ITunes 7.6.2 - can't uninstall

I've got problems with unistalling\upgrading iTunes. When I try to uninstall iTunes it always starts reverting back on the same step. When I try to upgrade iTunes to version 7.7 it tells me "Installer had problems configuring your files".
Is there any utility to unistall iTunes clearly, so I could do clean install?

Use Search.
That will give show you the step by step instructions for uninstalling balky versions of iTunes using : http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=290301
Be careful with it and back up you music before you start.

  • Itunes doesn't work, can't uninstall, or reinstall, or sync OR ANYTHING!!

I have been battling this problem for MONTHS and as hard as I try to find information or support, NOTHING CAN FIX THIS. I just want to be able to sync things to my ipod AND ACTUALLY USE IT AGAIN. When I go to file sync, it's grey, and I can't select it. Auto sync is also disabled for some reason, and CAN'T be reinabled. PLEASE HELP ME. I've tried to reinstall, but that doesn't work because it can't locate 'itunes.msi'. So I cant uninstall, reinstall, install, or update! GRAAAA!! Somebody help me please!!!!!!

I've tried to reinstall, but that doesn't work because it can't locate 'itunes.msi'.
    let's start with that one.
    let's try the following procedure.
first, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. if it goes, good. if it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to itunes.
next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. use it to clear any existing itunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC.
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
next, use the the following document as a guide for manual removal of leftover itunes and quicktime program files:
Removing iTunes and QuickTime for Windows
now try another itunes install. does it go through properly?
now try changing your ipod settings again. do they work properly now?
if not, do you get an error message when you try to change the settings? if so, what do they say?

  • Error 42408 with iTunes 10.3 and can't Uninstall?

I can't buy music, play purchased downloads or authorise my computer. I have tried all of the methods posted here, such ejecting and reconnecting iPod, replacing the shortcut, rebooting my laptop, closing and reopening itunes, logging in and out again of my itunes account, removing SC info folder and the .plist files/version without extension and I am at my wits end with this.
The only thing I haven't tried is reinstalling because I can't uninstall iTunes and the change/repair options in add/remove hardware don't work either. I left it for hours trying to uninstall and it stuck on "preparing to remove."
I have Windows Vista 32 bit and am in the administrators account, if that is any help.

  • ITunes upgrade installation cancelled - Can't uninstall or complete install

    Hi All
I have tried upgrading to iTunes 9.0.3 today and it took forever to install. During the installation process I stopped the install which also took a long time to stop. I CtrlAltDeleted and stopped this task. The problem is, I can no longer access iTunes via the desktop shortcut. An error message says "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed". I have tried downloading iTunes v 9.0.3 again from the Apple website and tried installing over the top but I then get the following message "Another Installation is in Progress. You must complete the installation before continuing this one". I have also tried uninstalling all Apple products from my computer but I get the same message that I must complete the install before continuing with the install.
I have also downloaded Windows Installer Clean Up Installation Wizard to try I clean up my installs but I then get the following message when I try and install this "Error 1500. Another installation is in progress. You must complete this installation before continuing this one.
All I want to do, is either remove the current partial install of iTunes so I can reinstall my original version or complete the partial install.
Can someone please help me out?????
    Thanks

Have a similar problem trying to install iTunes after a comlete removal based on the instructions from Apple I keep on getting the message "registering iTunes automation server". The installation process stops there and then. Repeated removals of the installation including the Temp folder and reinstalling iTunes doesn't help. Even tried an install of QuickTime before the install of iTunes. Again the installation stops at exactly the same point. I do restart the computer every time after the removal of the software. Does anyone have any other suggestions I could follow up? Thanks for the eventual suggestions.

  • ITunes will not launch - can't uninstall Quicktime

I'm really, really annoyed with iTunes.
Rebuilt computer and installed iTunes 7 on a fresh config after antivirus software and firewall were installed. Had sound problems but managed to fix them.
Rebooted and tried to open up iTunes - only to get an error, rebooted again, same thing. Tried opening Quicktime - same. Tried Quicktime settings from control panel - a Fatal error has occured.
Uninstalled iTunes, with an eye to trying to install it again. That worked, but when I tried to uninstall Quicktime it got half way, then "A fatal error has occured". Tried downloading and installing Quicktime without iTunes - that wouldn't even run.
Tried iTunes install anyway, but got the same problems as before. Tried v.6.5 - but that claimed the freshly downloaded file from Apple was corrupt.
I now cannot uninstall or use Quicktime, cannot use iTunes or update my iPods and am really fed up with Apple over this shoddy update.
I've searched through the support pages, but cannot find a fix for this problem.
I'd be happy to try any fixes that might be around, especially if it means I can get v.6.5 on my machine (which worked fine!)
For now, I'm going to be searching out another player for my audio and video.
    Most dissapointed.

