Itunes 7.5 painfully slow to open in Vista

Hey everyone, whenever I plug in my iPod touch or open iTunes the computer hangs for 30secs to 5mins before I am able to go into iTunes and sync my iPod. I have read other places that iTunes is slow for Vista but they were mostly old articles, is version 7.5 still problematic in Vista? Thanks a lot.

Same for me. The iPod Touch itself is like a dream, very smart device thanks to the amazing intuitive system, but iTunes 7.5 for Windows is the complete opposite! I just spend the entire day trying to get some music, movies and photos on my device but it's been a miserable day of failing, errors, waiting, searching and waiting, waiting for the synching to complete. Sometimes a part of the media did sync, but not all of it and only after waiting for a long, long time! I tried looking for alternatives like MediaMonkey but it doesn't support iPod touch (because it doesn't support usb mass storage i think). My first Apple experience is turning into a nightmare to be honest.....
A number of problems:
- After scanning the Music folder, it appears that only about half of my music was visible in iTunes!
- Syncing mp4 movies from my Nokia Phone only works when i use a 3rd party converter first. If i just use iTunes i can only hear audio, no video.
- Sometimes when syncing a bunch of media files, the syncing process just appears to be hanging, after disconnecting (after an hour or so!!), only a part is available on the iPod, sometimes nothing!!
God i'm tired of fighting and wrestling all day with iTunes. I thought Apple was user-friendly?
Can anyone please help me?
Kathy

  • Imac is painfully slow. Opening up applications takes 2 to 3 minutes. This occured just after a failed attempt at downloading a TV episode on Itunes.

I was downloading a TV episode in Itunes when it froze. The download was not completed. I had to use the emergency shut down processes and then restart my Imac. Everything now takes 2 to 3 minutes to open up. I have access to all my applications,as far as I know,  but everything including my internet is painfully slow. Almost like itues is still running in the background or something.

Go to user>Applications>Utilities>Activity Monitor and check to see what applications are using all your memory.  You can quit the offending app in Activity Monitor - please let us know what happens,

  • ITunes 9.0.1 slow to open!

Im just checking to see if anyone else has had problems with the latest version of iTunes 9.0.1 being slow to open. When I click on the iTunes icon, it opens quick but then the main window freezes, then I see the beach ball spinning for about 30 seconds or so then the rest of the screen "comes alive" and then I can access the entire application.
It was never this way prior to version 9. I DID download the update that was supposed to solve these issues but I have not seen any difference in performance.

You might want to check that your certificate that you made has been applied to iTunes.app
    try this code in Terminal"
    codesign -dvvvv /Application/iTunes.app
Does the name on the certificate match the one you created?

  • ITunes and Toast are slow to open and will not quit

The other day I noticed that when I start iTunes it takes forever to start, no window no nothing, then a few minutes later its up and running. Then when I quit the window goes away but the dock icon still has its arrow and it shows up in the "Force Quit Application" window as "Not Responding" and no matter how many times I force it to quit it is still there. No window just the dock icon still has its arrow and it shows up in the "Force Quit Application" window.
I have to restart the Mac to get rid of iTunes. I tried downloading iTunes 6.5 but it will not install.
Now I find that Toast 5.2.1 also does this, when opened it shows no window and can not be forced to quit.

As this is a user-to-user forum, it's highly unlikely someone from Apple jumps in (they can be recognized by their white (Apple employees) or purple (moderators/hosts) avatars).
The long delays can be caused by a very huge library. iTunes needs some time to open the library and after quitting, iTunes will write the updated 'iTunes Library' file to disk. In contrary to pre-iTunes 7 versions, this can take some time.
If you don't have a huge (larger than a few hundreds of GBs?) library, the above does not apply.
Concerning your Toast application. I'm running Toast 8 at the moment, but still have Toast 5.2.3 on an external drive. Running and quitting that application gives no trouble whatsoever on my system (OS X 10.4.8).
Did you recently install a new app.? The first thing to try is to Repair Permissions with Disk Utility. If this doesn't fix it, you might have to perform an Archive and Install.
You also might post a question in the Mac OS X forum. Maybe someone there has a hint that does not need a tedious Archive and Install.

