ITUNES 7.5 - Shared Library TV Shows

Hi very strange one.
Running iTUNES 7.5 on my machine but 7.4 on the share when I view the TV SHows it show in the browser Show and Episode. I updated the shared library to 7.5 and first of all it would not conect to the server at all (including my AppleTV would not connect).
I applied the fix talked about here about removing quicktime and re-installing 7.2. Great library at least can be seen. Apple TV see them OK but any other machine when you select the TV Show from the share show all of the items but the browser show Artist/Album ... not a great deal of use.
Library is being shared from a Windows 2003 server.
Any help would be appreciated. BTW - Mac and Windows machines show the same from the library.
Malcolm

I play them through Quicktime but the real issue is that Apple changed the rules mid-stream. The current upgrades require a 1ghz machine.
For instance I purchased my multi-pass for the Daily Show prior to the upgrade. Then Apple changed the rules, giving me no choice but to download new software in order to download and play the shows I'd already purchased. I assumed this would be scalable somehow. But it's not and frankly I feel ripped off that my Quicksilver 867 can't play the files smoothly no matter what size I make them even though I am just short of the 1 GHz requirement.
I was happy to purchase the files from iTunes. But I can get the files elsewhere at better quality and they play fine full screen - until they solve this issue, I will likely stop buying video files from iTunes and get them by other means.

  • Moving iTunes music from "shared library" to "library" on a Mac??

I want to put music from my iTunes onto my new iPhone 5 but I cannot because all my music (except 4 songs I recently bought) are under the "SHARED" drive and I cannot sync them (manually or automatically) to my new iPhone 5.
My goal: to get all my music into my iTunes library and out of this iTunes "shared library", and once I get them there I'm pretty sure I can put songs/playlists/movies/etc on my iPhone 5.
So here is my story timeline (maybe it will help?)
    1. I had an iPhone 4S linked to an iTunes library on a PC for a couple years.
    2. I bought a Mac Pro (super excited) and bought 4 songs on the library on the Mac (my PC was still in use at the time)
    3. My PC started acting up.
    4. My iPhone 4S broke (long story).
    5. Yesterday I bought an iPhone 5
    Where I am at today:
    6. Now I have a MacPro and an iPhone 5
    7. My current iTunes music library displays only 4 songs in it
    8. All the music I bought and had on my PC are now showing up on my Mac's iTunes, but under the "SHARED" tab and not under the "LIBRARY" tab
What I want to do is be able to combine the music I had on my old iTunes (currently in my SHARED library on the Mac) with the 4 songs I bought recently (4 songs in my LIBRARY on the Mac). After I combine the two libraries I want to be able to put music/movies/aps onto my new iPhone 5. ...I cannot do this right now because all the music that I have is under "Shared" (except those new 4 songs...I really want more than 4 songs on my iPhone) and I cannot get the shared music onto my new iPhone.
Any and all help is appreciated, ~eks1111

You'll have to buy some software for the PC that will read Mac-formatted drives.

  • Using the Remote App and playing iTunes from a shared Library

I have a playlist set up in my main iTunes library on my iMac.  This is a shared library on my local network at home.  I can access and play the library remotely from my MacBook.  I want to move my MacBook outside with external speakers for a party.  I want to be able to access the shared library from the iMac inside the house from my MacBook and be able to control it with the Remote App.
My problem is that when I use Remote and the MacBook outside (I've set up the iTunes passcode with that computer and my iPod) it will only recognize the library on that computer, even if I am logged in to the shared library and it is visible in the MacBook.  So basically, remote is doing what it is suppose to do in a normal situation, but I need it to recognize and play from the shared library.
When I turn on home sharing on the iPod I can access all the libraries on the various macs in our house, but the music will only play out of that particular machines speakers.
I don't have wireless speakers, so I can't think of another way to do this.  Is there?
    Thanks, Sandy

Well, I've got it to work although not ideal.
    1. On my main computer (iMac) I created the playlist that I want available to control at a party.
    2. I went to iTunes settings/Sharing and selected "Share selected playlists" and checked the playlist I made for a party.
    3. I Linked my iPod to MacBook (which is outside with external speakers) using the 4 digit code
    4. iPod, Home Sharing Off
    5. Select the Library on iPod
    6. Select "More" (bottom right of iPod)
    7. Select "Shared" from the list that appears
    8. Select the computer that has the shared library
    9. Select the playlist (or lists if you created others)
This setting is allowing me to use my iPod "Remote App" to play an iTunes playlist (or the entire catalogue) from a shared library on my MacBook WITH the sound coming from my MacBook and NOT from my iMac where the original iTunes catalogue is located.
Not sure if this is the easiest way, but it's working.

