ITunes 7.4.3 and Windows 2000

My computer (running Windows 2000 SP4) locked up when attempting to run the latest iTunes update. After thay, iTunes was corrupted and would not run. I removed the application via the Control Panel, and downloaded iTunes 7.4.3. The installer gives me an error, stating that it is only for Windows XP and Vista. Clicking OK leads to a box where it explains there was an error, and to try again later. The only option at that point is to click on "Finish." I've tried this several times, and ended up reverting to an older version (7.1.1.5). I don't see anywhere that Win2K is no longer supported, so I'm mystified as to the problem. I'm running for now, but concerned that this situation will lead to long term issues. Up to this time iTunes has been fine, and I've encountered no difficulties. Any help will be appreciated.

I'm shocked that Apple would force all purchasers of ANY new iPod to have to go out and buy upgrades to their OS on the windows side!
This effectively makes a $149/$199 new iPod Nano actually cost the customer a minimum of $400 ($199 for the XP upgrade).
Guys--what were you thinking? At this point (and after reading the multiple posts from many sites from customers who DID upgrade to XP only to find BIGGER problems with their XP created from the attempts to use iTunes) it seems even spending another $200+ will only cause problems beyond just not getting into iTunes. I feel like I have no choice but to return my new Nano. I cannot afford to have my whole PC crash just because Apple didn't choose to support Win2k.
Again--I dont' get the thinking here.

Everytime I open itunes I get a message saying itunes has stopped working and windows is looking for a solution

I have the same issue. An iTunes help page (iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues - Apple Support) suggested I hold down shift and control when clicking to open iTunes, which opens iTunes fine for me. That would mean the problem is in the third party plug-ins that work with iTunes. However, the help pages did not say what to do with the plug-ins once I knew that was the issue. The pages said to find the plug-ins and move them to the Desktop, which I did. That's where the help pages stopped, which is ridiculous. Does anyone know what to do from there?

  • Acrobat 3D and Windows 2000

Everyone that has the Windows 2000 operating system has problems with the Acrobat 3D models. The models were created using Windows XP and were tested using Windows XP. I am assuming that Acrobat 3D and Windows 2000 are incompatible. Adobe states Windows 2000 compatibility. Does anyone know why users with Windows 2000 are having problems with my models?
    Thanks

Yes, I have checked the version and they have Reader 7.0.8. I also checked that they have the latest version of DirectX. Of course there are a number of remote Windows2000 users, so I haven't the ability to check the service pack installations, graphics drivers, and so on. Many of these users are schedule to be upgraded to new laptops (with Windows XP installed).
I also have the most recent version of Acrobat 3D and have installed all the updates.
It seems the problems are different among different users, but everyone seems to have some type of problem when using Acrobat 3D and Win2000.

Is there a workaround to either force the device-specific version to work on Win7 of get the 6600 to work with the normal PC Suite?
Sure you can. Install in XP compatibility mode as admin.

  • How to download and use iTunes 7.4 with only Windows 2000

I have a brand-new iPod Nano (1st generation) with 4 GB capacity, given to me in 2007. I am just getting around to trying to install and use it, but when I try to download the iTunes 7.4 software, I get a message that I need at least Windows XP or Vista to install and use the software with the iPod Nano. I only have Windows 2000 on my computer, which is company owned (so I am not allowed to update my Windows software). Anyone have a solution so that I can get some level of iTunes software in order to use the iPod Nano?? PS I tried to download iTunes 6 software, but I got a message that my iPod nano needed a more recent version of the iTunes software. Same thing happened when I tried to download the iTunes 8 version of the software.

  • Will iTunes work with an old IBM Thinkpad and Windows 2000?