Tried opening Quicktime - same. Tried Quicktime settings from control panel - a Fatal error has occured.
that corresponds to a "standalone 1603" error message on earlier versions of the itunes and quicktime installers.
    let's try this first.
    here's what we'll try first.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Next, we’ll manually remove leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
once we've got all the existing QuickTime scraped away, let's try a careful standalone QT 7.1.3 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1.3 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
Quicktime 7.1.3 Installers … get the one that doesn’t mention itunes
if that install goes through okay, reboot the PC and try another itunes install. does that go through okay this time?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

  • Cannot use Itunes or Quicktime, nor can I uninstall them!....

The software worked fine until one day, maybe a month ago, that I was getting the "unexpected error" window everytime I open either programs. I get the window usually 3 seconds after opening the file, and nothing shows up but the error window. I try uninstalling and I receieve a "a fatal error has occured" window, and the uninstall stops.
I have NO clue how to go about troubleshooting this. I've done all there is with my knowledge and all that the support page has had to offer.
If anything has any input on this, that would be great!
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I had exactly the same problem you're describing, and I finally managed to resolve it yesterday. Here's what I did (with the caveat that although it did work for me, any manual deleting and registry editing is done at your own risk!):
*Uninstalled iTunes, and Apple Software Update from the Control Panel. Restarted the system.
*A complete manual uninstall of QuickTime, following the excellent advice given here: http://pabsungenis.livejournal.com/94683.html. The only thing I didn't do was install QuickTime at the end, as he recommends.
*Searched all hard drives for QuickTime folders and files, and deleted these. I found that in addition to the dll files in "Windows/System32", there was a QuickTime folder in System32 as well, which I deleted. In those cases when it seemed that a QT file was used by another 3rd party program as a plug-in, I just renamed or moved the file.
*I also manually removed all Apple folders under "Documents and Settings/<username>/Application Data" and "Documents and Settings/<username>Local Settings/Application Data" for every user on the system. Deleted the iPod, iTunes and QuickTime folders in Program Files as well.
*Emptied the Recycle Bin and restarted the system.
*Installed an older version of iTunes (7.4), which I found on www.oldapps.com.
*Restarted the system after installation had finished.
To my great relief, and surprise, this worked - I've now got iTunes up and running again! I haven't yet updated to a newer version, as this one seems to work well with my old 40GB iPod without video and my wife's 80GB iPod Classic.
    Hope this helps,
    Erik N

  • Cannot load Itunes or Quicktime and can't uninstall old version

I'm trying to load iTunes. The installation fails because, "The installation of QuickTime did not complete successfully. iTunes requires QuickTime."
Have tried unintallation the current version of QuickTime and installing the latest version of QuickTime 7. Nothing works.
    What should I try next?

This topic has been discussed repeatedly, if you go up to the top right corner of this page to "more options" and do a search of the forum you will likely find your answer, it does take a little effort on your part though.

  • I haven't synced my iphone 4 with my windows xp pc since Nov 2011.  now I can't even open Itunes.  I get a message that says :the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource tat is unavailable".  I can't uninstall it either.

When I try to uninstall iTunes so that I can reinstall it, I receive this message:  "The installation source for this product is not available.  Verify that th esource exists and that you can access it".
I don't understand this as I'm the only one who has ever accessed it.  I set it up when I got my iphone last fall, and haven't synced it since.  Now I can't even open iTunes, nor can I update it, remove the program or reinstall it.
Any ideas out there?  I'm not a computer whiz, so please keep it simple.  Thanks.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Can't uninstall/update Can't find iTunes.msi file

Something happened to my itunes. Could have been my daughter's creative genius or any one of a thousand other things....
All I know is (and I don't use iTunes a lot) I can't get iTunes to load. When I click on my desktop icon or try to run it from my Start menu, I get: "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed."
I trid to reinstall and I get this:
"The path 'C:\Documents and Setting\All Users\Application Data\Apple computer\Installer Cache\iTunes7.3.0.54\iTunes.msi' cannot be found. Verify that you have access to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package 'iTunes.msi' in a folder which you can uninstall the product iTunes."
so I am thinking if I can uninstall it, then I can reinstall it and have it work. But I can't uninstall it, even with the remove programs function.
I should add that I am not a computer whiz to any instructions should be very easy to follow. (Assume I am not going to know what you are talking about
    Thanks!

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

how can i back up my iTunes library if i want to uninstall it?

    Quit iTunes.
    Locate your external hard drive.
Mac: On the Desktop or Finder sidebar.
    Windows: In My Computer
Drag the iTunes folder (backed up earlier) from your external hard drive to whatever location you desire on your internal hard drive. It is recommended that you choose the default location for the iTunes folder, which is:
    Mac OS X: /Users/username/Music
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\
    Windows Vista: \Users\username\My Music\
    Windows 7 or 8: \Users\username\Music\
Open iTunes while holding down the Option key (Mac) or Shift key (Windows).
In the resulting dialog, click the Choose Library button.
Select the iTunes folder you just moved to the internal hard drive.
Click Choose (Mac OS X) or Open (Windows) and then choose the iTunes Library file inside .
After following these steps, iTunes will open and your iTunes Library will be restored.
