Itunes 7.6.1 and Apple TV

I'm having a problem with my MAC Itunes seeing Apple TV in the device list. Itunes under XP, Vista, and Win Server 2003 can see Itunes but my MAC can't. I've reinstalled Itunes, upgraded to 7.6.1, did a factory restore on my apple TV, opened up my Mac firewall all the way but no luck.
The only strange thing I have found is that when I run permissions fix it shows ACL found but not expected under Itunes.app.
Anyone having this issue?

Having the exact same problem. Tried everything to get the AppleTV to show up in iTunes devices list. Factory restore and update again of the AppleTV, followed by fully reinstalling OS X on the desktop and upgrading iTunes, but still nothing.

To use itunes 10.7 you need to have Snow Leopard operating system installed
    These are the system requirements
    System Requirements:
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible internet service provider: fees may apply.
If you can run Snow Leopard you need to purchase it

  • 10.6.6 update and syncing issues in iTunes with iPhone 4 and Apple TV

After installing the recent OSX 10.6.6 update, I am receiving the following error messages in iTunes 10.1.1 when trying to sync both my iPhone 4 (iOS v4.2.1) and my 1st generation Apple TV (OS v3.0.2):
    iPhone error message:
"The iPhone cannot be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to."
    Apple TV error message:
"iTunes cannot sync photos to the Apple TV because of a problem on your computer. The disk could not be read from or written to."
I'm not sure if this matters - but in the iPhone error message - it does not state if the "disk" is the iPhone or the computer - but in the Apple TV error message it does make this distinction, saying that the problem is on my computer and specifically mentions photos.
Now, once I dismiss either of the error messages, the sync progresses normally and completes successfully. Also, I have checked my computer (MacPro) and all diagnostics (including the internal hard drives) pass with flying colors. And the computer is working fine otherwise - so I have no reason to believe that there is a hardware problem with the computer. And I would find it very strange that I would have a hardware problem with both my iPhone and Apple TV appearing at the exact same time. And finally, both the iPhone and Apple TV are performing normally when in use.
Since this problem did not start until after running the 10.6.6 update - logic tells me that is where the problem probably lies.... the question is how to resolve it - anyone have any ideas?

FYI: I received the following answer to this same question which I had posted in a different area of the forum and it solved my problem:
+Both those symptoms are consistent with a damaged photo cache. If you remove your existing photo cache as per the instructions in the following document, does that get you past the error?+

  • ITunes for Windows, QuickTime, and Apple Application Support

Disclaimer: Apple does not necessarily endorse any suggestions, solutions, or third-party software products that may be mentioned in the topic below. Apple encourages you to first seek a solution at Apple Support. The following links are provided as is, with no guarantee of the effectiveness or reliability of the information. Apple does not guarantee that these links will be maintained or functional at any given time. Use the information below at your own discretion.
*The relationship between iTunes for Windows and QuickTime for Windows*
Conceptually, you don't go too far wrong thinking of iTunes for Windows as a gigantic QuickTime for Windows plug-in. QuickTime for Windows provides the audio and video playback capabilities for iTunes for Windows, the codecs iTunes for Windows uses for importing and burning CDs, and so forth.
So, under normal circumstances, if you uninstall your QuickTime for Windows your iTunes for Windows will no longer launch. The exception is if you install a different application such as QuickTime Alternaltive, which also provides QuickTime playback capabilities. However, most such applications (QuickTime Alternative being a good example) are themselves built from actual QuickTime program files. So there's really no getting away from the requirement to have QuickTime for Windows componentry installed on your computer in order to get your iTunes for Windows to launch and run.
In addition to needing some QuickTime for Windows installed on the computer for iTunes for Windows, a given iTunes for Windows version will require *at mininum a particular version* of QuickTime for Windows to be installed on the computer in order for that iTunes for Windows version to run. For example, iTunes for Windows 5.0.0.35 requires at least a release version of QuickTime for Windows 7.0.2 to run correctly, iTunes for Windows 6.0.0.18 requires at least a QuickTime for Windows 7.0.3, and so on. The same applies for solutions involving other programs like QuickTime Alternative. An iTunes for Windows 6.0.0.18 would require an installed version of QuickTime Alternative to made from (at least) QuickTime for Windows 7.0.3 componentry in order for iTunes to run.
The most straightforward way to go about getting your iTunes for Windows launching again after you've uninstalled your QuickTime for Windows is simply to reinstall QuickTime for Windows. You can get the latest version of QuickTime for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 from the following download page at the Apple website. (Use the download link that doesn't mention iTunes.)
    [Latest QuickTime for Windows version|http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download>
*The relationship between iTunes and Apple Application Support*
iTunes for Windows uses a number of the same program files as other Apple software for Windows (most notably, QuickTime for Windows and Safari for Windows). Starting with iTunes for Windows version 9.0.0, QuickTime for Windows version 7.6.4, and Safari for Windows 4.0.4, program files common to more than one of the programs have been stored in a single location: "Apple Application Support".
So, if you uninstall your Apple Application Support (using the Add or Remove programs control panel in Windows XP, or using Programs and Features in Windows Vista or Windows 7), your iTunes for Windows 9.0.0 (or higher version) will no longer launch ... because several essential program files for iTunes for Windows 9.0.0 (or higher version) will have been uninstalled.
At the time of writing this user tip, Apple Application Support is not available as a "standalone" download from Apple. It is only available as part of the installer bundles for the most recent versions of iTunes for Windows, Safari for Windows and QuickTime for Windows. So if you have uninstalled your Apple Application Support and your iTunes for Windows 9.0.0 (or higher version) is no longer launching, the most straightforward way of getting your iTunes for Windows launching again is to uninstall your existing version of iTunes for Windows and reinstall the latest version of iTunes for Windows. (The iTunes reinstall should also reinstall your Apple Application Support.)
    [Latest iTunes for Windows version|http://www.apple.com/itunes/download>
If, however, you've uninstalled both your Apple Application Support and your QuickTime for Windows, the most straightforward way of getting them both reinstalled is to download the latest QuickTime for Windows installer from the Apple website. (Use the download link that doesn't mention iTunes.)
    [Latest QuickTime for Windows version|http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download>