I am trying to set up my daughter's old ThinkPad 380XD so she can use it with her new iPod Nano. I have loaded Windows 2000 SP 4, with the latest MS updates. I have tried the iTunes setup that came on the CD with the iPod as well as downloading iTunes from the Apple website.
I have been able to get both iTunes and QuickTime installed and can launch QuickTime ok. When I try to launch iTunes, I get a message that says "iTunes.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created." When I check the event log, I do not find any entries that match the time or description of the iTunes message.
I have looked at previous posts for this problem and do not see a clear solution except to disable firewalls or anti virus programs. I don't have either operating but I do see that I only have 32Meg of RAM and iTunes would like 128Meg. Is this the cause of the problem and would it affect iTunes and not QuickTime? If RAM is the problem, is there any solution other than increasing the physical RAM?
    Thanks in advance.
      Windows 2000

Sorry, no. You would have to have 2000 at least to be compatible.
Also, iTunes will not work without QT, as QT is the playback software used by iTunes.

  • My itunes won't open in windows 2000

I just got my first ipod its a 2nd generation nano, I went to support to learn what all i neded to do to get music on it. Apple support told me to dl the latest version of itunes so i did that. After I installed it, I went to the icon and clicked it and it would not open. I tried opening it all other ways you can on a comp and all i get is a little hour glass that stays on for 3 seconds and then goes away nothing loads.
I have never had itunes on this comp ever soit couldn't be a matter of having other traces of itunes conflicting with the new version.
I did a complete uninstall and then went through all the steps to make sure there was nothing left of itunes on my comp then i put itunes 6 on my comp and it worked fine but when i plugged my nano into my comp it told me i needed itunes version7 or higher .
I am truly at a frustrated loss and any help would be greatly appreciated , I have a brand new ipod tha ti cannot use and i have been dying to have some music to listen to while at the gym.

First off does your computer met these requirements?
    Windows Requirements
Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 or later or Windows XP
500 MHz Pentium class processor or better
    QuickTime 7.1.5 (included)
    256MB RAM
Supported CD-R or DVD-R drive to burn CDs
Broadband Internet connection (DSL/Cable/LAN) for buying and streaming music
    Additional Video Requirements
2.0 GHz Pentium class processor or better
    512MB RAM
    32MB video RAM
If iTunes 6 is working fine for you and if your computer meets these requirments try downloading itunes 7 again and see if the problem repeats, if you get any error message during the install post it here that will give many here an idea of what is going on.

  • Suddenly itunes won't open on windows 2000

Within the last wk updated to new version of itunes after much frustration. Ran fine for a wk now all of the sudden it will not load???? No error message, just won't start. Please help, thank you.

    I don't get a "flash" w/ itunes but do w/ quicktime???
hmmmm. okay, this is more difficult to do in 2000 ... if you were running XP, i'd suggest trying this:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302538
    ... but i don't believe you've got MSCONFIG on 2000.
what we're doing is trying to track down weird start-up items on your PC with four- and six-letter-names that don't return any hits if you do a google on them. (there might be a new malware thing out there.) see if these techniques are helpful:

(they are more closely associated with windows problems than a program conflict, but something in there might be useful in this context.)

  • Itunes.exe has generated errors - Windows 2000 SP4

    Hi there,
    Please can someone help me??
I have been using i-Tunes 7 for some time now on my Windows 2000 machines, however, since re-installing Windows 2000, and downloading i-tunes 7 and clean installing, i-Tunes suddenly stops working in the midst of installing other essential software and updates (which were all running before re-installing Windows 2000 alongside i-tunes 7 with no problems).
When I try to load i-tunes, I get "itunes.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows, you will need to restart the program".
I have tried uninstalling i-tunes, Quicktime won't uninstall and says "Fatal Installation Error" when trying to do so. But even when re-installing or downgrading to an earlier i-tunes (i-tunes 4) - it still gives the same error message!
I am at my wit's end - I have re-installed Windows 2000 for the third time today and it will work at first, but then suddenly gives this error every time I load i-tunes.
    Please help!!
    Happy New Year
    dakku

I have tried this (I uninstalled EVERYTHING including Quicktime & Apple Update), but I am still getting the same error message.

