ITunes 7.4 & 7.4.1 don´t recognize iPods

Hello. I have 2 iPods. One U2 iPod and iPod Shuffle 2nd. generation. My problem is when I connect the iPods, one message appears and show this message: "An iPod has been detected, but it could not be identified propely. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again". I switched users to verify if this problem was of user or global and the same message appear in the admin account. The only way to recognize my ipods is return to iTunes 7.3.2, but I don´t want step back. Anyone knows what library preferences I must delete?....thanks in advance. NOTE: I have a PowerBook G4 with iTunes 7.4.1 and all works great...the iPods are recognized without problems.

I had problem with iTunes 7.4.2 not recognizing my iPod (which showed on the desktop but not in iTunes). iTunes did not automatically startup when iPod was connected. I thought I'd tried everything and was about to downdate to iTunes 7.2 but tried the tried & true fix-it since OS 6: DELETE THE PREFERENCES. Here's what I got rid of to make my iTunes recognize my iPod. I went to /User/Library/Preferences and trashed
com.apple.iPod.plist
com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist
com.apple.iTunes.plist
com.apple.iTunesHelper.plist
Then I restarted the Mac. iTunes Helper opened the iTunes Setup Assistant and I went through all of the radio buttons. It works now. Try it.

  • Itunes don't recognize ipod classic

Itunes don't recognize my Ipod Classic 160 gb. The Ipod appears on the desktop, but the Itunes freezes and I have to force quit. Since I can't control the I pod from Itunes, it's not possible to restore de device. In that case, what do I have to do?

Are you charging it via a PC or a 10W wall charger?
But either way, leave it connected for at least 2 hours, there wont be any life on the iPod screen for the first 30 minutes or so.
    Have a nice day!

  • Upgraded to iTunes 11 on Snow Leopard, now won't recognize iPod Touch 2G?

iTunes 11 doesn't seem to want to recognize my iPod Touch 2nd Generation.  Tested out my iPod Nano 4G, and it connects fine.  I've tried rebooting the Touch and restarting my computer, but to no avail.
    Any suggestions?

  • ITunes is very slow to open - does not recognize iPod Touch

I'm running on Windows 7 and iTunes is the only program that I am experiencing any problems with. Outside of iTunes, everything operates optimally. I'm going to run AV and AM software tomorrow to see if I'm infected but I doubt that is the case here.
List of Apple-published software on the computer
    - Mobile Device Support
    - Bonjour
    - Application Support
    - Software Update
    - iTunes
Other software that may affect iTunes
    - Last.fm Scrobbler
I only have some 4,000 songs in the library and by default, it opens up in the list view. I have tried opening it in safe mode but to no avail, I experienced the same thing. It pretty much takes 3-5 minutes to get past this white screen and see the list view and it doesn't recognize my devices when I plug them in - only recognized by Windows.
Any idea as to what may be the cause here?

The article below should help you with this:
iPod not recognized in My Computer and in iTunes for Windows

Usually the resolution is updating the Apple Mobile Device Driver.  See the section labeled Verify that the USB Drivers are installed > For Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 > Update the Apple Mobile Device Driver.
If this does not resolve the issue, you may need to remove iTunes and all of its components as outlined in this article:

  • Computers don't recognize iPod, but can charge with iHome

Help. My daughter has an iPod touch 3rd gen. She can charge it on her iHome and it seems to work fine, but neither her PC nor my MAC will recognize the device. So the iPod seems to work fine, but we cannot sync it anymore. We have tried rebooting and using different USB cables, but nothing will work. Has anyone heard of this? Is the iPod shot?

    Have you tried another cable?

  • ITunes 10.5.1.42 will only sometimes recognize iPod touch (new gen)

After upgrading to iTunes 10.5 and iOS 5 on my touch, it is a rare instance that iTunes actually recognizes that my touch is plugged in. When it does recognize it, iTunes freezes while trying to sync. It will look like it moved the songs to my touch, but they are greyed out and unplayable on the touch. I've looked on different troubleshooting pages that the apple website provides, have tried many solutions including reinstalling iTunes and such, but to no avail, I still have the same problem! If someone could please help, I would greatly appreciate it. This never happened before I updated to iTunes 10.5.

I am having the same issue, and nothing seems to work! It has to be something with iTunes because I am reading that a lot of people are having these issues. I'm wondering if going back to a previous version would work? I am so frustrated.