Let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get aCode 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Updateentries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Next, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) downloaded from the Apple Website:

Does it go through properly this time?

  • I have home sharing turned on both my itunes on my computer and apple tv, but the icon to use apple on my computer will not work.

I have turned home share on both my apple tv and itunes but i still can't get the apple tv icon to appear on my computer.

    Hello chandlos23,
Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities.  I found some information that might help with transferring information between your computer and Apple TV.  I found an article about Home Sharing that talks about what Home Sharing does and how to set it up:
You can use Home Sharing in iTunes 10.5 or later and on Apple TV to share the iTunes library and photos of any computer on your home network.
You can find the full article here:
Setting up Home Sharing for Apple TV (2nd generation and 3rd generation)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4352
If you are trying to setup Airplay from your computer, I also found some articles on how to set that up.  AirPlay Mirroring lets you send what’s on your Mac screen to an HDTV wirelessly with Apple TV.  If you are running Mountain Lion on a Mac compatible with Airplay Mirroring, you can share your whole screen using these steps:
About AirPlay Mirroring in OS X Mountain Lion
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404
If you are not running Mountain Lion, you can still use Airplay with iTunes and iOS devices following the steps in this article:
    Using AirPlay

    I hope this helps!
    Best,

  • ITunes Match on iPhone and Apple ID Question

I am enabling match on my wifes iPhone, I know I have to use my Apple ID to do so, this brings me to the following:
I did notice something however, I know to make sure her iCloud uses her ID, however, when I go to messaging and look at the send/receive addresses, it shows the apple ID at the top. I would assume it would have to stay that way because she would be logged in under my ID to use match. I can log that in under another ID I see but then that would screw up her match, correct? So, I need to make sure that the "you can be reached by iMessage at" only uses her e-mails or phone number, same as the "start new conversations from"? I don't have her phone in front of me so I am not sure what it shows for her options for addresses. Maybe it will just show hers anyhow and I have no worries?
One of my main concerns with that is she should not have the ability to receive or send texts from any of my phone number/e-mail addresses. That will only cause confusion in my book.  And, I suppose if I removed those addresses from her phone, consequently it may remove from mine?  I guess I have to see her phone to see what happens, but hoping someone has input on this concern.

I understand fully.  So, you are telling me that even though I have her signed into my Apple ID for iTunes, App Store and consequently iTunes match, I can still use her ID for facetime and messaging?  For some reason, I was under the impression that once I log into store, match and iTunes, then that ID would carry over to messaging/facetime and show my ID.  I know that the iCloud is not impacted, but I guess I thought those services were.  You are saying they are the same as cloud as far as impact.   Use her ID for them (cloud, message, facetime) but mine for match, app store and itunes store?
So, right now her phone is logged in for everything under her Apple ID.  When I log hers into mine for the app store and iTunes and match, it wont change the message, icloud or facetime logins (meaning right now it is logged in under her ID, and suddenly they change to mine when I log in the store as mentioned).  I have it in my head that if I do log her out of one of those, then it will log her out of itunes and all that as well.  You are saying they are the same as iCloud.
I tend to repeat myself, sorry.

