt play the music correctly.  It will skip one song and then play another song a second time in place of it.   Then sometimes it will randomly skip the last bit of a song and go to a different one but when I go in and look at the songs being played it says its still playing the song that it decided to skip.  It also will play the songs in a different order than what I put them in along with the previous problems listed ocurring.  Please let me know if theres anything I can do to fix this or if I should send it in to apple or maybe even take it back and exchange it for a different one.  Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions!!!

  • IPod 5th Gen will not recognize the fact that it actually has music on it

This question has been asked before, but not answered. With that in mind, I will ask you this: Though my iPod does definitely have 18 gigs of music on it, as I can see them when I choose to view it as a portable media device, or whatever, and search manually through windows explorer, it will not recognize the music in either iTunes or on my iPod. I have not restored my iPod because that would be a pain. I have had it for no more than two weeks and this occurrence has made me very upset. It happened when I was working on a playlist. There was a beep sound as if it had ejected and then the black and white screen with the apple came on as if it had been reset. Subsequently, all music disappeared from the iTunes sub menu of my iPod. Furthermore, even though in the "about" on my iPod it says there is music there, I can not see it. When that happened there was a windows message saying that there was a corrupted file and that I should use the "chkdisc" feature. I did that, and nothing was fixed. Please help. But again, it would be better to restore. Also, 3rd party software does not always work flawlessly.
To fix the error that came up, along with getting your music to show back up properly (without the risks of 3rd party software), you need to restore your iPod. If all of your music is on your computer/in iTunes, you won't loose any of it.

If the iPod was just not showing you the songs even though they are there, the first option would be better. However, since you are getting the chkdsk error, you should/need to restore your iPod.

  • My ipod 5th gen is not being recognised by any PC

I have tried connecting to 3 different PCs with several different original cables. I have tried disk mode, reinstalling itunes, resetting ipod, restarting the apple services - every suggestion I have been able to find. When connected it charges but no message appears on the ipod screen. Haven't been able to restore the ipod as it is never recognised. It plays music normally and was connecting normally up until last week. It hasn't ben exposed to water or dropped etc (to my knowledge).
