ITunes 7.5 won't recognize any ipods

Since iTunes updated to 7.5, it will not recognize any of my iPods. Not the classic, not the nano. Connecting with USB, and I don't have a firewire cable to try.
Error message is +"An iPod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again.+
I am posting here because I believe it to be an iTunes problem, not iPod. I see some have had this error in the iPod forums as well. I connected the classic to a windows machine, restored to factory settings, and then tried again, with no luck.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes.
I looked for drivers and I get the same error whether ipoddriver.kext is deleted or not. Same with the itunesiphonedriver.kext.
Help? I'm pretty sure this has something to do with the itunes update, but do not know how to go back to an earlier version.

I would delete the preference file. That should work. To do that, quit iTunes and go to User Name>Library>Preferences. Locate the com.apple.itunes. Delete this file. And empty the trash. Open iTunes. iTunes will act like that this is the first time you open iTunes and ask you a bunch of questions. Don't worry as your music, playlist, play count are all intact.

  • The latest version of itunes -- just installed -- won't recognize my ipod touch 4th gen.  What's up?

I just installed itunes version 10.5.2.11, and now it won't recognize my ipod touch 4th gen.  Running on windows 7, very fast desktop.  Previously no prolems with itunes or the ipod.  The computer does recognize the ipod and names it correctly in My Computer.  Any suggestions to wake up itunes and discover the ipod?

  • Laptop won't recognize any ipods

OK, so I have an ipod video, a click-wheel ipod and a new shuffle, and my gateway laptop won't recognize any of them. It recognized them all until earlier this week, and the USB ports still work with my flash drive and mouse. I plugged the ipods into another computer using the same chord and they work fine. I got the ipod video replaced at an apple store, and still nothing. I plug the ipod (any of them) in and in the device manager it shows up as an unknown device. I tried reinstalling the driver, but I get nothing. I've restarted the computer of course, and have restarted the ipods (except the shuffle). I've gone through the troubleshooting on the apple support page, and am at my wits end. any suggestions?

I went through the troubleshooting page and went BACK to a genius bar and got the ipod video replaced again (they said it had a bad hard drive). I still have the same problem though. I think my computer's hard drive is going bad, but I'm not sure. The ipod is reading, but I can't copy any music over to it now ("the disc can't be copied to or read from"). Also, when I connect it to my older PC, I fill it up with music, disconnect the iPod and see that it's blank! I look in the "about" section of the ipod's settings and it shows that memory is being taken by music, and when I plug it into iTunes it shows the music being there.

  • New version itunes (Dec 2012) won't recognize my ipod touch.

Since installing new itunes on computer, the program won't recognize my ipod.  It does recognize my daughter's iphone.  I've gone through several troubleshooting lists, restarting devices and doing everything recommended.  I did a tutorial to help me recognize the new features and the one that's supposed to be there for my device just isn't.
    Help?

I've had the same problem. Go in and unplug all devices.Go to Control panel> Uninstall programs> Uninstall all programs accotiated with Mac ****If you are Windows**** (Itunes,Itunes update,Ipod touble shoot). Just go into list a separt by Developer and click on each and uninstall each by apple/ Macintosh, what ever yours says. Restart Download the newest version of itunes then. It should work.

  • Windows 7 & iTunes 10.1 won't recognize my iPod (4.1 + MB533BT)

My computer (Windows 7 64 bit) doesn't recognize my iPod. And neither does my iTunes. When I connect my iPod, the iPod charges but my PC doesn't recognize it.
I've tried uninstalling and installing iTunes at least 3 times and also restarted my PC in the process. After uninstalling iTunes, I even deleted my iTunes & iPod folder (under Program Files).
I've gone into Services and stopped/started Apple Mobile Device & iPod Service and reconnected my iPod.
I've restarted my iPod and reset its settings.
    I've tried updating its driver.
I've checked the USB connections under Device Manager. (The iPod charges but doesn't connect.)
    I've changed the USB cable.
I really don't know what else to do. Any ideas? Anyone?

    Have you tried everything here?

  • ITunes 9.1 won't recognize my iPod.

I only use my classic iPod for mp3 music files ... no artwork, pictures, TV, radio, or ANYTHING other than my music. It worked fine for 3 years, but now, I plug-in my iPod and nothing happens. iTunes doesn't see it. I've taken all my hardware to an APPLE store and verified that eveything works well, but iTunes still won't see it. What a piece of crap this has turned out to be. I tried older versions of iTunes, but they won't execute because a file "iTunes Library.itl" was created by an updated version. Don't know what to do next. As a programmer, our top priority was to make new versions of our software BACKWARD COMPATIBLE ... no excuses, it HAD to work or else. Version 9 doesn't work backward.