  • ITunes 10.2 Upgrade fix temporary. Fix to iTunes 10.2.2 by uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support and install AMDS from 10.0. Worked only to fail in 5 days. iTunes back to very slow to open and will not see device (iPhone) connected. Sorry

I was one this site for 20+ Days and found a fix for 10.2.1 when it failed. I Uninstalled all, following other attempts that failed, then installed latest Version from Apple iTunes 10.2.12. I then uninstalled Apple Mobile Device Support (AMDS) and installed AMDS from the older 10.0 version of iTunes. Success it worked. Today, I am now back to old problem, iTnes takes very long time to open and fails to see my device when connected (iPhone). I really only have iTunes for my iPhone no extensive library a few hundred CD's in music location and no podcasts. I have less than 6 moveis and want to update them now. I am willing to lose all in iTunes library if need be just to get computer to see G3 iPhone with iOS 4.2 and let me synch once again. I like security of backup too. It older iTunes may now not support, that too is OK. I still want to get the 3GS (no 4G desires, yet) and do not care if any of it is the latest from Apple as long as it works.

    Hi Erik,
Your basic suggestion actually worked for me. But this is what I did for others who are having issues removing/installing etc.
    1. Download the latest iTunes 8.2. You should end up with a file iTunesSetup.
    2. If you dont already have WinRAR, download free copy from http://www.rarlab.com/ and install.
    3. Right click on iTunesSetup and choose "Extract" to somewhere you know. eg C:\itunetemp
    4. Open up folder where you extracted iTunesSetup and double-click applemobiledevicesupport.msi
    5. It should ask you if you want to repair or remove... choose remove.
    6. REBOOT your PC.
    7. Go back to where you extracted iTunesSetup and double-click applemobiledevicesupport.msi and go through the install.
    8. Plug in your iPhone.
If all is well iTunes should automatically start and start syncing your iPhone.
    Goodluck all!
    Cheers.

  • Large mp3 collection painfully slow to open in Mus...

I know my mp3 collection is relatively large (full 16gb class 6 micro sd card) so I expect a bit of lag but im finding access to my mp3's on my E72 frustratingly slow.  For example opening my list of Artists isn't so bad but accessing an individual artists list of albums and then opening one of those albums to see the tracks is taking 10-15 seconds each at each step. This also applies when going back out from the list of tracks to the list of albums. Im happy with the music player in general but this one problem is driving me crazy. The only way I can get access music at an acceptable rate is by creating loads of playlists of songs I listen to most regularly but obviously this defeats the point a bit. Does anyone have any suggestions to improve performance in this respect?

This too enfuriates me... amongst other slow response times from the phone in general.
Sometimes it lags on unlocking the phone, answering calls, opening messages can take up to 10-15 seconds... it is absolutely ridiculous.
I have also have a 16Gb card with 7Gb of music. I have two email accounts synchronising maybe once an hour. I have a feeling that this phone just isn't built well enough to handle what it claims it should be able to do.

  • I am finding iTunes sync is painfully slow, (just trying to add music to my iPhone 6)--anyone know how to remedy?

adding music to iPhone 6, either over wireless or cable is unusually slow
using 2009 mac pro, Mavericks OS

You have to deselect the song you don't want on your iPhone befor you sync. As long as the music is selected it will remain in your iPhone.
Start iTunes on your computer, connect your iPhone, select your iPhone in iTunes and in the music tab deselect sync entire music library. Then select just those playlist or songs you want on the iPhone finally click on Sync or Apply. The playlists or songs that are not selected will not be copied to youri phone. If they were already on your phone from a pious sync they will be deleted.

  • ITunes downloads are painfully slow, and using the wrong servers

For the past few months, iTunes downloads (from a PC) have been unbearably slow, with single 60-minute TV shows taking 3-6 hours to download.  Worse, Apple has decided that I live in the middle east, rather than Vermont.  According to Task Manager, itunes is connecting to 204.2.196.136 to download files, and that server is located in Iran.
Before anyone asks, I am using my ISP's DNS provider, located in Vermont.  So this has nothing to do with that useless Google DNS service.  How do I forge iTunes to use the right providers in the United States?
For what it's worth, no other programs have this problem. Speedtest reports a healthy 10-12 Mb/s, Steam downloads huge files quickly, and Apple TV streaming is fine.  As far as I can tell, only iTunes store downloads are affected (from any source, including my iPad 2.)