  • I just sync my apps from itunes to my iphone but app don't show up on my phone

Please help me i just sync my apps from itunes to my iphone but app don't show up on my phone

I thought I resolved it, but the problem came back! And this time, re-starting Muse didn't help.
I was creating a vertical line to separate the sidebar from the main area, and when I extended the line down to where the footer guide is, the page started to expand and the navigation bar at the top started growing, while the links disappeared again. Now all links from the master page are again missing from every page but the master.
When I undid it, the navbar went back to its normal depth, but the text links in it did not return.
Any thoughts on how to fix this?
Also, it really wasn't my intention for the navigation bar to grow vertically as the page grows. Is there a way to prevent that?

So how do I create a separate I tunes on a PC which already has itunes... Or if not can I plug my iPad to the PC and use itunes on my iPad, and drag mp3s from a computer.
I'm not sure what the equivalent of a desktop is on the iPad.. And I don't actually know how to use the icloud either...
Can anyone start me off, given it have a iPad and use of a PC - not mine with existing iplayer
I do have spotify soundcloud so I could potentially use these.. If there is a route of getting either mp3's etc to end up on my iPad or iPod.
    Kind Regards

If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar.  Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears. and Control+B to show the Menu bar
To import music into your iTunes library on the computer go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Add items to iTunes and follow the instructions
To sync to your iPod go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device and follow the instructions.

  • Computer AND iTunes don't recognize my iPod touch.  Comp thinks it is a camera.  iTunes won't bring up devices at all.  I've already uninstalled iTunes and QT and reinstalled after problem that happened when I updated iTunes... getting beyond P/Oed!!!

Computer AND iTunes don't recognize my iPod touch.  Comp thinks it is a camera or something.  iTunes won't bring up devices at all.  I've already uninstalled iTunes and QT and reinstalled after problem that happened when I updated iTunes - updated iTunes completely demolished my computer's ability to recognize the sound card and computer had NO sound at all.  I had to uninstall iTunes, QT, AND my sound card and reinstall them all.  Sound worked fine, but now I can't sync my iPod.  Computer recognizes that "something" is hooked up (thinks it might possibly be a camera) and I get that "open with" window.  In "my computer" it shows that there is an "iPod" connected, but it is pictured as a camera.  In iTunes my username is no longer appearing (although account info is there) and NO devices whatsoever get listed.  There is nothing wrong with my USB ports or cable.  And of course Apple won't help anyone unless you pay them to. ... I am getting beyond P/Oed!!!  You pay hundreds for a product and all you get are headaches with their stupid bug infested software and no support at all.
Can anyone out there help me clean up this unbelievable mess Apple and iTunes has created in my computer?
    Thank you.
    Evie

After three completely wasted days trying to figure all of this out I finally got it fixed - on my own - by reading dozens and dozens of rogue posts in indie forums from people that refuse to dish out money to have a company TRY and advise possible fixes on their own glitches.
(here's a novel idea - fix the glitches Apple.  Or - don't send out updates filled with bugs in the first place)
Everything (several applications) had to be uninstalled in a very specific order and then restarted , then it all had to be verified with manual deletions of leftovers, and emptying the recycle bin, then another restart, then iT had to be reinstalled again and the system restarted again, and two more update downloads. Holy!!!
I love my little iPod touch, but I honestly must say, when this kind of thing happens (and it has several times now when I try to deal with iTunes or Apple), it makes me want to flush it down the toilet.

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Have you tried resetting the PMU?
I'm not optimistic that this will help any more than the procedures you've already tried, but it won't hurt to try.
Do you still have your OS 9 installation? If so, try booting into OS 9 and see if the problems with the audio are happening there, too. If so, you can bet it's a hardware problem.
How big is your hard drive and how much space remains available on it? If you don't have your OS 9 installation in order to check out whether it's a hardware problem and you have enough available hard drive space, you may want to try an Archive and Install of the OS in order to make sure it isn't an OS X system-wide problem. If that doesn't do it, you could back up your hard drive and restore your software.
All of this may just be spinning your wheels, but it's all stuff you can try before shelling out a lot of money for repairs.

iTunes and my Mac don't recognize my iPod Nano (6th generation) under devices? I have tried rebooting/resetting and reinstalling iTunes already. I have also checked the ports and cables, what can be done?

    Try here.

How do I manually transfer music with the new itunes update for Windows?  I don't want to sync my library and lose all of my music for what I have in my current library.

The same way it was done in every previous version.
Connect the device to the computer.
Right click on the device in iTunes and select Transfer Purchases.
Why would you lose any content by syncing with iTunes?
Is this not the computer that the device is normally synced with?