I had the same problem. After reading some other posts I found the solution for now is removing itunes 9 and reinstalling iTunes 8.2.1 for G3. Open applications, remove the itunes app, also remove it from your dock. Open Finder, click Music, open itunes folder and move album artwork folder and itunes music folder to your desktop, delete all other files, librarygenius.itdb, library extras.itdb, music library.xml, and itunes library by moving them to trash and emptying. Don't worry once you download 8.2.1 for G3, http://support.apple.com/kb/DL857, and install it they will reappear. Reinstall 8.2.1, when install is done, open Itunes, go to Preferences, click the Advanced tab and uncheck "copy files when adding to itunes music folder". Now, open Music in Finder, open itunes and take your album artwork folder and itunes music folder from your desktop and place them back in the itunes folder in Music. Go to itunes, file, add to library and add the itunes music folder and your music will upload without creating duplicates. Once the adding is complete, lastly connect your Ipod and it should appear. Hopefully, this isn't difficult for you to understand but it worked for me.
Just a side note and this might not be necessary but I did it anyway; I opened up Finder and searched for any file that was connected to itunes and removed them all except for my artwork folder and itunes music folder. I tried uninstalling 9 and reinstalling 8.2.1 the way it is suggested in previous post and after I completed the process and I went to open up itunes, I got the error message "could not open because itunes was installed with a newer version". That is when I decided I will clean my mac of any files related to itunes, except for artwork and music, download 8.2.1, do a completely new install. Good luck.

  • ITunes opens, but won't recognize my iPod

My iTunes suddenly quit recognizing my iPod.. I plug it into my computer, and Windows will recognize it, but iTunes doesn't show it plugged in! I tried everything on the help page for this, and I don't know what to do anymore...
    windows   Windows XP

Sooo.. I talked to the Apple people, which was a nightmare (the first guy was really very nice, but I could hardly understand the second lady... =/). The result is that tomorrow I'm going to the Apple store and talking to them. Nothing the phone people said seemed to help, and it ended with trying to format my iPod (which totally wiped it, so now I don't even have anything to listen to at all *mad face*) before my phone died.
Megan, I'm sorry I couldn't be of any help. If the store people tell me anything interesting (not likely) I'll be sure to pass it along.

  • I purchased an album of ringtones on iTunes yet it won't recognize any?

I purchased an album of ringtones on iTunes. They only show up in my library and can play them as songs but not as ringtones. Can anybody help? I'm a little ticked off at how I spent $11 bucks on album and cant do anything!

You still have to create the ringtones. Yes, even though you thought you were buying ready made ringtones.
There are several ways to do this. Google will find them.
I prefer Garageband. It is quick and simple.

  • Please Help - My iTunes library won't recognize my iPod classic

My iTunes library won't recognize my iPod classic 80gb. I try doing the trouble shooting steps on apple, but they still did not work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'd love to add some newer music to my old iPod for listening in the car or when travelling. Thanks a lot.

    Hello dmbnewfie,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that your iPod classic is not being recognized in iTunes when you connect it to your computer. I know you have tried some troubleshooting on the Apple website as well, but without knowing which steps you have completed, I would suggest working through the attached iPod classic Troubleshooting Assistant.

  • Updated iTunes to 10.3.1 and now it won't recognize my iPod

I recently updated my iTunes to the latest version, and  now it won't recognize any of my apple products. I have a first gen iPod touch, 4th gen. ipod nano and 5th gen. ipod nano. The ipod does work still, and is chargeable through a dock or a AC adapter. I've gone through all of the five Rs and reinstalled itunes, and nothing is working. My ipod won't show up in windows either. When I plug in my 5th gen nano, windows says the driver did not install sucessfully and itunes won't even acknowledge I've plugged it in. Any help would be fantastic, I'd really appreciate it. I put new music on my ipod all the time, and not being able to do so *****.

Well yesterday I finally broke down and called apple service... I spent $29 and 1.5 hours on the phone, but the operator was finally able to fix my ipod. There was an issue with the itunes update, and it had corrupted. After uninstalling, installing, and updating several drivers, programs, and resolving other issues, my iPod finally works. Even better, the operator gave me a way to contact him again if I am having issues, free of charge. I would have much rather fixed this myself without spending the additional money, but I'll admit there was no way I could've done what he did, as there were certain orders to uninstalling Apple programs. My advice? Bite the bullet and call. They will get your iPad working again. (:

See the chart below to determine whether you can upgrade your device and what you can upgrade to. If you do not have a Software Update option present on your iDevice, then you are trying to upgrade to iOS 5 or higher. You will have to connect your device to your computer and open iTunes in order to upgrade.

  • IPod full but now won't recognize any files; how to fix without "restore"?

My iPod mini suddenly won't recognize any of my files or extensive playlists. I just uploaded several songs to it, and when I disconnected and tried to play it, it suddenly showed as completely empty, like I'd deleted everything. I plugged it back in, and while nothing shows up in iTunes with - no songs, no playlists - it says it's still nearly full.
Reading another thread, I found the files on the iPod through My Computer. So they are still there, but for whatever reason the iPod, literally suddenly, can't recognize them as present. How do I fic this WITHOUT having to restore the iPod and then re-add those files (and recreate all of my playlists?)
    Please, please help!

  • TS1425 itunes won't recognize my ipod

I worked with apple support to reload itunes. Now my computer won't recognize my ipod classic, at all.

Do you have any other USB devices connected to that Mac Mini? If so, properly disconnect them and reboot your PC and then reconnect your Shuffle with iTunes running.
If still no luck, try a reset of the Shuffle with it still connected to your Mac.
