ITunes 7.4.2 slows my computer to molasses.

After upgrading, it takes a full minute to open iTunes. Not just iTunes though, it takes thiry seconds to open Internet Explorer and near triple the load time of all other applications. I was able to get rid of the lag for other programs by disabling Apple's bloatware processes iTuneshelper.exe and such, but it still slows down iTunes when it is opened.
I can't install an older version, the iTunes library isn't compatable with older versions.
The cover flow feature does about 2 fps. totally useless.
What do I do?

No, that's not it. The requirements for iTunes are:
32-bit editions of Windows XP or Vista
Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later required for Apple TV or iPhone
500 MHz Pentium class processor or better
QuickTime 7.1.6 or later (included)
256MB RAM
Supported CD-R or DVD-R drive to burn CDs
Broadband Internet connection (DSL/Cable/LAN) for buying and streaming music
My machine far exceeds these requirements. I also run more powerful apps without problems. The stuttering and freezing only occurs when iTunes and I.E.7 are running at the same time. I assume there is a compatibility problem. I was hoping that there may be a registry setting which prevents iTunes from hogging so many resources.

  • Maverick slowed my computer to molasses and now won't install

I am so mad that I went for the upgrade, it's cost me a day's pay so far trying to get it to run. At first, my Adobe apps would take minutes to open and everything was just running ridiculously slow. My iTunes would open at Login along with Excel and Spotlight was stuck in indexing mode. I rebooted in safe mode Command R and ran disc utility and went to reinstall the system again, after 48 minutes the progress bar was almost complete and I receive a warning message that the software failed to download. Aaaaarrrgfhhh%&*(())_)!!!!!
Anybody out there suffering like me?

  • ITunes store is extremely slow. Downloads and browsing the store is slow.

Prior to iTunes 7, I had no problems with iTunes whatsoever. Now, just like many other users, the iTunes store is unbelievably slow.
When I start up iTunes and select the iTunes store, it takes about 20 seconds to load up the store. If I try to preview a song, it instantly gives me the message "Network Stalled, Rebuffering Stream".
When I try and download anything, it is painfully slow. It takes about 15-20 minutes to download one song and movies and TV shows are impossible since they will eventually time out.
I even tried setting my router up using the OpenDNS addresses and iTunes is still slow. I contacted my ISP and they informed me that they are not blocking any ports associated w/ iTunes. Like I said, I had no problems with iTunes prior to iTunes 7.
This affects both my PC and my laptop. If I plug them directly into the internet without a router it's still the same issue. However, if I take my laptop over to a friend's house who has a different ISP it's completely fine and downloads fast again.
I've spoken with tech support for my ISP and they tell me there is nothing they can do, and to "hope that iTunes 8 comes out soon"
So, is there anything I can do on my side, other than the OpenDNS option since it doesn't work? I'm extremely angry at this situation and don't know why iTunes 7 changed something to where it conflicts with so many people's ISP.

If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes, and see if it is working now.

  • ITunes Store is extremely slow

Accessing the iTunes Store is extremely slow. Even after emptying the cache, accessing the store or downloading content is slow. Songs that usually take a matter of minutes to download show an estimated completion of 10 to 12 hours.
Is anyone noticing similar behavior? Any tips or ideas on a fix?
    Thanks.

My iTunes won't update on my computer. I have windows vista. I can open up itunes and when I click on "check for updates" it asks if I want to download iTunes version 11.1.5 and I click "Download iTunes" but then nothing happens. Sometimes uptop the loading bar will appear but for only a split second. I have tried restarting, shutting down, I cannot figure out why it won't download. What's happening and how do I fix it?

Try updating using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer file downloaded from the Apple website:

  • Itunes will not open on my computer the icon on desktop  has changed to a white foldertype icon. itunes is listed in programmes on my start menu but will not launch either

    please help
itunes will not open on my computer the icon on my desktop has changed to a white folder and it is still listed in start programmes but will not launch i am concerned about losing all my downloads

You music etc should not be affected by problems with the iTunes program, nevertheless it is always a good idea to backup your data.
You haven't said if there was any error message when you tried to start iTunes. If  there was one please give it in full.
Also check to see if QuickTime works, iTunes can not work without it. If QuickTime doesn't work, it has to be fixed before worrying about iTunes.
Then restart your PC and open your Task manger and select the Processes tab.
Try to start iTunes, does iTunes.exe appear on the processes tab? If so does it disappear again or remain although the programs does not open?
