ITunes 7.5 & iPod Mini

I'm posting to this discussion because there's a topic in the iPod Mini section that may be of concern to others as well:

I hope someone from Apple is picking up on the thread here -- there are some real problems with iTunes 7.5 that are at least annoying and frustrating and at worst require a full restore and reloading of songs. Start reading topics in this discussion area and you'll see many symptoms but a common cause . . .

  • Moving iTunes Library from iPod mini to new computer (old hard drive dead)

Hi all, I own a 2nd gen (I believe) iPod mini with all of my music from my iTunes library on it. Last weekend, my computer began freezing/crashing while loading my desktop, and a diagnostic confirmed that the read/write head on my hard drive was bad. I don't currently have the spare cash to send it away to a recovery lab, so I am starting from scratch with a new computer I will be ordering today.
My question is this--is it going to be possible to transfer the music from my iPod to my new computer? Many of the songs on my iPod are from other sources, during the years that I was not using iTunes, and from what I have read I will only be able to transfer my purchased music. I know there is a way to make my iPod into a hard drive in order to transfer the music to my new computer, but as I said, I cannot even boot up my old machine, and thus cannot access my iTunes library on my HD.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions and advice you may have.

  • Missing iTunes on my iPod mini, please help

I used to have some itunes that I had paid for on my ipod mini but tonight when I updated my ipod I receieved a message that read, "some of the songs in the iTunes music library including the song "100 years," were not copied to the iPod "Alissa's iPod" because you are not authorized to play them on this computer." My iTunes have been erased from my iPod but are still on my computer iTunes. This message is very confusing to me because I downloaded these songs from iTunes onto the only computer that I use to update my iTunes on. I don't understand why I wouldn't be authorized to use iTunes on my iPod all of a sudden when I was authorized before. Can anyone help me get my songs back onto my ipod? All of my other songs in my library that I have from my cds are still on my ipod, I'm only missing the downloaded iTune songs.

First of all, ensure that you are using the lates iTunes which is version 4.9
Then try Deauthorizing and then reauthorizing your computer, and see if this fixes the transfer issue.

  • Itunes not reading ipod mini

My husbands ipod mini was syncing earlier but then he "updated" it and now itunes doesn't recgonize it, So I reset the sync history and it still didn't read it. when I plug it in on the screen of his ipod it says do not disconnect yet itunes isn't doing anything to it! I reset it and it didn't do it. It worked fine before the update. Please help...

Okay, so i was readin through other discussions and i found this tip {"try resetting the iPod while it's connected to the computer: hold down the Menu and Select buttons until you see the Apple logo. This will often get it recognized." by Mark Jone3. it worked for me, so hopefully it will for everyone else too!

  • Ipod library in ITunes freezes with Ipod Mini - HELP

    Hi!
    I have the folowing problem.
When I connect my Ipod Mini, te ITunes recognizes the Ipod and shows me the content of it. However, I can't play any of its songs nor add other songs; everything related to the Ipod in the ITunes is frozen. Please note that I can hear the music outside the Ipod through ITunes. I have already tried the 5R`s but doesnt work.
    Please help!!
    Than you in advance!
    Alan

You have to pod set on "Auto Update" if you want to drag/drop and play songs on your PC from the pod, you have to set it to "Manual update" rightclick the pod in iTunes select "iPod Options" and here you can change it to that if you wish.
If you do this tho you will have to manually eject it from the PC everytime

  • ITunes doesnt recognize iPod mini, which only charges

I just bought my iPod mini 2 days ago and still can't figure this out. Everything seems to be going ok--iTunes is working fine and I can upload music, but it won't transfer into the ipod. I believe in the Source list (in iTunes) there should be an ipod symbol? But there is none. When I connect the ipod to the computer, it only charges. I've tried resetting the ipod, restarting the computer, deleting the software and downloading it again, and nothing. I've tried updating it and it says "Plug in an iPod to update it, which I do, but nothing happens.
Any help would be a LIFESAVER, as I am extremely frustrated by this and am about ready to punch a wall here.

Thanks for your advice... The problem is that iPod doesn't appear in iTunes, so I clicked on the link and followed the instructions for putting the iPod into disc mode so I can reset it. I got as far as (see the picture of the checkmark) to the part where it says 'Disconnect iPod from the power adapter and connect it to your computer; the screen on the iPod will change and say "Do not disconnect"' I did that and nothing happened. My iPod still says "OK to disconnect."
So I haven't the faintest idea what's wrong. I checked the system requirements again, and I believe that my computer meets all of them. Guess I'm at another dead end.
Should I just try to get all this iPod stuff--the cd, cable, everything, replaced? Hopefully by doing so, that might solve whatever the problem is?

  • Mp3s play in iTunes and on iPod mini but not on iPod classic

Some of the mp3s in my iTunes library will not play on my new 160G iPod classic. I paid for and downloaded the mp3s from the internet (not p2p), most of wich are CBR (192Kbps), but the occasional album is VBR. All of the mp3s play fine in windows media player, iTunes and on my old iPod mini. When I go to play them on my iPod classic, the tracks just skip. It seems strange that the files play on an older model of ipod.
I have searched though these forums, and have seen people having similar trouble, but have yet to come across a solution.