In my case, I think it's a combination of my isp being incredibly slow (Optus in Melbourne) and iTunes apparently throttling the download speed.  A couple of days ago, my download speed measured on speedtest.net was 0.2 Mbps!!  After phoning Optus to complain, they reset the line and the speed bounced up to about 6 Mbps.  So in that case it was definitely my isp.  But now, even with the approx 6 Mbps download speed, my iTunes downloads are taking about 3 hours just to download one 40-something minute episode.  When I do a traceroute (start, cmd, tracert itunes.apple.com, enter) the iTunes server is located in Boston, US and I'm in Ballarat, Victoria, Oz.

  • FW CS3 very slow to open on Vista

FW CS3 opens sooooooooo slowly on Vista. I mean I'm talking
about 30 secs to a minute or more. (I have a P4 and 2 gig of ram) .
Being used to FW8 opening in a flash this is pretty dreary. Has
    anyone else experienced this?

That's probably a function of the machine. On Vista (Core 2
    Duo E6600 w/4GB
RAM), Fireworks launches in less than 5 seconds. Fireworks 8
    actually took a
    bit longer.
I think there are a lot of variables to how an application
    launches and
works from one system to another.

  • ITunes 9 painfully slow to load

With all the new graphics & album art that loads & animation that has to load iTunes load so painfully slow & don't let Time Machine run at the same time! Is there anything I can do to either turn off all the additional art work that loads or can I downgrade back to the previous iTUnes?
Or is there something in Utilities maybe I can do?

I'll add my experience to this. It takes sometimes as long as 15 minutes to load my library, during which iTunes is "Not Responding," and churns my hard drive so that my entire system is nearly unusable. My system still has sufficient memory, so it is not paging.
Shutting down in the same experience. I just timed it at 10 minutes, with the same hard drive churn and nearly unresponsive system. The RAM usage goes as high as 1GB of ram, and in Activity Monitor, it is writing for minutes at ~20MB/s. I thought that my library was somehow corrupted, but this seems to be a common experience?
Why didn't Steve Jobs demo this great new feature?

  • MBP Retina + ML + CS6 so slow to open & save... tips?

    Hi All
    Just recently bought a new retina MBP 15" / 2.6ghz i7 / 8gb RAM / 512gb SSD (132gb available). I've got ML 10.8.3 + CS6 (13.1.2 x64).
This is not my primary work computer but I want to use this to do the odd bit of work at home, mainly in Photoshop with files that range from 200-600mb generally in size.
I'm finding however that the computer is painfully slow to open PS files. I'm talking up to 3-4 mins to open a file which is sitting locally on my desktop. Once it's open, performance is fine, however once I go to save, again it becomes painfully slow.
At first I thought it might be Suitcase 4 causing the problems, trying to activate fonts on opening, however even with suitcase closed it's the same.
Here's what the performance settings are currently set to:
I'm really hoping someone can help. I'm majorly dissapointed as my 4.5yo MB 13" running 10.8.2 + CS5 opens/saves in PS in litterally half the time!!
    Any suggetions?
    THX:-)

Thanks Grant, I've done all that and SMART is verified and when I ran verify/repair disk/permissions it was all good. Still the problem persists however.
I think I'm understanding more about the problem though. I think it's definitely font related.
On opening a file everything initially looks fast, however things take a turn for the worse when the beachball of death appears (and actually PS wants to force quit during this time). After a few minutes it rights itself but bangs up this message:
    Alert
Fonts used in some text layers are not available for activation. You will need to replace these fonts before the layers can be used for vector based output.
To test if it's a font problem I opened a locally saved photo (.psd) which had a lot of layers/effects but no font layers. It was approx 200mb in file size (same as some of the web designs I've been trying to open) and it was super duper quick.
Suitcase 4 is auto activating as it should... I'm stumped.