  • ITunes match in shared library

When my kids were young, I bought each of them an iPod.  I set up iTunes accounts for each of them and gave them a monthly allowance to buy music.  I created a shared library on our home Mac and we each sync our iOS devices to it.  Over time our music library has grown (over 50GB) and has music from three different apple ID's (my son's, my daughter's and mine).
Now that the kids are going off to college, I would like for all of us to continue to share our library (it has helped prevent buying multiple copies of songs over the years).  I think iTunes match is a great solution to being geographically separated.
My question is this.  Can I upload our shared iTunes library from the home Mac and enable all 3 of us to access it?  Or does each apple ID in our shared library require a separate iTunes match?
    Thanks
(Our home Mac runs OS 10.7 and all our iphones run iOS 5.1)

Rentals are not shared from iTunes in the usual sense.
The rental can only live on one device at a time to prevent one copy being used on multiple machines.
You therfore have to transfer the rental to AppleTV from iTunes - I haven't done it recently but you do it through iTunes under a rentals tab (? under movies).
You can move the movie back or say to an iPod to continue watching if you don't finish it on the TV.

  • ITunes Feature Request: Shared Library Enhancements

I didn't see a section of the forum specific to feature requests so I'll just post here and see what kind of feedback pops up.
I use iTunes to manage the music library for my home network, then share the library to each system on the network. The only gripe I have is that I can not make my local systems load the artwork from music in the shared library. I am also a bit dissapointed that the "jukebox" view doesn't work for shared libraries, and that you can't make a playlist containing songs on a shared library.
I'm assuming these features were left out to conserve network bandwidth, which makes sense, however I think it should be an optional feature that that can be enabled for people with the hardware to support it. If you're running a gigabit home network then there is certainly enough bandwidth to spare to support this.
I'm a windows user and will always be, however I'm very impressed with iTunes and how efficiently it operates and handles tagging and other features. I just think that the shared library capabilities should be expanded. It'd even be nice if you could grant permission to a specific computer name or IP range giving systems permission to edit the library. Remote Desktop/VNC solutions work well for this, but it'd be nice to have an internal feature to support it.

  • Shared library still shows in iTunes

I have a Macbook that I use as my main iTunes library. However, I used to share the library from my desktop PC, before upgrading the hard drive in the Macbook. Now that all of the files are on the Mac, I don't need to share the desktop PC's files. I thought I had everything turned off. However, looking through my iTunes library, I see a lot of dupliate songs. When I look at the info for the duplicates, I see that some songs are still pointing to the desktop PC. I'm sure that they're pointing to the desktop, because I see the mac file: "users\me\itunes\music" (or whatever the default Mac location is) and the PC file: "documents and settings\me\my documents\my music\itunes" etc. I'm sure that I've turned off shared libraries on both the Mac and the PC.
How can I remove the PC files without doing them one by one? I have a pretty sizable library and would rather not spend days removing each one individually.

for the avoidance of doubt, are the media files stored in a public section of the NAS ?
another possible issue may be that you're connecting to the NAS using the SMB protocol. try mounting the NAS using AFP instead.
from the finder's Go menu, select connect to server (or type ⌘K) and enter "afp://NameOfNAS.local" (without the quotation marks). provide the admin credentials you have assigned for the NAS and, once the the connection is established and the NAS is mounted, fire up iTunes and try again.

  • Home sharing library not showing up

I have set up home sharing between my two computers, my old computer (secondary), and new computer (primary). Now they are on a good internet connection, and I am able to find them on my home sharing list, however, when I select my old computer's library on my new computer's iTunes, I see a screen saying "Loading 'Secondary Computer'...", for a few seconds, then it simply goes back to the main music screen without accessing my old library. I have tried restarting itunes on both computers, as well as restarting the systems themselves. Please help? I dont understand why my new computer can find my old one, but not sync correctly...
Windows XP home 32 on old computer, Windows 7 home 64 on new, but that shouldnt be an issue, right?