  • Problems with iTunes 10.6.1 and Apple TV 3.0.2

    Hi
I'm having problems with syncing my Apple TV (ATV) 3.0.2 to iTunes 10.6.1: Only a random sub-set of my music and videos appears against the ATV in iTunes and a different sub-set is actually showing on the ATV itself.  There are no error messages reported and the ATV is visible in iTunes. I have tried the following:
Rebooting the ATV - no difference
Disconnecting from iTunes and then reconnecting - no difference
Performing a factory reset on the ATV - when the ATV first came back (with software version 2.whatever) all of my media was visible against the ATV in iTunes and on the ATV.  However, once it had updated to the latest level (3.0.2) I was back to square one!
Has anyone else found this problem and, if so, is there a fix or work-around?
    Thanks
    Robin

I have an old macbook too.
It seems like Apple writes new software that makes older computers not work as well.
I always have reservations about updating with an older model.
Does anybody else have any problems with the new iTunes?

  • Itunes 10.6.1 And Apple Mobile Support

I've been at this for 5 hours, and I'm taking my pride away and going to the forums for some help
I just received an iPod Touch 3.x.x from my friend, and when I hook it up to my desktop, the classic error "The iPod you connected cannot be used because you do not have the required software" comes up. I know what's missing is Apple Mobile Support, and I need help installing it. I've done everything on Itunes(Itunes installs perfectly except for this one thing) and I get this error all the time.
I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit(Program Files x86 if that helps draw a better picture). Please, if there are any fixes or common threads, please direct me there, or walk me through a fix.
    Irony.
When I connect this to my laptop, it works fine. I just dont have any music on that laptop to drag onto my touch.

Also, I forgot to mention, during the installer, it says Service "AMDS" has failed to start. Verify you have sufficient..
Yes I know this has been asked before, that's why I need your help now!

  • ITunes 10.0.1 and Apple Remote 2.0

    Hi guys,
After turning the firewall settings on in Sys prefs in Mac OS X 10.6.4 and allowing iTunes 10.0.1 incoming and outgoing connections within the advanced settings, the Apple remote app on my iPhone 4 stops connecting. Once the firewall is disabled its back to functioning.
Anyone has experienced the same malfunction?
    Thanks

Same issue. Two remote airport expresses. iTunes 10.0.1 shows them in the list just fine but you can't select them - it just instantly returns to the computer speaker.
You can't pick them if you choose multiple either - the checkboxes won't stay checked.
Booted the other mac to test - (still on 10.0.0) - that connects fine.
Can't find anything in the logs in Console.app either.

  • Incompatibility between iTunes 11.1.3 and Apple TV?

Up until a few days ago, our 3rd generation Apple TV, purchased in August 2013, permitted home sharing with our iTunes music library without any problem. After having gone through every troubleshooting suggestion, we can no longer access the iTunes library. We can still view movies, movie trailers, YouTube, Smithsonian, Vimeo, etc. Even though home sharing is set to "on" for both iTunes and ATV, the iTunes music library refuses to open. This 3rd generation ATV is connected with an eithernet cable, a connection I assumed would guarantee fault-free operation.
Our older ATV is 2nd generation and its connection is wireless. Thus far this older ATV has no problem gaining access to our iTunes music library.
Is there an incompatibility between iTunes 11.1.3 (8) and the 3rd generation Apple TV that could be causing this trouble?

No, there is no compatibility issue.
There is a network issue causing problems.  Most AirPlay issues boils down to a networking issue, especially when one ATV connects and the other does not.

  • ITunes U Public Site and Apple hosting

    Hello,
we would like to apply for an iTunes U Public Site only.
We would upload content to Apple servers instead using RSS on our local server; I'm not able find more information about that service that Apple provides, like how many files can be uploaded and the maximum total data size can be hosted by Apple servers.
    Any suggestion is welcome.
    Kind Regards,
    Diego

To the best of my knowledge, Apple no longer will host content. You have to provide your own hosting.
    Regards.

  • Itunes Match Error-9810 and apple tv misplaying tracks.

I have Itunes Match, It has been working a treat upuntill this week. My apple tv was taking ages to playsongs, and whilst flicking through on shuffle and stopped on a track i want to listen to it was playing the wrong track. I could pause and rewind the music, but the track was not the track it should have been. I tried resetting everything. Off/On, reset router, but no joy. I then tried to update Match On my MBP and now all I get is error 9810! I am paying for this functionality.... Why is it not working. I have super fast fibbre optic broadband and everything is updated... Please advise....

    Shawn,
Thanks again for your help. However, none of that worked at all. The only thing that worked was bringing my Mac to work with me today and setting up iTunes Match over WiFi (I'm on Ethernet at home). Not sure why this worked, but I saw someone else had solved their problem by changing which network they were on, so I figured I'd give that a shot. Still don't know if it was the switch from Ethernet to WiFi, or just being on a totally different network that ended up fixing it, but at least it's working.