  • ITunes connection is extremely slow

For the past five days my connection to iTunes has been painfully slow. This slowness applies to everything from updating podcasts to simply accessing the iTunes store. This seems to be unrelated to my internet connection as I haven't noticed any slowing in anything else I have done. All download rates, etc... are normal outside of iTunes. Has anyone else experienced this and what can be done to fix it?

I have the same problem, have been having it since the March 28. Sometimes iTunes won't even connect, tells me 'the connection has been reset'. But when it does connect, it is extremely slow, sometimes the pictures don't load. Searching stalls and I have to hit the stop button then hit enter to start the search again to get results. Let's not even get into previewing tracks. And as for downloading purchased songs, one night I purchased three albums, I went to bed at midnight at 6 the next morning, it was just starting on the first track of the third albums. Each of these albums total run time was less than an hour. Outside of iTunes my connection is just as zippy as it once was, I dunno why this is happening all of a sudden.
So far my solution has been to avoid the store. Because everything I have tried has been of no help to me whatsoever.
    I share your pain though.

  • I tried to update the latest software update for my MacBook pro (which was on 10/12) and after it started to update it restarted like normal but when it started back up it was running painfully slow and none oft programs will open. They all quit unexpectal

I tried to update the latest software update for my MacBook pro (which was on 10/12) and after it started to update it restarted like normal but when it started back up it was running painfully slow and none oft programs will open. They all quit unexpectedly. iTunes microsoft word all of them quit unexpectedly. Help!

Exact same problem with my 2010 MBP 2.4ghz 4gb ram 10.6.8. iTunes said update was needed, Software Update ran with various updates including a security update, truthfully didn't pay much attention, I always install the Apple updates. After the restart it took 3-4 times longer than normal to get to the login screen, same to get to the desktop but I'm familiar with that occurring on update restarts. Unfortunately it got worse from there. Performed a full shutdown and startup. Same long boot.  After the desktop finally loads every mouse button press received a 2 minute beachball. I use menu-meters and both processors are under 10%. Waited a few minutes for disk utilities to launch, repair permissions estimates 3 hours for a typical <10 minute process. Activity monitor shows nothing over 10% CPU most of the time however ReportCrash pops to the top often. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. BTW zero problems until this update.

  • Open and Save dialogs are painfully slow. Is there a solution?

Open and Save dialogs are painfully slow. Is there a solution?

I pulled this part out of one of the topics Barney-15E linked to. It absolutely works! The glacially slow Finder response has been driving me batty in Mavericks. Each time I restarted, it would take forever to list the startup drive when I opened it. Open and Save dialogues were also painfully slow to respond. Now they all snap open and list instantly. I used TextWrangler to comment out the line in the file auto_master, then ran the automount command in Terminal.
    Working workaround:
Use the following statements in Terminal.
    sudo vi /etc/auto_master
In this file comment out /net with #  (#/net .....)
    sudo automount -vc
    Fixed.
Confirmed here too both for Preview.app Open file sluggishness and Finder window population. Thanks Snaggletooh_DE!
    Couple of notes:
    (1) Some folks may be more comfortable using a GUI editor like TextWrangler instead of vi
         a) in the Finder use the GO menu and select Go to Folder
         b) type  '/etc' ( without single quotes ) in the Go to folder dialog box and press the Go button
         c) Right ( Control  ) click the auto_master file in the resulting Finder window. Select "Open with...." and use TextWrangler ( your choice )
         d) Comment out the line by inserting a '#' ( pound sign ) as noted in Snaggletooth_DE's instructions
         e) Save the file  ( probably need to authenticate with your admin password  )
         f) Do the 'sudo automount -vc' per Snaggletooth_DE's instructions. Will need to authenticate again.
    (2) Notice Snaggletooth_DE described this as a "workaround" because it bypasses an Apple bug. Presumably most people have not changed their auto_master file and it worked fine in Mountain Lion and prior. In other words: If you haven't done so already, please continue to submit feedback and bug reports to Apple for this issue.
Kudos to Snaggletooth_DE for figuring out code is trying to look at network ( NFS ) volumes that maybe don't exist.
