ITunes 7.6, 7.7 very slow on Vista 64-bit

I installed iTunes 7.7 (iTunes64Setup.exe) on my Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit edition. It installs successfully. It works in the sense that it does not crash and I can listen to music and sync my iPod.
It is, however, painfully slow. When I scrolls through the library, there is a noticeable delay the scroll bars and my mouse cursor. The delay worsens when I resize iTunes horizontally long way.
Is this a known issue?
Vista 64-bit users, could you tell me how fast iTunes 7.7 works on your 64-bit Vista?

Just wanted to add my 2 cents. I have the same problem and it seems to affect the playback as well (stutters & starts).

After APTV and itunes upgrade on mac to latest on 02/15, streaming from itunes to Apple TV is very slow. even 5 mins song takes 10-15 mins to start. Netflix/Youtube work fine on Apple TV. restarted Mac, router, modem, appletv. reset Appletv to factory setting and re-start.

Apple TV 2 does not appear in iTunes (exception being when connected via micro-usb for restore) as it has no sync capabilities.

  • Firefox CS3 very slow (on Vista Home Prem. 64 bit)

Firefox CS3 is running very slow on Vista Home Premium 64
    bit.
New Gateway AMD Phenom quad-core (2.3 Ghz quad) with 8 GB of
    Ram.
The rest of the CS3 suite works fine, but there's a delay
every time I do anything in Fireworks.
I upgraded from 4 GB of Ram to 8, thinking that might make a
difference. But the problem remains essentially the same. I've
gotten all Adobe updates, but nothing seems to solve it.
Originally, I thought it was a matter of having other programs open
that was bogging it down. But even when it's the only program open,
    it runs slow.
I was wondering if there are some other settings I need to
change, or what... The last Macromedia version of Fireworks ran
much faster on my XP system with less power and Ram, so this just
    doesn't make sense...
    Any tips are appreciated. Thanks!

    64 bit? Umm...hmm.
First, other people have mentioned problems with FW CS3 on
Vista compared to either running on XP or other CS3 apps on Vista,
so you aren't alone. Unfortunately, nobody seems to be able to pin
down the conflict. Possibly AV, but (if I remember correctly) the
other person who posted about FW CS3 being slow didn't see an
improvement when he turned his AV off.
You might try turning off Aero for Fireworks, that helps with
the bitmap tools. If it's some other conflict, then it's going to
    be a matter of experimenting.
I'm running Vista Home Premium 32 bit, and I don't notice any
trouble with FW CS3 (well, except for the bitmap tools, which I
don't use so I haven't bothered turning off Aero). My AV is NOD32,
though, and it's one of the smallest, most nimble AVs out there.

contact apple support to see what is going on -- there have been complaints about Icloud servers and mail - so hazarding a guess that they have a problem somewhere between you and them.  Weather (storms) can cause an internet connection to be slow - or have to be rerouted in the system causing a traffic jam somewhere along the line.    Generally - in the US I check the national weather service map and if there are storms in certain areas I give it up for the day as its just not going to connect.

  • ITunes 9.1.1 (12) very slow

My wife's iMac has os 10.4 with iTunes 9.1.1 (12) on it. As more and more playlists are added, iTunes is very slow to respond and the CPU usage is going up! CPU usage is averaging 40% and the fan that cools the system is running at max speed (which is very annoying).
Have attempted to rebuild the library (975GB, music, TV shows and movies) and initially it seemed okay, but with the additional playlists being added the CPU usage is going up and iTunes is slowing down.
If anyone has a suggestion, I would greatly appreciate it. My wife wants me to trash the iMac and she would just go back to listening to CD's.
    Thanks,

    Many things happening here.
Is this library on an external drive? You say you have a 540GB drive but then you also say, "975GB, music, TV shows and movies)." It helps to know all the parameters.
As said before, too many playlists, especially smart playlists, slow itunes. Turn off live updating on smart playlists unless essential. Playlists of any kind make your library file larger and more to read and write.
How much of your 975 GB is music, shows, etc.? If it's 95% music in mp3s that is huge. iTunes takes longer the larger the library.
Is there a way to determine (and increase) the virtual memory?
No, and you wouldn't want to anyway. VM uses the hard drive and that is slow vs. RAM.
Also, will increasing RAM help? The iMac has 1.5GB and I can increase that to 2.5 GB.
Possibly, but some of the slow down may just be the large library and the fact that iTunes is constantly using the file. If this is being done in conjunction with an external drive that could also be slowing things down (what are the specifications on that drive?) If I run iTunes and check Activity Monitor for memory usage I see I still have plenty of free RAM but my iTunes has definitely slowed down since day 1 when I only had 2 CDs in it.
What is "slow"? It may just be the way iTunes works on your computer, your computer processor speed, the demands you are placing on it, or your computer could have other issues.
I'm not sure if this works in your scenario, but consider using multiple libraries to keep them small. Do you need all your video and music in the same library? Switch between libraries by starting iTunes with the option key held down.

  • Upgraded to iTunes 9: 'Determining Volume' now *very* slow

I've upgraded my iTunes to version 9 but I've noticed that when I download podcasts iTunes now takes forever, about 1 minute per 30 minute podcast, to analyze the volume level.
Is there some new setting I need to look into?
Or is this a bug in iTunes9 and I should downgrade back to version 8?
Is there a place to file bug reports against iTunes9?
    Thanks!

I'm seeing that problem as well and I can't figure out what why it's slower. I figured it's a bug so I reported the problem at Apple's iTunes Feedback page.
On the other hand, iTunes 9 converts MP3s to AAC format at least twice as fast as iTunes 8 did, which is a very welcome improvement.

  • ITunes Connect....VERY SLOW!!!