  • 5G iPod and Windows 2000 (SP4)

I have successfully installed various iPod models to a number of Windows XP-based computers, but I am having problems installing my new 5G iPod to my Windows 2000 (SP4)-based machine.
Upon connecting the iPod to a USB 2.0 port (self-powered hub, 500 mA per port) on my machine, Windows 2000 finds the iPod and lists it in Device Manager as "? Other devices/ ? iPod" and calls for a computer restart. On restarting the computer, Windows 2000 finds the iPod, loads iTunes, and updates the iPod. However, Windows 2000 doesn't list the iPod as an "Other device" at this point, although it does show up under "Universal Serial Bus controllers" as a "USB Mass Storage Device." So far so good. But then, after a few minutes (remaining connected to the computer all the while, with iTunes running), the iPod turns itself off. iTunes still shows that the iPod is connected, but if I instruct iTunes to "Update the iPod," iTunes can't locate it and I get a "System Settings Change (new device)" window from Windows 2000 instructing me to restart my computer. Also, the iPod does not charge when connected to a USB 2.0 port unless Windows 2000 has found the iPod, listed it as an "? Other devices/? iPod" and is waiting for a restart. In this case, it charges just fine.
Is the 5G iPod truly compatible with Windows 2000 as advertised? Is there a fix for the problem that I am having? I have tried ALL recommended trouble-shooting steps several times, to no avail.

Your version of Windows is not compatible with iTunes 7.4 or the third generation iPod nano.

  • Issues with iTunes 11.1.5 and Windows 8.1

I recently upgraded my iTunes to 11.1.5 on my Windows 8.1 computer, since the upgrade iTunes has become unusable. Before the upgrade I had an occasional error, device not recognized or a download error, sometimes i had to unplug and then plug back in in my devices in order for iTunes to recognize them. I have an iPhone 4s, IPad 2, and iPod Touch all are affected by the change in iTunes.
After the upgrade none of the devices when plugged into the computer will be recognized by iTunes, even after multiple attempts I get an error that states there was a device error.  iTunes will also not download any updates from the store, nor will it download any music or movies I have purchased. I have received the following errors so far with the iTunes upgrade.
0xE800065- could not connect the device, error 8008 – unable to download update, iTunes (or other apple program) has invalid signature and will not be downloaded.
If I am able to get the device recognized in iTunes it will appear but only a yellow bar will be visible across the bottom of the screen and it will not sync or  allow me to change anything with the device. Action taken so far..
I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes TWICE, using the order and instructions provided to me by Apple support, I had to DL the file itself at a neighbor’s house since  it won’t DL here. I have tried to do the name and rename trick and this doesn’t work either, also tracking the device down in my device manager and uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers has done nothing. I have now run out the options provided to me here so far… anyone official or otherwise have anyway to get me working again??
    TY

it works at first then after trying to update a few apps (the third one this time) iTunes again stops working and gives me the 8008 error.
Okay ... let's try seeing if that one is the root cause of the errors.
Try the "Error -50," "-5000," "8003," "8008," or "-42023" section in the Specific Conditions and Alert Messages: (Mac OS X / Windows) section of the following document:
    iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting
Does that calm down the 8008s?

  • How can i run AirPort Express for both a Mac and Windows 2000 SP2?

I have my AirPort Express set up for my iMac and it runs fine. We have a house guest who has a laptop running Windows 2000 SP2. Can I set up Airport so that both computers can access internet wirelessly?

Just did a quick check of the Unofficial Averatec Support Forum. Several posters there upgraded the driver for the wireless card to support WPA on the 5110.
They used drivers from other computer manufacturers and indicated that Averatec has not provided updated drivers.
    They were running XP SP2.
Many Averatec models have weak wifi cards. Mine included. Sorry I am unable to be of more help.
    Good luck