Yes, I have this problem as well. I have synced and re-synced an entire library three times now (which is not easy when you have almost 10k tracks to upload) and the same issue occurs on some tracks, but not others. I can't really see a commonality amongst the files to figure out why the ipod won't play the songs. They play fine on Itunes and when the unit itself is hooked up to my computer, but not if you are just listening to it from the Ipod. Strange...hope somebody can answer this question soon...the problem is really irritating.

  • Using iTunes/Ipod mini on multiple computers (many questions)

Hello I recently purchased another computer for myself. I would like to use iTunes and my ipod mini on this computer but I would also like to continue to use it on my family's main pc. Is this possible? Do I have to worry about that deauthorization of computers, or the license, or is it fine to use on two pcs? I just don't know how all that stuff works but I think I remember something about having iTunes on one pc only.
Now for the second part of my questions. How do I actually go about transfering iTunes and my ipod to another pc? Do I just install iTunes like normal and transfer my files using an external hard drive? My family pc will remain as the main one for now but eventually I'll switch it to my laptop. I don't care about playlists and song ratings because I don't bother with that. What I want to do is simply have the music that's on my family pc put onto my laptop. I have bought an external hard drive so I could transfer the music without much problems.
Finally can I switch between my laptop and home pc? I mean can I use my mini from my laptop and then later update it from my home pc and do other things like that. I'll use the songlist from my home pc for now but eventually my laptop will become my main one. I know I read something about clicking no if I want to change the music library when plugging in my ipod to another pc. Do I have to keep both iTunes updated to the same version and the songlist the same? I'm wondering if there will be any conflicts between the two.
I'm sorry about how confusing this all is and the many questions I have but I hope somebody can help out. Thank you.
Ipod mini (not 1st generation)   Windows XP

    hi Gerhard!
you can authorise up to five PCs at one time:
iTunes: About Music Store authorization and deauthorization
this Buegie post is an excellent resource on moving your itunes to a different computer:
    http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=2231034
and these resources should be helpful with managing the mini from different computers:
    Using iPod with multiple computers
Transferring songs to iPod using iTunes
Copying music between authorized computers with iTunes for Windows

  • Mac OS 9 -  iTunes for iPod mini doesnt work, what do??

last week i bought an iPod mini, but iTunes 4.7 which is on the iPod cd doesnt work (the iPod mini software also not),i think because my mac is too old.
so were can i get iTunes plus the iPod mini software which runs on my macintosh?

There is no version of iTunes for Mac OS 9 that will work with the iPod mini. The last version of iTunes for Mac OS 9 is version 2.04, and that will only work with first and second generation full-size iPods, plus third-generation full-size iPods which are running version 2.0x of the firmware. All third-generation iPods and iPod shuffles can be used as an external hard disk in the Finder. Mac OS 9's iPod updater will only work with first and second generation full-size iPods.

  • My Ipod mini shows "locked" on the ITunes screen

When connecting my Ipod mini to the computer I see in ITunes a " locked" sign.
I can only add new music (still some disk space on Ipod); it does not delete old songs that I have deleted in ITunes.
My Ipod mini is not set to act as external hard disk

Do you have your ipod on automatic update or manual update? If it's on automatic update you can't delete songs and there will be a lock symbol down at the bottom of the screen next to where it tells you how much space you have left.

  • IPod mini wont play iTunes songs

I have recently downloaded 15 songs from iTunes. My iPod mini won't play them on it, but they will play will play on my computer. When I try to listen to them on the iPod it just skips over them and goes to the next song.

I've seen more posts about skipping
    b purchased music
on the iPod, but there does not seem to be a universal solution yet.
Keep an eye on this Discussion

to see if someone comes up with a fix.
You've updated now and that was non-destructive. Alas, it didn't work.
Before you try restoring (completely wipes your iPod clean), you should try Resetting. You might loose some information, but it's worth a try.
    Read this document:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61018
In the bottom half you will find links to resetting and restoring.
Try resetting a few times. If that's not successful, it's up to you trying to restore or wait until there's a fix that works.
I can say it's not a general problem. I upgraded to iT5 (and 5.0.1), purchased music, transferred it to my 1st gen. iPod and everything works flawless.

  • ITunes won't let me select my own music for iPod Mini

Every time I connect my iPod Mini, iTunes generates the following message:
"The iPod cannot be updated because there is not enough free space to hold all of the songs in iTunes music library. Would you like iTunes to automatically select a playlist for you?"
If I click the "Cancel" button, the iTunes closes my iPod mini connection. If I click "Yes", I have no control over what iTunes downloads and cannot erase and replace the songs it chooses for me.
I have already removed and downloaded the iTunes and iPod mini and Updater sofware onto my hard drive. What can I do to have more control over what iTunes puts onto my iMini???
    Help!!

Go into iPod preferences (while the iPod's attached) and choose "Update selected playlists" and you'll be able to pick the playlists you want on the iPod.
Or you could switch it to manual and drag the songs to the iPod icon . . .

First, try resetting the iPod with it connected. Try several times if it doesn't work the first.