More info: I have tried accessing my secondary computer's library from a laptop as well. My primary computer can use my laptop's library, and vise versa. My secondary computer can use both my primary computer's and laptop's libraries. But neither my laptop or my primary computer can access the library from my secondary computer (which is the one with all my actual music!) Not sure what could be causing this computer's library to not be accessible by any other itunes home sharing devices...

  • The shared library is not compatible with this version of itunes

I have a G3 running Jaguar (and iTunes 6) that hosts my MP3 collection. Until recently, this worked great as a shared library, happily showing up in iTunes on other machines on my network, including my Powerbook.
Then I got iTunes 8 on my MacBook Pro.
Now, when I try to access it from my MBP with Leopard, I get the message "the shared library Nick's Music is not compatible with this version of itunes".
Can I somehow run an older version of iTunes as well as v 8.0 on Leopard?
Is there another program that can access that library and run on Leopard?
    Any other solutions?

I solved it myself...What I did was to backup the old library, run iTunes 6 to create a new library, move that new library, edit iTunes 6 preferences to use the library in it's new location, then restore the iTunes 8 library to it's original position.

  • Airport Express/wifi router/iTunes Home sharing/iDevices - no shared library

    iTunes on Mac mini.
Home sharing enabled on mini and iPhone & iPad.
Mac mini connected with ethernet to Quest DSL wifi modem/router.
I can see Shared library and content (videos and music) on iPhone/iPad.
Little Snitch shows iPhone/iPad connecting to iTunes.
If I connect the Mac mini via wifi to Quest DSL, the Shared library shows up on the iPhone/iPad but no content.
Little Snitch shows no connection to iTunes.
If I connect to the AirPort Express via ethernet or wifi, I see Shared library but no content.
Turned off both Little Snitch and Firewall but nothing works.

    Finally figured it out...
Had the DNS for wifi connection on the Mac mini set to the two OpenDNS servers but not to the AirPort Express.
I added the address for Airport Express but it did not fix it right away.
I turned off wifi then 'dscacheutil -flushcache' in Terminal, turned on wifi and the shared library content showed up on the iPhone and iPad.
Still don't understand why it would show the library but with no content.

    Hello vette99coupe,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with iTunes.  It sounds like you may need to re-create your iTunes Library.
    I recommend the following article:

  • Can't see shared library

I have a laptop which is new with the latest version of iTunes, running Windows 7, and a desktop computer with the latest version of iTunes, running Windows XP.  I signed in on the new computer with my Apple ID, same one I always have, and password.  I made Home Sharing available on both computers.  However, I still cannot view my desktop iTunes library on my iTunes on the laptop.
I see the drop down menu and no Home Sharing Library is listed.  Can someone offer any advice, please?  Thanks!

Did you make sure that "Look for shared photos" is checked in the iPhoto preferences setting on the Macbook Pro?
Last time I experimented with iPhoto library sharing, I found it to be a little flaky. Sometimes the shared library would show, sometimes it wouldn't, for no apparent reason.

  • Homesharing- can't see shared library

I have a laptop with Windows 7 and itunes 9.2. I have turned on homesharing on my laptop as well as my daughters laptop which is running vista and itunes 9.2 using the same account and password. Our media files are shared but while she can see my libary I cannot see hers. I have checked firewalls on both and that is OK. We are connected to the same network.
Any suggestions on how I cna fix this as it is really starting to bug me.

  • Since upgrading to 10.5.2(11) I hit play and iTunes no longer scrolls automatically to show the song playing

    Hello comunity,
A feature I used a lot with previous versions of iTunes was to hit the space bar to start playing whatever track was paused and iTunes would scroll my library to show the track currently being played. For whatever reason this feature seems to have been suppressed in 10.5.2(11). Is there anyway to get this feature activated again?
    Many thanks to all,
    Eduardo

Exactly the same thing happens when you double-click an mp3 file on finder.