    3.) Re login
4.) Add a few images until it get's slow again
5.) Then Logout and relogin and contine

  • Accessing iTunes Store...  VERY SLOW - annoying bug introduced in 7.3

The new 7.3 version has an annoying flaw - when browsing a list of songs in the wish list it takes a very long time (30 seconds or more) to open a specific album when clicking the "right arrow" button in the Album column.
The same thing happens if I click on the album thumbnail image in the "Inside the Store" box near the bottom of the iTunes window... the same thing happens if I view an album, then click the left arrow to return to the list, then highlight a different song from a different album and then click the Inside the Store thumbnail image to view a different album... iTunes doesn't hang (the scrolling progress bar at the top scrolls like a sideways barber pole) but it takes 30 seconds or more for the other album to appear... before upgrading to 7.3 I could move around from album to album rather quickly but this new version is very annoying.
I'm using iTunes on a new Macbook with 10.4.10. Haven't tried my G4 mac mini...
    Macbook C2D - Mac mini G4   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

    Hello,
I too am finding and endless "acessing iTunes Store" barber shop progress bar. It happens especially when I click on a particular artist on the right hand side after a preliminary search has been done. Unlike Boxboro, I never get through. This has been happening for a week or more. . .

  • ITunes 10.6.3.25 very slow to respond - Windows 7 64 bit

After having sworn off iTunes over 10 years ago, I just installed the latest version this weekend -- my kids gave me a Touch for Father's Day and my son assured me that iTunes had improved over the years.  My experiences with it so far would indicate that is not the case.
It takes a number of minutes to synch to my iPod Touch (8Gb version) -- this was before there was even any music on it.  While this is happening, the iTUnes exe is using one full core of CPU processing continually, and the program is unresponsive in Windows.  After much waiting, I managed to get a small test selection of music on the device.  If I play this from within iTunes, it will play, but if I then pick a different song to play, I need to again wait several minutes durig which iTunes is again unresponsive.  The same wait occurs trying to exit iTunes.  I have disabled auto synching, but I am still getting these ridiculous delays.  This is on a fast Intel Core i7 machine, so I can only imagine how long this would take on an older machine.  While this hang is occuring, there is one maxed out core, but there is no change to memory usage, so nothing is actually happening, and the program is just spinnning its wheels.  (Without handling the Windows message queue properly, either.)  This should not be this painful.  These are small mp3 files being transferred onto a small device.  These transfers and synchs should take miliseconds, not minutes..
Anyone have any suggestions?  I feel like I'm back in 1995 when I try to use this program.

I hvae the EXACT same issue
I built a new computer which is EXTREMELY fast overclocked i7 ect and.. ITUNES DOESNT WORK
I click on itunes which ive uninstalled and reinstalled and reset the winsock AND seen if there were any errors AAAAAAND ive check the Hkey to make sure bonjur was the only one in there which it is and all that happens is my cpu goes to 25% and i cant do anything except go into the task manager and close it! ANYTHING with itunes (everything else is premium speed).
    what do i do

  • Syncing between itunes and iPad 2 is very slow. Is it because of the new ios 7.1?

Why is it taking so long to sync itunes with my iPad 2.
I have recently updated to the new ios 7.
Tried to delete apps and music using itunes whilst iPad connected. Still waiting for itunes to finish syncing (step 5 of 5).
    Thank you for your help.

Yeah, sorry, you're stuck with it. Once it downloads it's there and cant be deleted.
HOnestly, you won't get carplay (and even if you did there are no cars currently on the market that support it) nor will you get the fingerprint scanning. You'll have the option for buttons again, along with a thicker font and a couple of other visual things.
The only way to keep updates from being manually pushed out is to keep your device full enough that there's no room for it to download.

  • PE7 very slow Windows 7 64 bit

    Hi guys,
PE7 is running very slowly for me.
    I'm running an i7 920 with 8GB of ram.
    Windows 7 64 bit
Graphics card is Nvidia GeForce 9600GT running the latest driver V270.61
I am importing AVCHD videos into PE7 and then just dragging them across onto the work timeline and it just takes ages and hangs there for quite a while.
I can't edit the video on the timeline at all as it is just taking too long.
Any suggestions out there would be appreciated.
    thanks

Since AVCHD is a video file, not just a static picture, hard drive configuration is important
My 3 hard drives are configured as... (WD = Western Digital)
    1 - 320G WD Win7 64bit Pro and all program installs
2 - 320G WD Win7 swap file and video project files
3 - 1T WD all video files... read and write files
Trying to use only ONE Hard Drive for Video Editing
You are a music conductor, with a baton that you use to point to various parts of the orchestra... this is like Windows pointing to various parts of the hard drive to do Windows housekeeping or to load program segments for various functions
Now, at the same time and with the same hand... while still using the baton to conduct the orchestra... pick up a bow and play a fiddle... this would be doing something with your video file at the same time as all the other work
You as a person cannot do both at the same time with the same hand
A computer is a LITTLE better, in that it can switch from one kind of task to another very quickly... but not quickly enough for easy video editing
One hard drive is not as good as two which is not as good as three

I tried running it several times and I trued it as the system administrator...all to no avail...

  • ITunes 7.6 will not install on Windows Vista 32-bit (iPod Service problem)

Basically, my story is near-identical to the one here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1572880&tstart=0
EXCEPT that after trying EVERYTHING rmurtagh did, I STILL had no success. Specifically, when I try to install iTunes, I get the error "Service 'iPod Service' (iPod Service) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services." and when I try to change anything using services.msc, I get the error, "The system cannot find the file specified." PLEASE HELP!!

when I try to change anything using services.msc, I get the error, "The system cannot find the file specified." PLEASE HELP!!
Are you getting that if you try to manually restart the iPod Service in Services.msc?
If so, do you get an error message number with the message? If so, what number is it?
